Not free to blog

Sorry I can’t spend hours in front of the PC. Wife has another extended weekend, so we’re going and doing. Everything!  And then more!!

Phooey, another stupid little bird brained himself on the side of the house. This one didn’t make it.

Al Qaeda goes on a killing rampage at a mall in Kenya. Kenya has a mall???

Jizzlam suicide bombers kill 75+ in Christian church in Pakistan. Cocksuckers. And the west STILL won’t admit this is religious war. It doesn’t matter if it isn’t that way to us, it’s that way to them, and that’s why they are fighting. Because that’s what their “religion” teaches them: Take over the world, convert everyone to your flavor of this twisted faith, and kill everyone who doesn’t want to take part. It’s as simple as that, yet the West can not and will not see this or act accordingly.

mojo raisin

turn the volume up to about 11

Everybody’s dancing down at the local armory
With a basement full of dynamite and live artillery
Temperature keeps rising, everybody getting high
Come the rocking stroke of midnight, the whole place is gonna fly

(this has NOTHING to do with the tune pasted in above. But ho lee shit, it’s a rocker!)

backfield in motion

boogie woogie weekend

If this can’t get your mojo working, you just might be dead.

Ok, I changed stuff around. While ordinarily I love Diana Krall, and she does a decent version below the fold here, it’s just not as rip snortin’ as it ought to be. This one is.

Sometimes the Blues needs to do more than sing and swing. Sometimes it needs to holla and strut. That in-your-face, dollar-beer-night, sweaty summertime honky-tonk, playing out on the back patio at 1am sound.

Cowadunga Dudes!

We want to put some perennials in along the side of the condo here. One area gets pretty much full sun, so we got a big bag of mixed tulip bulbs to plant there. And I bought some kind of T handled digger gizmo with a foot bar and gator jaws that’s supposed to dig a nice round tapered hole for bulb planting. “Just step on it and twist” it says on the tag.

I guess they didn’t figure on our “soil”, which after 30 years of downhill runoff is not much more than gravel held together with mud and bit of root. So the $25 tool was worthless; It dug one hole then broke. Lifetime warranty, so it’s going back to Home Depot tomorrow.

So I figured maybe I should just did a bed, and get some top quality top soil to mix in with our dirt. So I picked up 2 50lb bags of garden soil, got it home, and found ... sniff, sniff?? What the??? Oh Gawd! ... they were bags of soil well mixed with cow manure. Sharp and spicy!

Anyway, I dug the bed about 10” deep. Threw away the bigger rocks in our dirt, mixed the two soil, put in some base soil, watered it down. We laid the tulip bulbs in, several alternating rows about 5 feet long. Then mixed shovelfuls of soil on top. More water. Patted things down. Hey look at us, gardening!

We’ll get some mulch to lay down on it Monday. With any luck the aroma of cow poo will go away before Spring.

We still have a full bag of the stuff in the garage. Guess I’d better find some more bulbs.

Yup, them was the days. 16 month project that started in Red Status and never left. World’s heaviest data model. Overhead? Ha, even the metadata was more than the client server network could pass around efficiently. 70-80 hour weeks for months at a time. Required. Paid overtime? What’s that??

And yeah, we had hourly status meetings when things got really bad. Because when you’re really behind the 8 ball, and need every minute to try and meet some idiotic schedule, nothing makes you try harder than walking 10 minutes across a giant building to go to a 15 minute meeting every hour to report on your completion status.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

And testing? NOBODY ever budgets enough time or money for decent testing. As one uppity keyboard savant put it, “You don’t need to test my code; I wrote it.” And the whole damn company shared that attitude!

Oh, I don’t miss those days at all.

Did This Happen????

House Defunds ObamaCare

The House voted Friday to keep the government open through mid-December but only if Congress strips funding from ObamaCare.

The vote was 230 to 189, and largely expected.

Current funding for the government is set to expire at the end of the month, and lawmakers must approve the stopgap bill in order to keep Washington open.

The GOP measure would fund the government through Dec. 15, at current funding levels.

“Today, the constitutional conservatives in the House are keeping their word to our constituents and our nation to stand true to our principles, to protect them from the most unpopular law ever passed in the history of the country- ObamaCare- that intrudes on their privacy and our most sacred right as Americans to be left alone,” Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas, said on the House floor.

Or Is It Just More Posturing BS??

The vote sets the stage for a showdown next week in the Democratic-led Senate. Realistically, the chance of the measure surviving a Senate vote is slim to none. One Senate Democrat has already announced the bill dead on arrival and called Friday’s vote a “waste of time.”

“Republicans are simply postponing for a few days the inevitable choice they must face: pass a clean bill to fund the government, or force a shutdown,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said in a statement following the vote. “I have said it before but it seems to bear repeating: the Senate will not pass any bill that defunds or delays Obamacare.”

The Senate is in recess until Tuesday.

At a noon rally on Capitol Hill, House Speaker John Boehner said the House vote speaks to the popularity of the Affordable Care Act – known as ObamaCare.

“You’ve got businesses all over the country who are not hiring because of the impact of this law,” he said. “You’ve got other businesses who are reducing the hours for their employees because of this law. And so, our message to the United States Senate is real simple: the American people don’t want to the government shut down and they don’t want ObamaCare.”

So what does this really mean? Obamacare isn’t actually dead. It isn’t repealed. It’s just defunded. For now? Until Tuesday? Or until next year? Or what?

WTF? WTFF?

our post office is still closed. monies are needed more by other countries.

The issue of muslim women and the veil is almost always in the news but sometime there’s a bit of a wrinkle in a story that catches my eye.
Not that it’s rocket science and you’d spot it also.

There are it is reported, 17 hospitals here that have a full face ban in place.  Actually, very few wear a full face veil anyway. But a lot of ppl argue and I’d agree, that patients have a right to see the face of those providing care in a hospital.
Anyway ... the whole issue of face covers is absurd.  Why those in power long ago did not clearly state that there are some things NOT compatible with a western country I’ll never know.  But here’s the thing that struck me as odd.

Hospitals are being asked “ to consider “ banning the niqab.  Notice that wording.  Asked to consider?  So then it opens things up for an option to say no?  Consider a ban?  Why the hell not an outright ban and screw anyone who objects.  Let em go and find a job in sandland.

and also in news briefs I have heard and again this comes as no surprise to you.

Syria.

Rebel armies are turning their guns on each other.  They are a rag-tag army made up of different religious and political beliefs - a differing vision if you will, of what each wants a future Syria to be.
And Mr. O. and his Lurch like sec. want to be involved in that?  Putin of course has managed to stall the war games Paris and London and Washington are so eager for. Ha. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

#

Some African high mucky-muck whose name I now don’t recall and it doesn’t matter. Well, it’s been found that this police official has been selling aid material for Somalia.  I guess he has (or had) a private army of sorts, and aid for Somalia and others were simply stolen by this guy and sold to others who in turn sold things to people meant to be receiving help at no charge.  Not anything new of course.  Been going on for years everywhere in that part of the world.

#

Some Brits are happy to own bragging rights to aid btw.  Yeah.  Some report claims that Britain has contributed more real cash in foreign aid
than any other country.  SUCKERS!

Meanwhile .... our local post office, closed these past five years or so because London says there isn’t any money, remains closed as of this writing.
I do not expect it to reopen in my lifetime.  And this is a village that in the past, had a post office for well over a hundred years.
Of course, we’re talking in the days before mass immigration, and grand give- aways to other countries.

I wish people were vetted for language skills before being hired. Just a small thing I know. Went into a pastry shop for some evil unhealthy comfort treats. Real whipped cream filled donut like pastry chocolate covered.  Actually looks like a bagel but isn’t. Anyway, I asked the woman behind the counter if she could put it in a box for me. Actually, there were two pastries.  But she thought I was saying ‘bag’. Her English was not the best.  No big deal but let me tell you, it has been a very difficult past two or three days.  Worked myself to exhaustion even with help, digging out bushes and cutting down dead trees etc. Just too damn tired to boot the puter.  Wife still ill and has taken to adding Gin to her pain killers to cope with the back pain.  She isn’t tipsy or anything like that, and it isn’t like every hour, but often enough to be a mite concerned.

Some work desperately required on the outside upstairs windows.  The wood is rotted and needs treatment and painting etc.  Nothing I can handle.
So it happens that a couple of painters were working on the house next door.  I told the guy we had work needed doing, no problem he says.  As soon as we finish this project, I’ll come by and take a look at what you have. They have been working all week on the house next door.
Yeah right.  They do this a lot over here.  You read about ppl with no jobs all the time, but try and hire someone.
They just do not generally show up.

And finally ...

One of my dearest friends here has been told he has Prostate Cancer.  More tests are scheduled for him next week to see if its traveled anywhere.
He’s a year younger than I am.  Give one pause.

four years of theft …. one year in jail ….  great system at work

UPDATE:

Last week I posted this story.

Judge hears face veil trial pleas

A devout Muslim woman should be allowed to stand trial without taking off her full-face veil, because forcing her to do so would breach her human rights, a court has heard.
Making the woman remove her niqab would also be counter to the “tolerant” approach to Islamic dress in the UK, her barrister argued.
The defendant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was allowed to enter a not guilty plea to a charge of intimidation with her face covered after a judge backed down from previously saying she must show her face in court to be identified properly. She had argued that it was against her religious beliefs to show her face to men.
Judge Peter Murphy later heard legal argument about whether the woman should be allowed to stand trial without wearing her veil and is due to hand down written directions on Monday.
-30-

Ok so you also will remember perhaps that the judge backed down on part of the issue by allowing the skank to be in court covered but she could not take the stand in front of the jury with her face covered. Although on reflection that could be considered a mercy.
As you’ll imagine, all the goats on the left and those who were offended on her behalf crawled out from under their collective rocks to protest at this latest unfair example of islamophobia and racism.

Last night on the radio I heard a debate on the topic that featured a young muzzie woman who I believe is a student at the college that wanted enforce an anti veil policy, but in the end backed down as they were faced with “student protests” at such an unfair policy. Btw, the college already bans hoods and other face coverings as well as hats worn to obscure the face. Apparently however, the niqab is off limits to authorities.

So then, during this radio tit for tat debate on the subject the young woman said, and I swear this is what I clearly heard her say,

“The problem is that people here are NOT accommodating enough toward muslims.”

Well readers of bmews, here’s an up date and a photo of the lying blubber faced bitch.  Look how easy it almost was to con the system cos the system just begs to be screwed.  But not this time. Because,
the woman in question was found to be a fraud and a thief.  Yeah, thief as in she stole £21,000 ( in USA money that comes to $33,641.85 ) from a college where she worked.

She only got 12 months but hey, at least the bitch was exposed.
Police say that there is a rising trend for muslim women to wear the veil outside court to avoid scrutiny.

The theft went on for four years, and funded trips to Florida and home improvements and a divorce.
She finally pled guilty to 19 counts of fraud, at the college where she was a purchasing officer.

Here’s her police mug shot.

This One Doesn’t Count

Not A Mass Shooting

Just Another Night In Da Hood

13 People Shot, Including 3-Year-Old Boy, In Back Of The Yards

Thirteen people, including a 3-year-old boy, were shot at a park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood overnight, when two gunmen opened fire on a crowded basketball court.

CBS 2’s Courtney Gousman reports the victims were taken to six different hospitals after they were shot around 10:15 p.m. at Cornell Square Park, near 51st and Wood streets. Dozens of police officers swarmed the park after the shooting.

Three-year-old Deonta Howard Jr. was with his mother at the park when a bullet struck him in the face. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, but was expected to survive.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel was in Washington, D.C., on Friday, but cancelled his schedule there and was flying back to Chicago. His office issued a written statement from the mayor:

“Senseless and brazen acts of violence have no place in Chicago and betray all that we stand for. The perpetrators of this crime will be brought to justice and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I encourage everyone in the community to step forward with any information and everyone in Chicago to continue their individual efforts to build stronger communities where violence has no place.”

As of early Friday, no one was in custody for the shooting, but police were hoping security cameras at the park would lead them to the gunmen.

Just another night in Chicago’s hood. A whole bunch of folks - adults, teens and small children - out playing ball after 10pm on a school night. Two homies who can’t shoot for shit show up and just start poppin’.

Meanwhile, other folks are wondering about Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis’ possible connection to jihad, and how this not-well-paid guy managed to get to Thailand for vacations. Hmmm.

Bird, Brained

Thwock Robin

So I’m sweeping off the patio late this afternoon, and suddenly I hear this loud thwock! plop! sound. I look around, and there’s this robin lying there on the concrete next to the grill. Twitch twitch with the wing, then he goes still. The first thought that pops into my head - who’s the bird brain here? - is “Who would throw a robin at my house?” - then I realize the little dope probably flew into the siding. Birds used to hit my mother’s back window so often that she had to resort to hanging up a big picture of a hawk in the window. But they did leave some pretty dust pictures!

Twenty minutes later the dead bird has come back to life, and he’s just sitting there panting. Half an hour later he’s fluttering around a bit, and soon after that he was gone. Man, what a headache he’s gotta have!

Bird brain. Red Robin ... dumb!

Dead Or Crippled, As Promised

Obama’a Uncontrolled EPA Moves To Kill Coal Industry

Because America has a coal supply good for more than 500 years ... so let’s not use it ever again. That’s the way to attain energy independence. Along with no new nukes, no fracking, no Keystone XL, and who really knows how many dead or inactive wind turbines. Is it El Residente’s goal to dig us so deep into the Pit we’ll never get out? Sure seems that way sometimes. Often. Every damn day as a a matter of fact.

New clean-energy rules pushed through by the Obama administration are raising concerns that they could cripple the coal industry—and may require power plants to use technology so risky that even the president’s former top energy official once warned it could “kill.”

The EPA, by Friday, is expected to release a new proposal to set the first-ever carbon dioxide limits for new power plants.

To meet those emissions caps, power plants would likely have to use what is known as “carbon-capture technology,” which involves burying the carbon underground.

The technology, which is still under development, remains expensive and not commercially available. But there are lingering safety risks.

Their idea is to capture all the CO2 and store it in underground tanks. Because, OMG, don’t give it to any plants or anything, that could benefit from it and absorb it. Nope, just store it up and create a deadly hazard, just waiting for a bit of mismanagement, rot, or lax attention.

Not the sharpest pencils in the bin, even at $35 a pop.

But we need to act now!!. To fight the naturally occurring Climate Change, which has been going on, probably cyclically, for billions of years!

One somewhat safer idea is to lock up the carbon chemically, but no real details are given in this article. Hey, why not make calcium carbonate? Is that hard to do? Take some of the excess government purchased milk, power the process with government purchased solar energy, or heat things up with government purchased ethanol, and bind up thousands, millions, of tons of carbon dioxide. And then ... since this is the stuff that clam shells are made of ... start ramping up clam, oyster, and mussel beds like nobody’s business. And restock the bays and estuaries everywhere. Not only would we get free Raw Bar for everyone, all those bivalves would actually clean up the water. Win win for everybody! Woo hoo!!*

[ * This probably won’t actually work. You need an extraordinarily large source of pure calcium to make up calcium carbonate, CaCO3. Which is otherwise known as limestone, chalk, or clam shells. And it’s pointless to derive the calcium from other sources where it’s already bound up with carbon dioxide.

3 Ca + 6 CO2 + energy ---> 3 Ca + 6 C + 12 O ---> 3 CaCO3 + 3 C + 3 O ---> 3CaCO3 + 3CO. Oops. CO is carbon monoxide, a poison gas.
6 Ca + 6CO2 + 3 O2 + energy ---> 6 CaCO3. This is better, but you can see that it needs extra oxygen. In other words, making calcium carbonate from calcium and carbon dioxide is a rolling process that depletes oxygen from the air. I think. I haven’t balanced a chemical equation since high school.

And, once you make all the stuff, how you feed it to the clams is beyond me. ]
