WHAT CONSTITUTES FREE SPEECH THESE DAYS? speech that doesn’t offend anyone?

There’s nothing quite so comic and also disingenuous as a liberal ..... (I have censored myself on the rest of my opening comment)

Either this poorly dressed billionaire who can afford better really believes his own PC,BS, or else he’s making a political statement for reasons of bidness.  He really seems to have his knickers in a twist over this non event. But he’s the boss and the boss can decide what the limits of free speech and thought should be.  Or perhaps no free speech at all?

Some of you folks have already said pretty much all that can be said, and I know Drew has too, with regard to crime and detention.

Zuckerberg’s Anger At ‘Malicious’ Employees

Staff members who crossed out Black Lives Matter slogans acted in a malicious way which is “deeply hurtful”, Facebook’s boss said.

h/t sky news

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg has apparently reprimanded employees after “Black Lives Matter” slogans on the company’s campus were crossed out and replaced with “all lives matter”.

In an internal post to employees obtained by tech site Gizmodo, he reportedly said the actions have been a “deeply hurtful and tiresome experience for the black community”.

Employees are allowed to write on the walls at the company’s Menlo Park campus, and Mr Zuckerberg said: “We’ve never had rules around what people can write on our walls.
“We expect everybody to treat each other with respect.”
But he said there had been several instances of the slogan - coined after the 2013 acquittal of George Zimmerman, who shot and killed black teenager Trayvon Martin - being defaced.

He wrote: “There have been several recent instances of people crossing out ‘Black Lives Matter’ and writing ‘all lives matter’ on the walls.
“Despite my clear communication at Q&A last week that this was unacceptable, and messages from several other leaders from across the company, this has happened again.
“I was already very disappointed by this disrespectful behaviour before, but after my communication I now consider this malicious as well.”

He said a town hall-style meeting would be held next week to explain what the Black Lives Matter movement was about.
After being used as a hashtag after the Trayvon case, it became an internet-wide protest slogan.
Now it is a civil rights movement that wants to put an end to police brutality and mass incarceration.

off the rails but don’t expect much more from the left

image

While the conservative party here is engaged in a civil war over the in or out vote on the EU, and it is one hell of a fight with the mayor of London finally coming off the fence and declaring he will vote out ....  The top dog in Scotland on the left who is in favor of remaining in, has issued a comment that defies logic but, we don’t expect much from the left where logic is at issue.
Anyway .... here’s her moonbat take.

LOONY TUNE NEWS

Brit exit from EU would make it harder for UK to help world’s most vulnerable people, warns Nicola Sturgeon.

Scotland’s First Minister says EU allows countries to work together on issues like the refugee crisis and climate change .

Is there anything I need to add here?

Like the UK needs to belong to the EU in order to empty its treasury in support of “vulnerable” people. Read of course, immigration legal and otherwise.

Noticed In Passing

I wasn’t watching the Oscars. I’m not boycotting them; I think the “lack of diversity” noise is a total bunch of crap, and on several levels.  I don’t watch the Oscars because it never ends. I swear the show runs for a week. A lifetime. Two lifetimes. It makes the SuperBowl look like a speed dating session.

But I did notice that a young Swedish actress named Alicia Vikander won for Best Supporting Actress for some film I’d never heard of.

Interesting looking young woman. Is she plain or is she perfect? Hot or squat? So I pulled up pictures of her, and found she starred in a remake of Man From U.N.C.L.E. last year. I didn’t even know that was a movie. Hey, fine, I lived under a roc. And a rock! But in my own defense, the TV news shows don’t do movie reviews any more, we don’t get the newspapers so we don’t see the film ads, and we don’t even have a single movie theater in the entire county any more. Plus most of them suck wind anyway. So film and I parted company years ago, mostly. Mostly.

Love the dress. Why wait for a wardrobe malfunction when you can design one right into the neckline? I love the elegant demure, yet sexy pre-ravaged look. Confusing but attention grabbing.
I’ve also always had a warm spot for early 60s fashions, the almost-mod look. Dig her contrasting giant bangles, the Wayfairers, and that fitted 1963 A-Line dress straight off of Jackie. The big hat and the curled up little pony-do give it all class; the bakelite earrings make it fun. Fashion, baby.

And as usual, clicky gets you humongous embiggification.

stumbling our way upward

image

So we managed a win last night at Cheap League, going 5-2 for the second week in a row. Last week’s win was a position round victory over the last place team, which was nice. But this week’s win was against our nemesis team, Ken and his Mom. This is the same group that mauled us every fourth week all summer long last year. So some payback was long, long overdue.

Lane conditions last night were flooded. I was going to say something about Noah, but it wasn’t quite that bad. Although, given all the oil and the lack of traction, it was hard to get the balls to make any kind of ark, nyuk nyuk nyuk. And since we won 5, it means that when they said “gopher wood”, we did. Right. No, it was a slippery mess. And it was one of those nights when you lose by sucking just a bit less than the other team. We were all under average all night. And that’s about it. First game us by 24, second game theirs by 76, third game ours by 65, and that gives us the 5-2. With a little bit of luck we should be rising back into the middle of the standings. Not high enough for us to sing the George Jefferson song, but enough so we at least start think of it.

It started with an afternoon drinking session.

And ended with her knickers down around her ankles, in broad daylight, in public, when the fuzz arrived.

Draggin me tired old and poor bones outta bed for this I am, begorrah.

It reads funny in the hard copy and I suppose it may cause a grin here too.
But.  This is serious stuff when one gives a little bit of extra thought to it.

She wants to hide who she is from the public, she is after all, a QC. That’s a kind of a lawyer.  I have not researched what “kind of” works out to.
Here’s what’s so bothersome.

In order to hide her ID, our not so fair lady now accuses the guy of sexual assault.
That’s because over here and probably USA too for all I know, it’s the same there.
Once a lady comes forward with an accusation, she becomes anonymous.

Lately, there have been a number of high profile cases here in the UK, where some poor schnook who it later is found to be not guilty, has his life on hold for a year or more while his case works its way thru the media and the courts.  His home is searched and his face is plastered all over the media, generally with a police invitation to other “victims” of his abuse to please come forward.
Anonymously.  And just like that … several hundred woman and girls suddenly discover that they too have been abused and Elvis was a witness.

DJ Tony Blackburn breaks down over sex abuse claims

I am not making light of genuine abuse. You need to understand that. And of course, I can only write as a male observer via the nation’s media reportage.

The authorities say that victims of sexual assault in large numbers, hold back and do not accuse their attacker.  Fear is one reason they remain silent.  Another reason given is that women and especially young girls, fear that nobody will believe them, and so remain silent too. In order to overcome this sorry plight, police withhold the names of the people making the accusations. I can even understand that, and my immediate reaction is to side with the alleged victim.

So, as it already has happened, there are men and most especially high profile ones,
who go through a kind of living hell for a long time before the dust settles.
And all it take is one person to claim they’ve been touched, abused or raped outright,
to set the process in motion.

And remain anonymous.

Rush hour romp: Married City lawyer accused of having sex with top QC at Waterloo station

By Thomas Connelly

A married City lawyer has appeared in court accused of having sex with a prominent QC at Waterloo train station.

Graeme Stening, general counsel at London private equity outfit Doughty Hanson & Co, and the unnamed female barrister, were arrested by police outside the busy commuter hub, it emerged yesterday.

According to a report in The Times, the top lawyer and “middle-aged barrister” embarked on an afternoon drinking session and were arrested after members of the public made complaints about their “activities”.

The unnamed QC, who is described by the newspaper as a “leader in her field”, admitted outraging public decency last summer. She also accepted a police caution that will appear on her criminal record.

But fast-forward six weeks and the prominent barrister claimed she had actually been the victim of a sexual assault that evening. As a result, she is now entitled to lifetime anonymity. It is also understood that she has applied to have her caution quashed.

51 year-old Stening — who spent time with City outfit Simmons & Simmons and Pinsent Masons legacy firm Simpson Curtis, according to his current online work bio — appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of outraging public decency.

The top lawyer was due to stand trial earlier this month, however a further file is now being considered by the Crown Prosecution Service, delaying proceedings until June.

a note from my email inbox

I got something in my inbox here at bmews from one of the gang, in reply to what I wrote yesterday on voting etc.

I think this ought to be here on the front page.

Oh btw.
I heard on the radio tonight, that the gov. of NJ has endorsed Donald Trump, saying he believes Trump is the only one running who has a chance to beat that woman creature who is running.  OK he didn’t say it that way.

Meanwhile, it isn’t just the BBC on Trump’s case over here. And not that it matters except.
I really do wish these libtard ass wipes could have the decency to quote him correctly and in detail, before writing editorials about how nasty and racist he is.  And he can be nasty we know that. But hell, he’s our nasty.
Oh yeah one more thing.

Has Mr. Trump said anything yet about how exactly he is going to get Mexico to pay for his fancy fence?
Hmmm.  I suppose the Mexicans could always borrow the cash from us.

A NOTE FROM THE INBOX

I’m not sure who will win the US election. With the ever increasing number of nigs and mexicans the Democraps have it a lot easier than the Republicans. I loathe and detest Killary I think having that harridan as President would be a disaster. The other guy Sanders seems like America’s Corbyn. As for the Republicans well Trump in many respects is an asshole. However he has more going for him than the rest. Jeb Bush?? I mean seriously? The two greasers Rubio and Cruz seem to be there to capture the ethnic vote. To be honest the only decent one is the black guy Carson but no one will give him a look in. The BBC ( British Broadcasting Corp.) types are foaming at the mouth and now running with the idea that only morons and inbreds vote for Trump. Well I hope he wins and I hope he goes up against Killary. Can he win? I don’t know but I would like to see him try. My predictions on US Presidents have never worked very well. I was asked prior to 2008 could Bungler win and I said no, they wouldn’t vote for a black community organiser and look how that worked out.

I feel exactly like you about charities. I remember as a kid my mother saying we had to eat all our food as there where starving kids in Africa. As a kid I was always a bit conservative at heart. I remember in the 80’s when that schmuck Geldof was berating us for food for the starving Africans. I gave them bugger all. My older brother is a bit of a pinko and was horrified that I thought they should be left to starve. However 30 years on and what do we have? Boat loads of these locusts trying to get here for the handouts. If they had kept their population stable instead of breeding like rats they wouldn’t be starving. Socialists just don’t understand that logic. Now it means we will end up in WW3 because sooner or later this is going to end in warfare. I am like you, pretty gloomy about the future. I don’t see a bright future for whitey. The turd worlders will outbreed us and it will mean the West becomes like the shitholes these deadbeats came from. Hopefully I wont be around to see it!

I too kinda favored Carson at the beginning of all this.  He seemed exceptionally savvy at the time and very articulate and unflappable.

Later on however, and my memory is so bad I can’t remember the issue, but he said something from left field and shot himself in the foot.
It was bizarre (?) but I just can not recall it.

Are there any readers out there who recall what I’m referring to?

So What? She Was Right

#BlacksBeingUppity   #BlackLivesMatter confronts Hillary at a private fundraiser. Wants an apology over her labeling a group of black thugs - lifeless, stone cold criminal killers with rap sheet miles long by their teen years, who commit violent crimes and felonies at a truly frightening rate - labeling them as “super-predators” TWENTY YEARS AGO.

God almighty, I can’t wait for niggatime to be over. I have simply had it the fuck up to HERE and then some.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Black voters are the linchpin of Hillary Clinton’s strategy for winning the South Carolina Democratic presidential primary, and as a result, her campaign has put racial justice issues at the forefront of her agenda. But at an event on Wednesday night, Clinton was vocally confronted by an activist questioning her past support for policies that had a disproportionately negative effect on African Americans.

Uh huh, I saw dat. Ritin bout blax, usin the word “linchpin”. Linchin? Tawk bout usin code words. What next, “hang our problems out to air”? Raycis!!

Ashley Williams, a 23-year-old activist from Charlotte, interrupted Clinton during a private fundraiser in Charleston on Wednesday night. Williams stood and demanded an apology from Clinton for the high incarceration rate for black Americans, and confronted her with the words of a speech Clinton delivered 20 years ago voicing support for the now-debunked theory of “super-predators.”

Course, maybe if blacks weren’t committing 80% of the crime and “keepin it real” by living as lawlessly as they can on purpose, then just maybe they wouldn’t be arrested so much. It’s all very basic: don’t walk around with pockets full of drugs; if you have a car, keep it in decent condition with the proper papers, pay your bills, and don’t live a life of roadhouse criminality. Try and gain a little bit of emotional maturity; arson, rioting, rape and barbaric murder aren’t justified because someone disagreed with you today. Basic stuff. Seems to me that everyone I know lives this way, and I’m pretty sure that no one I have ever known has gone to jail, and darn few of them ever even arrested.

Williams, who is from Charlotte, North Carolina, said she was motivated to protest because policies during President Bill Clinton’s administration led to an increase in mass incarceration that mostly struck black communities. She pointed to the three-strike federal laws, the elimination of rehabilitative programs and an emphasis on prison construction that were part of the Clinton legacy on crime.

Clinton has distanced herself from these policies and recently issued a detailed agenda on racial justice. But Williams wants more.

Hillary Clinton has a pattern of throwing the Black community under the bus when it serves her politically,” Williams said in a statement before the event. “She called our boys ‘super-predators’ in ’96, then she race-baited when running against Obama in ‘08, now she’s a lifelong civil rights activist. I just want to know which Hillary is running for President, the one from ’96, ’08, or the new Hillary?

The Clinton campaign didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

The answer to that last question is “whichever one you vote for”.

A BMEWS First

A Sort-Of Award Because Today We Made BMEWS History

Another little knot on our blog’s long running timeline

image

A bit big for the digital mantelpiece, but what can you do?

Today is the first time ever in the entire life of this blog that we have had posts to put up from four different bloggers. Sure, we’ve had four or more posts on one day many times. But never from four of us. Primarily because there haven’t been four of us active. Hardly ever. Actually we have several more folks who can throw up a post whenever they want, but we haven’t heard from most of them in years and years now.

So today is our first four poster day. Thus the four poster bed award. Nyuk nyuk, nyuk perhaps, but it’s better than a stale liverwurst sandwich on white bread.

Go team!

so whatcha think?  trump as next in the big white house?  could it actually happen?

LyndonB sent me a gag last night.

Q: What is the difference between the White House and a zoo ?

A: A zoo has an African lion....and the White House has lynin’ African….

It’s a chuckle but it got me thinking about things and so I wrote him back. After I clicked send and re-read my thoughts, it occurred to me I ought to bounce this off you folks and see what you think.
I’m assuming many here are younger by at least a decade and maybe more.  I have added much here to my original reply to Lyndon cos I was still thinking as I wrote.

I heard an interesting interview and comment on BBC4 last night. Or maybe the night before. One running into another lately.
Maybe you heard it too. (that was addressed to LyndonB)

An American aide or spokesperson ??? something like that. Anyway he was speaking of the Trump draw on the public imagination but said mostly ppl who don’t read much etc. Words to that effect.  But he said that the American ppl in the end wouldn’t elect Trump, and while he wasn’t a fan of Hillary, she’s more likely to win it all in the end.
Well, I suppose if that is true she still might be better then her opposite, died in the wool socialist, Sanders.  Frankly, both of em scare the be-jabbers outta me.  Come to that, I haven’t much faith in anyone anymore.

When ya come right down to it, does it really matter any longer?  That’s a serious question.

I’m a bit jaded these days.  In my late 70s, I’ve been asked for donations to save Afrika and before that the starving kids in China at the end of WW2. I think the begging started around the 6th year of my being. Maybe 7.  I’ve heard speeches and when young might have been carried away by some. Not much anymore tho. I’m old and I’m tired and they’ve all been full of it all these years.

I might vote and then squeeze eyes tight and hope I made the right choice.

And I say that like we really have one. Trump aside.  Ya know, it might be fun just to see what kind of trouble Trump could get us in if elected.
I am very tired of the speeches made and comments made in interviews, whereby the speaker whoever that is, bangs on about improving our image in Europe.  Or expresses concern about our world image.  I actually want someone to say hey, Europe. Fuck You!  You don’t like our policies and you don’t approve of Gitmo?  Well hell’s bells. Come out with it and declare war on us and lets settle things once and for all.  Howzthat?

Yeah that’s the other damn thing that has me fired up and feeling like I had my finger on the trigger.  Gitmo.  Why the F*** is that place any business of anyone else outside the USA?  Why are some Americans telling us we can improve our image by shutting it down?
We should keep it open for business just to piss off the lovey left and Euro-weenies.

It’s late, I’m tired and outta here for now. Stay tuned.

MIGRANTS ON THE MOVE AND A MILLION MORE PREDICTED TO ARRIVE

Bout time too but ... can not help but think it’s a day late and a dollar short this time. I guess we’ll see what happens.
Just so ya know.
The “humanitarian” help mentioned in the article is made up of all sorts including far left anarchists as well as the acting community in the form of Jude Law. All gushing with the warmth of human kindness.

Meanwhile, some countries are now, at very long last, shutting borders and putting up razor wire fences.
I’ve seen photos of migrants trying to get over those and some have made it.
Me thinks they need to add a bit of zip to those fences, if authorities are serious about staunching the flow of human looking vomit into their countries. Fatal electric shock should do nicely.

Bulldozers prepare to demolish Calais ‘Jungle’ camp after judge upholds decision to clear the shanty town of migrants trying to illegally reach Britain

· Demolition crews are preparing to move in to the Jungle camp in Calais

· A court today upheld an order to evict hundreds from the sprawling centre

· French authorities were originally preparing to demolish it on Tuesday

· But this was delayed by a last minute appeal from refugee campaigners

By Corey Charlton for MailOnline

Don’t know who writes the headlines for the Daily Fail.
Wonder if they have any job openings?

Closer to the fact …. it isn’t actually the entire camp but a part of it.
Which hey, is a hell of a good start. These folks are nothing but trouble and costly trouble at that.  If Europe and in this case the UK, were getting the sort of can do, lawful immigrants of another generation, who found their way here with no dreams or promises of handouts and “rights”, there might be more of a welcome mat out.
That said, not with the overwhelming numbers flooding Europe today.
And oh BTW … the expectation is for another MILLION this year.
Crivens!

Demolition crews are preparing to enter the ‘Jungle’ refugee camp in Calais after a judge today upheld a decision to evict hundreds from the sprawling centre on the French coast.

A Lille court official said French authorities were given the all-clear today to evict migrants from their tents in the densely populated southern portion of the camp - but cannot entirely raze it.

This comes two days later than expected due to last minute appeals on Tuesday from refugee campaigners and a judges’ visit to the campsite to witness conditions for themselves.

The authorities have said they will use force if necessary to move its inhabitants to alternative accommodation in a nearby container park and other reception centres.

Closing the camp would be the most dramatic step by the French state to end Calais’ years-long migrant problem, which has transformed the port city into a high-security tension point.

The eviction deadline Tuesday for the camp’s southern sector came and went, with migrants and humanitarian groups trying to stave off bulldozers via a legal complaint, a letter to the interior minister and public pleas.

This week Belgium also reintroduced border controls with France to halt the arrival of migrants from the camp in a new blow to the EU’s passport-free travel zone.

Referring to the 26-country borderless area, Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon said: ‘We have informed the European Commission that we will temporarily depart from Schengen rules.’

Emotions were running high this week as the deadline loomed for the destruction of half the ‘Jungle’ migrant camp in Calais, with migrants refusing or unable to move.

John, a 28-year-old Sudanese migrant, said: ‘I don’t have anywhere else to go.
‘We don’t want to leave Calais because we don’t want to get further away from England, which is still our goal.’

( Sure thing kiddo. England doesn’t have near enuff niggers on hand. Got any kin back there in that shithole you left behind?  Git on your cell phone boy, and invite them too. )

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the eviction would be done ‘progressively, by persuasion and with respect for people’s dignity’.

The evicted migrants have been offered heated accommodation in refitted containers set up next door to the Jungle.

But many are reluctant to move there because they lack any communal spaces and movement is restricted.

They have also been offered places in around 100 accommodation centres spread around France.

At the weekend, actor Jude Law and singer Tom Odell were among famous faces who took to the stage at the camp in Calais to raise the plight of refugees.

They were joined by actress Juliet Stevenson and comedian Shappi Khorsandi at the Letters Live event.

It came after 145 celebrities including Idris Elba, Helena Bonham Carter and Benedict Cumberbatch wrote an open letter calling on Prime Minister David Cameron to help save children based there.

Meanwhile, Eurotunnel has asked the British and French governments to reimburse it £22million (€29m) for lost revenue during the cross-Channel migrant crisis.
The Channel operator faced heavy disruption to its services last summer as migrants based at the Jungle made repeated bids to reach Britain.

Well meaning ( maybe one or two among the hundred) liberal lefty lovies came to this mud hole (see all the photos at the link) to not only offer help to migrants in the form of food and cloths.
Mostly cadres of left wing “activists” arrived and moved in among the vermin and started to train them in tactics to disrupt and ways of sneaking into the UK.  The tunnel was even blocked for awhile.
One damn thing these migrants cottoned onto real fast, was the how to aspect, of protest and confrontation.  Not to mention how well the race card could be used.
As long as the left is allowed a free hand and predominate, this situation will be repeated again and again.  It will never get better while those sort of enablers are allowed to continue breathing.

Refugee organisations pinned their hopes on the court hearing on Tuesday - which was slapped down today - after challenging the eviction order.
A French judge and other officials visited the camp earlier in the week to see conditions for themselves before making a ruling on whether the eviction should go ahead.
The issue has played into the fraught discussions about Britain’s possible exit from the EU, with France under pressure to stop refugees trying to board lorries and ferries to cross the Channel.
Some British opponents of ‘Brexit’ say they would lose the ability to call on France to stop the flow of refugees if Britain leaves the EU.
Up to 1,000 people who have fled war, poverty and persecution are reported to be affected by the plans, but aid workers say the figure could be much higher.
The Help Refugees charity said it carried out its own analysis showing there were 3,455 people living in the affected part of the Jungle who faced being ‘evicted from their homes in the midst of winter, without sufficient alternative accommodation on offer’.
A spokeswoman said: ‘Our concerns remain with welfare of the unaccompanied minors.

( Fine. Then take the little shits into your homes and support them yourselves. )

Dark Mass Found, Pope Exonerated

Does This FRB Make My Universe Look Fat?

Also: Anisotropic probing done to ionize Bary on intergalactic medium caused “redshift”

Radio telescope catches signal older than the Earth, realizes frequency anomalies are road map to missing “dark matter” that contains most of the mass of the universe.

For nearly a decade, astronomers have been puzzling over a certain type of signal. They’re called fast radio bursts, brief radio pulses that last only a few milliseconds, but give out as much energy as the sun will emit in 10,000 years.

To date, 18 of these vexing signals have been identified. Because they are so transient, all scientists had previously known about them was that they exist, and they’re really powerful.

Now researchers from Australia’s CSIRO and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan’s Subaru telescope in Hawaii have for the first time calculated the originating location of a radio burst. The most recent of these signals, FRB 150418, was captured on the 18th of April in 2015.
...
Staggeringly, FRB 150418 came from an elliptical galaxy 6 billion light-years away.

What caused the FRB (or any FRB) is still unknown, but pinpointing the location of this burst indicates that they often occur from massive distances away. And it’s had another unexpected benefit: locating the universe’s missing matter.

The gravity in the universe is far greater than can be accounted for by what we observe. Astronomers believe that most of this is accounted for by dark energy, which makes up 70 percent of the universe, and dark matter, which makes up 25 percent of the universe. The remaining five percent is ordinary matter, and it’s what everything we see is made of.

But all the observed ordinary matter, from all the stars and galaxies and planets and nebulas, only adds up to about half of what should be there if this model of the universe is correct.

Using FRB 150418, the team was able to “locate” this missing matter. As radio waves travel through space, they run into gas and other material, which has an effect on the signal. By looking at delays in various radio frequencies, the team was able to calculate exactly how much material it had passed through on its 6 billion light-year journey.

The delay in the frequencies of the burst, visible as a spike, caused by matter between Earth and its origin.

“The good news is our observations and the model match—we have found the missing matter,” said lead author Evan Keane of the SKA Organisation. “It’s the first time a fast radio burst has been used to conduct a cosmological measurement.”

These signals are dispersed according to a precise physical law and this dispersion is a key observable quantity, which, in tandem with a redshift measurement, can be used for fundamental physical investigations10, 11. Every fast radio burst has a dispersion measurement, but none before now have had a redshift measurement, because of the difficulty in pinpointing their celestial coordinates. Here we report the discovery of a fast radio burst and the identification of a fading radio transient lasting ~6 days after the event, which we use to identify the host galaxy; we measure the galaxy’s redshift to be z = 0.492 ± 0.008. The dispersion measure and redshift, in combination, provide a direct measurement of the cosmic density of ionized baryons in the intergalactic medium of ΩIGM = 4.9 ± 1.3 per cent, in agreement with the expectation from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe

Since “paradigm” is pronounce para-dine, then “ΩIGM” must be “Omega Dyne”, right? Wasn’t that the cover corporation in Buckaroo Banzai for John Big Boo Tay? Or would Omega Dine be the actual name of the Restaurant at the End of the Universe? And if all of this theorizing and matter finding fits on the same intergalactic medium, just think what we’ll be able to pack onto next year’s intergalactic large!

I didn’t know

I had to read the post below to learn that today is Turtler’s birthday.

Happy Birthday Turtler !!!

I didn’t have time to bake you a cake, not even a digital one.  So here’s a chocolate turtle(r) with a candle. Make a wish!

Poor little fella looks a tad impaled. Oh well. At least this one didn’t melt when I lit the candle!

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
