Debate Killer

image

You can buy a two shot, .38 Special, second hand derringer for about $75. They only cost about $150 when brand new. You can spend more, but for a gun that will be fired only twice, why bother?

They aren’t automatics, semi-automatics, revolvers, or even (theoretically) repeaters. They are palm sized pistols that have two stubby barrels. The pistols hold 2 rounds, and each one gets it’s own little barrel.

You could put about a dozen of them in the pockets of a large man’s field coat. With pockets on both sides you could have 25 little pistols hidden on you, and nobody would really notice. Except for the clanking I guess.

Thus you’d have nearly 50 shots that you could shoot off in a very short time; what’s an extra second digging another derringer out of you pocket as you shoot 2 shots with a derringer in your other hand? Especially if you’re the only one around with a firearm in one of those extra-safe Gun Free Zones that are supposed to protect us all.

And at shooting distances from arm’s length to across the room, these pistols are sufficiently accurate and sufficiently lethal.

Bang bang. Drop, while pulling out another with your other hand. Bang bang. Drop, while pulling out another with your other hand. Bang bang. Drop, while pulling ... you get my point. Easy enough to get off at least 30 lethal shots in a minute, a minute and a half, at classroom distances. Easy.

In other words, the only way to use gun control to actually slow down mass killers when they go on their killing spree is to confiscate every last firearm in the entire country and replace them with single shot weapons that are far too large to conceal. You know, like the muskets that were around in 1776. Six feet long, and needing about 45 seconds to reload, even if you’re an expert.

Nothing else is going to do it. Seriously. Every single kind of repeating firearm - in other words, damn near every gun made since 1875 - would have to be turned in or confiscated. Hundreds and hundreds of millions of them. Then, assuming you have the proper permits, assuming you can pass the ever more difficult mental test, assuming you haven’t exceeded your monthly or annual purchase allotment, and assuming you can provide the authorities a sufficiently good reason why you NEED to purchase a gun or purchase a second or third one, then you can have some sort of break-action single shot stovepipe.

Ammunition purchase and possession would of course be by permit, once you’ve shown a previously issued hunting license or membership card for a shooting club, plus an issued owner’s permit for a firearm of that caliber; records of each round fired will have to be kept and uploaded to the government, and you will not be allowed to have more than 3 rounds in your home at any one time regardless of how many firearms you own. And our political masters will call this “reasonable and proper limits” on our rights, and our children will never ever question that statement. Never. Ever.

Otherwise, having a debate on gun control is an utter waste of time. Go all the way, or don’t bother to go at all.

I am not kidding. This is what it would take to actually PREVENT the next lunatic from going on a shooting spree at a school or day-care center. The ONLY thing. Every last house in the nation searched, every last firearm confiscated or turned in. Every round of ammunition.

And let’s get moving on those stab-proof knives in this country too. And bows and arrows as well. Crossbows. And slingshots. And hammers that weigh more than 4 ounces. And all nails more than 2” long. And nail files. And pointy scissors. And pencils and pens that are too pointy. And rolling pins. And swords of course. And any cane or walking stick made of anything more sturdy than closed cell foam. And hockey sticks. Baseball bats not made of straw or hollow thin yellow plastic. All of them, potential instruments of mass murder. Take them away.

After all, it’s for the children. So act now. After all, the MSM, even Fox News, is now reporting that “the majority of Americans are in favor of more gun control”.

What a absolute load of shit.

And Around We Go Again

Peiper just posted a bit on the - guaranteed - lunacy in the UK over gun rights here in the USA. They simply don’t get it. Worse, their leftists are even more delusional than ours are, and that’s saying a lot.

So, there you have it. Gun control does not work; worldwide it’s been shown an infinite number of times that people who want to kill or injure others will use the weapons at hand.

So, there you have it. Another example of how an armed citizenry - carrying concealed firearms - stopped another crazy person bent on mass murder. More proof antithetical to gun control: an armed populace limits or reduced violent crime.

So, there you have it. Nut cases allowed to run around loose in public are dangerous. Doesn’t matter where they are. When they snap, other people are going to get hurt. Or killed. So maybe the crazies shouldn’t be out in the first place?

The same day as the tragic Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting, a Chinese man stabbed 22 children in China’s central province of Henan. The attack yielded almost no news coverage in the United States.

Although no fatalities have been reported in this particular Chinese stabbing incident, China — which has strict gun control laws — has had a spate of school stabbing massacres in recent years with many fatalities. In September, an ax-wielding Chinese man killed three school children and wounded another 13. And NBC News reported December 15 that “there was a particular string of knife attacks against schoolchildren across the country in early 2010 that killed nearly 20 and wounded more than 50.”

Also largely unreported by the national press was a would-be massacre stopped in a Portland-area mall by an armed citizen with a concealed-carry permit. 22-year-old Nick Meli was carrying his Glock 22 at the Clackamas Town Center, a mall in a town outside of Portland, Oregon, on the same day as the Newtown massacre. The contrast between the unarmed victims in Newtown and the Clackamas shooting was stark. Meli, seeing suspect 22-year-old Jacob Tyler Roberts shooting random shoppers with his AR-15, pulled his gun as Roberts’ gun jammed. Meli never even had to fire his gun to stop the shooting spree, which ended in the death of two innocents and the shooter himself. Meli held his fire because of the risk of shooting an innocent person. “As I was going down to pull, I saw someone in the back of the Charlotte move, and I knew if I fired and missed, I could hit them,” Meli told the local television station. “I know that after he saw me, I think that the last shot he fired was the one he used on himself.”

So of course, the predictable bullshit from our own totalitarian communists is in high gear. In the latest, corruptocrat Rahn Emanuel, Black Jesus’s appointed Mayor of Chicago, a city with the 2nd or 3rd most draconian gun laws in the nation (and home to rampant “gun crime” killings among it’s Thug Nation underclass), is calling for a renewed and improved Assault Weapons Ban. Because the last Assault Weapons Ban didn’t do a damn thing to limit crime, and even had it been renewed it would not have applied to the rifle Lanza used in Newton. That one was not covered under the old AWB. Not that that fact has the slightest impact on this latest iteration.

I’m so sick of this shit.

PS - based on the design of the old Colt Lightning rifle and the Remington 760 rifle, both pump action repeaters, I have designed a very short stroke, carbine length, mid-power repeating rifle. Such a thing will be exempt from any kind of Assault Weapons Ban that could ever be. For magazine capacity, it uses a rolling star shaped multi-magazine: 6 magazines are attached to a roller on a frame at their base end, and the other end of the frame is mounted in the rifle. Thus any given magazine can be limited to 10 rounds, or 7, or 5, or whatever, but the shooter will be able to rotate a fresh magazine into battery with just one simple click to the right, just like advancing the cylinder on a revolver, thus being able to load and fire 30 to 60 rounds in less than half a minute, but complying with any limited capacity magazine law. I’m no gun designer, but it really is that easy. A “harmonica mount”, with several magazines attached side by side that slid sideways through the receiver would work just as well if not better.

PPS - I own a Winchester Model 94 Legacy rifle. It’s a “cowboy gun”, a lever action repeater, with a 14 round tubular magazine. With a bit of practice you can fire off all the shots in about 5 seconds. A “Henry” magazine tube modification and a couple plastic tubes full of cartridges would allow it to be reloaded in about 2 seconds.  So you can see that “automatic” and “semi-automatic” bans aren’t going to do a thing, nor is banning “high capacity” magazines, whether detachable or not. It’s all bullshit. Simply claw devices already exist, called speed loaders, that let you reload a double action revolver in well under half a second. They’ve been around for decades now.

everyone wants ta get into the act (with apologies to the great Durante)

Not surprisingly, most of the Brit press (that I’ve read so far) in editorials like the one below, urge America to do something about gun control.
As if it’s any of their freeking business.

I’ve also read comments about how uncivilized we (Americans) are, totally ignoring the heinous crimes that happen here on a daily basis.
Look up Baby P in Google if you want a good example of uncivilized. How soon they forget.

Well anyway, I think BMEWS should see this.

image

This was the lead editorial today in The Telegraph.  And it’s pretty mild stuff considering what issues from the left.

America’s gun culture will outlast this tragedy

The murder of 20 schoolchildren by Adam Lanza is a horrific reminder of the way in which the easy access to firearms in America can maximise one man’s potential for evil. Since 1982, there have been at least 62 mass shootings, and in the vast majority of cases the weapons were acquired legally. After the tragic events in Newtown, there is a growing sense that something has to change.

Sadly, there is a gulf between what is morally right and what is politically feasible. In the past, President Obama has stated that semi-automatic weapons of the variety used at Newtown belong in the hands of soldiers rather than citizens, and also that it should be much harder for people with a history of mental illness to own guns: many multiple person shootings are carried out by people suffering from paranoia or depression, who often show signs of illness prior to their actions.

Yet despite his promise of “meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this”, the president’s record of inaction reflects how reluctant American politicians are to act on such a contentious issue. Gun ownership is constitutionally protected, and a powerful lobby exists to protect that right. During the 2012 election cycle, the wealthy National Rifle Association outspent pro-gun-control groups by 10 to one. Given that President Obama is locked in tortuous budget negotiations with Congressional Republicans, it would be an act of almost reckless courage to spend what little political capital he has testing the militancy of gun owners.

Crucially, opposition to gun control is not limited to ideological lobbies. For many ordinary Americans, gun ownership is synonymous with self-reliance, and they inhabit a culture in which hunting has both mythic and popular appeal. Any effort to curtail significantly access to guns would not only face legal objections but also risk an ugly political war between town and country. Furthermore, the extraordinary saturation of American homes with weapons would limit the impact of any effort to reduce over-the-counter sales. Even if Adam Lanza had been banned from owning any guns on the grounds of mental health (some investigators have described him as suffering from a personality disorder) he could just as easily have taken them from his mother’s private collection. Indeed, a number of her weapons are reported to have been used in the massacre.

In short, whatever steps are taken in the wake of this tragedy, guns will remain a central part of America’s culture, as will gun violence. That may appear baffling to European eyes, but it is not something that can or will be quickly or easily changed.

READ WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY ON THE SUBJECT.

amusing but a waste of time so skip, if time this morning is important

Be sure and explain this to me if you understand it all. Yikes!  This is the most convoluted article I’ve seen in a long time.  Or maybe it’s just me.  Too many pills at bedtime etc.

Naturally race just has to come into the picture.

First, some group claims it’s race that is keeping members of their group out, then they say it’s all crap anyway.  If that’s the case, why should they care?

Well anyway, have fun with this one and please note, it is not listed under eye candy.

I think I need to add a new category to our list. Call it total waste of time. Something like. I think this is mildly amusing but I suppose there are folks who take the whole thing very seriously.

‘White as snow’ Miss France beauty queen gets caught in racism row and catfight with previous winner

· Ethnic minority group bemoans lack of black and Arab contestants
· Miss France Company MD refuses to allow bitter rival to interview winner
· Newly-crowned queen Marine Lorphelin reveals her plastic surgery past

By Alex Gore

A newly crowned Miss France beauty queen has become embroiled in accusations of racism and a catfight between previous winners just days into her reign.
The Representative Council of Black Associations (CRAN) denounced medical student Marine Lorphelin, 19, for being ‘as white as snow’ and criticised the lack of black and Arab contestants.
The organisation labelled the contest outdated and an insult to the country’s ethnic diversity - but the attack has prompted an angry backlash from Miss Lorphelin’s supporters.

image

CRAN president Louis-Georges Tin said in a statement jointly issued by Miss Black France creator, Fred Royer: ‘The failure to represent the contemporary French population in an event such as this is obviously serious.

‘It amounts to denying the very existence of French people of African origin.’

But Didier Maisto, editor of Lyon Capitale, a website based in Miss Lorphelin’s home region of Burgundy, told The Times: ‘These types of comments, which are violently anti-Republican, seek to set French people against each other.’

The victory was followed days later by a mixed-race contestant, Auline Grac, 21, winning the dissident competition Miss Prestige.
Miss Lorphelin was due to appear on the Faut Pas Rater Ca talk show on public television station France 4 to be interviewed by Elodie Gossuin - who won Miss France last year and is a supporter of Miss Prestige.

But Miss France Company managing director, Sylvie Tellier, who won the pageant in 2002, refused to allow Miss Lorphelin to be interviewed by her bitter rival.
Television executives gave in and sent Miss Gossuin home despite accusations they had failed to defend editorial independence.

Miss Lorpehlin was instead interviewed by presenter Isabelle Morini-Bosc, who asked her guest about a small scar on her nose.

She replied: ‘You noticed it. It was plastic surgery. I had a little crust on my nose when I was adolescent and it wasn’t very beautiful.’

Miss Lorphelin saw off competition from 32 other finalist - eight from ethnic minorities and six of those from France’s Pacific and Caribbean territories - to win the crown last weekend.

The CRAN statement added: ‘In the antiquated world of Miss France, blacks apparently can only come from overseas departments.

Fully Expected Unexpected DC BS

Don’t you love how this kind of garbage always hits the news after Friday night rush hour? It’s like they save up all the crap to the end of the week, and then try to sneak it through when nobody is looking.

* Obama is going to make John Fucking Kerry the next Secretary of State. Holy shit. If this isn’t true, then it’s the biggest obfuscational whopper to come along in ages, which means some seriously bad shit is going on behind the smoke and mirrors caused by such a rumor.

* Shrillary gets a pass on Benghazi. No questions to be asked, no responsibility taken, no repercussions. Gee, who’da thunk that?  Now she doesn’t even have to testify before Congress, due to her “concussion”. What, did she slip, fall, and bump her head while dodging more sniper fire????

* Boner turns pussy, sells out GOP, caves to Obama, and suggests tax hike for those who actually have some spare money. God how I despise that spinelss turd.

* Dianne Feinsten (CA - D[deranged]) lets no crisis go to waste, pushes for new AWB, gun debate, while online minions call directly for the 2nd Amendment to be revoked. Turban Durbin and the usual foaming at the mouth gang of fascists join in the hue and cry. Funny, nobody has the fucking balls to call for LUNATIC CONTROL, which would have kept every last school shooting from 1966 up to now from happening. Lock up the crazy kids, and don’t give them guns.

Ack, crivens, I can’t take this BS any longer. Hellena Handbasket, we’re all coming to visit you.

School Shooting: Oh Wait, It Was Assault Weapons After All?

Pretty strange how the story changes, often reversing itself entirely. All day yesterday we heard how the Sandy Hook shooter carried two pistols, a 9mm Glock and a 9mm Sig, and gunned down all his victims with them. All the while he had a Bushmaster AR-15, but left it in the car the whole time: it was never used.

UPDATE: Source of my confusion:

The suspect, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, committed suicide following the shootings. Two semi-automatic handguns were found near his body. Authorities said they had found a .223-caliber assault rifle in a car, but had not previously disclosed a second rifle Carver said was used in the shootings

Right. So while the media was going on and on and on and on about a Glock and a Sig handgun, how many cartridges they can carry, how fast the bullets travel, whether the shooter was wearing a bullet-proof or just a tactical vest, yadda yadda yadda, and how a .223 rifle was found in the car ... the police and the FBI, who were feeding the media whatever hard information they had, conveniently neglected to honestly identify the weapon(s) obviously used. Which is a lie of omission. Although the word did sort of leak out; several news vectors reported FOUR weapons at the scene, while most others reported THREE.

Sadly, now another “truth” has been revealed, that a quarter of the people killed, women and children included, had been shot 3 to 11 times. 11 times? Total psychotic. When this investigation is done, and all of it made public (good luck with that, obviously!), there had better be some major evidence that shows why this raving madman wasn’t locked up in a rubber room years ago.

This isn’t rocket science folks. All three weapons toss the empty brass cartridge case out when cycling in the next round. A 9mm is a pistol round, and it’s case is a squat little cylinder about half an inch tall by half an inch wide. The Bushmaster is a rifle, and while the .223 cartridge it uses is quite small for a rifle round, it’s still an inch and three quarters long, yet barely a third of an inch across. So it’s thinner than a 9mm case, but 3 times longer. It would be UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE for any officer on the scene to mistake one case for the other, and with the number of shots fired and people killed in just two small areas, there had to be empty cases all over the place. Everywhere. Same thing goes for the shooter: once he’s shot himself dead, he can’t go and put his rifle back in the car. It’s right next to his body, and has been all the time. Or else it was never there to begin with.

So WTF is going on here? Which end gave us the bullshit spin - police/FBI/news accounts the day it happened, or is this complete crap from the coroner, who either has a political motive or is being used to push one?

NEWTOWN, Conn.--Dr. H. Wayne Carver, the medical examiner investigating Friday’s massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, said autopsies completed on 20 children and six adults on Saturday showed they were killed with multiple bullets fired by a rifle at close range.

“I’ve been at this for a third of a century and my sensibilities may not be those of the average man, but this probably is the worst I have seen or the worst that I know of any of my colleagues have seen,” Carver told reporters gathered at Treadwell Park, less than a mile from the school where the shooting occurred.

The veteran medical examiner told reporters that the victims had all been identified and their bodies released. In what appeared to be an uncomfortable moment for Carver, he said all of the victims he had examined had all been shot by a Bushmaster .223 caliber assault rifle, one of at least two weapons Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old suspected shooter, used to commit one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.

At very close ranges both the 9mm bullet and the .223 bullet are explosively effective. Horrifically so. You would have a damn hard time looking at a wound and determining which round caused it; the bodies are going to be nearly shredded. But the cases tell the tale, and it is far beyond inaccurate reporting to identify 2 weapons used and 1 specifically NOT used for the better part of a full day, and then do a 180 and claim the opposite.

Someone is or was lying to us. Period. This is not a simple mistake. This is an outright, deliberate lie.

PS - if all the victims were shot multiple times with a rifle, then how is the weapon “one of at least two” to have used in the commission of the crime? Or does just having the pistol on him qualify as use? Or perhaps just having the rifle out in the car, does that do it too?

jeesh, amerians are so barbaric. how uncouth can one get?

I’d say there are places in the USA where they’d give these folks a run for their money. But I would betcha not many places, not as often, fewer ppl involved and most important, I believe American courts would be lots tougher.
Anyway, seeing as this is almost a national sport in some places, maybe it’s a good thing they have gun control here.

Take a look. And we get brickbats.

Christmas carnage kicks off across Britain

Drunken yobs cause carnage in cities across the country
Calls to 999 skyrocket as drinkers fight and fall over
Army-style triage units in street to deal with chaos
£500,000 emergency centre just for drunks set up in London

By Daily Mail Reporter

A young woman dressed in next to nothing lies prostrate on a soaking pavement, one of thousands of binge-drinking revellers who caused chaos on Britain’s streets on ‘Black Friday’.

With just nine days until Christmas, hordes of party-goers ignored the driving rain and freezing conditions to pack out pubs, bars and clubs on festive parties, and many were so drunk they could barely stand.

In scenes of carnage repeated across the country, women stumbled in the middle of the road and yobs fought in and outside bars, while some thugs hurled rubbish at each other.

remarks by president on ct. and other mixed bag of subjects

Back, in a manner of speaking.
Nasty reaction to medication doc gave me.

Heard news of killings at Ct. school on the radio late last night. Shocker.  Just little kids. The killer had to be severely twisted mentally.  How could his late mom have not seen something wrong there?

I won’t dwell on that subject except for one other related thing.

I heard Obama’s remarks as they were also broadcast here.  He sounded quite emotional and there was a bit of dead airtime during his remark.
Very un-presidential I thought.  I’m willing to believe he was genuine as after all, he is a father no matter what else we believe about the guy.
But choking up and sounding as if he’d cry at any moment was toe curling and cringe-worthy.  Good grief. Like him or not he carries a title as head of state and is seen as a leader of the free world.  Well, a leader of some kind anyway.  You do not get all teary-eyed before going public.  You compose yourself and go on only when ready.  Or am I mistaken on that?

I liked Richard Nixon btw, and know during his last days in office some of his public remarks were emotional sounding.

Speaking of Nixon.  I heard an interesting program last night and it was based on the interviews he’d done with Frost.
It was sort of a re-cap of life and career.
From beginning to end it was genuine hatchet job which made me love and admire Nixon even more than I already did. But golly sports fans, he had flaws. Oh woo. None of the rest of us have those. Sure thing. We’re all perfect and especially the media.  Right. Always fair minded. Right?

They played a tape recording which was presented as proof of how racist and bigoted he was supposed to have been. Really. When you listen to it if open minded and even if not a fan, there was no racism there. Zip.  He said Latins weren’t very good at governing, he used Italy and Spain as examples, and then said look at France. Look at their problems and they are somewhat latin.  And yes, he mentioned Africa saying they were just not up to what it takes to govern and hold a country together.  Was he wrong?  He didn’t use the ‘N’ word either.  But somehow he was presented as racist and bigoted. He said African states were childlike and always demanding something. Gimme-gimme. Or words to that effect.
BBC program had a field day with that.

With regard to shooting in Ct. It won’t surprise any of you to know the liberal minded here are all over those ignorant uncivilized and barbaric Americans and their love affair with guns.

Meanwhile back at the home ranch:

Gunman robs elderly homeowners before kidnapping wife in their own car

Man broke into couple’s home and demanded money with a gun
Woman was forced into her own car and driven around for 15 minutes
Police have urged robber to give himself up

By Harriet Cooke

The terrifying ordeal came after a man turned up at a house in Lymington, Hampshire, yesterday morning, and used a gun to demand money from the couple who live there.

The man - in his 70s - received a minor head injury during a confrontation with the suspect.

As you can see, with the very strict control they have here, and btw should you want to know, it is against the law to have and carry a weapon of that sort.
Apparently this fellow didn’t quite understand the law. Or maybe,,,, he didn’t care?

If you’ve a mind to, surf to the Daily Mail and read the comments posted by many here re. Americans and guns. I won’t go there. I don’t need any more anger and angst in my life at the moment.

On an all together different subject entirely.  Were you aware that as much as 80 percent of us, speaking of Americans, believe goreball warming is a serious threat to the USA? Must be true cos it’s in the papers.

80 per cent of Americans think global warming is serious problem for U.S.

A recent poll found 4 out of every 5 Americans said climate change will be a serious problem for the United States if nothing is done about it
That’s up from 73 per cent when the same question was asked in 2009
Even most people who say they don’t trust scientists on the environment say temperatures are rising

More than half of Americans say the U.S. government should do a great deal or quite a bit about the problem

By Associated Press Reporter

A growing majority of Americans think global warming is occurring, that it will become a serious problem and that the U.S. government should do something about it, a new Associated Press-GfK poll finds.

Even most people who say they don’t trust scientists on the environment say temperatures are rising.

The poll found 4 out of every 5 Americans said climate change will be a serious problem for the United States if nothing is done about it.

That’s up from 73 per cent when the same question was asked in 2009.

That also comes from the Sunday Mail. I just thought you might like to know what it is you are thinking.
Look for measures inspired by euro-pee-ons to influence thinking in the US.

Half A Billion Firearms

Privately Owned By Americans

Didn’t Take Part In Any Crime Today

Thank you , that is all. We now return you to your standard opportunistic hoplophobic fascist 24-7 news coverage.

Oh, and you’re damn right Americans own half a billion guns. That “65 million Americans own firearms” is an ancient meme that’s probably 25 years out of date. Guns have been selling at about 13-15 million per year for years now. And the vast number of citizens who own guns, own more than just one. One in five gun owners owns a dozen or more firearms. Maybe one in three. Heck, I don’t know anybody who only has one gun. Guns last nearly forever with just the smallest amount of care; those made 120 years ago can still work just fine and you can probably still get ammo for them. And guns are just about the only thing Americans don’t throw away, except for the rare dingdong who goes to one of those statist buy-back events. Run the numbers yourself. Half a billion is probably an huge underestimate. A billion? Two billion? Doesn’t matter: more guns only proves my point further.

20 Minute Bowling League

Neato.

New Speed Bowling Record: 15 Frames Per Minute

Hey, I didn’t even know there was an old speed bowling record, did you? LOL

If you ever feel overconfident when you go to the bowling alley, think of Chad McLean.

The Gainesville native and bowler extraordinaire owns the Guinness World Record for most strikes bowled in a minute.

In a video uploaded this week to YouTube, McLean takes down nine sets of pins in about 60 seconds. McLean managed 15 attempts in the minute.

Pretty awesome if you ask me.

But let’s make it more awesome. Leave it to Drew to figure out how to crank it up several more notches.

15 throws is a game and a half [assuming a perfect game], and bowling league is typically 3 games. So in theory this guy - and maybe you too, with practice - could do a whole night’s bowling league in 2 minutes. Granted, you probably won’t throw 9 strikes from 15 throws like Chad did, so we’ll more than double the time. Call it 5 minutes. And with 4 people on a team, that could means 20 minutes for your whole team to bowl, but the next bowler really doesn’t need to wait until the previous guy is completely done. Let him get about 2 lanes ahead for courtesy, and to allow the pin setter to bring up new pins. So a team of 4 could get the whole job done ... in about 10 minutes. Your opponents come along behind you, and the pin setting machines need a little bit of time to reset each frame ... so let’s call it 20 minutes. Beats the heck out of the typical 2 and half to 3 hours that league usually runs. And you could schedule it tight, too. Team 1 and 2 start off at 7, teams 3 and 4 start off at 7:05, teams 5 and 6 at 7:10, etc. And there’d be a steady procession of people bowling across the whole alley, going from lane 1 to lane 2 to lane 3 and so on until they’re done.

An alley could probably run 10 leagues a night, instead of the more typical 4. All those folks who say “Oh, I don’t have time for bowling league” would lose that as an excuse. The alleys would rake in the money, but beer sales would be down considerably. No time for a brewski!

On the other hand, each bowler would need to own about 30 bowling balls and bring them all on league night. Which would not only be mighty expensive, but awfully heavy.

Choomster In Chief, Stoned Immaculate

Obama: “I would be considered a Moderate Republican in the 80s”

Interception!! Damn, this guy gets the most killer dope. Teh Won, Fearless Reader, apparently stoned out of his gourd again:

(CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama says he would be “considered a moderate Republican” in the 1980s because his policies are “so mainstream.”

In an interview with Univision 23 on Thursday, a Spanish station based in Miami, the president was asked about the perception among some Americans that he has a socialist vision for the country.

“One issue that Cuban-Americans are worried about is, they believe that you favor a socialist model for our country,” Obama was asked, according to a transcript of the interview compiled by The Hill. “Cubans and Venezuelans especially because of what they have gone through. What do you think of that?”

“I don’t know that there are a lot of Cubans or Venezuelans, Americans who believe that,” Obama replied.

“The truth of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if I had set the same policies that I had back in the 1980s, I would be considered a moderate Republican,” he said.

Read the rest where he talks about his fair tax system, and his belief in limited government. And recall that just about the first thing Reagan did was lower the tax rate on the top earners by a huge amount, and on capital gains, etc. Which set off the biggest boom in our nation’s history. Then he declared the federal government the enemy of the People, and did what he could to shrink it and slow down it’s growth. Just like Chicago Jesus is doing, right?

Obama. 57 states of delusional. Because people really are that stupid and that oblivious.

Oh You Sick Twisted Fuck

I was getting stuff done today, so I didn’t flip on the TV news until just now ... holy shiite, what kind of insane people are running around loose these days??

At Least 26 Murdered At Conn. School By Madman; 18 20 Children Dead

LATEST: Not Ryan, but his brother. Wrong picture, wrong person ... so I’ve taken that photo down.

4:52 p.m:  Neighbors described Adam Lanza to ABC as “odd” and displaying characteristics associated with mental illness. [no shit. really?]

4:41 p.m.: Federal law enforcement sources now say Connecticut school shooting gunman was Adam Lanza, 20, and not his brother Ryan Lanza, 24, as earlier reported. Adam was found dead in the school along with his mother, a kindergarten teacher there.

LATEST: Principal Dawn Hochsprung killed in the assault. 3rd gun was Bushmaster AR-15 rifle. . Lanza’s mother was teacher there; she is also among the dead.

breaking: Lanza’s mother dead at home, or at the school? Lanza is 24?  From Hoboken? Conflicting reports!

The Associated Press and local media reported the shooter, a 24-year-old male identified by CNN as Ryan Lanza, was also dead inside Sandy Hook Elementary School.

2:37 p.m.: Gunman Ryan Lanza’s mother found among the dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

2:28 p.m. The gunman in the Newtown, Conn., school shooting has been identified as Ryan Lanza, 24, of New Jersey. A dead body has also been found in his parents’ home, officials said. Lanza’s body was found in the school.

UPDATE 2: Ryan Lanza, found on Facebook, Parents found dead this morning???

The Connecticut school shooter has been identified as Ryan Lanza, 20. Lanza lists his residence in New Jersey, where his parent was found dead on Friday morning. His picture was shared on Facebook over 1,000 times in less than one minute. Lanza is implicated in the shooting death of more than 20 people at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut – where Lanza lists as his place of birth.

UPDATES from CNN:  *

[Updated at 2:11 p.m. ET] CNN’s Susan Candiotti has just reported that a law enforcement official tells her the suspect is named Ryan Lanza and he is in his 20s.

[Updated at 2:09 p.m. ET] We’re hearing even more devastating news out of Newtown, Connecticut. CNN’s Susan Candiotti has been told that 18 to 20 of the dead are children.

DEVELOPING: Authorities say at least 26 people, including 18 children, were killed Friday when a gunman clad in black military gear opened fire inside a Connecticut elementary school.

A law enforcement official said the shooter, who is dead, was from New Jersey and had ties to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Authorities recovered a Glock and Sig Sauer 9mm handgun, but it was unclear who killed the shooter, who wore black combat garb and a military vest.

Local news outlets report that the shooting occurred inside a kindergarten classroom, and that all the pupils in that classroom are unaccounted for.

An official with knowledge of the situation said the 20-year-old gunman, whose name has not been released, also had a .223-caliber rifle. The motive is not yet known.

Police are also questioning another man in connection with the shooting. Witnesses told the Connecticut Post that a handcuffed man, dressed in camouflage, was led out of a nearby woods by officers.

Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance said during an afternoon news conference that police arrived at the scene “within minutes” of a 911 call placed shortly after 9:30 a.m.

“Every door, every crack, every crevice of that school” was checked, Vance said. “The entire school was searched.”

Vance did not give details about the number of victims other than to say they included students and staff, pending notification of the families. He said more information would be released, possibly later Friday.

The massacre began inside the school’s main office as the principal was making morning announcements. Sources told Fox News students throughout the school could hear gunshots over the intercom system before the gunman entered the kindergarten classroom and continued his bloody rampage.

A dispatcher at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps said a teacher was shot in the foot and taken to Danbury Hospital. Local news outlets also reported that the principal was among those shot.

Parent Lisa Procaccini told Fox News that her daughter was sitting in a classroom when she and others heard gun shots.

“She was in a small class—a reading group and they started hearing bangs,” Procaccini said. “Her teacher, and I’m grateful for this, rushed kids into the bathroom and locked the door. They told kids it was hammering and tried to keep them calm.”

“Children were crying,” Procaccini said. “She did tell me about a little boy that was in a police officer’s arms, bleeding. I don’t know if she gets it.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said two firearms were recovered from the scene.

President Obama was notified of the shooting around 10:30 am ET, White House officials said.

The Newtown School District has locked down schools as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

A statement on the district’s website stated that afternoon kindergarten classes have been canceled.

The elementary school has close to 700 students.

Newtown is in Fairfield County, about 45 miles southwest of Hartford and 60 miles northeast of New York City.

Shortly after 9:40 a.m., police reported that a shooter was in the main office of the school. A person in one room had “numerous gunshot wounds,” police said.

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers. Some students were still in the school at 10:30 a.m., parents said.

School and local emergency officials are accounting for the children, who will be released to their parents to get them home. Some parents were sequestered at the Sandy Hook fire department, directly in front of the school.

Other frustrated parents were desperately trying to get information from officials as they searched the school.

Vanessa Bajraliu, a 9-year-old fourth grader, heard the shots.

“I saw policemen—lots of policemen in the hallway with guns,” she said. “The police took us out of the school. We were told to hold each others’ hands and to close our eyes. We opened our eyes when we were outside.”

Her brother, 17-year-old Mergim Bajraliu, a senior at Newtown High School, was at his nearby home when he heard shots, he said. He first went to a neighbor’s house.

“Then we heard sirens,” he said.

He rushed to the school on foot and saw a girl being carried out, he said. She looked badly injured. Another girl had blood on her face, he said.

Mergim soon found his sister and took her away from the scene.

Parent Richard Wilford said his Sandy Hook second-grader, Richie, heard what he described as “pans falling” when gunshots rang out. He said that his son told him that the teacher went to go check, came back in and locked the door and told the students to stand in the corner.

“What does a parent think about coming to a school where there’s a shooting” It’s the most terrifying moment of a parent’s life … you have no idea,” said Wilford.

Stuff And Nonsense

Well, Maybe It’s Fine For England

Maths Formula Calculates Perfect Christmas Tree

Makes Makes for a Perfect Tree: This is truly for the meticulous, most fastidiuos Christmas tree decorator, who really must have just the right mix of lights, ornaments and tinsel distributed perfectly on the ole Tannenbaum.

It is a mathematical formula that one can use to design the most perfect tree. It was created students Nicole Wrightman and Alex Craig of the University of Sheffield in the U.K. Their “treegonometry” takes into the account the height of a tree in order to calculate the ideal number of ornaments, length of tinsel, length of lights and location of the star on top.

< ahref="http://www.shef.ac.uk/news/nr/debenhams-christmas-tree-formula-1.227810">Members of the University’s Maths society, called SUMS, have put an end to bare branches, by calculating the amount of baubles, tinsel and lights needed, as well as the size of the essential star on top.

Department store Debenhams set the University the Christmas themed challenge to create the formulas for the perfectly decorated Christmas tree and it is also available below as a calculator.

If you’ve found your ideal Christmas tree but want to ensure you use the appropriate amount of decorations then the calculator will have the answer.

The formulas – which are being rolled out for use by Debenhams personal shoppers nationwide – are as follows:

TOTAL BALDERDASH

image

BAH HUMBUG!

This formula is frightfully incomplete, not taking into account AT ALL the branch density, nor giving and optimum size of the baubles, nor whether it is using large bulb or small bulb lights. It doesn’t even allow the user to choose whether to have an ornament majority tree or a tinsel one. Maybe in the UK this works, where every tree is probably some EU mandated Charlie Brown™ anemic stick and the country is under trade obligation to buy tinsel by the ship full from Brussels, but it won’t work here.

Not that it couldn’t be improved. You’d need to make an bulb size adjustment feature, and one that carries the number of lights per meter. You’d need another variable to handle branch density, and yet another one to deal with length since some trees are bushier than others. You’d want to work in a scaling factor as well, as we all know that the biggest balls go on the lower parts of the tree, unless you have cats or extra stupid children, in which case the most robust ornaments are the ones put there, well strapped down.

So overall, perhaps these students rate a C+ or a B- for their concept, but the app is far from complete. Personally, I’d write in a secret suicidal back door bit of code for anyone who puts up one of those “quaint” chirping bird ornament things. Hang one of those and the calculations null out, leaving you a real Charlie loser of a holiday bush.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
