Council refused to fix potholed road over fears it would upset illegal travellers.

batbatbatbat

Ran across this today. Had to post!
How much more stupid can councils here get?  They’re afraid of the people who are breaking the law by having an ILLEGAL camp.
To make matters dumber, in this case, even the travellers are in favor.  No problem they say. So what’s with the council?
duh.
I will never come to grips and understand this place or the mindset. They’re worried about rioting?  Hey, have you jerks ever heard of the machine gun?
Ratta-tat-tat. Problem is solved. Move on. See? That’s not hard at all.  How about a blockbuster bomb?  You’d have em singing, BOOM ... Why did my camp go BOOM… Out of the gloom and BOOM ... No more problems.

Work to fix a badly potholed road was put off for fear of upsetting travellers at Europe’s biggest illegal camp.

Residents in Crays Hill, Essex, had complained that their once-peaceful road had become a crater-filled track since the 1,000-strong Dale Farm camp was formed.

But police and council workers had ruled out fixing it because they are worried about rioting by travellers who could think they are about to be evicted if workmen turn up.

The decision was branded ‘appalling’ by residents - and even the travellers on the site say work to fix the road urgently needs to be done.

Essex County Council wants to resurface the road but will only send workmen with a police escort.

Essex Police initially turned down requests to send officers, saying it may spark fears among travellers that they are about to be evicted.

Instead they said they would only help after launching a leaflet campaign and hold discussions with the camp’s residents about the planned work.

Earlier, MP John Baron had written to Basildon Police Chief Inspector Simon Dobson asking for a police escort for road workers. But he was told before any work was done experts would need to consider ‘traveller engagement’.

He said before any potholes were filled they would need to create a network of people to negotiate with the travellers, send a clear and consistent message and hold an open meeting so travellers could ask any questions about the works on Oak Lane.

Chief Inspector Dobson added that the issue ‘required a clear communication strategy to minimise the risk of any false perception by the local travellers that the works are a pre-cursor to any enforced eviction’.

Pam Cummins, a parish councillor, said: ‘Talk about tip-toeing around people. When they fixed the road outside my house they didn’t come and ask me first.’

David McPherson-Davis, another parish councillor, said: ‘The road is almost impassable for an ordinary vehicle. ‘Residents complain on a daily basis.’

About a thousands travellers are thought to live in the village of Crays Hill, making it Europe’s biggest illegal camp.

The camp has been a long-running source of friction for almost a decade with claims of anti-social behaviour, death threats and HGVs making deliveries of furniture to the site.

It is estimated to have cost Basildon Council more than £700,000 in legal costs to try and get the illegally camped families evicted.

The travellers have vowed to build a ‘tent city’ on land nearby if they are evicted.

PC Nigel Scott said leaflets are going to be given out at the local school which has predominately travellers children as pupils to explain the work is to be carried out.

He said: ‘If they think there is an eviction there will not just be people from Dale Farm but half the site in Cambridge and half the people from Wolverhampton turning up.

‘It could all turn very weary very quickly’.

Even the travellers think the process to fill in a few potholes is longwinded.

Gratton Puxon, a spokesman for the families, said: ‘I think I speak for everyone when I say the police are not needed.

‘People at Dale Farm want the road fixed as much as residents. It should be done without the need for this rigmarole.’

THE COMRADES IN CHARGE OF TRUTH MINISTRY ADVISE AGAINST PUTTING OPINIONS INTO WORDS.

I know this story or one like it was covered only two months ago. Maybe less.
So this is either an update or a new story. Doesn’t much matter frankly as it’s clearly a window into what this place has become.

Farmer branded racist for telling the truth about travellers

By Luke Salkeld
Last updated at 12:28 PM on 02nd June 2009

Having lived next to a community of travellers for 30 years, Bryan Lee thought he had valuable insight into plans to give them a permanent home.

But when he objected to transforming a field into a new settlement, his input was ignored - and he was even branded a racist.

Mr Lee, 65, was warned he could face legal action from the police and equality watchdogs if he dared to continue with his ‘racist representations’.

Yesterday, the retired dairy farmer spoke of his outrage at being labelled a bigot by officials at Mid Devon District Council.

Their response came after he wrote in March to disagree with plans to turn a field half a mile from his home in Silverton, Devon, into two pitches for travellers.

The father of two outlined the problems he had faced with another travellers’ site and said the application was ‘inappropriate for the area’.

He wrote: ‘The number of families at any one time on the permanent site was an ongoing problem for the local authority, as was the nature of business carried out on the site.

‘This included vehicle wrecking and various small-scale livestock ventures.’

He continued: ‘Horses were turned into my fields regularly. The police were regular visitors, usually to trace stolen property but also to break up fights with traveller families from other sites.’

When staff eventually responded, Mid Devon District Council said it would take ‘no account’ of his letter and warned he may be investigated under race laws.

Officials wrote: ‘It is policy on planning and building proposals to take no account of representations of a racist nature.

‘If the council receives any more racist representations from you, this matter will be referred to the Commission for Racial Equality or the police.’

Yesterday Mr Lee, who lived next to a camp in Broadclyst, Devon, before moving to Silverton, said: ‘This extreme reaction would be laughable if it wasn’t so tragic and damaging to my character. It is absolutely outrageous. I am not a racist.’

He insisted his letter over the proposal was ‘a factual report of my own first-hand experience’.

He continued: ‘I spent 30 years living next to a travellers’ site and it was hell.

‘ I had lots of my farming equipment stolen. If my property wasn’t bolted down, it would disappear overnight.

‘The place was a complete tip with rubbish everywhere. I also witnessed some very aggressive and unpleasant behaviour. I wasn’t suggesting all travellers acted in this way - of course they don’t.

‘I was simply pointing out what happened in my personal experience. I was within my rights to oppose the application, especially after what I’ve been through, without being accused of racism by some jumped-up official.’

He added that the council withdrew the plan after being flooded with 50 complaints from residents.

A spokesman for Mid Devon District Council said: ‘I appreciate that planning applications for gipsy and traveller sites can be quite sensitive.’

She added that the authority had a ‘clear policy’ meaning that officials would not take into account comments ‘where they could reasonably be considered to be racist’.

SOURCE

reasonably be considered to be racist’.

Reasonable?  I don’t even see where that enters it here. Do any of you?  I couldn’t find anything in what he said that could be taken that way.  Except by the shitheads on that council who want to read it that way. And btw, where exactly does race enter into this anyway?
Seems like the asswipes in power simply make up a race and after that whatever group they so designate is beyond criticism.
WAY BEYOND!

Words, all words and all meaningless.  Blow off steam, the pc crowd keeps chugging along making things worse and nobody with a gun to stop the shits.

There is loads of honest evidence in plain view from the victims to police reports and people living in a general area near these vermin. They are trouble wherever they land.  The laws here mean nothing. The green belt means less when they pave over and settle that. They are a law unto themselves and will damn well do whatever they please so, up yours native and other law abiding citizens.  You can stick your clawless laws where the sun don’t shine.
Now move it citizen, we have some more property to destroy.

Criminal traveller scum at it again. Isn’t it time for a ,,,, solution to this scourge?

Last week sometime a politician in Eastern Europe, I can’t recall which one now, suggested a final solution to the gypsie/traveller problem in his country.
Of course, those two words conjure up images of history that aren’t very pleasant. To say the least. BUT ... you can see what a menace these folks are and what problems they cause wherever they go. Not just here in the UK.  And they do this because they know damn well they are pretty much safe from any sort of retaliation. Well, what if they no longer felt so safe?  Just one time, just once, a few hundred bodies showing that the public just was not going to put up with them anymore, and bingo. The problem solves itself, finally.  There’s your final solution without the usual images of camps and barbed wire.
A roundup or two, no more, and there goes your problem. Protesters? Oh sure. You’d have those.  Same solution. Another problem solved. Next?

Travellers seize on Bank Holiday to set up illegal camps
Travellers took advantage of the Bank Holiday weekend to set up camps at two West Country villages in military-style operations while council officials were on the extended break.

Residents looked on helplessly as a 50-strong gang brought in mechanical diggers and set about concreting over a meadow, fencing off plots and install portable toilets on a site at Newent in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

The district council failed to obtain an injunction to prevent the work which included creating sewerage systems and providing electricity and water supplies.

One villager, who did not wish to be named, described seeing earth-moving equipment knocking a hole through a hedge before lorries arrived carrying hardcore.

“I don’t think the British Army could do better,” he said. “Nobody wants them here because it’s an illegal operation, but our main gripe is with the council because we warned them almost half a year ago.”

According to locals, a syndicate of four travellers clubbed together to pay £65,000 for the land at Southend Lane last autumn, although there is no planning permission for it to be developed.

Another band of travellers also worked around the clock 40 miles away at the weekend to turn three acres of farmland in Cricklade, Wiltshire, into an illegal camp.

Kieran Westman, a local resident, said: “They’ve already hard-cored the whole field and they look like they are here for good.

“It was like a military operation. The council served a stop notice, but they ignored that and carried on. Now the place is a real eyesore.”

Peter Colmer, vice-chairman of Cricklade town council, voiced his “disappointment” at Wiltshire county council for not being pro-active in dealing with the problem.

Well now, until somebody wakes up to the fact that problems like this can only be dealt with fatally and finally, look for more of the same.
Uh ... come to think of it, isn’t that what I predicted the last time I reported on this vermin in a previous takeover? More of the same.

The most recent Government figures show that of 2,539 gypsy and traveller sites in south-west England, 893 do not have planning permission and 317 are facing legal action.

A spokesman for the Newent-based travellers, giving his name only as Richard, said: “There’s 50 men working here because we need somewhere to live. We don’t want to cause any trouble and don’t want to bother anybody.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Cricklade travellers refused to talk about what was happening there.

A BIT MORE ON THE SUBJECT OF TRAVELERS AND OTHERS. JUST INNOCENTS AFTER ALL.

Quite recently after another rant of mine on the subject, it was suggested that I read up a bit on the vermin. I’m not clear exactly why since I see the evidence of their behavior here in the UK, and am aware of their behavior elsewhere as well.  But no matter.  I did do a bit more reading and while I may have found some bits of interesting history, nothing changes the one absolute fact written in stone.  Which is that these folks will get away with whatever they’re doing because nobody is willing to take up arms, legal or otherwise, to stop them.  So I guess I shouldn’t complain now that I think about it.  Isn’t my country.  If the Brits are willing to allow the so called Travelers to do what the Germans failed at, invasion, then hey. It’s their country.
But it still rankles.  So then ... here’s a few items I collected in my reading. Of course there’s tons more but there’s a limit on space and you can research the topic as well as anyone else.

image

Misunderstandings of Gypsy culture created suspicions and fears, which in turn led to rampant speculations, stereotypes, and biased stories. Unfortunately, too many of these stereotypes and stories are still readily believed today.

Right. As an example.  Teaching thievery to their children.  That’s just a myth made up by “racists.”
Well, sorry Charlie.  60 Minutes devoted a bit of time to that “myth” and we were all given a view via hidden camera of their sweet little tykes in action.  Expert pickpockets by age 10.  But hey ... cameras lie all the time and maybe 60 Minutes had it in for this group.

Attempts to assimilate the Gypsies involved stealing their children and placing them with other families; giving them cattle and feed, expecting them to become farmers; outlawing their customs, language, and clothing as well as forcing them to attend school and church.

Ah .. right.  “Stealing children.” That could be true and I’d have no way of verifying. But it sounds right. By that I mean, it would appear to be true.  Speaking of which ...
My own grandmother was kidnapped by Roma Gypsies as a toddler and was rescued by her brothers.  One of those family stories that get passed down.

Alfred Dillmann establishes the Central Office for Fighting the Gypsy Nuisance in Munich. This office collected information and fingerprints of Gypsies. The year was 1899.

Interesting. Someone knew that early, recognized the “nuisance” (probably more like menace) and started the process of PROFILING.  Gasp!
There is a timeline of the persecution of Gypsies and especially their treatment by the Nazis.  The confusing thing about the entry for me is, all the people giving witness to what they experienced, are Jewish people.  ??  Not a group exactly known for traveler/gypsy behavior.  But it looked like the person who put it all together had a personal agenda and couldn’t find any of that group who left any record. Although I sure some must have spoken of it.

1926
In Bavaria, the Law for the Combating the Gypsies, Travelers, and Work-Shy sent Gypsies over 16 to workhouses for two years if they could not prove regular employment.

Well now.  I have been told in the past that there is a difference between the two but not exactly what that difference is.  I guess I will have to look it up and spend some time with research.  Now all I have to do is try and find the extra time.  Bottom line of course is ….
These people cause problems wherever they go.  ID’d as a nuisance over a hundred years ago. Difference between another age and ours is, that other generation knew how to face the problem. And dealt with it.
