Possible Side Effects Include ….

How many of you ever read the warning labels on the pills your doctor and pharmacist give you? Let’s see a show of hands .... .... .... that’s what I thought. None of you goobers knows how much danger you’re in. Take a careful read of this prescription pamphlet and be aware of the risks you take every time you pop one of those little blue/pink/orange/white/purple pills.

Be sure to read the fine print!

Keeping Faith

The 230th Marine Corps Birthday Ball
Saturday, November 5, 2005

Corporal Jim: Eight terrorists ambushed him in Fallujah as he was doing house-to-house search.. After being wounded, he got five with a grenade, then shot another before he lost consciousness.  His buddies finished the job for him. He has a titanium repaired jaw, part of his tongue gone, and wounds in five other places.  He’s ready to go back on active duty after his next three surgeries.  He walks tall and proud and looks strong. The puckered skin in the corner of his mouth makes him look better.

Sgt. Mary: is dignified and serious. She wears her Purple Heart well. Her fellow Marines rocked the room with OOH-RAHS when she stood to be honored.

Staff Sgt. (Ret’d) Don: (a friend of mine) bears the distinction and honor of being called “A Crazy MoFo”.  You want him next to you in combat, but want to avoid him whilst out in town on Liberty.  He’s been up and down the ranks more than once. He says he made Sergeant in Korea, Corporal in Japan, and Private in San Francisco.  He has five Purple Hearts and two Silver Stars— I kid him that the second Silver Star was awarded during a recess in his General Courts Martial. In Vietnam, his squad captured a huge North Vietnamese artillery piece—the biggest in the war. They heard it fire, spotted it in a clearing, and charged while the crew was reloading. The reporter from “Stars & Stripes” asked him what went thru his mind when he first saw that enormous piece, and the crew spotted him and his squad? “Jesus H. CHRIST! I hope they don’t fire that motherf-----!” That quote didn’t make the newspaper.

Gunny (Gunnery Sergeant) Jim (Ret’d):  would have liked to have stayed in the Corps past his Twenty (years), but Jimmy “Blowjobs For Dictators” Carter decided to Give Peace A Chance, and started big military cutbacks.  Jim says he has ten kids. He still counts the one that died at age five.

Lance Corporal Ted: was waiting outside the women’s room holding a pair of gold glitter high heels.  I complimented him on how well they matched his Dress Blues.  He complimented me on how well the purse I was holding matched my eyes. I demonstrated how a Real Man carries his wife’s purse.  I asked him if he had yet purchased Feminine Hygiene supplies?  No, but he’s only engaged, not married.

Corporal Tom: was one of the first black men allowed to join the Marines in 1942.  We agreed that it was not due to a sudden guilty change of heart by the U.S. Government. He loves his Country and The Corps.

Lieutenant Colonel Jane: introduced herself, again, same as last year, “Hi, I’m Jane”. Yes, Ma’am, I ain’t never called a Marine Officer by her/his first name yet, and I ain’t gonna start today.

imageimageFrank Schaeffer (not a veteran) was our speaker. He was “a successful novelist living in “Volvo-driving, higher-education-worshipping” Massachusetts. He had a son who graduated from Georgetown and a daughter who graduated from New York University. Then his youngest child, straight out of high school, decided to join the U.S. Marine Corps.” Parents visiting the private school administration wanted to know what they had done wrong. Read his book: “Keeping Faith: A Father-Son Story About Love and the United States Marine Corps”.

There was, of course, the traditional “Cockroach Dance” —done to the tune of “Wipeout”—Surfaris, 1962 . Male Marines only—and for good reason.  You get in a large circle, dance / clap your hands, then when the staccato drum solo starts, everyone flops on his back and kicks his legs in the air like a overturned cockroach.  The DJ pronounced it the coolest thing he’d ever seen.

Our speaker said the Marine Corps is “the Bank” where values of Duty, Honor, Country are saved and preserved during times like ours.  I remembered how the monasteries copied and preserved the works of Western Civilization during the Dark Ages.

Some of us older guys were the worse for wear and age.  Everyone stood at Attention tall and proud during the presenting of the Colors, the National Anthem, and The Marine Corps Hymn.

Each group of Marines from different Wars (NOT conflicts NOT police actions) were asked to stand and be honored.  And they were honored.  There were only three from WW2.

There was single table and chair, left empty, for those who have gone before. When I was in The Corps, Sergeants didn’t hug each other.  Our loss.

Most people rented rooms at the hotel where the Birthday Bash was held.  Just as well, because I saw a lot of foolin’ around on the dance floor during the slow numbers.  Only the brave deserve the fair.

Presidents had better think long and hard before sending these men and women to die.  “Getting Wasted” (greased, blown away, KIA) had damn well better remain a metaphor.

I cried, but I feel ever so much better.  I always do, this time of year. Where do we get men like these?  How do we deserve women like these?

Trailer Parks Trashed In Indiana

Why do people in the Midwest live in mobile homes? Surely they realize by now that God really hates trailer parks ...?

imageimageTornado Kills 22 In Indiana
EVANSVILLE, Indiana (CNN)

At least one tornado ripped through southern Indiana near Evansville before dawn Sunday, killing at least 22 people and injuring about 230 in the deadliest day of twisters in more than seven years. Related storms also caused extensive damage and killed horses at a Kentucky race track as a line of severe thunderstorms crossed the area.

Rescuers searched for survivors past nightfall amid the ruins of numerous mobile homes in Evansville, where witnesses said several trailers had been picked up by the winds and tossed into a nearby lake. Adam Groupey, deputy director of emergency management for Evansville and Vanderburgh County, said the tornado touched down about 2 a.m. in Henderson County, Kentucky, then crossed the Ohio River and hit an Evansville mobile home park before moving into Warrick County.

One resident of the trailer park told WFIE of Evansville she saw a tornado pick up a car with members of her family in it and toss the vehicle into a tree. Brandi Crawley said no one was seriously injured. “The damage is very, very extensive,” said Chad Bennett, an assistant fire chief in Newburgh, in Warrick County. He said the hardest hit area of Newburgh was just north of the city limits.

He described the “scope of the damage” as “very shocking.” “There was a whole apartment complex that lost all of the top floors of the units and then some of the second floors,” Bennett told CNN. “I talked to people who were in the streets crying.” Bennett estimated the damage path was about 3/4 of a mile wide and 20 miles long.

Spain Is Next

Look for the riots, looting and burning in Europe to spread to Spain any day now. The Euro-Peons policies regarding illegal immigrants is starting to catch up with them. The outsiders come to Europe looking for jobs and money and when they don’t find them they get angry. Unfortunately, the countries of Europe have tied their own hands with lax immigration policies and complete lack of enforcement, not to mention stagnant economies and double-digit unemployment rates. Key quote below: “Through March this year, Spain issued more than 9,000 expulsion orders against people from such countries—meaningless documents it cannot enforce.”

On our side of the pond, has anyone considered what we’ll do if the 11 million illegal Mexicans in the US ever start rioting and looting? I’ve thought about it and all I’ll say is I am well prepared. Very well prepared ....

African Immigrants in Spain Scraping By
MADRID, Spain (AP)

The luckier ones sleep in crowded apartments or shelters and do construction work, dodging inspectors or using a friend’s papers. The less fortunate live in parks and hand out fliers, toiling for a pittance. They are Africans in limbo, scraping by in a country that does not want them but cannot expel them. And this tough life is their prize after long, dangerous journeys from destitute homelands that won’t take them back.

Their plight was thrust into the spotlight when hundreds of sub-Saharan Africans scaled razor-wire fences to cross from Morocco into the Spanish enclaves of Melilla and Ceuta in late September and early October. Eleven were killed in clashes with security forces. The Africans’ goal is to reach mainland Spain and find work, or move on to another European country. But whatever they may have expected, what they found is not paradise.

Consider Billy Oduagbon, a 21-year-old Nigerian who traveled through Niger and Algeria en route to Madrid. After months of begging in Tangiers, he made it to Melilla, on Morocco’s northern coast, but was daunted by the city’s razor-wire fences. He returned to Tangiers and boarded a rickety boat—the most common conduit for Africans trying to reach Spain. The trip across the Strait of Gibraltar was terrifying—56 people, men, women and two babies, braving a choppy waterway in the dead of night. “We were just playing with our lives,” he said. “If there was no God, I believe I would not be living today.”

He arrived in southern Spain in January 2003, was immediately arrested, spent two days in a holding facility and was then abandoned to the streets. “They set us free at 8 o’clock, in the big night,” Oduagbon said. Ultimately he made it to Madrid where he lives in the streets or in a Red Cross shelter. He has made a bit of money flagging down drivers looking for parking spots, but without a work permit, a steady job is a dream, he says.

Other Africans like him have ended up peddling drugs. Oduagbon won’t criticize them. “A situation can change anybody in this life,” he said. The government can’t expel Oduagbon because he arrived without a passport and so can’t prove he is from Nigeria—one of few countries south of the Sahara desert that has an agreement allowing Spain to repatriate illegal migrants. Countries without such accords refuse to take emigrants back. Through March this year, Spain issued more than 9,000 expulsion orders against people from such countries—meaningless documents it cannot enforce.

What’s In A Name?

As you read the politically incorrect story below, bear in mind that I have written the mayor and suggested they change the name to either Honkeytown or Gringoville. So far, I have received no reply ....

Texas City Split Over Vote to Change Name
WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas (AP)

In the 1840s, a village of white pioneers sprang up amid several American Indian encampments. Its name, White Settlement, seemed fitting at the time. Today, some city leaders argue the name is misleading and politically incorrect, hindering economic development in this 15,000-resident suburb of Fort Worth. On Tuesday, voters will decide whether to adopt a new name—West Settlement.

The proposal has angered many residents who believe the change is unnecessary and would cost too much. Signs have popped up in store windows urging folks to “Be Proud! Don’t Let Them Discard the Heritage of White Settlement. Vote No!” “It’s a mixed community, a blue-collar community, and everyone gets along,” said Ernest Rodriguez, who has lived here 14 years and opposes the name change. “The name doesn’t have anything to do with the financial problems.”

In recent years the city’s sales tax revenues have taken a hit with the departure of several big businesses—including Home Depot, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores—and some argue the town’s name has prevented new businesses from coming to town to fill the gaps. White Settlement is landlocked by Fort Worth and several smaller cities, so when the companies couldn’t expand they relocated to larger properties outside the city about a mile away.

“It raises a red flag,” said Grant Jackson, a White Settlement Chamber of Commerce vice president. “Texas has kind of a redneck image, cowboys and everything rough and tough, so a politically incorrect-sounding name is more apt to take wings when it’s part of Texas.” Opponents say city leaders have not been aggressive or flexible enough in working to attract new business.

“There is nothing wrong with the name White Settlement, and the majority here is proud of the name,” said former City Councilman Alan Price, who made 2,000 “Vote No” signs. The city is about 86 percent white, according to 2000 U.S. Census figures. Residents on both sides of the name-change issue say it hasn’t had a reputation for racism. But some black newcomers say they have felt shunned. New Orleans residents Adrienne Hansberry, her boyfriend, Clarence Goods, and a dozen of their relatives recently were brought to the area after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

“When I heard that we’d be going to White Settlement, I was like, ‘I don’t think I want to move there,’ “ Hansberry said. “We are decent citizens, but we haven’t been treated like that.” Goods said their apartment neighbors—most of them white but also some Hispanics—have been moving out in droves, some in the middle of the night. The couple also said they know of other hurricane refugees of various races who have felt unwelcome in several communities.

If the name change is approved, the city would spend about $25,000 initially to revise the name on police cars, uniforms and legal documents, Mayor James Ouzts said. “We’ve got to get serious about looking forward,” Ouzts said. “The history is there, but we can hang onto that to the point that it chokes us.”

Gut Check Time

Both Virginia Tech (#3) and UCLA (#7) fell by the wayside on Saturday. There are now only three undefeated teams left ....

image    image    image

USC currently ranked first in the BCS standings, has games left at California (6-2) on Nov. 12, and at home against Fresno State (7-1) on Nov. 19 and UCLA (8-1) on Dec. 3. USC appears to have the easiest schedule, except for having to face UCLA, who may now be out of the BCS bowl picture and would love nothing better than to spoil USC’s record and ruin their chances for a three-peat National Championship.

Texas second in the BCS, is home to Kansas on Nov. 12, at Texas A&M on Nov. 25 and then would play in the Big 12 title game on Dec. 3. Texas has two tough games in Kansas (5-4), who put a 40-15 thumping on Nebraska last week and are all fired up. The annual Battle For Texas is at A&M (5-4) this year and is always a toss-up, even when one team is playing badly, like A&M has been all year .... especially when one team is playing badly. Texas will then have to face Colorado (7-2) for the Big 12 title. The Longhorns have their work cut out for them.

Alabama fourth in the BCS and likely to move up next week, is home to LSU (#6) on Nov. 12, at Auburn (#17) on Nov. 19, and then would play in the SEC title game on Dec. 3. Bless their hearts, my boys in Crimson and White have the toughest road of all with LSU (7-1) coming to Tuscaloosa next week and then having to take on bitter, cross-state rival Auburn (7-2) in Auburn the following week (AUBURN SUCKS!). Alabama will then likely face Georgia (8-1) or Florida (7-2) in the SEC title game. If they make it through these three final games, there is nothing that can stop the Crimson Tide. Before they head down the final stretch, I’d like to pass this along to all the Tide players ....

Too Much Wood

I have absolutely nothing to say about this story. Nothing. Not a single word. Nada. Zip. The gentle, civilized BMEWS readers will have to carry the .... “two-by-four” .... on this one .... and no comments about a “smoking gun”, OK?

Penis Size Used As Defence In Trial
Accused claims he’s too large to have committed sexual assault
NEWMARKET, Canda (TORONTO SUN)

A Superior Court judge must decide whether to believe a 21-year-old accused who says he could not have committed a sexual assault because his penis is too big. Mischa Beutling, a second-year engineering student at McMaster University in Hamilton, has pleaded not guilty to sexual assault on a friend who spent the night with him after partying at a Barrie bar during study week in February 2004.

Earlier in the trial, which has been in and out of court for months, a urologist testified that Beutling’s penis is in the top 5% range for size in comparison to the doctor’s other patients. The urologist showed the court a plastic model of a penis approximating the accused’s member at a semi-relaxed state, which measured 8 1/2 inches in length and 6 1/2 inches in girth.

He said a woman who has not given birth might have discomfort or tearing if she had intercourse with a penis that size, especially if she was not sexually aroused. But Crown attorney Bhavna Bhangu scoffed at the account, noting that Beutling’s reference to his size as a “two-by-four” is an exaggeration compared to the size of the plastic model.

“It’s hardly a two-by-four,” she said. She also noted that he has never actually measured himself. Bhangu also said the “size theory” was never put to the complainant on the witness stand for her account. Bhangu said the woman was traumatized when Beutling, who is 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds and who she believed was her close friend, forced himself on her. Justice Margaret Eberhard must weigh the evidence, including the plastic model. A verdict is expected next month.

A Better Solution

While you read the story below, keep this in mind: if Blanco were a Republican governor, there would be an outcry from every Liberal rooftop in the land over the “evil Neo-Cons” hurting the little people by cutting back social services. Jesse Jackson would be livid. As it is, the Democratic governor gets a pass. Not to put too fine a point on it but if I were governor, I would solve the shortfall in a very simple and straightforward manner: impose a one-year 20% salary reduction on every elected official in Louisiana, from the top down.

After all, the “little people” weren’t to blame for the SNAFU after Katrina. Why should they suffer with less funding for health-care and social services while their elected officials, who dropped the ball, get to continue drawing their six-figure salaries?

That’s the nice thing about a career in politics though ... you can totally screw up everything and still keep your job while passing along the pain to the voters who will continue to vote for you because by the next election they, in their ignorance, will have forgotten what a failure you were and will listen to all the lies and bulls**t you spout. Stoopid voters! Stoopid! Stoopid!

Blanco Slashes La. Spending by $431M
BATON ROUGE, La. (MYWAY NEWS)

Struggling with a huge post-hurricane deficit, Gov. Kathleen Blanco slashed state spending by $431 million Saturday, but even with the cuts, Louisiana still faces a budget shortfall of about half a billion dollars. The Democratic governor cut spending across state agencies, including social services, education and some lawmakers’ pet projects, but the deepest reductions were a $222 million hit to health care services and a $71 million cut in spending on public colleges.

“State government must work leaner but smarter than ever before,” Blanco said in a statement. Lawmakers could still decide to reverse her cuts when they meet in special session starting Sunday. “Everything is on the table,” Sen. Francis Heitmeier, a Democrat from New Orleans and chairman of the finance committee, said last week. “If we don’t agree with the cuts they make, we’ll zap em.”

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita displaced taxpayers, forced businesses to shut down and ripped through state tax income expectations for the fiscal year that began July 1. Lawmakers had passed an $18.7 billion state budget earlier this year, but the state’s revenue projections plunged by $959 million after the hurricanes - a deficit that must be addressed because Louisiana’s constitution requires a balanced budget.

Blanco is backing a proposal to tap at least $153 million of the state’s “rainy day” fund and to borrow some cash to help deal with the rest of the shortfall. Both proposals would require approval from the Legislature during the special session. The state’s money problems are expected to be worse than the official deficit.

The deficit only takes into account the loss of revenue in the state’s general fund, mainly shrinking tax income. It doesn’t include lost revenue that individual agencies get from items such as license sales and penalties - projected to be hundreds of millions of dollars - or the loss of federal matching funds.

Making matters worse for the state, the Federal Emergency Management Agency last week estimated Louisiana’s bill for the federal hurricane recovery effort to be $3.7 billion. Blanco avoided cuts in some areas, including a college scholarship program, the military office spearheading hurricane recovery efforts, and road repair and construction money.

WAPO Apologizes For French Muslims

The Washington Post thinks the MOOS-lim rioters who are burning Paris to the ground are simply misunderstood youth who are perfectly within their rights to get the attention of the government in this manner. Here is your “Liberal Moment” of the day ....

imageimageRage of French Youth Is a Fight for Recognition
Spreading Rampage in Country’s Slums Is Rooted in Alienation and Abiding Government Neglect
(WASHINGTON POST)

Mohammed Rezzoug, caretaker of the municipal gymnasium and soccer field, knows far more about the youths hurling firebombs and torching cars on the streets of this Paris suburb than do the police officers and French intelligence agents struggling to nail the culprits. He can identify most of the perpetrators. So can almost everyone else in the neighborhoods that have been attacked.

“They’re my kids,” said Rezzoug, a garrulous 45-year-old with thinning black hair and skin the color of a walnut. While French politicians say the violence now circling and even entering the capital of France and spreading to towns across the country is the work of organized criminal gangs, the residents of Le Blanc-Mesnil know better. Many of the rioters grew up playing soccer on Rezzoug’s field. They are the children of baggage handlers at nearby Charles de Gaulle International Airport and cleaners at the local schools.

“It’s not a political revolution or a Muslim revolution,” said Rezzoug. “There’s a lot of rage. Through this burning, they’re saying, ‘I exist, I’m here.’ “ Such a dramatic demand for recognition underscores the chasm between the fastest growing segment of France’s population and the staid political hierarchy that has been inept at responding to societal shifts. The youths rampaging through France’s poorest neighborhoods are the French-born children of African and Arab immigrants, the most neglected of the country’s citizens. A large percentage are members of the Muslim community that accounts for about 10 percent of France’s 60 million people.

One of Rezzoug’s “kids”—the countless youths who use the sports facilities he oversees—is a husky, French-born 18-year-old whose parents moved here from Ivory Coast. At 3 p.m. on Saturday, he’d just awakened and ventured back onto the streets after a night of setting cars ablaze. “We want to change the government,” he said, a black baseball cap pulled low over large, chocolate-brown eyes and an ebony face. “There’s no way of getting their attention. The only way to communicate is by burning.”

Like other youths interviewed about their involvement in the violence of the last 10 days, he spoke on the condition he not be identified for fear the police would arrest him. But he and others described the nightly rampages without fear, surrounded by groups of younger boys who listened with rapt attention. A few yards away, older residents of the neighborhood, many with gray hair, passed out notices appealing for an end to the violence.

A man with wire-rimmed glasses handed one of the sheets to the black-capped youth. He accepted the paper, glanced at it and smiled respectfully at his elder. The boy then carefully folded it in half and continued the conversation about how the nightly targets are selected. “We don’t plan anything,” he said. “We just hit whatever we find at the moment.”
