The Tyrannical State Rears Its Ugly Head

Imagine going on the internet to make a purchase.  A week or so later you get a letter from your city’s finance department telling you that your actions in not paying any state taxes for that purchase will now result in your being fined $200 for every one of those items.  No questions asked.  No mercy.  No quarter.  No extenuating circumstances. No pleas.  No bargaining.  Pay up or go to jail, basically.

Sounds like a Russian tactic or something done by a dictator, right?

Wrong.

It’s New York.

What I want to know is how it is constitutionally legal for them to get those records of sales.  I know what the article states but still......this is one hell of an invasion of privacy.  Where will it stop?  Will the state soon have access to all our purchases?  I really do not think it is any of their business that I purchase guns and ammo through the internet.  Or adult sex toys.  Or porn.  Or various insecticides and herbicides.  Or anything else for that matter. (disclaimer for any FBI or NSA types “monitoring” this blog: the mere mention of the former examples does not infer or imply the author of this post engages in any of those purchases!  They are meant to be illustrative only. )

Oh, and where’s the Hildebeast in all this?  How is she planning on helping out her constituents?

An Interesting Perspective

Read what Richard Baehr at American Thinker has to say about the correlation of psychologists per 100,000 in states that voted for Bush as opposed to states that voted for Kerry.

The ten states (including the District of Columbia ) with the highest ratio of psychologists per 100,000 residents, were, with the exception of Colorado, all blue states which supported John Kerry (D.C, Vermont, Minnesota, Massachusetts, New York, Colorado, Illinois, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania, in rank order from one to ten).  The ten states with the lowest ratio of psychologists per 100,000 residents, all were red states supporting Bush (Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Nevada, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky, Indiana). Louisiana with the lowest ratio is listed first.

I guess if you’re a democrat you tend to need more counseling as you are incapable of fighting off the demons running around in your head. Remember what the root word of socialism is:  social.  To me, it signifies a characteristic where people are incapable of independent thought and action and must rely upon others.  Then remember that most democrats/liberals are socialists. The rest is easy.

Much has been said about P.E.S.T. and we’ve even covered it here at BMEWS (here and here) but you have to wonder about the characteristics and psychological make-up of such dependency-prone people who leave the country when they can’t their way. How typical.  No balls to stay and fight in what they believe in.

Did we have Republicans doing the same or running to counselors when Clinton won?

I rest my case.

INVESTMENT TIPS for 2005

Yesterday was social security.  Today we discuss the ramifications of merger and acquisition activity on Wall Street and it’s impact on your portfolio.  Just think how much richer you’d be in retirement if you were able to privatize your social security accounts and were invested in these companies.  You’d be a millionaire in no time.

The experts I’ve consulted have assured me that the following companies stand a good chance of joining their fortunes in hopes of even greater ones.  You’d be wise to pay attention.

Merger and Acquisition possibilities for 2005

1. Hale Business Systems, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Fuller Brush, and W.R.Grace Co. will merge and become: Hale, Mary, Fuller, Grace.

2. Polygram Records, Warner Bros., and Zesta Crackers join forces and become: Poly Warner Cracker.

3. 3M will merge with Goodyear and issue forth as:  MMMGood.

4. Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motors, Dofasco, and Dakota Mining will merge and become: ZipAudiDoDa.

5. FedEx is expected to join its major competitor, UPS, and become: FedUP.

6. Fairchild Electronics and Honeywell Computers will become: Fairwell Honeychild.

7. Grey Poupon and Docker Pants are expected to become:  Poupon Pants.

8. Knotts Berry Farm and the National Organization of Women will become: Knott Now!

9. Victoria’s Secret and Smith & Wesson will merge under the new name: Titty Titty Bang Bang.

The Real Inaugural Address

You all know how much Vilmar and I enjoy reading P.J. O’ Rourke. The man has a talent for cutting through the bullshit that I admire. In the current issue of The Weekly Standard, O’Rourke gives his version of what President Bush really should say in his inaugural address ....

MY FELLOW AMERICANS, I had intended to reach out to all of you and bring a divided nation together. But I changed my mind. America isn’t divided by political ethos or ethnic origin. America isn’t divided by region or religion. America is divided by jerks. Who wants to bring a bunch of jerks together with the rest of us? Let them stew in Berkeley, Boston, and Ann Arbor.

The media say that I won the election on the strength of moral values. If the other fellow had become president, would the media have said that he won the election on the strength of immoral values? For once the media would have been right.

We are all sinners. But jerks revel in their sins. You can tell by their reaction to the Ten Commandments. Post those Ten Commandments in a courthouse or a statehouse, in a public school or a public park, and the jerks go crazy. Why is that? Christians believe in the Ten Commandments. So do Muslims. Jews, too, obviously. Show the Ten Commandments to Hindus, Buddhists, Confucians, or to people with just good will and common sense and nobody says, “Whoa! That’s all wrong!”

But jerks take issue with every one of the Ten Commandments. Jerks are particularly offended by the first two Commandments. Of course people of faith, decent people, differ on interpretations of the first two Commandments. For example, we don’t all agree about the meaning of “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” However, we do all
agree about “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them” when them is Freud, Marx, and Dan Rather.

“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.” How many times, over the last few months, have we heard, “Ohmigod, ohmigod, ohmigod, I can’t believe George Bush won”?

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” Let’s be fair about this. We did see a lot of white, non-Hispanic Democrats in churches in 2004. But they were all running for president. And the churches were inner-city black churches. I happen to know that there are churches in the white, non-Hispanic suburbs where these Democrats live. Apparently jerks can’t find them.

“Honor thy father and thy mother.” Are telling lies about a bankrupt Social Security system and trying to block its privatization reform ways to do this?

“Thou shalt not kill.” Why, in the opinion of jerks, is it wrong to kill a baby but all right to kill a baby that’s so little he hasn’t been born yet? And why do the same jerks who favor abortion oppose the death penalty? We can imagine people so full of loving kindness that they can accept neither the abortionist nor the executioner. We can even imagine people so cold-hearted that they embrace them both. But it takes a real jerk to argue in favor of killing perfect innocents and letting Terry Nichols live.

“Thou shalt not commit adultery.” The jerks have begun praising marriage lately. But only if the bride and groom each have a beard.

“Thou shalt not steal.” In 2004 the United States government spent $2,318,800,000,000. Thus every American benefited from $7,919.37 worth of federal services. Let me ask the jerks something. Say you’re average jerks, a “blended family” of four. Did you pay $31,677.48 in taxes last year? If you didn’t, you took things from other Americans. What did you give in return?

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” Especially not in return for vast wealth, abundant prizes, and lavish praise from fellow jerks. I’m talking to you, Michael Moore.

And then there is the Tenth Commandment. “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s.” The Ten Commandments are God’s basic rules about how we should live--a brief list of sacred obligations and solemn moral precepts. The first nine Commandments concern theological principles and social law. But then, right at the end, is “Don’t envy your buddy’s cow.” How did that make the top ten? What’s it doing there? Why would God, with just ten things to tell Moses, choose as one of those things jealousy about the starter mansion with in-ground pool next door?

Yet think how important the Tenth Commandment is to a community, to a nation, indeed to a presidential election. If you want a mule, if you want a pot roast, if you want a cleaning lady, don’t be a jerk and whine about what the people
across the street have--go get your own.

The Tenth Commandment sends a message to all the jerks who want redistribution of wealth, higher taxes, more government programs, more government regulation, more government, less free enterprise, and less freedom. And the message is clear and concise: Go to hell.

P.J. O’Rourke is a contributing editor to The Weekly Standard and author, most recently, of Peace Kills (Atlantic Monthly Press).

What Needs To Happen To Social Security

This is a very complex issue but one the overhaul of which every American needs to consider.  It just can not continue to operate the way it does.

For the purists who will not tolerate talk of privatization, you have to think about this:  there are fewer and fewer people working for every one retiring.  These workers can not support paying buttloads of money to support retirees at the current rate.  Estimates are that in a few years we will only have two workers contributing for every retiree.  Back in the 40’s this number was 42!  FORTY FUCKING TWO!!!

Alternatives are few:  do nothing and run the program into bankruptcy by 2042 (hey, I don’t give a shit, I’ll be dead)—or—reduce benefits --or—increase the age of retirement to 72, then 73, then 74, then 75—or—pay higher social security payroll taxes.

There are those who say we need to raise the payroll ceiling currently set at about $90,000.  What these people seem NOT to understand is that if I make a lot more money but pay more into social security, then my social security check DAMN WELL better be higher than everyone else’s because I paid more.  These moonbats who are proposing raising the ceiling do so under the assumption that payouts still stay at today’s levels.  Typical socialist bastards.

THE MATH

So......what other alternatives are out there?

Privatization.

I did a quick bit of math via Excel and plotted out the life of a 20 year old earning $20,000 a year to start, averaging a 3.5% raise over his lifetime, and taking out 13% of salary for “social security.” (Note: fully privatization means that the employer who currently pays approximately 6.5% with the individual the other 6.5% to total 13%, would give that to the individual as it is his anyways!)

I factored in a “modest” growth through investments of 4% per year of these deducted monies (a 5 year CD now earns 4.5% so I am being reasonable) and at the age of 65 this person had about $650,000 in his account!!!!!  Of course, by then people will be living longer, working longer, and their nest eggs will be considerably larger.

Do you realize this person could then withdraw $2700 per month and NEVER touch the principle?  (of course, that assumes a 5% growth of portfolio at retirement and does not factor in inflation but STILL!!!!) All that money is HIS!!!!  Or goes to HIS heirs when he dies.  Our current Social Security system does not do that.

I then raised the rate of return on the “social security” withdrawal for those same 45 years to 5% and the nest egg shot up to $830,000 or almost $3500 per month!!!!

In order to simulate a “real life” scenario of individuals actually taking ownership of their lives and retirements, I assumed this fictional individual was prudent in his investment style with periodic adjustments to the portfolio based on risk analysis (basically this means that the younger you are the more risk you can subject your money to and as you grow older you remove some risk by diversifying your portfolio to bonds, CDs, cash, money market instruments incrementally.)

So I raised the growth rate to the stock market average of 9% for the first 20 years; then a 7.5% average to reflect a blend of stocks and bonds for the next 20 and a 6.5% rate to reflect more risk aversion for the last 5 years.  The nest egg ballooned to almost $1.73 million dollars!!!!

Just 5% of that per year is $86,000 in retirement FOREVER!!! (over $7000 per month) The principle remains UNTOUCHED!!!

I also ran those numbers assuming someone staying in college, getting out and getting a $30,000 a year job.  The only variables I changed were that starting at 24 they’d be fully invest for 20 years and then stay with a mix for 15 more years yielding 7.5% and the last 5 years at 6.5%

At only 4% for the full 40+ years they’d have $980,000 (yielding over $4000 per month)

In the variable scenario they’d end up with almost $3 million ($12,345 per month)

Go ahead, do it yourself and see.  And since we almost always end up with increases in salary outstripping the nominal 3.5% I factored in, you can JUST IMAGINE what the numbers would be.  As an example, I started out in 1971 earning $200 per month (yes, $200 a month!) and when I retired it was close to $4500. There is no way that $2400 per year compounded at 3.5% would ever get close to $50000+ in 26 years.  So therefore I feel I am being very modest in my models.  For those with drive and ambition, the amount of money they’d have to partially fund their “retirement” would balloon exponentially.  Of course, this also assumes that anything they put away in this system is NOT their sole retirement.  Businesses can not all of a sudden change THEIR systems just because the person privatized.

One other note, I’ve yet to be able to somewhat accurately be able to project what social security would need to pay to future retirees to resemble what they get paid now.  But if my initial projections are correct, there is no doubt in my rabid mind that the system is doomed to failure---QUICK!!!

Witness how I admitted my difficulty in determining what social security would be paying workers in future dollars. But the leftist morons in this country who insist there is no crisis keep falling back on the argument that social security would stay solvent until 2042 and then would pay out 75% of what they pay now.

Did you catch that?  “WHAT THEY PAY NOW?”

Have any of you readers any clue how little $16700 would be worth 40 years from today?  These fucktards do not even admit that they’ve considered the fallacy of an argument that does not take into account inflation and the decrease in the dollar’s worth for the future.  If you do the math based on low inflation of 2.5% and using the rule of 72, that $16700 would be the equivalent of having your check sliced to less than $700.  Is that what you want?

MAKING THE CHANGE

Of course, all this change does not happen overnight.  Our congress-critters need to stop abusing the social security trust fund to start with.  We then need to understand that not everyone will be able to participate at these levels so some sort of “phase in” process needs to start.  I look at it this way:  if you are under 25 you go immediately to the private plan.  Any monies contributed by you in previous years get refunded to you plus whatever amounts your employer contributed (plus interest.) Between 25 and 45 you should have the option to stay in the current system or opt out fully or partially. After 45 you stay in the system as it is today.  This way no old people or those closer to retirement need to fear being left out in the cold.

Furthermore, those who opt out totally are just that---OUT!!  The government will take NO RESPONSIBILTY for their retirement benefits.  If they are stupid and stay fully vested in the market until 70 and then the market goes in the shitter and they get wiped out---so sorry, time to die!

Also, the government will have to assume a several trillion dollar obligation (much of it unfunded) in order to continue to pay off those still either totally in the system or partially in the system until they all die off.  But that debt, like all others, will continue to decrease in value with time.  After everyone in the old system is dead the debt can either be paid off slowly or just left alone because inflation makes it worth less and less every year.  A similar example is taking out a mortgage for 30 years.  Today the payment is high but as you get better and better paying jobs and raises, that mortgage amount stays the same yet the value of the dollar has gone down.  So your $900 note is chickenfeed 29 years from now.

For those who partially opt out then you will be guaranteed a social security check commensurate with a pro-rata percentage of what you contributed and the Social Security administration would be tasked with maintaining a second set of tables simulating today’s system in order to keep percentages and payouts similar.

So there you have it.  We all know social security is going to go down the tubes.  The moron democrats and their stooges, the AARP, are out there beating their drums scaring everyone into thinking if we change the system they will be eating cat food and going without medication while living in refrigerator cartons.

But if you look at this realistically, can there be any way for you to STILL think we need social security in today’s form?

MORE DISCUSSION

Let’s keep going.  Who said this about social security recently?

“(programs) are threatened by the looming fiscal crisis in Social Security.” There should be no new spending — or, more importantly, no tax cuts — “before we take care of the crisis in Social Security that is looming when the baby boomers retire.”

Most of you already guessed:  Bill Clinton.

So why is it that asshole Harry Reid, the new minority leader of the senate, says we don’t have a social security crisis? And why is it the democrats are now piling on yapping the same thing? Where the fuck were they in 1998?  What has so fundamentally changed in 6 years?

The Cato Institute back in 1998 wrote that shitbird, Clinton, agreeing with him and asking him to consider personal accounts.

Hell, Clinton even proposed some privatization himself.

But I will go out on a limb and state the only reason Clinton said what he said was to start of shitstorm of discussion amongst the partisan hacks and media to take attention off his troubles.  That’s just the kind of guy he was.

The price of doing nothing is discussed here.

For more info and a lousy alternative not privatizing click here.

Here is what the President plans to do.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW?

It appears the bureaucrats at the Social Security administration have been told to start an education campaign about the mess Social Security is in.  They are none too happy!  I immediately discredited their complaints when I read this:

“Trust fund dollars should not be used to promote a political agenda,” said Dana C. Duggins, a vice president of the Social Security Council of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents more than 50,000 of the agency’s 64,000 workers and has opposed private accounts.”

Can you believe it?  The SSA has 64,000 employees!

Again, I ask the question: where were these useless fucks when Clinton was saying the system was in bad shape?  Like many civil servants, these people have been feeding at the trough too long in jobs too easy collecting too much money as salary.  Take away their trough!! FIRE THEM ALL!!

And don’t forget to go here to get lots more info.

Let’s Force This Assclown Out

When I read this article I thought my chain was being yanked.  Yes, it was from the Washington Times but for all I know someone could have hijacked the page.

But apparently it is legit.

Can you believe we actually have here a college professor (read: left wing, fruit cake, pansy-assed, dyed in the wool liberal, asshat, socialist cocksucker) who actually flunked a Kuwaiti student who wrote a paper praising the US?

Here’s the asshat’s email address:  woolcockjoe@foothill.edu

Do it quit before they shut down the servers!  Let him know what you think of his traitorous ass.  Offer to buy him a one way ticket to Iraq.

Gotta love the name: Woolcock (which is why I thought this was a joke.  I guess the wool is in his head and the cock is in his mouth.)

The faculty directory is here. Let them know, too!

Speaking Of Political Correctness

Apparently some atheists are upset that President Bush said he has a relationship with the Lord.  They are so upset they will soon be foaming at the mouth.  Their president said:

“He just doesn’t get it and he seems to ignore the fact that in our Constitution we do not have a religious test for those seeking public office.”

Someone explain to me where the American public is demanding religious tests of their presidents.  And what are atheists, anyway?  5% of the population?  Hey, fuckheads, run your own candidate and let’s see how successful he is.

Asswipes!  Go ahead.  Read this to find out where these loonies are coming from.

Political Correctness Run Amuck

Looks like those that represent the loonies in the world have their panties in a wad about the Vermont Teddy Bear company’s portrayal of a bear in a straitjacket.

So they are pitching a fit. (yes, pun intended)

And, of course, the governor (after all, this is Vermont) wants the company to bend over, grab its ankles and take one for political correctness.  The company refuses.  So far.

Look, let me be clear, I’d never buy anything from this company because I think the concept of “teddy bears” is stupid.  Especially teddy bears dressed as people.  How fucked up is that?  And those big, burly motorcyclists with teddy bears on their bikes?  YIKES!!!

But if they stand firm I will have no problem recommending people to them.  Finally, a company with balls to stand up to this stupid shit.

More Junk Science?!?!

More Junk Science?!?!

Remember how I ranted and raved a few days ago about how we can’t seem to trust any of the “experts” out there touting this or that favorite theory or their predictions of gloom and death?

Well, here comes another pinprick to our little bubble of preconceived beliefs foisted on us by experts.

If you did any time at all in our public school system you will have learned (before you learned George Washington was our first president) that the Amazon jungle is very fragile and how the indigenous people there strip away trees, grow plants on the soil and then after a while, abandon those places to go chop down more trees somewhere else.  The belief was that the natives caused the soil to go barren with their planting.

Well hang on to your hats, boys and girls. Looks like those wiley Indians knew what they were doing and may know today.  The only problem is our overly-educated and not-so-intelligent scientists can’t figure out how they did it.

But they WILL continue to pass along junk science as bible fact to everyone.

So....who is right?

Another Case Of Irresponsible Parents

Sorry, but little 12 year old girls doing the bump and grind to lyrics like “voulez-vouz couchez avec moi” and “Gotta get wet, are you ready yet?” just is not appropriate.  This smacks of nothing more than a bunch of leftist moral relativists more concerned with being friends with their daughters than actually being real parents and setting not only standards but setting good examples of acceptable behavior.

I don’t blame the school at all.  As for the parents calling the schools refusal to allow the girtls to sing this provocative song censorship, then they have absolutely no clue what is going on around them.

Check out the picture in the story. What’s the image and message supposedly sent with such poses?

Political Correctness Striking Fox?

It appears that CAIR is unhappy with Fox’s portrayal of a Sheethead family acting as terrorists in the hit series, “24.”

Even worse is the possibility that Fox may be knuckling under to CAIR’s threats and may actually make changes to some episodes.

I can see it now: the last hour of the show will be re-shot to reflect an Israeli conspiracy wherein the family is really Jewish but tried to pass as Muslims.NPR will report it as a Zionist plot and demands for reparations will be made.

Who’s with me?

(as a side note, as much as I REALLY enjoy this program (I watch it on DVD 4 episodes at a time) I will add Fox to my shitlist of programming.)

What Does The Future Hold?

Have you ever sat back and thought to yourself, “My parents have been on this planet X number of years.  What great things have taken place in their lifetime and how has life changed?”

I think of my father.  Where he was born is important as they had little exposure to motor vehicles.  So from birth he’s basically gone from horse and buggy to incredibly intelligent, safe and efficient cars; airplane travel that allows spanning the continent in mere hours and soon---space travel.  He’s seen landings on the moon; incredible universe discoveries via space telescopes; the atomic bomb; TVs (from B&W to plasma); radio (AM to FM); computers (let’s not even go there); internet; medical miracles; intelligent homes that respond to voice commands; etc. etc. etc.

So what will be saying 20 years from now?  Where will we be?  What will be “discovered” or become so common we do not even give it any thought?

Here are a couple of things to start with.

Spray on power cells. Imagine the ability to spray this stuff on clothing and plugging your cell phone or laptop into your suit coat?  Will we truly be “wired beings” in the future?

Or how about nanotechnology imbedded into your clothes to allow them to generate light or give you quick access to locations other stand in lines for?

Taking that step further, Philips has developed:

“a line of underwear, bras and accessories containing tiny electronic devices that monitor heart rates, body temperature, insulin levels and other parameters. When some measure goes awry—think heart attacks or strokes—your boxer shorts call an ambulance.”

That may be taking the concept of “being wired” a bit too far, eh?

So, any more ideas of what you’d like to see?

Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
