Excerpt from an email

I have an email thread going on with someone not connected with this blog, over that Homeland Security visit that blogger got because of Senator Whitehouse’s (D-RI) claim that his letter was a threat to the government ...

PS - You no longer have the right to free speech. So the last part of the 1st Amendment is now dead. And now watch it get worse. Much worse.

“First, we will expand the restriction on oral communications to cover all persons, not just federally registered lobbyists.  For the first time, we will reach contacts not only by registered lobbyists but also by unregistered ones, as well as anyone else exerting influence on the process.  We concluded this was necessary under the unique circumstances of the stimulus program.”

- Norm Eisen, special counsel to the president for ethics and government reform

Oh, and forget freedom of religion too, unless you have a license!
“Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, Calif. home for a Bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County.

On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the Bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county.” David Jones told FOX News."”

Speaking of other forms of communications ...  no longer can you display the flag at work, even for Memorial Day

or even have the wrong kind of bumper sticker on your car, you pro-military freak!

Hey, don’t forget that you need an official government permit to exercise your right of free assembly:

But don’t worry, you still have the freedom of the internet. For now anyway, until Chairman Zero puts the cyber-cops in place.

Now, isn’t that just the kind of Change you were Hoping for?

And you wondered why I suggested that your first gun be something a bit stronger than a .22 rimfire single action pistol? Or why I suggested that you buy about 3000 rounds of ammo, to get good with it? To which your response was “Why would I want to get good with it? I’m not a cop”.

178-page report cost taxpayers £500,000. The conclusion of which is …. read this.

How can they spend money on this sort of BS?
Easy. They aren’t spending their own money.

This appeared in the Telegraph but I couldn’t find it in their on line version.
So, H/T Digitalspy.co.uk, where I did find it on line.

batbatbatbat

A two-year-long, 178-page report that cost taxpayers £500,000 has arrived at the unsurprising conclusion that commuters want trains to run on time.

The biggest-ever study of overcrowding and the punctuality of trains, commissioned by the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), has been condemned as “an astonishing exercise in rehashing the blindingly obvious”.

The report for the RSSB, which is funded by the Department for Transport to the tune of £12million every year, discovered that passengers are likely to be in a “positive emotional state” if their train is punctual and announcements are audible and comprehensible, and in a “negative” frame of mind if the service is late and no one tells them why.

Commuters are “chilled out and happy” if they get a seat on a train, but their mood turns to “panic” if the train is late and there is no seat, the research found.

The study, undertaken by a team of external consultants and psychologists, analysed travellers all over Britain and used an “undercover passenger” carrying a miniature video camera concealed in a gift-wrapped cardboard tube inside a carrier bag to record travellers’ behaviour.

The report comes just a week after the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs was attacked for spending £300,000 on a three-year study that proved ducks liked rainy weather

Police constable refuses to mount a bike due to possible health and safety. And it gets funnier.

batbat

I’m not 100% certain the guy was serious. On the other hand, even if he was, in today’s climate he just may have a point.  And apparently there really is a proficiency test lasting two whole days on ....  RIDING A FREEKIN BIKE.  So maybe he was really complying with moonbat regs.

Oh dear,oh dear.  Look what the empire has come to.

PC refused to sit on bike for photo without proficiency test

Police officer Tony Cobban refused to pose on a stationary bicycle for a publicity photograph because he had not passed his cycling proficiency test.

By Daily Telegraph Reporter

The officer said he feared he could get into trouble without first having a risk-assessment conducted.

The community officer was following guidelines from his superiors at Lancashire Constabulary, which state that staff who have not taken the exam, a course taken by thousands of schoolchildren every year, are banned from using a bike.

Pc Cobban refused to even sit on the saddle during the photo shoot at Halfords, where two new bikes were donated to the police.

“It was basically a health and safety thing. I was just being cautious as I haven’t passed the cycling proficiency test,” he said.

“My personal view would be concern if anything happens to me while on the bike and it hasn’t been risk assessed or insured – in this day and age you have to cover all bases. It’s the way of the world.

“I could get on the bike but I’m not massively proficient.”

Inspector Nick Emmet, from Lancashire Constabulary, said Pc Cobban was right to be cautious.

“Our officers are required to be appropriately trained and assessed prior to using bikes for patrolling in order to comply with insurance and for the safety of themselves and the public.

“An increasing number of our neighbourhood officers do patrol their wards on bikes and their communities have welcomed this due to their increased effectiveness and visibility,” he said.

Fortunately, Pc Cobban’s colleague, PCSO Emma Nixon, had passed the test and was on hand to pose for a picture sat on one of the bikes.

But his actions have been ridiculed, even by the Lancashire Police Authority, the body responsible for the organisation of Lancashire Constabulary.

“I think it’s one of these PC gone mad things over PCs on bikes – I think having coppers on bikes is great,” said Cllr David Whipp, a member of the authority.

“I think the balance on health and safety is probably right but there may be one or two occasions where you raise your eyebrows.”

Councillor Geoff Driver, Conservative group leader for Lancashire County Council, also criticised the

“The mind boggles when a grown man can’t go on a bike for a photograph,” he said.

“When I hear stories like this I just think what on earth is going on.”

Mountain bikes are often used by beat officers to chase suspects down footpaths or passages that would be too narrow for a car.

Several forces have banned officers from riding bikes until they have passed a two-day proficiency test.

The decision followed the death of PCSO Christopher Maclure, 21, who was hit by a lorry in Wigan while on a mountain bike patrol in 2007.

A spokesman for Lancashire Constabulary said the cycling proficiency exam they use is a modified version of tests taken by children learning to ride bikes but is “police specific”, using in-house instructors issuing extra guidance such as how to use police radios while cycling.

Muslim Failed Asylum Seeker Kills Girl & Walks Free.  Another day, another victim.

H/T TheOPINIONATOR

Muslim Failed Asylum Seeker Kills Girl & Walks Free

TheOPINIONATOR
30 April 2009

I have chronicled many instances of British judges being soft on muslim criminals - especially illegal immigrants or failed asylum seekers . So here comes yet another case of a FAILED ASYLUM SEEKER - driving without a driver’s license or auto insurance - who was responsible for the death of a 12 year old girl & left her to die pinned underneath his car. Yet this man was allowed to walk free by an idiotic immigration judge to wage yet another appeal of his deportation status.

image

“A failed asylum seeker who left a young girl dying under the wheels of his car after a hit-and-run accident has been freed to the disgust of her family. Aso Mohammed Ibrahim was due to be deported after his applications for asylum and citizenship were kicked out. But the 31-year-old Iraqi Kurd has been released on bail from custody while he makes yet another appeal to stay in the UK. He says it is too dangerous for him to return to his homeland. The father of 12-year-old Amy Houston, who was mowed down by Ibrahim’s Rover car as she went to the shops more than five years ago, has spoken of his outrage.

Paul Houston, 39, an engineer, said: ‘It’s an insult to my daughter. I walk around the street and I’m looking over my shoulder every two minutes thinking, “Am I going to see this bloke?” ‘How many more appeals does he get? It is my duty as a father to see this through to the end.
‘If I didn’t fight then another person would find themselves in this position and I don’t want anybody else’s kid to get killed. He’s just laughing at the British justice system. It is so wrong.’”

Free: Ibrahim was disqualified and driving with no insurance when he hit Amy and left her to die

“She was trapped beneath it (car)but Ibrahim responded by getting out and running off. “

I ask - like Amy Houston’s father does -How many denials does an asylum seeker get before he has exhausted his appeals? How many little girls will die because Aso Mohammed Ibrahim is undoubtedly still driving around - unlicensed and uninsured?

What does it take, in Great Britain, to get deported?

What does it take, in Great Britain, to get deported?

Trick question or quiz? Hmmm. Lets see. Oh I know. What’s it take to get the heave ho?
Uh ... Use the dreaded ‘N’ word?  And mean it.
Hurt the wrong minorities feelings?
Make queer jokes?
Say mean things about muslims.
Admit to being a racist?

HEY ... BMEWS. THAT’S IT!  If I admit to the above, will they pay my way home? Damn. What a deal.

Really terrific horrific system they have in place here.

THIS LINK FOR THE DAILY MAIL WITH PHOTOS

I didn’t mean those remarks to make light of this and hope it wasn’t taken that way.  It’s pretty damn sick and damn well frustrating to read this sort of thing so often, and know there is not a darn thing anyone can do. If you look at the comments by readers in the mail, or almost any paper, the vast majority are fed up with this kind of thing. But it never changes. It’s always business as usual. And that’s totally maddening.

OH THEY’LL LOVE HIM IN EUROPE.  Barack Obama: Bush officials could be prosecuted.

That’s the headline people.  But then I guess you already know.

Question ... if things work out here and we can sell this place in say a year.  Will I have a country to come home to?
Will I want to?

This is really getting scary and I don’t mind tellin’ ya I’m worried more now then I was after the election.  I knew things weren’t gonna go our way.
We all expected that.  But man oh man this is really the start of some very bad news.  Sure hope I have it bass ackwards and am shown to be wrong.
But how can I be unless that line about bowing to the left is wrong.  And come on, how many of us believe that the line is not correct?
Oh damn.  “bowing to the left.”

Enjoy the read.  Comrades.

Barack Obama: Bush officials could be prosecuted over ‘torture’ documents
US President Barack Obama has bowed to pressure from the Left by opening the door to Bush administration officials being prosecuted for approving alleged torture by CIA interrogators.

By Toby Harnden in Washington
Last Updated: 12:20PM BST 22 Apr 2009

IN A DRAMATIC SHIFT by a White House that on Monday had brushed aside questions about the issue by insisting the American president was “focused on looking forward”, Mr Obama indicated that officials could be called to account for the US losing its “moral bearings”.

Last week, Mr Obama made public four memos written by officials in President George W. Bush’s administration that contained explicit details of the CIA’s methods of extracting information from al-Qaeda suspects between 2002 and 2005.

On Sunday, Rahm Emanuel, Mr Obama’s chief of staff, told ABC News that “those who devised policy ... should not be prosecuted”.

But Mr Obama on Tuesday drew a sharp distinction between CIA interrogators who believed they were acting legally and the officials who had approved the advice.

“For those who carried out some of these operations within the four corners of legal opinions or guidance that had been provided from the White House, I do not think it’s appropriate for them to be prosecuted,” he said.

“With respect to those who formulated those legal decisions, I would say that that is going to be more of a decision for the Attorney General within the parameters of various laws, and I don’t want to prejudge that. I think that there are a host of very complicated issues involved there.”

Mr Obama’s dramatic u-turn raises the prospect of the three men who wrote the memos - Jay Bybee, a former assistant attorney general who is now a federal judge, and his deputies John Yoo and Steven Bradbury - and others facing congressional investigations and even criminal charges.

The president has faced an uproar from former CIA chiefs and deep concern from current operatives but also a fierce reaction from Left-wing groups and Democrats on Capitol Hill determined to pursue the authors of the memos and other senior Bush officials.

Mr Obama visited the CIA on Monday in an attempt to placate the agency. But there was no sign of the anger on the Left subsiding as as it emerged that the highly controversial technique of “water-boarding”, a type of simulated drowning, had been used 266 times on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah, two senior al-Qaeda prisoners.

Mr Obama’s abandonment of his previous position that the US should “move forward” and put the “dark and painful chapter in our history” behind it came after he was urged by Democrat senatorsSenator Dianne Feinstein of California, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, urged him not to rule out prosecutions.

On Monday night, Dick Cheney, the former vice-president, told Fox News it was “disturbing” that Mr Obama’s administration had released some documents “but they didn’t put out the memos that showed the success of the effort”.

If this were April first, you’d say I was making this up as a gag. Health and Safety at work again.

Right. It just keeps getting crazier and crazier and ....
bat

Here’s another elf n safety laff from the UK version of what I like to refer to as, The Keystone Kops.  Which in my usage does not always mean police.
Just so we’re clear on that.

Now then .... away we go .... Barmy: It took two presenters, a paramedic and first aider to change a tyre

And for Yanks not familiar with the term, a presenter is someone on TV (or radio) who presents stuff. Like our newscasters would be presenters. A DJ is a presenter.

How many BBC staff does it take to change a spare tyre?

Two radio presenters, a paramedic and a first-aider - transported by private ambulance - was the answer delivered by BBC bosses thanks to ‘barmy’ healthy and safety rules.

Producers at BBC Radio Essex had to fill out a risk assessment form before a pair of presenters were allowed to feature on a programme about learning new skills.

BBC bosses ruled that medical staff had to be present in case the pair suffered any mishap as they were dealing with ‘unfamiliar equipment’.

A request was made to St John Ambulance to provide personnel to supervise the activity in the studio car park in Chelmsford, Essex.

The charity sent along two women volunteer staff - a paramedic and a first-aider - in a private ambulance to provide medical cover.

Garage owner Caroline Lake, who gave on-air instructions about how to change a wheel, said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw them.

‘All we were doing was taking off a couple off wheels, yet we had to have medical experts there in case something went wrong. It was just barmy and so silly.

‘It would be different if we were taking out an engine - but all we were doing was taking off a wheel.

‘A corner of the car was only being jacked up one inch off the ground to get a wheel off. There wasn’t anything that could have gone wrong.

‘I carried out all the normal safety checks and we had proper tools and disposable gloves. I also made sure the handbrake of the car was operating properly.

‘We live in a society so obsessed with health and safety that people soon will not be allowed to do anything.’

Miss Lake, 37, who runs Caroline’s Cars in Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk, was invited on the show because of her experience running car maintenance courses for women.

She said: ‘I had to teach the woman presenter what to do because she had never changed a wheel before.

‘Then we had to time her and a male presenter, separately taking off a wheel and replacing it so we could see which was quicker.

‘The female presenter appeared looking nervous and I reassured her that there was nothing to it and she would be fine with a few minutes training.

‘The producer then arrived and said, ‘Great. It looks like we’re ready to go. We’ve just got to wait for the paramedics.

‘I looked at her and laughed, thinking she was joking. But just at that moment an ambulance arrived with two female staff.

‘It pulled up less than a metre from our car and they took up position alongside it.

‘I was unable to believe what I was seeing and I told them, “You must be having a laugh”.

‘The producer then told me how BBC health and safety rules meant she had to fill in forms and have the staff in attendance.

‘I replied that the world had gone mad and even the paramedic said she thought it was all a bit much.

‘But they also said they didn’t mind being there because they had never changed a wheel before and were hoping to learn something.

A BBC spokeswoman said: ‘The presenters featured in this outside broadcast which was part of the BBC ‘s Big Skill Initiative were working against the clock using unfamiliar equipment.

‘As a basic precaution a couple of voluntary St John’s Ambulance first-aiders were just on standby to administer any basic first aid requirements.’

Richard Bloomfield, a spokesman for St John Ambulance in Essex, said: ‘We have a very close relationship with the BBC in Essex.

‘They contacted us to ask us to send a couple of first-aiders and we were delighted to help.

‘It is a question of how they felt. They obviously felt there was a need for it just in case there was an accident.

‘One of the women we sent was a qualified paramedic and the other was a first-aider.’

Left free to attack 71 women, number may reach 100 while another case as high as 200.

I have another reason for posting these crime stories beside the fact of awful blunders by what I now call The Keystone Kops.
I have always had this respect and you might even say a certain amount of awe, for people doing such an impossible job.  Not one I would ever want and if I did I wouldn’t have made the grade.
Maybe it also stems from having kin (uncles) who were firemen and police.  But that was so long ago. That was in an age when calling a cop a name was NOT the accepted thing and could earn you a sharp clout.  And it would be deserved too.

But that was then and this crap is now.  More paperwork then ever before and criminals with more rights (it always seems) then the victimized public.
And blunders like this but it’s okay because the police said, “whoops, sorry.” Sorry.  Always sorry.  I have read that and heard that so often now that it’s lost all meaning.  It’s just something people are programed to say.  “Sorry.”
Now having said that, it still is not the entire reason for this posting.

Kirk Reid: serial sex predator left free to attack 71 woman after catalogue of blunders

Serial sex attacker

Kirk Reid preyed on at least 71 women in a prolonged campaign of terror after police blunders meant he remained a free man years after being named a suspect.

By Richard Edwards, Crime Correspondent and Caroline Gammell
Last Updated: 9:25AM GMT 27 Mar 2009

Reid roamed the streets of south London late at night for 12 years, hunting down and pouncing on single women as they made their way home.
Scotland Yard was forced into making a rare apology for its failings as the case was passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission - the second of its kind to be referred in two weeks.

image

Detectives had Reid’s DNA profile on file from 2001 and were soon given the make and registration of his car, linked to an assault.
But despite being alerted to the 44-year-old football referee three times, officers failed to piece the clues together for four years - meaning that dozens of women were attacked because of their inaction.

One long-serving Met police officer said: “These are impermissible failings. There is a lot of soul searching as we ask ourselves why and how this could have happened.”

In January 2008, the case files were finally passed to a Scotland Yard murder detective, who solved in three days the investigation that had faltered for eight years in the hands of a local rape unit in south London.

Police now fear Reid, a chef and referee in local Wandsworth leagues for children, women and men, could have attacked hundreds of women who have yet to come forward.
He now faces a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty at Kingston Crown Court of
sexually attacking 25 women since 1995, two of whom he raped.

Timeline of missed opportunities
Here is a timeline of the missed opportunities to catch serial sex attacker Kirk Reid.

Aug 2000 - Sept 2002: Police are put on alert over a serial sex attacker after linking 26 assaults on women in the borough of Wandsworth, south west London.
Nov 2002: DNA recovered from two of the attacks is linked to give a profile of the suspect.

Dec 2002: Kirk Reid is stopped by a police officer after following a woman in the street. He is let go and not formally questioned. The police officer records that no crime was committed but submits an intelligence report on Reid.

Jan 2004: A member of the public gave police Reid’s car and licence plate details after claiming to have witnessed a sex attack in central London but the report was not followed up.

Feb 2004: Reid was stopped in the same car tooting at a woman. He became an official suspect in the sex attacks but no further action was taken to interview him or take a DNA swab.
2004-2008: Reid attacks at least 20 further women, taking the total amount to more than 70.

OH WE’RE NOT DONE YET ...CHECK THIS OUT.
Another Keystone Cops Case and more blunders.

btw, Black Cab here is a taxi.  Used to be (might still. ?) the very top in cab service and the men who drove them took tests and in fact there were special courses.  Especially those driving in London.  A driver had to prove he really knew the city.  Wasn’t simply a matter in years past of just “getting a license.” I don’t know about now.  And the cabs themselves are really kind of special.  Not just an ordinary car with a meter. Very roomy and comfortable. And VERY clean.

Scotland Yard’s failure to catch serial sex attacker Kirk Reid until four years after he was identified as a suspect is one of a number of bungled investigations by police.

By Caroline Gammell
Last Updated: 7:03AM GMT 27 Mar 2009

Just two weeks ago, it emerged that police had arrested and released black cab rapist John Worboys seven months before he was finally caught in February 2008. He was arrested in July 2007 after he had driven a 19-year-old student back to Greenwich University and attacked her.
Even though the police had a statement from the victim and CCTV footage placing Worboys at the scene, officers decided not to proceed with the case.

He went on to attack at least another seven women and it is feared he could have targeted as many as 40 women during that period. In total he is believed to have attacked more tham 200 women.
image

Like Reid, the Worboys case was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission to see what lessons could be learned.
Earlier this month, 22-year-old Karl Bishop was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the Harry Potter actor Rob Knox.

It transpired that unemployed Bishop had a history of violent conduct stretching back to primary school and was known by police as a “habitual knife carrier”.
He served two years of a four-year sentence for slashing two men across the face with a knife and murdered Rob nine months after his release.

Two months before the killing, Knox was named as the suspect in a burglary and a knifepoint robbery but never arrested. The investigation was still “live” when he killed Rob.

The dead boy’s father Colin Knox said: “They admit they made a mistake.”
Last December, the police were forced to apologise to Colin Stagg after they finally convicted the right man for the murder of Rachel Nickell who was killed in 1992 on Wimbledon Common.

A female police officer had posed as a sexual deviant who tried to get Mr Stagg to confess in a “honey-trap”, which he failed to do.
The case against him was later thrown out by the judge who condemned police tactics.

It emerged that Miss Nickell’s life might have been spared had police tracked down the real killer, paranoid schizophrenic Robert Napper, several years earlier.

In 1989, Napper’s mother phoned police to tell them her son had confessed to raping a woman on Plumstead Common, but police never spoke to him or took a blood sample.

He was questioned over a number of suspected rapes shortly after Miss Nickell’s murder but again did not provide a blood sample which could have solved the crime.

REALLY OLDE NEWS. BEAUTY PAGEANTS ARE SEXIST AND BAD AND SHOULD BE BANNED!

Exactly.
People should not be allowed to watch them and so by banning same, perhaps the desire to watch them will disappear.

Young women should find other worthwhile pursuits to occupy their time and talents.  Not that young women have any right to enter beauty contests and pageants anyway.  Becoming a beauty pageant entry is certainly NOT one of the human and civil rights afforded to young women.  Where they ever got the idea that is was is troublesome.  No doubt they are all victims of disgusting immoral male attitudes and twisted male thinking.

Who knows how many young ladies have been forced to enter these sexist pageants against their will.
Surely they (young ladies) can’t possibly enjoy the attention they receive.

And where exactly does that leave girls and young women who do not fit the mold and could never hope to be considered for a beauty pageant?

Probably at the front of the anti-beauty pageant demonstration shouting insults and slogans and trying to disrupt others going about their own business which of course the demonstrators somehow believe is their business as well.

Do these usually very unattractive people have no jobs or other positive interests, beside telling others how to live or what should and should not be regarded as worthy of public attention and enjoyment?  And who are they, that believe they have the right to decide for other women what sort of leisure activity those other young ladies should pursue?

What bothers me mightily is the idea that a handful of shrill disrupters of public order can bring such influence to bear, that indeed a pageant can be and has been, canceled.

Just what exactly gives them the right beyond voicing an opinion, to shut things down for everyone else?  Apparently the women who do enter and enjoy such pageants aren’t consulted.
Maybe that’s why Rush refers to people like that as femi-Nazis.
To which they take great insult but alas, the shoe just so happens to fit quite well.

I have seen one or two beauty contests in my many years.  Personally, I have found them somewhat vapid with a few exceptions. There are always exceptions.  Generally they are boring , mostly because the girls are required to show that they are made of more then just looks and should be judged they tell us, on their intellectual abilities and their ability to end world poverty and hunger and want.  To which I say BULL****.  I simply want to see her in a beautiful and glamorous ball gown and a revealing swim suit.  But not too revealing because too much exposure spoils the fantasy.  Women in gowns and bathing suits that strut across some stage are in effect, in show business.  And it is a Beauty Pageant after all.  I’m rather tired of the arguments made by the hairy arm and leg set that demand to be recognized for their mental agility.  Fine.  Then don’t enter contests you’ve NO hope of winning.  And I won’t ever enter Mr. America pageants or apply for a job that requires the IQ of a rocket scientist.

It’s really all about a pastime that’s enjoyable for many. But the few object because they can’t be a part of it.

Still, one must in the end pity these poor creatures.  They will always be homely and shrill.
None has a hope in hell of becoming like Cinderella, a beautiful princess at the end of the story.

And that’s what I think.  Which of course counts for nothing in this age of political correctness.  (PHOTO IS BUSBY BERKELEY CHORUS LINE)

A seaside town’s annual carnival beauty queen pageant has been scrapped after more than 50 years because organisers find it sexist.

Weymouth Community Volunteers, a charity who run Weymouth Carnival in Dorset, have given the summer celebrations a make-over with a more politically correct ‘Carnival Community Champion.’

Bosses believe the beauty queen competition is out of date and too restrictive as it is only young girls who get the chance to enter.

Sue Follan, the community volunteers’ manager, said: “We feel the competition is now outdated and does not promote equality of opportunity purely by the fact the competition is only open to women.

(Imagine that will ya. A beauty contest open to women. DUH. What a concept. When were beauty contests ever about equality? One always had to be just a bit more ‘equal’ then the others to win. What a screwed up country and screwed up thinking. )

“We have had so many suggestions as to what should happen this year that we thought we would throw it open to the community and reward someone that deserves to be recognized.

“The carnival queen contest is a closed shop that only applies to young, glamorous women and we think it is a time for a change.”

Residents are being asked to nominate a person who has contributed to community and charitable causes.

The winners will lead this year’s carnival procession in August and receive prizes.

Last year’s carnival queen Jamie Asquith, 19, said: “The contest is something I grew up with. There is so much history to it and I do not think it should be scrapped just like that.

“I have so many great memories as queen. I had a lovely dress and won some great prizes. I definitely think it should go ahead in the future.”

Paulette Adefakis, who was 17 when she was crowned queen in 1977 as Paulette Rogers, added: “I had a wonderful time. I was made to feel really special and felt very privileged.

“As long as there is interest in the competition I do not see any reason why they should stop it.

“A pretty girl leading the procession is part of the tradition of Weymouth Carnival. If they think it is outdated they should open it up to men as well and have a king of the carnival.

“I think they are killjoys for stopping it.”

Last week police had to remove angry protestors picketing the annual Miss University pageant in London.

Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Tim Munro said: “Some of our great traditions are rooted in the past and I think it will be a great shame if they scrapped the carnival queen.

“I was there last year and the queen and her attendants put on a brave face in the pouring rain. I would like to see it continue in the future.”

Dubya vs. B.O.

Now, I’ve problems with George W. Bush, mostly in domestic spending. But I will say this: I’d have been proud to have him as my Commander-in-Chief. He did very well in that regard. Next, we turn to the current Coward-in-Chief, B. Hussein Obama, who never did ANY military service at all. I understand that the military is increasingly demanding that he prove he’s even eligible to be President...as in being a native born citizen.

However that proves out, I spent six years on active duty defending my country against people like B.O. In my book, Obama is a domestic enemy of the Constitution.

Under this rule, even Osama Bin Laden is British.  (A BMEWS MUST READ. REALLY!)

RICHARD LITTLEJOHN is a columnist with The Daily Mail here in England.

I think he’s perhaps one of the best, most logical and clear thinking conservative writers around.
I really admire and appreciate good word smiths.  Even if one happens to be on the left.  But I’m especially happy when the best are found in the conservative camp.

There is a very serious problem this country faces, and the left wing powers that be along with the european weenies of the eu are helping to make it worse.  But here.  I’ll let Mr. Littlejohn tell you about it.  Even an American not living here has to wonder about what this country is doing to itself.
Maybe the people here didn’t realize exactly what they were getting themselves into when they voted Labour in 1997.  But they should have.
But then, Blair was a damn good salesman and the thing he sold the very best was .... Blair.

It’s my personal belief that the Labour party is destroying this country.  Even scarier is I am not certain the Tories can save it even if they win the next election.
Stay Tuned.

Under this rule, even Osama Bin Laden is British

Last updated at 8:27 AM on 20th February 2009

Some years ago, in the wake of the Afghan hijack fiasco at Stansted, I invented a spoof game show called ‘Asylum!’

Anyone could play, provided they had no links to Britain. International terrorists were especially welcome.

All you had to do to win was find your way here and remember the magic word ‘asylum’. Prizes included a council house, lavish benefits and lashings of Legal Aid.

It was supposed to be a joke but, as always, was based on fact. I can remember writing that none of the hijackers would be deported and they’d all end up living here permanently, courtesy of the mug British taxpayer.

That’s exactly what happened. The Afghans took their place among a motley crew of foreign undesirables granted refuge in Britain. Top of the list was Abu Qatada, described as Osama Bin Laden’s European ambassador.

image

He’s been shacked up in West London since 1993, when he arrived from his native Jordan on a false passport. Since then he’s cost us £50,000 a year in benefit payments and more than £1.5million in lawyers’ fees.

After 9/11, the Government woke up to the enemy within. Tony Blair announced that ‘the game has changed’. No longer would we play host to Islamist headbangers, dedicated to our destruction.

Britain’s reputation as a soft touch was over. The preachers of hate were to be rounded up and kicked out, we were promised.

Blair knew perfectly well that was never going to happen, thanks to Labour’s embrace of the European ‘yuman rites’ act, which he once called his proudest achievement in politics.

And despite a raft of grandstanding ‘ anti-terror’ measures, Qatada is still here, along with a roll call of psychopaths from across the globe.

This week, after a drawn-out legal battle, the Law Lords ruled finally that Qatada could be returned to Jordan, where he has been convicted in absentia of terrorism offences.

But that won’t happen any time soon, either. The appeals process isn’t exhausted by any means, and will drag on for years, fuelled by a bottomless well of Legal Aid.

To add insult to injury, a panel of European judges has awarded Qatada £2,500 in damages for the brief period he spent in Belmarsh prison after 9/11.

Another ten foreign terror suspects held at the same time also received payouts ranging from £1,500 to £3,400 each.

image
‘YA’ KNOW, I SOMETIMES WONDER WHY I’M HIDING IN THIS SMELLY CAVE WHEN I COULD BE CLAIMING MY HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE UK.’

They include a variety of north Africans with links to Al Qaeda and other terror groups. Most, like Qatada, entered on false passports. They should have been deported instantly.

Even after they were jailed as a threat to national security, they were all free to leave the country voluntarily at any time. They chose to remain in prison and fight expulsion through the courts. Eventually, they were released under ‘control orders’.

And until Britain repeals the pernicious ‘yuman rites’ act, here they’ll stay, indefinitely.

The ‘rights’ of foreign terrorists will continue to trump the rights of law-abiding British citizens, who will be forced to carry on picking up the bill for their expensive lawyers and welfare benefits.

We’re not even allowed ‘for legal reasons’ to know the names of eight of the men we have been ordered to pay compensation. So who should we make out the cheque to, then? There is no end to this lunacy. Binyam Mohammed is an Ethiopian citizen who was granted leave to live in Britain. In 2001, he decided he’d rather live in Afghanistan.

Shortly after 9/11, he was arrested at Karachi airport carrying a false passport, trying to board a plane for London. He ended up at Guantanamo Bay and claims to have been tortured.

Britain is now moving heaven and earth to bring him ‘home’. Yet he hasn’t lived here for eight years and left of his own free will. By no stretch of the imagination is he a British ‘resident’, let alone a British citizen.

We’ve got enough problems with foreign terrorists, not to mention home-grown headbangers, without working ourselves into a lather over the fate of an Ethiopian who was resident in Afghanistan when he was arrested in Pakistan.

In the case of Binyam Mohammed, what we’re looking at is extraordinary rendition in reverse. Instead of flying terror suspects abroad to be tortured, we’re flying them here to be pampered.

Taken to its logical conclusion, the definition of British ‘resident’ should apply to Osama Bin Laden. After all, he lived in London for a few years before moving to Afghanistan. Maybe we should offer to bring him ‘home’, too.

And if Bin Laden was discovered living above a kebab shop in Finsbury Park, he’d be granted indefinite leave to stay, showered with benefits and given access to the best ‘yuman rites’ lawyers taxpayers’ money could buy.

If we can’t even deport Abu Qatada, because he wouldn’t face a fair trial, what chance would we stand with Bin Laden?

Welcome to London, twinned with the Hotel California. You can check in any time you like - but you can never leave.

LITTLEJOHN

Don’t You Believe It

Con du jour: U.S. would “moderate the pace of development” of the missile defense project if Russia helps stop Iran from building a nuclear bomb.

Looks to me like Putin is trying to find out just how big a sap Obama is. Just for starters let’s ignore the past 8 years of Tehran’s “peaceful development” BS.

Hillary Clinton’s State Department is making coordinated moves to try to bridge troubled relations with three countries by escalating talks on deterring the development of nuclear weapons.

On one end, Reuters reported Friday that the administration has agreed to review its plans for a missile defense shield in Europe provided Russia helps curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The news service quoted a senior U.S. official as Undersecretary of State William Burns was in Moscow to discuss relations between the two countries. The official reportedly said the U.S. would “moderate the pace of development” of the missile defense project if Russia helps stop Iran from building a nuclear bomb.

Clinton also said Friday that the United States would be willing to normalize relations and sign a “peace treaty” with North Korea if they agree to abandon their nuclear weapons program.

Plans for a missile defense shield in Europe were originally put in place to deter nations like Iran and North Korea from launching attacks and developing nuclear weapons.

President Obama inherited plans to build the system in Poland and the Czech Republic from the Bush administration, but has equivocated over his administration’s enthusiasm for the project.

It has stirred protest from the Russians, raising questions about whether the plans for the shield could be used as a bargaining chip.

No, that sounds like a Clinton acting under orders from the White House. Never fear, the real Clinton manifesto will make itself quickly known:

“The new administration has engaged the Russian’s anew, listening to their concerns on missile defense. They want to see measures to counter missiles from rogue states. Undersecretary Burns was in Moscow to listen to the Russians,” he said.

Another option is to involve Russia more directly in the development of the shield.

There, that’s a real Clinton! Give away our best technology to our enemies. Use the security of the West as a bargaining chip. Holy shiite. “Change”? Non! Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. [ Bah! C’est le temps pour pousser le Bouton de réinitialisation! ]

Thousands of foreign prisoners freed early – with compensation !!!!!!!!!  What? No Kisses and

Dear BMEWS Diary,

Today is the day after Christmas, Dec.26th.
I was a reasonably good boy yesterday and did not swear and cuss once or use lord’s name in vain the whoooooole day.
Well, not within the hearing of the grownups I didn’t.
I did overeat however.  I committed gluttony but it wasn’t my fault. I was not responsible for my piggish behavior. It was the cook’s fault. And the turkey for allowing itself to become a meal. I think I may sue the farmer from whence that dumb turkey originated.

I wasn’t feeling too well last night.  I kept hearing this gobble noise in the middle of the night.

But today is Monday, whoops. I mean Friday and the start of brand new day.
And dear Bmews Diary, we know what that means.  Don’t we?

I AM SEEING RED AGAIN! If this lunacy is happening here, then it has to be the same in my homeland.

Here I was minding my own own business and that of my sore tummy which thank you was improved after breakfast.
I made a nice calming cup of tea as suggested by my nurse/wife/psychiatrist, opened the morning paper and came upon this on the other side of the first page.

Thousands of foreign prisoners have been released from jail before the end of their sentence and given cash to compensate for the loss of food and board.

By Rosa Prince, Political Correspondent
Last Updated: 8:04AM GMT 26 Dec 2008

Figures released by the Conservatives show that 2,196 foreign offenders have been invited to take part in the early release scheme, called End of Custody Licence, since its introduction 15 months ago in response to prison overcrowding.

As well as walking free having served less than half of their sentence, each released prisoner is entitled to around £7 a day in compensation to make up for missing out on the state-provided food and lodging they would have received had they remained in jail.

Offenders released on End of Custody Licence receive an initial discharge payment of £46, followed by the subsistence allowance of £47.12 a week, up to a cap of £168.24.

If all those eligible received the full allowance, the taxpayer would by now have paid out £369,455 in compensation to foreign prisoners who had been released early.

The disclosure, in a written Parliamentary answer from the Ministry of Justice, follows recent pledges by Gordon Brown that foreign nationals who commit crimes in Britain “will be deported” and “will pay the price”.

Nick Herbert, the shadow justice secretary, said that for every three foreign prisoners the Home Office was now removing from the UK, two more were allowed to go free and six entered the prison system.

He added: “The Government want to create the impression that they’re successfully deporting foreign national criminals, but the truth is that for every three prisoners they remove, two more are released onto the streets.

“Far from paying the price as Gordon Brown promised, foreign national offenders are being rewarded by serving less than half of their jail sentence and with taxpayers’ cash in their back pockets.”

There are now around a thousand more foreign prisoners in British jails than in 2006 when Charles Clarke was forced to resign as Home Secretary amid accusations that the Home Office had failed to deport overseas offenders.

The number of foreigners in prison currently stands at 11,168, up 11 per cent since Mr Clarke’s departure, with offenders from Vietnam and Poland accounting for more than half of the increase. There are 460 Vietnamese in UK jails along with 452 Poles.

Such is the scale of offending by foreigners that there are now three jails reserved exclusively for prisoners from overseas: Canterbury in Kent, Bullwood Hall in Essex and Morton Hall in Lincoln. The equivalent of one more prison is taken up by offenders who have served their sentence and are awaiting deportation, at an average annual cost of £40,000 each – a total of £22 million.

It is possible to deport an offender only if an agreement exists with their country of origin to take them.

The Tories say that Government pledges to sign agreements with Jamaica, China and Nigeria have yet to be fulfilled.

David Hanson, the Justice Minister, said that the early release scheme would end as soon as work was completed to expand the number of prison places.

He added: “All prisoners are provided with basic subsistence to enable them to pay for accommodation, food and essentials following release.”

Meanwhile, separately the Home Office announced that a record number of foreign prisoners had been deported in the last 12 months.

The UK Border Agency sent 5,000 foreign offenders back to their country of origin, exceeding last year’s total of 4,200.

They included 50 killers and attempted killers, more than 200 sex offenders and more than 1,500 convicted of drug offenses.

Phil Woolas, the Immigration Minister, said: “Britain will not tolerate those that come here and break our rules.”

(YEAH, LIKE ANYONE BUYS INTO THAT. BAD GUYS DON’T)

Saudi court rejects plea to annul 8-year-old girl’s marriage to 58-year-old man .

So if I understand things, this guy is gonna wait 10 years?  And even so, if he really does, the girl has had her future decided already.
Jeesh ... what a system.  And the west has to make nice and say nothing at the govt. level.  All that oil ...

For all the faults we can name, we are all still pretty damn lucky to have been born in the west.  Yeah, even France.  (Drew just fell down)
I can’t get my head around this kind of thing.  But, not my worry I suppose.  Not my culture or country.  Feel sorry for the women over there, even though many of them claim there isn’t anything to be sorry for.

A Saudi court has rejected a plea to divorce an eight-year-old girl married off by her father to a man who is 58, saying the case should wait until the girl reaches puberty.

Last Updated: 5:01PM GMT 21 Dec 2008

The divorce plea was filed in August by the girl’s divorced mother with a court at Unayzah, 220 kilometres (135 miles) north of Riyadh just after the marriage contract was signed by the father and the groom.

“She doesn’t know yet that she has been married,” the lawyer said then of the girl who was about to begin her fourth year at primary school.

Relatives who did not wish to be named told AFP that the marriage had not yet been consummated, and that the girl continued to live with her mother. They said that the father had set a verbal condition by which the marriage is not consummated for another 10 years, when the girl turns 18.

The father had agreed to marry off his daughter for an advance dowry of 30,000 riyals ($8,000), as he was apparently facing financial problems, they said.

The father was in court and he remained adamant in favour of the marriage, they added.

The mother’s said he was going to appeal the verdict at the court of cassation, the supreme court in the ultraconservative kingdom which applies Islamic Sharia law in its courts.

Arranged marriages involving pre-adolescents are occasionally reported in the Arabian Peninsula, including in Saudi Arabia where the strict conservative Wahhabi version of Sunni Islam holds sway and polygamy is common.

In Yemen in April, another girl aged eight was granted a divorce after her unemployed father forced her to marry a man of 28.
