is this just poilitics as usual, with an eye on the may elections?

ECHR = European Court of Human Rights, which member states are the collective slaves of.

Tories = Conservatives

With elections coming in May, and quite a fight by the looks of things altho May is still a long way off, promises are being made left and right by all concerned.
Isn’t that always the way of it?
The ECHR has been a worthless miserable canker in the body politic for how F****** long now?
And suddenly the conservative party says they will try and block it. Why not last year?  Why not the year before that?

I know the USA has problems in what is laughingly referred to as the ‘justice’ as in hahahaha system. But trust me my fellow Americans.
You ain’t seen nothin’ like what the Brits have had forced upon them.  And it isn’t like ppl have been quiet about it.  But now ... with UKIP breathing down the Tory throat and the Tory worry that UKIP will take enuff votes away from the Tories, that the worst possible scenario will take place next May.
A victory by the left wing Labour Party, who on this date have less than a 35% approval rating.  I’m not even a citizen and that thought scares me. And my Brit wife is scared beyond the words to describe it.

So now ... and so far as I can judge, this only refers to the military. Which at least is a start.  The hope here is that the UK will be able somehow to opt out of the ECHR.  Better yet they should get the hell out of the EU. UKIP would bring that about if they could win in May. But it’s very doubtful they can without a coalition govt.  And the only party I can see that they could align themselves with, would be the Tories.  Who say they won’t do it and if I recall, about a year ago the head of UKIP said he had no interest in aligning with the Tories. So where does that leave everyone pray tell?

LABOUR

Oh good grief Charlie Brown please. Not Them!

Tories move to block £85m ‘spurious’ ECHR MoD lawsuits

The Defence Secretary has said a future Conservative government would move to block human rights lawsuits against the Ministry of Defence.

Michael Fallon suggested the effect of ECHR on British law could be “restrained” if the Tories won the next election.

Mr Fallon told a Total Politics fringe event at the Conservative conference that he was “appalled” by the way human rights law is being used against the Armed Forces, and suggests the effect of ECHR on British law could be “restrained” under a future Tory government

He revealed that the Ministry of Defence had spent £85m on lawsuits brought against the Armed Forces under the European Convention on Human Rights.

Speaking at a fringe event at the Conservative Party conference, Mr Fallon said he was “appalled” at the way human rights law was being used against the British military, with the result that millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money were being spent on fighting “fairly spurious cases” rather than on kit and personnel.

Human rights law is “not just being used, it is being abused”, the defence secretary said.

The complaint from Mr Fallon means he joins the ranks of senior Tory figures calling for a diminished British membership of the European Convention on Human Rights.

“We already have military law, we already have international humanitarian law. We certainly do not need European law in this area hamstringing the efforts of our armed forces in very dangerous situations – the efforts they’re making to keep people safe, to detain suspected terrorists and so on,” Fallon said.

“What I’m appalled about is that the ministry has already spent some £85m of taxpayers’ money, not on the Armed Forces or on new kit or equipment for the Armed Forces, but on London law firms who are bringing forward these fairly spurious cases.

“That seems to me wholly wrong and I have agreed now with the Lord Chancellor that his plans to restrict the application of the European Convention on Human Rights will apply to the military side as well. Otherwise we’ll end up with every platoon taking a legal adviser out on patrol and that is simply unacceptable,” he said.

The Armed Forces were already aware of the restraints, and what they were allowed to do, Mr Fallon said, adding that the last thing they needed was more European law “enveloping the way they work”.

When pressed on how such a use of the ECHR against the MoD’s operations would be redressed, Mr Fallon said:

“You’re going to hear, I hope, from the Lord Chancellor what plans he has in the manifesto for the next government to restrain the effect of the Convention on our domestic law, and that in my view – and he agrees – should include its growing application to military operations.”

PoliticsHome

I’ll trust LyndonB to correct me if I have it all wrong.

The May election as I see it now, could be a turning point.  There’s almost always hope at least. That does not read like I’m very positive. Does it?

And Over The Edge We Go, Again

CDC: DALLAS PATIENT HAS EBOLA

Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed that a person in Dallas definitely has the Ebola virus. Tuesday’s official determination makes the patient, now isolated at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, the first diagnosed Ebola case in the United States.
...
CDC Director Thomas Frieden related the information that the individual who tested positive had traveled to Liberia.
...
“We received in our laboratory today specimens from the individual, tested them, and they tested positive for Ebola,” Frieden stated. “The State of Texas also operates a laboratory that found the same results.” After the confirmation statement, Frieden went on to stress that the testing for Ebola is very accurate, saying that it is a PCR test of blood.

As far as the medical condition of the infected patient, Frieden said that he “is critically ill at this point.”
...
After confirmation of the virus, the City of Dallas was put on Level 2: High Readiness. The city is now working closely with DCHHS and the CDC.

Nice try, but it’s already too late. Bring in the Army, and cordon off the city. Food gets in, but nothing and no one gets out. Yeah, right, like that’s even possible.

The first case of Ebola diagnosed in the U.S. has been confirmed in a man who recently traveled from Liberia to Dallas, sending chills through the area’s West African community whose leaders urged caution to prevent spreading the virus.

The unidentified man was critically ill and has been in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital since Sunday, federal health officials said Tuesday. They would not reveal his nationality or age.

Authorities have begun tracking down family, friends and anyone else who may have come in close contact with him and could be at risk. Officials said there are no other suspected cases in Texas.

At the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Director Tom Frieden said the man left Liberia on Sept. 19, arrived the next day to visit relatives and started feeling ill four or five days later. Frieden said it was not clear how the man became infected.

“I have no doubt that we’ll stop this in its tracks in the U.S. But I also have no doubt that — as long as the outbreak continues in Africa — we need to be on our guard,” Frieden said, adding that it was possible someone who has had contact with the man could develop Ebola in the coming weeks.

“But there is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here,” he said.

Stanley Gaye, president of the Liberian Community Association of Dallas-Fort Worth, said the 10,000-strong Liberian population in North Texas is skeptical of the CDC’s assurances because Ebola has ravaged their country.

I have exactly ZERO faith that it will be stopped. The guy was out and about in the population for nearly a week before even going to a doctor. It will be a miracle if there aren’t 100 cases reported by two weeks from now. The evil genie is out of the bottle; the New Black Death is now here.

The above assertion is at least 4/6 correct. Look everyone up and see for yourself.

Another

Extremist Muslims are recruiting willing American blacks for violent jihad against their own fellow citizens.
...
Remember Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., Obama’s minister? Wright’s “God D–n America” and radical “social justice” message is actually a widely held point of view among black ministers. I have interviewed more than 500 black minsters on my radio show. Most of them promote racism and are helping to keep blacks angry.

Blacks are also encouraged to remain angry by so-called “leaders” in this administration.

When Attorney General Eric Holder announced he was resigning, my response was “Good riddance to bad rubbish.” Holder, along with Al Sharpton (the White House’s point man on race relations), has inflamed tensions in Ferguson and across America.

Last week during his address to the U.N., Holder’s boss, Obama, apologized to the world for America’s “own racial and ethnic tensions” and evoked the Michael Brown shooting and Ferguson.

When I moved to Los Angeles from Alabama at the age of 18, I listened to Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson and other black preachers. They blamed white racism for every ill in the black community. Many blacks accepted this lie – further reinforcing their anger.
...
If the anger and racism in black America is not exposed and dealt with, we will see more beheadings and bloodshed like we’ve seen in Oklahoma.

For “This”, there is this too.

Dick pics force Newmark, Minister For Civil Society, to pull out early

Tory minister Brooks Newmark quits over sex scandal

A Tory minister leading David Cameron’s drive for more women in politics exchanged X-rated photos with an undercover reporter posing as a female party activist.

Married dad-of-five Brooks Newmark, 56, who co-founded campaign group Women2Win, stepped down as Minister for Civil Society yesterday - and today admitted he had been “a complete fool”.

The MP for Braintree, Essex swapped sexually explicit images and asked to meet the reporter, who was posing as a young Tory PR girl called Sophie while investigating the alleged inappropriate use of social media by MPs.

Newmark initiated a private message conversation online and, during flirtatious chats and photo exchanges, sent a graphic snap exposing himself while wearing a pair of paisley pyjamas.

During a late-night chat with the undercover reporter, who had sent him an explicit picture supposedly of “Sophie”, Newmark asked for a more explicit picture “without your hands in the way and legs parted”. He then said: “I will send you something in return – that way we each have a secret.”

The sleaze scandal will send shock waves through Downing Street as the Tories state their case for re-election at their party conference this week.

It heaps fresh embarrassment on the Prime Minister who faces accusations of sexism after failing to attract women to take up leading political positions.

And I always thought that Englishness was about keeping a stiff upper ... something or other.

PS - Oh, and this makes me especially proud: Brooks Newmark is an American, born in Westport, CT. Isn’t it wonderful that he could find a career in government, even as an ex-pat?

america’s allies.  not necessarily friends … a parting shot from one of them.

During WW2, on one of his many show overseas for the troops, Bob Hope brought on stage a young and beautiful Francis Langford. Addressing the troops he said,
“I just want you fellas to see what you’re fighting for.”
Which was greeted by laughter and applause.

Well …. in case you folks haven’t seen this yet, allow me to show you a man the American taxpayer has assisted and spent fortunes on as well as American and allied lives. The former head of state of bArf-ganland, Hamid Karzais, had this parting shot for the Pakis and Uncle Sam.

I guess in the circumstances there wasn’t anyone else and so we were stuck with him.
According to him, the USA along with our allied and ‘trusted’ friend Pakistan, are much in favor of “perpetual war.”

Take a look.  I just want everyone to see who we’ve spent lives and monies on for the last ten years. Or is it longer?  (yes I’m aware we do have some self interests, but …)

Outgoing President Hamid Karzai takes a parting shot at US claiming Washington wanted war in Afghanistan

In farewell speech, Mr Karzai thanks countries for help but not America for its $100bn aid.

Outgoing Afghan President Hamid Karzai used his farewell speech to take one last swipe at the United States, capping an often testy relationship with an accusation that America has never wanted peace in Afghanistan.

Mr Karzai, the only president Afghanistan had had since the US-led invasion in 2001, said Washington had wanted war in Afghanistan “because of its own interests”. His relationship with the US has grown increasingly fragile in recent years, but the diplomatic US-Afghan relationship may be reset when President-elect Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai will be sworn in.

The US has spent more than $100bn (£61bn) on aid in Afghanistan since 2001 to train and equip the country’s security forces, to pave crumbling dirt roads, to upgrade hospitals and to build schools. But Mr Karzai thanked a slew of other countries for their help – India, Japan, China, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Germany – without mentioning the US. The speech portrayed the White House and the military leaders of neighbouring Pakistan as backing perpetual war.

“If America and Pakistan really want it, peace will come to Afghanistan,” he said. “War in Afghanistan is based on the aims of foreigners. The war in Afghanistan is to the benefit of foreigners. But Afghans on both sides are the sacrificial lambs and victims.”

More than 2,200 US personnel have died in Afghanistan?, with nearly 20,000 wounded.

The United Nations says 8,000 Afghan civilians have been killed in the conflict over the past five years. For years Mr Karzai has railed against US military strikes for the civilian casualties that some of them cause – although the UN has said insurgents are to blame for the overwhelming majority of casualties.

In his final year in office, Mr Karzai refused to sign a security agreement with the US that would set the legal framework to allow about 10,000 American military advisers and trainers to stay in the country next year. Mr Ghani has said he will sign it.

Mr Karzai’s relationship with President Barack Obama is seen as weak, though US Secretary of State John Kerry appears to have a rapport with the outgoing Afghan President.
