Virgin Galactic Space Ship Crashes, 1 Dead

image

Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo, part of a commercial space venture founded by British billionaire Richard Branson, crashed during testing Friday and broke into several pieces. One person was killed and another injured.

“Space is hard and today was a tough day,” said George Whitesides, the CEO of Virgin Galactic.

Two people were aboard SpaceShipTwo and a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said two people were found near the crash in the desert north of California City and east of Mojave. One of the individuals had parachuted out of the aircraft, and another was located near the scene as well, California Highway Patrol said. Their names have not been released.

The WhiteKnightTwo aircraft, which carries the SpaceShipTwo, landed safely. National Transportation Safety Board investigators were on their way to the site.

Virgin Galactic, founded by Branson, has engaged in a nearly decade-long endeavor to produce the world’s first commercial space liner, which would make several trips a day carrying scores of paying customers into space for a brief journey.

It announced an agreement in May with the Federal Aviation Administration that helped clear the path to send paying customers on a suborbital flight by setting parameters for how routine missions to space will take place in national airspace.

The explosion scattered debris across a two-mile swath of the desert floor outside Mojave, California, and came after the plane was released from its WhiteKnightTwo carrier airplane. SpaceShipTwo was testing its rocket engine in flight for the first time in more than nine months.

“During the test, the vehicle suffered a serious anomaly resulting in the loss of the vehicle,” Virgin Galactic said in a statement. “The WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft landed safely. Our first concern is the status of the pilots.”

...

Photographer Ken Brown, who was covering the test flight, told NBC News that he saw an explosion high in the air and later came upon SpaceShipTwo debris scattered across a small area of the desert. The Mojave airport’s director, Stuart Witt, said the craft crashed north of Mojave. He deferred further comment pending a news conference that is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET).

Keith Holloway, a Washington-based spokesman for the National Transportation and Safety Board, said “we are in the process of collecting information.” The FAA said it was also investigating the incident.

Bit of an off day for me, sorry

Just not really feeling up to blogging today. Not sick or anything, no family emergencies to deal with. Just don’t want to be in front of a keyboard much today.

That being said, I am REALLY upset at the voter fraud BS going on in so many states, especially Maryland.

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/10/29/massive-non-citizen-voting-uncovered-in-maryland/

This is nothing new.

http://www.rightwingnews.com/democrats/free-and-fair-elections-true-the-vote-style/

When we had to deal with ACORN, and put it down like the rabid junkyard dog it was, back in 2008, it was nothing new then. It was nothing new with Franken in Minnesota, it was nothing new with “chad” in Florida in 2000. It’s always been with us, but that is no reason to accept it. Except it instead; fight against it at every level always.

I do not understand WTFFFFF is wrong with Americans. We have become lazy, apathetic, and self-centered. We have left everything for everyone else to do, and gosh, whaddya know, now we’re getting screwed over so much we can no longer ignore it.

An honest and straight election process is the very first baby step towards reestablishing faith between the people and the government. Then we deal with accountability, cost overruns, excess spending, corruption, mission creep, unconstitutional mandates and departments, illegal acts, Kenyans in office, and the excesses of semi-tyranny. Ok, actually we can do all of that at the same time, but getting the whole country behind honest elections and voter rolls would be a good first step.

This IS The Modern Left’s Hero

“weaponized celebrity”; “The Voice Of Degeneration”

EWW EWW EWWW ICK!!

Narcissistic and nihilist, Lena Dunham, the sexual abusing child of old money perverts, simply could not be much more disgusting. So run right out and buy her “autobiography”, probably chock-full of lies by her own admission. Oh, the superb Millennial irony of that, FTW.

GAK.

Psycho choo-choo, moo moo moo.  Lock her up. Looney bin.

NRO’s Kevin Williams writes a superb essay and book review right here.

There is no non-horrific interpretation of this episode. As for stroking her mother’s vagina, having mistaken it for her hairless cat . . .

and this is before the part where she plays tricksy at the keyboard to indirectly accuse some guy - by partial name and by other clues - of raping her while an undergraduate. And another girl too. Yet no reports were ever filed, no medical care sought, even though the walls were splashed in blood.

In Dunham’s telling, she had been at a party, drinking and taking Xanax and cocaine, and went to bed willingly with Barry. But the encounter turned rough — so rough, she says, that she required medical attention — and she noticed mid-coitus that he was not using a condom. She told him to leave; he left.

Riiiight. That’s some rape alright. And then it really goes downhill.

A number of blogs are covering this story as an admission of hers to child molestation. Yes, but it’s so much grosser than that.

Lena Dunham Describes Sexually Abusing Her Little Sister

“...anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl I was trying.”

Obama Administration Allows Fertility Clinics To Sell US Citizenship

The headline is real and it’s accurate.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has changed their rules.  Just a little bit.  Just enough to set up a trade in U.S. Citizenship for foreign born children of non U.S. citizens.  It’s almost incomprehensible that a U.S. President would continue to degrade the United States, yet here it is.  I still haven’t seen this information in the MSM.  The information is right there on a U.S. Government Web Site, yet no one is saying anything.

Here’s the link to the USCIS web site.  I’m leaving the url raw so there’s no question where the link goes.  You can read the details for yourself.

http://www.uscis.gov/news/uscis-expands-definition-mother-and-parent-include-gestational-mothers-using-assisted-reproductive-technology-art

The Daily Caller has a lot to say on the point.

Obama Administration Allows Fertility Clinics To Sell US Citizenship

President Barack Obama’s administration has decided to let the surrogate birth industry sell U.S. citizenship — and access to the U.S. welfare system — to foreign parents who never even set foot in the United States.

The fertility clinics will be able to pocket the profits, after granting access to American education, health, welfare and retirement services to the foreign children and the foreign parents.

The giveaway is accomplished by a surprise change in regulations, which redefined the term “mother” to include women who contract to carry other women’s embryos to birth.

Add this to the list of ways the Obama administration is breaking down the United States.  He’s not doing it with legislation that might get voted down by people of conscience, he’s doing it with carefully chosen bureaucrats who carry out his wishes.  These people will be with us long after Obama is gone.

Guns Are Too Complex For Some; Stick With Hickory Sticks

Jose Canseco Shoots Off His Finger

While Cleaning His Gun

“I didn’t know the gun was loaded”

Former major league slugger Jose Canseco blew his middle finger clear off his hand while cleaning his handgun at home in Las Vegas.

Jose’s fiancée Leila Knight tells TMZ Sports ... he was sitting at a table in their home cleaning the gun when it went off. She says he didn’t know it was loaded—and the shot ripped through the middle finger on his left hand.

Leila tells us 50-year-old Canseco is in surgery right now as doctors desperately try to save what’s left of the finger. She says the bullet tore through the bottom part of the finger and doctors have already said he’ll never have full use of it again ... even under the best of circumstances.

Worst case ... it may be amputated.

Metro police Lt. Mark Reddon says officers responded to a call of an accidental shooting shortly after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Reddon says the former Oakland Athletics outfielder told police he was cleaning his gun in the kitchen when it fired, shooting a finger on his left hand. He was taken to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.

Canseco is a right-handed batter who hit 462 career home runs and was a six-time All-Star. He also played for Texas, Boston, Toronto, Tampa Bay, the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox during a career that spanned from 1985 to 2001.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/29/us/jose-canseco-shooting-accident/index.html

Good grief. Ok, we’ll buy this BS for now. But they’d better come up with a better story if he suddenly needs to go to Betty Ford or some other clinic after this.

And for the rest of us, PLEASE don’t start your gun cleaning session by cocking the action and pulling the trigger. Remove the bolt, open the lever, drop the slide, slip out the cylinder, unhook the barrel ... all of these ways will take down even a loaded firearm without it going off.  Naturally, emptying the magazine and clearing the chamber - twice - is the best way to start, but for those of us best suited for a career of playing kid’s games, at least opening up the gun will almost always keep it from going off.

Controlling A Different Kind Of Disease

Egypt To Build 0.5 Km X 10 Km Buffer Zone With Gaza Strip

image

hundreds of buildings in border town of Rafah to be destroyed

image

to be replaced by armed fence and 500m wide open ground

Following last week’s terror attack that killed 31 Egyptian soldiers in Sinai, Egyptian army starts clearing 500 meters wide buffer zone that extends 10-kilometer.

The Egyptian army on Wednesday began work to establish a buffer zone along the border with the Gaza Strip following last week’s terror attack that killed 31 Egyptian soldiers in Sinai.

Egyptian media outlets and military officials have accused the terrorists, whose identity remains unknown, of being linked to radical elements inside the Gaza Strip. Some Egyptians have even suggested that the terrorists may have come to Sinai through smuggling tunnels along the border with the Gaza Strip.

The 10-kilometer long buffer zone is 500 meters wide, Egyptian security officials said. They said that the buffer zone is part of a massive crackdown ordered by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi in the aftermath of the Sinai terror attack.

The buffer zone will require the Egyptian authorities to evict 1,100 families from their homes.

Sources in Sinai said that dozens of families began leaving their homes already on Tuesday night after being warned by the Egyptian army. They added that among those evicted are Palestinian and Bedouin families.

Also Wednesday, the Egyptian army demolished a number of houses close to the border with the Gaza Strip.

An Egyptian security official said that the authorities have offered to compensate the families who lost their homes with 1,200 Egyptian Pounds ($160) per meter. He said that altogether, some 680 houses will be demolished in pave the way for the creation of the security zone.

“One does not know how far this could reach,” said a farmer in Egypt’s Rafah region.

Abu Taleb who owns agriculture land planted with citrus and apple trees says he fears that the intention of the Egyptian military to establish a buffer zone will swallow his land.

Egyptian forces are slated to clear the area of vegetation and structures in the coming days, in addition to removing hundreds of Bedouin homes in the area.

“This is the worst period in my 48 years in Sinai. Of course we are against all terrorist attacks that hit our army,” Abu Taleb said, indicating that the current security measures taken by the Egyptian military means further suffering for the population of the Sinai Peninsula.

The Egyptian military have issued an emergency declaration across the northern Sinai Peninsula, which effectively seizes control over the region and restricts the movement of traffic and commercial activities.

The Sinai is that triangle of land between the two forks of water at the north end of the Red Sea, east of Cairo and the Nile Delta. The left, western, fork is the Gulf of Suez, where the Suez Canal is. Sinai is part of Egypt. Rafah is a small farming community in Sinai, Egypt, along the border with the Gaza Strip, north of the eastern fork, the Gulf of Aqaba. Most of the land up against the border is orchards and fields. The 10 kilometer length of this buffer zone means it will run the entire width of the Gaza Strip along the Egyptian Sinai border. South of that on the east side of the border the land belongs to Israel, what we call the Negev Desert. The whole area has been a hotbed of lawlessness and terrorists and smugglers for quite some time.

The Egyptian Army on Friday killed a leader of the country’s most active militant group, the Sinai-based Ansar Bait al-Maqdis (ABM), according to a report on al-Arabiya, which cited a military spokesman on Facebook.

The action follows the killing of 16 members of the group last Tuesday, the same day that ABM executed four Egyptian Bedouins. Egypt said last week it had killed a field commander of ABM, Mohammad Abu Shatiya, in clashes south of Rafah, a city in north Sinai near the border with Gaza.

Shehata Farhan, the leader killed on Friday, was implicated in operations targeting police and security forces and was killed during a raid in Rafah, the army spokesman said.

ABM claimed that one of the four Bedouins executed was killed for “collaborating with the Egyptian army”, and the other three were slaughtered for “collaborating with Israeli Mossad”. The first was executed by a gun, the other three were beheaded. Collaboration is viewed locally as spying.

...

Since 2011, ABM, or “Supporters of the Holy House”, have become very active in the Sinai Desert and have a strong relationship with Islamic State groups in Iraq and Syria. Often, both sides praise each other and vow to continue fighting against any Arab army declared by these groups as an “apostasy army”.

An Egyptian security official speaking to Middle East Eye on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the topic, stated that the group is active in Sinai and has been involved in several attacks, including a failed attempt to assassinate a former minister of interior last year.

The group stands behind 13 bombings of gas pipelines connecting Egypt and Israel, and has made it clear that those supplying Israel with natural gas are “infidels” and “treasonous” and has suggested that Egyptian gas will expire in five years.

In one of ABM’s videos, al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri is shown praising those who bombed the gas pipelines, stating “they are those who don’t accept injustice”.

A senior Egyptian security official in Sinai said that membership of ABM is estimated at no more than 200 members in north Sinai, with 95 percent of them from Bedouin clans who are affected by the Wahhabi way of thinking, while about 5 percent come from outside Egypt. In Egypt, the group is declared to be a “terrorist” group.

Oh yeah. Happy Town, for sure. But ya gotta love how the news reporter gets his news from the source - straight off of Facebook.

idiot lefty liars and idiots, and cowardly conservative

Last night, or possible the one before, I listened to a maddenly biased interview by what they call here a, ‘news presenter’.

She was speaking to and drawing the answers wanted from an idiot professor on the subject of words that can carry a negative meaning and by my choice of words you have probably guessed the subject. But hang on a minute.  It’s so much more and so much more stupid.  Yet a number of people are making the same claim and saying they believe it.

Yeah … race and immigration but here’s a twist for ya.

When I said that things are getting more bizarre by the day in another post, I didn’t have this in mind.  After all.  Who would a guessed?

A politician giving a speech last week, used a word to describe how many ppl across the country felt about immigration numbers.

He got raked over the coals for using one word, and some yrs before, even a lefty member of the then Labour govt. used the same word and he also was held to account.
But as far as I know, he didn’t say sorry.

Getting back to the idiot professor for a moment.
The importance of words and how used is important he says, and especially so when referring to mass immigration.
For example.  He quotes some folks using the term, “under siege” with regard to migrants, as the same as being invaded by a hostile army during wartime.  In other words, under siege implies they are the enemy.  Of course, most rational people believe they are, given the types that are dying (but nowhere near enough of them) trying to sneak into Europa and mostly Britain. Good Lady Britain she of the soft welcoming arms that will enfold the newcomers with benefits and asylum and cash and all the things they could never dream about in their homelands.

The prof. had a couple of other words to add, words that we must avoid in connection with certain people and groups, with never a peep from the “presenter”.

So, just what was the exact word that has caused a new storm and caused the speaker of it to issue a retraction of sorts saying he was mis-understood and perhaps he should have worded things differently?

The word of the day folks is ……….  Ta-Da!

SWAMPED

Because swamp conjures up images of poisoned scummy, murky water, with dangerous animals living therein.  So if you say your community has been swamped by migrants well then …. that’s wrong. And racist too.
The “ news presenter” never, not even once, suggested that the term, to be swamped, as in, I’ve been swamped with paperwork, also means overwhelmed.  But no.  Swamp denotes danger and murky water.

Hmmm.  Come to think of it.  There is sort of a connection that can be made.

Here’s a link to yesterday’s paper.  Take a look.

And this IS a liberal speaking.

Migrants really are swamping parts of UK, says Blunkett: Ex-Home Secretary backs minister rebuked by No 10 over TV comments

· David Blunkett has defended Michael Fallon’s comments on immigration
· Former Home Secretary backed view that migrants ‘swamped’ parts of UK
· Mr Fallon was criticised for his choice of words and later apologised
· But Mr Blunkett said he was right to ‘voice concerns of ordinary voters’
By Jack Doyle for the Daily Mail

Specific parts of Britain ARE being swamped by migrants, David Blunkett (Lib.) insists today.
Writing in the Daily Mail, the former Labour Home Secretary backs claims made by Defence Secretary, (Con.) Michael Fallon.

Mr Blunkett says politicians cannot simply avoid the issue and Mr Fallon was right to ‘voice the concerns of ordinary voters’.
He warns of increasing public fears about immigration and says those who claim a large influx of migrants does not create problems are living in a ‘fantasy land’.

Instead of ‘peddling illusions’ around the impact of immigration, politicians must find solutions, he writes.
Mr Fallon had said at the weekend that some areas felt ‘under siege’ and that action was needed ‘to prevent whole towns and communities being swamped by huge numbers of migrant workers’.

Following a rebuke from Downing Street, he backtracked on his comments yesterday, saying he ‘mis-spoke’.

But Mr Blunkett said there had been no need for an apology, merely a clarification of what he meant.

However, the Archbishop Jerk of Canterbury issued an apparent criticism of Mr Fallon, saying he was worried about the language being used in the immigration debate.

The Most Rev Justin (Moonbat) Welby claimed local priests were reporting an upsurge in racist abuse and said immigration should not be treated as a ‘deep menace’ that is going to overwhelm swamp the country.

In the House of Commons, David Cameron told MPs Mr Fallon was right to ‘correct’ what he had said.

LOTS MORE TO READ HERE

Does this tell you where this country is going, when the conservative guy grovels and says sorry, while the liberal says he didn’t have to do that as he was correct.

Gee I wonder why

USDA: Thousands Fewer Kids Getting School Lunches Now

image

Gee, I wonder why?

Since new federal nutrition standards began rolling out in 2012, fewer students are buying school lunches, even though enrollment is going up.

The Cox Washington Bureau reviewed U.S. Department of Agriculture documents and found thousands fewer students bought meals when stricter standards kicked in.

The rules, championed by first lady Michelle Obama and approved by congress, require more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in lunches. Plus, the rules put limits on sodium, sugar, fat and calories.

“It’s a struggle to get kids to eat them and enjoy them,” said Dianne Pratt-Heavner, with the School Nutrition Association.

Might as well just brown bag it. And make sure your kid has a pack of Yodels and a pack of those orange cheese and peanut butter crackers for trading. Because that’s what kids do.

Your Daily Ebola

Getting sick about hearing about getting sick? I know I am. But ...

Australia bans travel from Ebola-hit countries

Australia became the first developed country on Tuesday to shut its borders to citizens of the countries worst-hit by the West African Ebola outbreak, a move those states said stigmatized healthy people and would make it harder to fight the disease.

Australia’s ban on visas for citizens of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea followed decisions by the U.S. military to quarantine soldiers returning from an Ebola response mission and some U.S. states to isolate aid workers. The United Nations said such measures could discourage vital relief work, making it harder to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

“Anything that will dissuade foreign trained personnel from coming here to West Africa and joining us on the frontline to fight the fight would be very, very unfortunate,” Anthony Banbury, head of the U.N. Ebola Emergency Response Mission (UNMEER), told Reuters in the Ghanaian capital Accra.

Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf urged Australia to reconsider its travel ban.

“Anytime there’s stigmatization, there’s quarantine, there’s exclusion of people, many of whom are just normal, then those of us who are fighting this epidemic, when we face that, we get very sad,” she told a news conference.

I’ll take your being sad over our being dead, any day of the week.

And this is why the Ellis Island thing worked so well; thousands were quarantined there, and when their time was up they came through the gates with everyone else. Nobody knew, nobody cared. No Stigma.

I still think we should just borrow an island in the Bahamas or the Lesser Antilles, send them all down there for an all expense paid vacation, and then let the survivors back in. Sure, it’s quarantine, but with rum punch, surfing, fishing, conch chowder, and great tan lines. Shut up, you couldn’t afford this otherwise!

Space station support rocket crashes and explodes on launch

image

(CNN)—An unmanned NASA-contracted rocket exploded in midair early Tuesday evening, producing huge flames and loud booms along the eastern Virginia coast but no injuries or deaths.

Orbital Sciences Corp.’s Antares rocket and Cygnus cargo spacecraft had been set to launch at 6:22 p.m. ET from the Wallops Flight Facility along the Atlantic Ocean, carrying roughly 5,000 pounds of supplies and experiments to the International Space Station.

It exploded about six seconds after launch.

What was left of the spacecraft and rocket plummeted back to Earth, causing even more flames upon impact.

The rocket and spacecraft—which together cost more than $200 million, according to Frank Culbertson, the general manager of Orbital’s Advanced Programs Group—are gone. And there’s obvious damage beyond that, including to the launchpad, though the night skies made it hard to immediately gauge how much.

One thing officials do know is that rocket science is, in the words of NASA Administrator Bill Gerstenmaier, “a really tough business.”

NASA contracted. Right.

It lights off, goes up about 75 yards, loses thrust and slips back down. Boom. The first stage was said to have broken apart. Be glad it was just a cargo shot.

Rocketry is dangerous. Always was. Always will be.

So what happened?

That’s exactly what officials—both from public agencies like NASA and private companies like Orbital—hope to find out in the coming days and weeks.

“What we know so far is pretty much what everybody saw on the video,” Culbertson said. “The ascent stopped, there was some, let’s say disassembly, of the first stage, and then it fell to Earth. ... We don’t really have any early indications of exactly what might have failed, and we need some time to look at that.”

Orbital will lead the investigation, along with the Federal Aviation Administration, with NASA assisting.
