Not Even Half There

Forty Two Percent

Obama’s attendance rate at the daily intelligence briefings, since becoming pResident

6 out of 10 times, he isn’t even there. And it’s been like that since the beginning. Brudda juss be fonin it in.

A new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report reveals that President Barack Obama has attended only 42.1% of his daily intelligence briefings (known officially as the Presidential Daily Brief, or PDB) in the 2,079 days of his presidency through September 29, 2014.

The GAI report also included a breakdown of Obama’s PDB attendance record between terms; he attended 42.4% of his PDBs in his first term and 41.3% in his second.

The GAI’s alarming findings come on the heels of Obama’s 60 Minutes comments on Sunday, wherein the president laid the blame for the Islamic State’s (ISIS) rapid rise squarely at the feet of his Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

“I think our head of the intelligence community, Jim Clapper, has acknowledged that I think they underestimated what had been taking place in Syria,” said Obama.

According to Daily Beast reporter Eli Lake, members of the Defense establishment were “flabbergasted” by Obama’s attempt to shift blame.

Either the president doesn’t read the intelligence he’s getting or he’s bullshitting,” a former senior Pentagon official “who worked closely on the threat posed by Sunni jihadists in Syria and Iraq” told the Daily Beast.

Actually, this news report doesn’t tell the whole story; the official government report shows that in 2012 Obama only made a third of his briefings, 34.2%. And so far in 2014 he’s batting 37.5%. Pretty damning if you ask me. He doesn’t seem to be trying that hard at all. It’s as if running the world was something left to Valerie Jarret to do, while he plays golf and does fundraisers ( a recent statistic shows that Obama has done a fundraiser on average every 5 days since moving into the White House ).

On Monday, others in the intelligence community similarly blasted Obama and said he’s shown longstanding disinterest in receiving live, in-person PDBs that allow the Commander-in-Chief the chance for critical followup, feedback, questions, and the challenging of flawed intelligence assumptions.

“It’s pretty well-known that the president hasn’t taken in-person intelligence briefings with any regularity since the early days of 2009,” an Obama national security staffer told the Daily Mail on Monday. “He gets them in writing.”

The Obama security staffer said the president’s PDBs have contained detailed threat warnings about the Islamic State dating back to before the 2012 presidential election.

Right, in writing. No chance for questions, clarification, anything. Just check off the boxes and get a C+ for attendance.

Looks like our Joy From Illinois is still just voting Present.

well of course

It was only a matter of time. FFffh, the links says it all, doesn’t it?

That’s right. That AIDS stuff we ginned up wasn’t working any longer, nor the crack cocaine that CIA came up with, so now it’s the ebola.

At least this time it’s the Canadians doing the dirty deeds. For once.

White people sure is mean and nasty.

Pamela Geller, A New Battle

Pamela Geller publishes Atlas Shrugs, a favorite blog of mine.

She’s also produced a series of ads showing the reality of the Islamists.  Of course this makes the crypto Jihadis go nuts.

Here’s my current favorite, featuring the late James Foley.

Unfortunately, according to the Daily Mail, Foley’s family have taken action to have the ad taken down.

Geller’s attorney, David Yerushalmi, said the Foley family were notified that the ads depicting Foley moments before he is beheaded by a masked ISIS militant dubbed Jihadi John.were being pulled.

The attorney told the New York Post that other anti-Islamic ads, slated to appear in New York and San Francisco, will go forward this week.

The original ad featured an image showing the alleged killer, described in the media as an aspiring rapper, in a recording studio accompanied by the caption: ‘Executioner who beheaded reporter before he became Jihadist.’

On the right-hand side of the poster there was a still from the infamous beheading video captioned: ‘Executioner who beheaded reporter after becoming devout.’

Above the photos a headline blared: ‘Yesterday’s moderate is today’s headline.’

A tagline printed in red at the bottom of the page read: ‘It’s not Islamophobia, it’s Islamorealism.’

On her website, Pamela Geller shared an altered version of the ad with all references to the Foley beheading removed, along with his photo.

The AFDI instead used another image of the alleged executioner holding someone else’s pixilated severed head. A lengthy blog post about the anti-Islamic advert included the letter sent to Geller by attorney Patrick Rowan from the firm McGuire Woods LLP representing Diane and John Foley.

In his letter, the lawyer asked on behalf of James Foley’s family to withdraw the ad and stop using it.

‘Having lived in and reported from communities in which nearly everyone as of Muslim faith, he had great respect for the religion and those who practiced it. ‘The advertisement you are preparing to run seems to convey the message that ordinary practitioners of Islam are a dangerous threat.

‘This message is entirely inconsistent with Mr Foley’s reporting and his beliefs.’

Mr Rowan concluded his missive by warning the organization that using James Foley’s image to draw funding and attention to the AFDI will cause his family ‘profound distress.’

The New York Post has a slightly different take on it, but the bias is even more apparent.

Then again, just by reporting and demonstrating the ads, they’re getting good coverage.  Geller’s getting a huge amount of coverage around the world.

Forensic Link???

A Missing Link Found?

image

The arrest of Jesse Matthew—the suspect in the disappearance of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham—has resulted in a “significant break” in the 2009 death of another young woman in the same area, police said.

Virginia State Police did not elaborate on the development into the investigation of the death of Morgan Harrington, only saying there is a “new forensic link.”

Harrington, a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student, went missing after attending a Metallica concert in Charlottesville in October 2009. Her remains were found on a farm months later.

Authorities took Matthew to Charlottesville, Virginia, on Friday after he agreed not to fight extradition from Texas, where he had been taken into custody after police obtained a warrant for his arrest on Tuesday.

Investigators think he was the last person with Graham. He is charged with abduction with the intent to defile in the case, according to Charlottesville police.

Also, the DNA from a 2005 sexual assault case has matched DNA on Morgan Harrington. Follow the link for the video.

Not sure what this all means ... could be Matthew is a serial abductor/rapist/murderer, or perhaps this just another case of “lazy southern KKKops” pinning everything they can on a convenient black guy.

In addition to Graham’s disappearance, Matthew also has been questioned in connection with an alleged sexual assault nearly 12 years ago.

According to a statement from Lynchburg police, a woman reported she was raped on the campus of Liberty University on October 17, 2002. Matthew was a student there for three years and played on the football team.

However, no charges were filed because the woman didn’t want to go forward with the case, and investigators determined there wasn’t enough evidence to arrest Matthew, said Michael Doucette, the commonwealth’s attorney for Lynchburg.

Matthew told authorities that the woman consented, Doucette said, adding that there were no witnesses.

And then again, maybe not.

Obama Admits A Mistake

Yeah, that’s headline news all by itself. Mr. Perfect says “we were wrong”. Granted, he’s sharing the blame. But it’s a first step. And he doesn’t even blame Bush.

Obama: US Underestimated ISIS

Guess they weren’t so “JV” after all.

President Obama acknowledged Sunday that U.S. intelligence officials “underestimated" the threat posed by the Islamic State and overestimated the Iraqi army’s capacity to defeat the militant group.

The president said in an wide-ranging interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes” that the Islamic State militants went “underground” after being squashed in Iraq and regrouped under the cover of the Syrian civil war.

“During the chaos of the Syrian civil war, where essentially you have huge swaths of the country that are completely ungoverned, they were able to reconstitute themselves and take advantage of that chaos,” Obama said.

The president said his director of national intelligence, James Clapper, has acknowledged that the U.S. “underestimated what had been taking place in Syria.” He also said it was “absolutely true” that the U.S. overestimated the ability and will of the Iraqi army.

Oh, so it was the entire country that was wrong. That means Obama is only 1/310,000,000 at fault. Phew, for a minute there I thought he was going to say 4 Hail Marys and perform an act of contrition. Who am I kidding?

However, Obama also acknowledged that the U.S. is dealing with a conundrum in Syria, as the U.S.-led military campaign against the Islamic State is helping Syrian President Bashar Assad, whom the U.N. has accused of war crimes.

I recognize the contradiction in a contradictory land and a contradictory circumstance,” Obama said. “We are not going to stabilize Syria under the rule of Assad,” whose government has committed “terrible atrocities.”

However, Obama called the threat from the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, and other terror groups a more “immediate concern that has to be dealt with.”

“On the other hand, in terms of immediate threats to the United States, ISIL, Khorasan Group—those folks could kill Americans,” he said.

Oh right, it’s a puzzle, surrounded by a mystery, and wrapped in an  enema  enigma. Or maybe a tortilla. Gosh, nobody can figure this out. Nobody!  And naturally, we have to hear “Khorasan” again, his own new favorite sub-terrorist splinter splinter cell. OMG, this guy sings about his Khorasan more than a Mexican crooner ("mi corazón").

And I shouldn’t mention it, but I’m pretty certain that the entire US military said that the Iraqi army wasn’t worth jack if left to themselves and allowed to go all tribal again. Which they did, the day after Obongogongo pulled all our troops out, while praising himself mightily. And when the untrained bunch, who coincidentally were the wrong flavor of jizzlam, ran like hell at the sound of gunfire ... well, that was Maliki’s fault, right?

So what’s his strategy to deal with this latest powerful and mysterious enemy?

Blow up grain silos!!

U.S-led raids hit grain silos in Syria

U.S.-led air strikes hit grain silos and other targets in Islamic State-controlled territory in northern and eastern Syria overnight, killing civilians and wounding militants, a group monitoring the war said on Monday.

The aircraft may have mistaken the mills and grain storage areas in the northern Syrian town of Manbij for an Islamic State base, said the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. There was no immediate comment from Washington.

That’ll leave a mark!

Reading Between The Lines

15 Wounded At Miami Nightclub Shootout

You know how you can read a story about somebody in politics, and play “spot the Democrat” because the person’s party is never mentioned? Surprise, surprise, the same “standard” applies to race. Nothing to see here, move along.

A shooting sent terrified patrons scrambling from a Miami nightclub early Sunday and left 15 people wounded, including an 11-year-old child, authorities said.

When Miami police and rescue crews arrived at a club called The Spot around 1 a.m., they said they found chaos among the large throng of adults and teenagers gathered there. Rescuers found wounded people inside and outside the club, some too hurt to flee, Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said.

He told The Associated Press that the first emergency crews arriving on the scene were warned to use caution “because there was still active shooting taking place in the area.”

At least one person was reported in critical condition but the extent of the other injuries wasn’t immediately known.

Some people were running, “people were screaming, people were saying they were shot,” Carroll said, adding others were yelling for help for friends who had been shot.

The party in the new club continued into the wee hours Sunday morning. Strawberry daiquiris flowed. Music from DJ Bay Bay pulsed. Teens were chilling and dancing.

Then came the gunfire.

Witnesses said they heard dozens of rounds, maybe 100, rip through a storefront Miami nightclub called The Spot, wedged between a furniture store and a smoke shop.

When the gunfire stopped, 15 young people were wounded, bloodied and dazed, the youngest of them 11 years old, the oldest 25.

Some made it to the hospital themselves, others needed help from fellow party-goers. Still others were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital by Miami paramedics.

One 15-year-old boy was in critical but stable condition Sunday. Most of the other wounds were not life-threatening, and some of the injured were treated and released.

Police say they don’t yet know the motive for a shooting at a Miami nightclub that injured 15 people, many of them teenagers and one an 11-year-old girl, and resulted in a chaotic scene early Sunday.
...
Police did not know how many shooters were involved in the incident, which took place at a club called The Spot, Miami Police Department spokeswoman Frederica Burden said.

“We found a chaotic scene with multiple people spilling out of The Spot into the streets and screaming and hollering of people shot inside,” Carroll said.

The injured ranged in age from 11 to 25, according to police.

11 to 15 year olds, out drinking at a club after 1am. Way underage, drunk, armed, and violent.

I looked at 6 versions of this report, and not a single one of them had a quote from a named person who was in the club. No pictures either. One did mention a table outside with pitchers of daiquiris and glasses all around. The 7th version had a picture of the club itself, which is a rather dumpy, run down looking place with bars on the windows. But at last, the 8th version had a snapshot of police and EMS workers on the scene ...

Ah, right. Well. Hmmph. I’m sure it was just typical teen hijinks. Not gang related at all. Certainly not TNB. Nothing to see here, move along.

building a nanny state, one kiddie at a time. one classroom at a time.

The training for a nanny state starts very young.
One day, many of the 10 year olds mentioned in the article, will I guess be members of parliament. One may even become a prime minister.

No doubt a number of civil right lawyers among them too.

You’ve gotta be taught ( with nod to line from a song in South Pacific )

btw .... the term ‘to be told off’ has a slightly different meaning over here.  Or it’s used in a slightly different way. For example, being told they have the wrong lunch is being ‘told off’.

Crisps are what Americans refer to as potato chips.

The packed lunch police aged just 10:

They check for unhealthy food in younger pupils’ meals - but parents are not happy

Hall Road Primary Academy in Hull has told Year 6 to check pupils’ dinners
10 and 11-year-olds inspect children’s lunchboxes for crisps and chocolate
Furious parents have launched a petition against the lunch police scheme
Some children are not eating because they are afraid of being told off

By Daily Mail Reporter

A primary school has appointed 10-year-olds as ‘packed lunch police’ with the power to inspect the food younger pupils bring to school – and even issue warnings if it is unhealthy.

Parents have started a petition against the scheme after receiving a letter telling them to pack only healthy items.

Brooke Johnson, 34, whose children Charlee, seven, and Riley, five, are pupils, said: ‘It’s crackers. I decide what my children eat for lunch, not a 10 or 11-year-old.’

The letter from Hall Road Primary Academy in Hull states: ‘Year 6 will be packed lunch police and will be checking what children have in their lunches, with warning slips given if lunches do not meet our standards and awards for those that do.

‘Your packed lunch may include bread, pasta, crackers, rice, wraps, meat, cheese, fish, small yoghurt, fruit and vegetables. In order to be a healthy school, your packed lunch may not include crisps, chocolate spread, fizzy drink/energy drinks or food that needs heating up, eg micro chips.’

All pupils in the first three years of primary education have been provided with free school meals from this month – partly to stop parents giving children unhealthy food. But parents can still send their children with a packed lunch if they wish.

Miss Johnson, who started the petition, added: ‘My little girl came home from school starving because she hadn’t dared open her lunchbox.

‘She knew I had packed her sandwiches, crisps, a sausage roll, a small chocolate bar and apple juice.

‘I don’t see why she should risk being given one of these warning slips by another child just for eating her packed lunch. It’s ridiculous.

‘If these kids are inspecting my children’s sandwich fillings, how can I be sure they are washing their hands after going to the toilet and aren’t picking their noses? One six-year-old boy was given a warning slip just for having a Kellogg’s cereal bar.’

But the icing on the cake is this quote from the headmistress. Which I think is a gross exaggeration if it isn’t a downright lie.

Headmistress Caroline Holliday said: ‘This healthy-eating campaign has been driven and implemented by our children themselves.’

Yeah. Sure it is. Cos as we all know well, kids that age aren’t interested in playtime. They want to study politically approved correct diets.

Leaks by Edward Snowden and the Guardian have put British hostages in even greater peril.

Every single time I see a photo of this filthy rat bastard, all I can think about is how pleasurable it would be to kill the shit.
Slowly. Very slowly. Blood boils and I see that red curtain.

The Germans btw, have invited Edward Snowden to Berlin, as they have questions with regard to NSA listening in on phone calls and spying.
I doubt the ass wipe would risk possible arrest by leaving his new home in mother Russia.  Oh yeah, I’d also like to delete in the same long and drawn out manner, his lady friend who organized his escape originally.

I don’t suppose we can nuke Moscow to set an example to any others who defy the interests of American national security. Yeah okay, didn’t really think so but it was a nice thought while it lasted.

OK so …. This caught my eye last week and I think you should read it.
The only issue I would take with the learned prof is the idea of terrorists “communicating with each other only in person”.
I recall hearing that way back in 2011, shortly after 9/11.

An intelligence expert’s devastating verdict: Leaks by Edward Snowden and the Guardian have put British hostages in even greater peril

Professor Anthony Glees is Director of the Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies at The University of Buckingham.

The agony of Barbara Henning, the wife of the Islamic State hostage Alan Henning, so genuinely and painfully expressed two days ago, is almost too much to bear.
Her anguish is felt not just by the family members of all IS’s hostages and, of course, by the hostages themselves, but is shared in part by every decent person in Britain.
David Cameron has expressed outrage at this organisation’s sadistic killings. He has declared that the killers of the British aid worker David Haines, and the Americans James Foley and Steven Sotloff, would be ‘hunted down and brought to justice’.
He has promised we will drive back and ‘ultimately destroy’ the so-called Islamic State and the ‘monsters’ who fight for it.

Paraded

IS are masters of propaganda. The way they paraded Mr Henning as the next in line to be executed, and followed this with the two videos of British journalist and photographer John Cantlie, almost seemed to be daring our country, and daring our Prime Minister, to convert his fine words into real action.
There is just one major problem with what Cameron has said.

It is that we don’t know where the hostages actually are. Nor, for all this week’s U.S.-led bombing, do we know the precise location of this murderous organisation’s leadership or the whereabouts of its chief, Dr Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi (he holds a PhD in Islamic Studies).

The big question is: why don’t we know? Britain has one of the most sophisticated intelligence communities in the world, second in many respects only to that of America, with whom we share our information. But the Americans don’t know either. Why not?

I believe this is very largely the work of one man, and of one British newspaper — Edward Snowden and The Guardian. In June 2013, Snowden — a former contractor for the U.S. National Security Agency, leaked details via The Guardian about the extent to which GCHQ, our government’s listening post, could monitor electronically-transmitted messages and its capacity to search the ‘haystack’ of vast amounts of data in order to identify ‘the needle’ that might help them defeat terrorists.

By doing so, he and The Guardian implicitly warned all Islamist terrorists throughout the world to stop using their mobile phones, to stop texting their fellow killers, not to use social media — as they had been doing with the greatest possible skill — and to communicate with each other only in person.

The result was that the vital intelligence at home and abroad began to dry up, virtually overnight.

The Guardian happily stoked the fire in the interests of ‘civil liberties’ with the effect that the freedoms of Snowden and his chums — and of Islamist terrorists worldwide, including extremists in the UK — were set higher than those of kidnapped schoolgirls in Nigeria, or the hostages held by the grisly medieval fanatics in Syria or Iraq.

The scaremongering caused a gale to blow through Whitehall and Westminster. Political leaders became terrified of being accused of ‘snooping’ and our intelligence community was put firmly and decisively on the back foot by the politicians’ cowardly behaviour.

Heavy blows to the morale of the intelligence services followed on from the totally unjustified and absurd claims from civil libertarians that Snowden and The Guardian had protected Britain from turning into a Stasi-run state.

Nowhere was this seen with more horrifying clarity than in August 2013, when David Miranda — partner of The Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald, who was covering stories based on Snowden’s leaks — was arrested at Heathrow Airport.

Miranda had been with Snowden in Russia. He was on his way to see Greenwald and was acting as courier. In order to allow a steady drip of harmful information to seep out week after week, Snowden used him to take new and hitherto unseen secret documents to Greenwald — and he was held on his arrival in the UK after a tip-off from MI5.

Despite being arrested in possession of many thousands of top secret British files on his computer, he was allowed at the express wish of Downing Street to destroy the hard drive of his computer and was then released to fly to visit his partner Greenwald, who was living in Brazil.

Downing Street’s argument was that by insisting that Miranda destroyed the hard drive, they would ensure the classified files were also destroyed. But, inevitably, they had been copied beforehand.

The truth is that, not merely were our politicians permitting Miranda to destroy the very evidence which could have been used to convict him — a serious criminal offence in itself — they were also signalling that Britain would not legitimately use the Official Secrets Act to maintain the integrity of Britain’s intelligence gathering capacity.

The message went out, loud and clear, that we would not put up a legal fight against either Miranda or The Guardian to ensure that secrets about our capacity for electronic interception, a key part of intelligence gathering and at the core of Britain’s biggest intelligence success in World War II at Bletchley Park, would remain hidden.

Traitor

If this continues to be the attitude of our leaders, it will no longer be possible to use the Official Secrets Act to keep this country safe.

Snowden was technically not a British traitor because he is an American, but he betrayed the values of this country, lock stock and barrel.

He now resides in comfort in Russia, as the personal guest of President Putin. Unlike the hostages the Islamists take and butcher, he lives in comfort and safety, as do those from The Guardian newspaper who published his leaks.

Their success in doing so is an indication of our blindness. Their work has made ours so much harder.

It is my view that the only way now to get accurate intelligence to deliver justice to the beheaders, and to target our firepower in an area of Iraq and Syria the size of Britain, is to get British boots on the ground.

As long as David Cameron insists this will never happen, all that his policy will consist of is good intentions. And we know where they lead.

Our intelligence services have been severely compromised by their supine attitude towards Snowden and The Guardian’s activities. And our helplessness as the grotesque videos of hostages are paraded before our eyes by IS are a terrible reminder of this fact.

Honeydone

Honeydew?

Honeydid!

Busy weekend.

We’ve washed, dried, baked, and fried, weeded, seeded, shopped, and mopped. Sanded, painted, primed, de-limed. Run the squeegee, and the plunger, hit the stores and staved off hunger. Lost at bowling, grilled a tri-tip, gassed both cars and made two side trips. Tossed recycling and the trash, fixed a table, earned some cash. Laundered, vacuumed, did the dishes; not me alone but with the missus. I won’t say it’s been endless fun, but Honeydew’d, now Honey’s done.

And I’ve got just enough energy to make a pitcher of margaritas before we sit down to watch another bunch of episodes from our Breaking Bad Binge. As we head into Season 5, things are starting to turn bad for Walt; now that both cartels are dead he’s becoming a dark lord himself. I’m glad he’s lost his fear and found his confidence, but I think he’s gone too far.

Don’t Blame Islam!

It Wasn’t Islam That Made Him Do It!

Childhood friend of Jah’keem Yisrael ... I mean Alton Nolen ... says it wasn’t religion that caused this brutal murder. Oh hella no, we was all broke ass killas; 3 out of 4 of us have killed so far.

This comes from growing up poor in the tough, bleak, mean ghetto streets of tree lined rural Idabel Oklahoma, population 7,000 (25% black, 10% Indian, 60% white), along the banks of the Red River, close by TexArkana and on the edge of a giant state forest. Real ghetto.

Alton Nolen, the suspect in the beheading of a woman in Oklahoma this week, grew up in a rough neighborhood in the small town of Idabel, and was filled with anger and resentment, according to a friend from the neighborhood. Nolen “always had a temper” and a tendency toward violence, says Kenneth Tucker, a former Army reservist, corrections officer, and cop, currently working the oil fields in Oklahoma, who was friends with the suspect growing up. Tucker was “not surprised” to learn of the violent attack.

“I knew that he had a temper,” says Tucker. “I knew that, like, most of us who grew up where we grew up ... we had attitudes. We grew up in a rough neighborhood and we grew up poor.”

Nolen has an extensive history of run-ins with police. In fact, when he converted to Islam, it was because he was already in prison on a variety of charges including assault and battery of a police officer. This type of criminal behavior is far from uncommon in the neighborhood where Tucker and Nolen grew up, near Jamaica street in Idabel. Tucker describes the area:

“It’s real poor down there, the economy is really bad. And they’ve had a lot of murders. A lot of murderers, killers. There’s a lot of crime. I saw it a lot.”

Tucker points out that Nolen is not the only person accused of murder from their childhood circle of friends. Mutual friend Eric Blandon was found guilty of murder in 2013, having killed his boss at a Sonic restaurant in nearby Broken Bow. He shot her multiple times, starting with a point blank shot to the back of her head, and then stole the day’s deposits she was carrying with her. He plead guilty and was sentenced to life.

Tucker saw Blandon after he was convicted, when Tucker was working as a corrections officer at the country jail in Idabel, where they reminisced about their childhood days playing football and baseball together in the neighborhood.

Another mutual friend, Corey Lewis, murdered a woman in her bathtub. He and an accomplice stabbed her multiple times. Tucker reports that Lewis, too, was from the same neighborhood and grew up in the same situation.

Four friends, three murders. Tucker says none of the three were ever overtly religious.

Nothing to see here, it’s just us niggas, move along now.

Gun Sales Still At Record Setting Levels, 6 Years On

image

The latest NICS numbers from the FBI.

While gun sales are not directly reflected in the NICS numbers, to a large extent they actually are. Every time anyone buys a gun from a gun shop, there is a NICS check run. Of course, if the customer wants to buy 5 guns at once, it’s only 1 NICS check. And person to person sales don’t often use the system.  Furthermore, NICS isn’t used for the vast majority of “antique” or “reproduction” black powder firearms (nor are felons prohibited from owning them!), so there are a few tens of millions of guns out there that have never flowed through NICS.

So the record setting pace continues. From a basically flat lined history of 9 million checks per year, since the 2008 election the numbers have increased every month and every year. In 2013 there were 2 1/2 times as many NICS checks done as in 2002.

2014 started a bit slower than 2013, but the numbers have caught up, and this year is on track to meet or slightly surpass last year’s record. Every year is a new record. It just isn’t slowing down.

A decently made firearm is going to last at least 50 years with just the smallest amount of care. Many firearms made in the 1880s are still in usable condition, and use modern ammunition. Heaven alone knows how many firearms are in America, but by the end of this year, there will have been 200 million NICS checks done, and we have a population of a little over 310 million. Armed camp much?

And in all that time, going on 16 years, how many “bad guys” has the system twigged?

image

Just over half a percent. HALF A PERCENT. 0.005784. That doesn’t sound like much, but it’s actually a dozen corps (55 divisions) of bad guys.

image

I do this post every once in a while. We’ve been having a good discussion in the gun post I put up the other day, and I wanted to “run some numbers” on the system I proposed. You can find the 8 shot, 16” barrel rifle and the 11 shot, 20” barrel for just under $500 NIB. A Cimmaron or a Taylor’s brand version will cost double that. A Henry costs 3 times as much. Marlin’s 1894 in .44 Mag goes for about $700. A genuine NIB Model 92/94 Winchester? Cha-ching cha-chang baby.

.45 Colt ammo is not cheap, but it isn’t too hard to find. However, the kind of ammo I described is pretty rare, although Buffalo Bore sells just the right kind, for “only” $1.50 per shot. Horry clap.

The soft lead bullets are out there, but far from cheap at about $40/100. Fudge. Lead bullets used to cost about $9.

New .45 Colt brass cases are rarer than hen’s teeth. I looked at all my old suppliers, and only Grafs had any. And the ones they had were pre-primed Remingtons. NTTAWWT. But you can’t find Winchester or Starline cases for love or money.

Five and two thirds years into the Obama Regime, and while the ammo shortages aren’t as bad as they once were, the prices are still sky high. Sky high, and yet still mostly sold out.

Woman Leaves 20% Tip

This article started out at the New York Post as a society piece about how much money Paris Hilton spent partying with friends.

Then it got picked up by New York Magazine under the headline:  Area Woman Leaves 20% Tip by Maggie Lang

Since I used to park cars for a living, the idea of a woman tipping 20% actually did sound remarkable, so I read the article.

Maggie Lange gives us a short lesson in how to easily calculate 20% in your head and then expresses modest wonder that Ms. Hilton added the correct amount to the original bill and got the right answer.

In the enlightened year of 2014, doesn’t it seem odd that anyone needs helpful tips on how to calculate 20% of anything or that adding some simple numbers is a noteworthy accomplishment, especially for a woman?

You guys make up your minds, this is insanity.

I wonder, if I get stoned enough, will the world make sense then?

And Over We Go

Black Muslim Beheads Co-Worker In Oklahoma

image

Blacks: The Face Of Jihad In America

FBI officials are investigating a beheading at an Oklahoma food distribution center after co-workers said the suspect tried to convert them to Islam after his recent conversion.

The alleged suspect, Alton Nolen, 30, was recently fired from Vaughan Foods in Moore prior to Thursday’s attack. Moore Police Department Sgt. Jeremy Lewis told KFOR that Nolen drove to the front of the business and struck a vehicle before walking inside. He then attacked Colleen Hufford, 54, stabbing her several times before severing her head. He also stabbed another woman, 43-year-old Traci Johnson, at the plant.

Lewis said Mark Vaughan, the company’s chief operating officer and a reserve county deputy, shot Nolen as he was stabbing Johnson, who remains hospitalized in stable condition Friday.

“He’s a hero in this situation,” Lewis told the station. “It could have gotten a lot worse.”

Nolen was apparently attacking employees at random, authorities said. The motive for the attack is unclear, but FBI officials confirmed to Fox News that they were assisting the Moore Police Department in investigating Nolen’s background and whether his recent conversion to Islam was somehow linked to the crime.

The police department issued a statement saying, “After conducting interviews with Nolen’s co-workers, information was obtained that he recently started trying to convert several employees to the Muslim religion. Due to the manner of death and the initial statements of co-workers and other initial information, the Moore Police Department requested the assistance of the FBI in conducting a background investigation on Nolan.”

Nolen, according to state corrections records, was convicted in January 2011 of multiple felony drug offenses, assault and battery on a police officer and escape from detention. He was released from prison in March 2013.

Wow, how about that? Multiple drug felonies, jail break, fighting with the cops ... 15 months total and he’s back on the street.

And even with a vile criminal record like that, Vaughn Foods gave him a job.

But when it all broke down, and this guy goes Sudden Jihad Syndrome, it was a mostly regular guy (reserve deputy sounds like one step above Mall Cop. Like it’s weekend work once a month maybe?) with a gun in his pocket who kept it from getting much worse.

And here we go. It’s a beheading, here in the USA. It was done by a muslim guy. Oh, and no surprise at all, he’s black.

Look, we’ve looked the other way for years now, at the hundreds of thousands of black on white crimes. And we’ve looked the other way for years now, at the millions of black on black crimes.

But now we have ISIS, and the whole world is finally waking up to the evil that is islam.

And the unmistakeable signature of evil is the beheading.

And now it’s here. And no amount of bullshit from the lying FBI, the complacent MSM, our inept pResident Choom, or the outgoing racist radical Progressive Attorney General is going to stop people from making the connection.

When heads roll for real, it’s jihad.

Here we go.

Excitement At The Pumps

Good grief.

Gasoline is selling for $2.99.9 at the no-brand station down the road here. It’s been that price for about 3 days now, and today my $20 bought me 6 2/3 gallons. Half a tank. So in my mind, gas is only twice as expensive as it ought to be.

I haven’t seen gas at this price in ages. Last Fall, just before Thanksgiving? And IIRC, it was only there for about a week, then went up again.

And I hear it might be heading your way eventually; NJ has just about the least state taxes added on to a gallon of gas, so we’re the low price leader almost always. Some states, like NY, tack on 79¢ or more. Greedy bastiges.

[ September 24, 2014 ] The price of a gallon of gasoline may soon start with a “2’’ across much the country.

Gasoline prices typically decline in autumn, and this year they are being pulled even lower by falling global oil prices. By the end of the year, up to 30 states could have an average gasoline price of less than $3 a gallon.

The average in Springfield, Missouri, is already below $3, according to Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service and GasBuddy.com. Several other cities are on the brink.

“And there will be more, many more,” Kloza said. Cities in high-priced states such as California and New York will not be among them, though, which will probably keep the national average above $3.

At the current national average of $3.35 a gallon, gas is a dime cheaper than a year ago at this time. The gap is 20 cents or more in seven states, including California, Kansas, South Dakota and Connecticut, according to AAA.
...
Last year, the national average fell 28 cents per gallon between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31. This year, gasoline had a head start. It entered September at its lowest level for the beginning of the month in four years - and the price of crude oil was rapidly heading lower.

The drop in global crude oil prices is a surprise. Despite increasing violence and turmoil in the Middle East, the world’s most important oil-producing region, the global price of oil has fallen to $97 a barrel, close to its lowest level in more than two years.

That’s partly because new technology has allowed U.S. drillers to consistently increase production from fields in North Dakota and Texas, adding to global supplies. At the same time, world demand is not growing as much as anticipated because of slower economic growth in China and Europe.

Yeeehaa for competition and capitalism!! Woo hoo!! In your face, camel lips!!

[ November 2013 ] The last time New Jersey saw the average gas price below $3 was on Jan. 13, 2011. After that, the foundering economy, coupled with unrest overseas, helped create an especially volatile oil market. Gas prices began a seesaw pattern that steadily ticked up. It wasn’t until September that prices began a near daily drop, and that has continued ever since.

Around the country, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas already have average gas prices below $3.

But even with the lower prices, volatility is a problem and analysts say the fuel system is increasingly vulnerable to short-term shocks because refiners try to keep stocks of gasoline low to save money.

So my bit of NJ has had a price dip below $3/gal starting in September 2014, one that ran a week or two in mid-November 2013, and another short relief in mid-January 2011. For the most part, plain old 87 octane “Regular” (87 used to be called “Economy") has been over $3/gallon for almost all of the Obama Regime.

But hey, remember back in 2007, when we had that summer spike, and $3/gallon gas was the end of the world? How little we knew; hardly a year later we’d do it all over again, only much harder.

[ May 2007 ] Prices break record for 10th day in a row, topping $3.20 a gallon; New Jersey only state left with an average price under $3

Gasoline prices broke a record Tuesday for the 10th day in a row as every state except for New Jersey now has an average price above the $3 a gallon mark in AAA’s daily survey.

The latest reading from the motorist group Tuesday showed the nationwide average for a gallon of regular unleaded hit $3.209 a gallon, up from $3.196 on Monday. The group’s survey of 85,000 gas stations, by far the broadest sampling of gas prices, has been showing a series of record high prices starting May 13.
...
Before this recent run of record-high gas prices, the highest price ever recorded in current dollars was $3.057 in the AAA survey, which was set Sept. 4 and Sept. 5, 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. That storm disrupted refinery operations and pipelines and caused a temporary spike, sending prices above the $3 mark for eight days.

The only other time that the AAA national average has topped the $3 mark was in August 2006, after Israel invaded Lebanon and oil futures shot higher. Gas prices then reached as high as $3.036 during that 19-day spike

Yep. Then there was the nasty Spring and Summer of 2008. The speculators went wild, crude hit $145/bbl, gas prices topped out at what, $4.11?  About 35¢ more per gallon than what we’ve lived with now for years. And it was the End Of The World. Because Bush was President you know, so this was the never ending catastrophe that the talking head commies in the MSM prattled on about 24 hours a day. And then, somehow, around early August the price of crude dropped. Like a bomb. And went from over $140 to about $100 per bbl in a month. And by the time of the 2008 elections, gas was selling at or below $2/gallon here in NJ. And when the Big O took power, gas was something like $1.79. And it’s never been so inexpensive since.

Remember, the price of gas is NOT news. Because. Obama. You racist.
