But I Don’t Even Have A Dog

Drat, where is the other sock in this pair? It was here just the other day! I looked everywhere, and it’s just plain gone. But I’ll hang on to hope, and put it in the box with all the other mono-sock “sole survivors”, my local Land of the Lost.

A family in Oregon had an even worse missing sock problem. And a very large, very dumb, very sick dog. Hey, ya think there’s a connection?

Imagine eating, say, five large pizzas in one sitting and you get some idea of what the Great Dane must of have been experiencing when his owners hauled him into Northwest Portland’s DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital.

The symptoms? Repeatedly vomiting and retching. Oh, and not eating.

Dr. Ashley Magee took the dog to a back room for X-rays. She found what was described as “a lot of foreign material in his stomach,” said Shawna Harch, the hospital’s communications specialist.

Whatever was in the dog’s stomach couldn’t be digested, and that meant surgery. ...

During the nearly two-hour surgery, she must have thought she was working in a department store as she pulled out sock after sock after sock.

In the end, Dr. Magee removed 43 1/2 socks.

That 1/2 sock remains a mystery.

The Kibble Diet

This one goes around and around every couple of years with only minor variations. Each generation hears it and claims it as their own. I’m pretty sure the joke goes back at least as far as Buddy Hackett when he was working the Borscht Belt in his youth. It’s a true classic.

woo-hoo … these young ladies are in a jam. and all for being funny, except to the pc left

It was a private affair, but somehow the university which I must assume is all gooey and pc and high on diversity and multi crap, now want to punish a couple of girls with a bodacious sense of humor for “blacking up.”
Maybe they shouldn’t have uploaded a photo. But then .. heck. Why not?  Some ppl are just too sensitive.  Or only make the proper noises to be seen as such.

Two university students are facing disciplinary action after taking photos of themselves dressed up as black South African maids.

The girls, who are studying at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, smeared their faces with brown paint and shoved pillows down their skirts in a bid to make their bottoms look bigger.

They then struck a number of poses for the camera, before the images were uploaded to the social-networking site Facebook.

Now, the university in Pretoria, Gauteng Province, is carrying out disciplinary action against the students, who dressed up in the outfits for a friend’s party.

The photos, which have since been deleted from Facebook, show the girls posing in a bedroom while donning clothing typically associated with domestic workers.

They appear to be deliberately sticking their bottoms out, while their smiles seemingly suggest they believe their outfits are amusing.

Amusing?  Just amusing?  It is highly accurate and funny you meathead you.

That’s All Clucked Up

Roosters’ fertility problem affects US chicken supply, increases prices
The world’s largest chicken breeder has discovered that a key breed of rooster has a genetic issue that is reducing its fertility, adding to problems constraining U.S. poultry production and raising prices at a time when beef and pork prices are already at record highs.

The breed, Aviagen Group’s standard Ross male, is sire through its offspring to as much as 25 percent of the nation’s chickens raised for slaughter, said Aviagen spokeswoman Marla Robinson.

Sanderson Farms, the third-largest U.S. poultry producer and one of Aviagen’s largest customers, said it and Aviagen systematically ruled out other possible causes for a decline in fertility before determining a genetic issue was at the root of the problem.

The issue is hitting an industry that is already suffering from a short supply of breeder birds.

The U.S. Agriculture Department last month reduced its U.S. chicken production forecast for 2014, predicting only a 1 percent increase in poundage from 2013, well below the long-run annual average of 4 percent. The agency predicted 2015 production would be up only 2.6 percent.

Aviagen, owned privately by EW Group of Germany, provides breeding stock - hens and roosters - to Sanderson and other chicken producers, which then breed the birds and hatch their eggs to produce meat.

Aviagen sent a team of scientists to Sanderson last autumn to study the issue and has acknowledged that an undisclosed change it made to the breed’s genetics made the birds “very sensitive” to being overfed, he said.

“We fed him too much. He got fat. When he got big, he did not breed as much as he was intended to,” Cockrell said about the breed of rooster. “The fertilization went way down, and our hatch has been way down.”

Aviagen regularly tweaks genetics in birds to improve them, Cockrell added.

The chicken breeding company has replaced the breed suffering from fertility issues with a new breed, and is mating it with the same type of hens. It is too early to provide accurate projections for their productivity, but “results to date are favorable,” Robinson said.
