John Wayne Bobbitt in New Domestic Dispute
LAS VEGAS, Nv. (AP)

A man whose domestic troubles gained notoriety when his then-wife cut off his penis in an argument 12 years ago has been arrested and charged with battery on his current wife. John Wayne Bobbitt, 38, filed for divorce Monday following his arrest last weekend on a domestic battery charge involving Joanna Ferrell, Bobbitt’s lawyer said Wednesday.

It was at least the third arrest for Bobbitt in Las Vegas involving Ferrell. He posted $10,132 bond and was freed Tuesday from jail, police said. Bobbitt was arrested Saturday morning after he was accused of chasing Ferrell, 40, and pushing her to the ground outside his moving company job in an industrial section of Las Vegas.

Bobbitt’s lawyer, Barry Levinson, said Bobbitt was falsely charged after an argument about money. Bobbitt filed for divorce under the name John W. Ferrell, which Levinson said Bobbitt has been using. Bobbitt’s penis was surgically reattached after the 1993 attack. His then-wife, Lorena, was found innocent by reason of insanity after arguing that Bobbitt had abused her.

Bobbitt was acquitted of a domestic violence charge after an August 2004 incident involving Joanna Ferrell. She filed for divorce but the two reconciled. Bobbitt was convicted in February 2003 of battery involving Ferrell. The conviction prompted a judge to revoke probation and sentence Bobbitt to prison for his role in a 1999 theft at a store in northern Nevada.

Pregnant Woman Accused of Stabbing Boyfriend
(SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE)

A 27-year-old pregnant San Mateo County woman is in jail accused of stabbing her boyfriend with a kitchen knife after the couple argued about her nutritional choices, authorities said. The 18-year-old boyfriend, whom police have not identified, is being treated at a local hospital for stab wounds to his right lung and liver, said San Mateo County Deputy District Attorney Christine Ford. He is expected to recover and be released from the hospital sometime in the next couple of days, she said.

Maria Islas pleaded not guilty on Tuesday in Redwood City to one charge each of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence, Ford said. Each includes an added special circumstance of personally inflicting great bodily injury and weapon use, Ford said. The most serious charge, attempted murder, carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, Ford said.

According to Ford, the incident occurred in the middle of the afternoon of Sept. 8 in the home the couple shares in unincorporated San Mateo County near Menlo Park. “There was an argument over her nutritional habits and how they impinged on the health of the pregnancy,” Ford said. Islas is three months pregnant by her boyfriend of several years. Islas allegedly grabbed a serrated kitchen knife and stabbed the 18-year-old boyfriend in the abdomen.

At the man’s request, Islas called 911 and later was arrested by San Mateo County sheriffs. Islas is being held in jail without bail, Ford said. Her attorney, Eric Liberman, said he didn’t want to comment on the case because he was newly appointed to it and just met his client on Tuesday. Islas will return to court Oct. 3, at which time a preliminary hearing will be scheduled, Ford said.

Senator Landrieu Insanity Attack

Mary Landrieu: Brown Resignation Not Enough
(NEWSMAX)

Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu said Monday that Michael Brown’s resignation as head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency would not be enough to stem the tidal wave of criticism leveled at the Bush administration over its handling of the Hurricane Katrina crisis.

Brown’s departure, Landrieu said, “will not alone solve all the problems that plagued the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina and the devastating floods that followed the levee breaches.”

In a statement posted to her Web site, the Louisiana democrat insisted that the Bush White House still needed to be held responsible.

“The people of our nation, and in particular, the Gulf Coast, deserve and demand full accountability for this administration’s missteps in protecting and helping Americans in need,” Landrieu complained.

On Sunday, Landrieu said it was President Bush’s fault that New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin didn’t use city school buses to evacuate those trapped by flooding.

A week earlier, she threatened to punch President Bush if he criticized Louisiana state and local officials.

Won’t Al Gore Just Please Go Away?

Al Gore Blasts Bush in SF Speech
SAN FRANCISCO (AP)

Former Vice President Al Gore urged Americans on Friday to hold the Bush administration accountable for failing to adequately prepare for and respond to Hurricane Katrina. “When the corpses of American citizens are floating in toxic flood waters five days after a hurricane struck, it is time not only to respond directly to the victims of the catastrophe, but to hold ... the leaders of our nation accountable,” Gore told environmentalists at the Sierra Club’s national convention.

Gore had been scheduled to give a speech to state insurance commissioners in New Orleans this weekend about the likelihood that global warming will spawn increasingly deadly hurricanes. He decided to take his speech to San Francisco after that conference was canceled. “The warnings about global warming have been extremely clear for a long time. We are facing a global climate crisis, it is deepening. We are entering a period of consequences,” Gore said.

Bush administration officials have said Katrina’s damage could not have been anticipated, but Gore rejected that. “What happened was not only knowable, it was known in advance, in great and painstaking detail. They did tabletop planning exercises. They identified exactly what the scientific evidence showed would take place,” Gore said.

In his Sierra Club speech, the former senator from Tennessee didn’t mention an act of mercy that he was personally involved in—his help airlifting some 270 Katrina evacuees on two private charters from New Orleans to Tennessee on Sept. 3 and 4. He did that at the urging of a doctor who saved the life of his son years earlier. Dr. Anderson Spickard, who is Gore’s personal physician and accompanied him on the flights, told The Associated Press that “Gore told me he wanted to do this because like all of us he wanted to seize the opportunity to do what one guy can do, given the assets that he has.”

Moonbat Alert: Halliburton Conspiracy

So far, Liberals and Democrats (redundancy?) have been having fun playing the race card over Hurricane Katrina. This was to be expected. However, something has been missing and I finally found it at the New York Daily News (a prime example of fishwrap). Be sure to pass this along to the tinfoil-hat enthusiasts over at Democratic Underground and Daily Kos. They will have a field day with this one. It appears that Halliburton is going to make a profit on Katrina ..

Halliburton Subsidiary Gets Katrina Deal

A Halliburton Co. subsidiary that has come under fire for its reconstruction work in Iraq has begun tapping a $500 million Navy contract to do emergency repairs at Gulf Coast naval and Marine facilities that were battered by Hurricane Katrina. The subsidiary, Kellogg, Brown & Root Services Inc. of Arlington, Va., was awarded the competitive bid contract last July to provide debris removal and other emergency work associated with natural disasters.

Jan Davis, a spokeswoman for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, said Sunday that KBR will receive $12 million for work at Naval Air Station Pascagoula, Naval Station Gulfport and Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. It will receive $4.6 million for work at two smaller Navy facilities in New Orleans and others in the South.

The company has provided similar work after major disasters in the United States and abroad for more than 15 years, including in Florida after Hurricane Andrew. But KBR has been at the center of scrutiny for receiving a five-year, no-bid contract to restore Iraqi oil fields shortly before the war began in 2003.

Halliburton has reported being paid $10.7 billion for Iraq-related government work during 2003 and 2004. The company reported its pretax profits from that work as $163 million. Pentagon auditors have questioned tens of millions of dollars of Halliburton charges for its operations there. Late last month three congressional Democrats asked Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld to investigate the demotion of a senior civilian Army official who publicly criticized the awarding of that contract.

Bunnatine H. Greenhouse, who had been the Army Corps of Engineers’ top procurement official since 1997, was removed from her position last month for what the Corps called a poor job performance. The lawmakers said the demotion “appears to be retaliation” for her June 27 testimony before Congress in which she detailed her objections to the award of contracts for Iraq projects.

Vice President Dick Cheney headed Halliburton from 1995 to 2000, and Democrats have questioned whether the company has gotten favorable treatment because of his connection.

And A few hot plasma TV’s sold at a pawn shop ,could make for a couple months of prepaid existance..like food and rent an security deposit while you move out and look for work in a new place swarming with other refugees also looking for work while out of town.And in this shitty republican economy getting work is not so easy now..
Didya ever consider THAT might be a reason for stealing plasma TV’s?

Stealing for food to eat is one thing, but for a security deposit is quite another.

If that’s okay now why wouldn’t it be okay to steal for a security deposit or rent ANY time?

Those trapped in the city faced an increasingly lawless environment, as law enforcement agencies found themselves overwhelmed with widespread looting. Looters swarmed the Wal-mart on Tchoupitoulas Street, often bypassing the food and drink section to steal wide-screen TVs, jewelry, bicycles and computers. Watching the sordid display and shaking his head in disgust, one firefighter said of the scene: “It’s a f---- hurricane, what are you do with a basketball goal?” Police regained control at about 3 p.m., after clearing the store with armed patrol. One shotgun-toting Third District detective described the looting as “ferocious.”

“And it’s going to get worse as the days progress,” he said.

In Uptown, one the few areas that remained dry, a bearded man patrolled Oak Street near the boarded-up Maple Leaf Bar, a sawed-off shotgun slung over his shoulder. The owners of a hardware store sat in folding chairs, pistols at the ready.

Uptown resident Keith Williams started his own security patrol, driving around in his Ford pickup with his newly purchased handgun. Earlier in the day, Williams said he had seen the body of a gunshot victim near the corner of Leonidas and Hickory streets.

So it’s not the poor folks looking for food and water.  In fact, reports are that when those items are being taken, the action is overlooked.  It makes sense; they will spoil shortly anyway, so why not use them as soon as possible?  But plasma TV’s and Basketball goals?  Good grief.

Smokey And The Bandit

The Right Reverend Al Sharpton was evidently in a major hurry to get out of Crawford yesterday. The sheriff’s deputies clocked his Lincoln doing 110 mph, chased the car for nine miles and finally pulled it over and gave his driver a ticket for speeding and evading arrest. I wonder why Brother Al was in such a hurry? Could it have been because all the media cameras had left Crawford for hurricane coverage in Louisiana? Watch for the Sharp One to pop up in New Orleans any day now. Where else is this media sock-puppet gonna go ....?

Sharpton Driver Arrested for Speeding

(WAXAHACHIE, Texas)—A car carrying the Rev. Al Sharpton led sheriff’s deputies on a nine- mile chase at speeds up to 110 mph before state troopers stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, authorities said. The civil rights activist called the sheriff’s report “ludicrous” and accused the Ellis County officers of “embellishing the story.”

“That nine-mile chase is news to me,” Sharpton told The Associated Press. “All I know is that the police pulled us over because they wanted to talk to the driver about speeding.”

Chief Deputy Charles Sullins said driver Jarrett B. Maupin, 43, was rushing Sharpton to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after Sharpton visited anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Sunday at her camp outside President Bush’s ranch in Crawford.

Because the 2005 Lincoln was rented to Maupin, of Phoenix, sheriff’s deputies impounded the car. Maupin posted a $1,000 bond on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and reckless driving, authorities said. The car carrying Sharpton and two other passengers was clocked doing 110 mph in a 65 mph zone on the interstate south of Dallas, Sullins said.

He said the driver ignored deputies’ attempts to stop it and weaved in and out of traffic before state troopers were able to get in front of the car. Sharpton caught a lift from a passing driver and made his scheduled flight to New York.

As reported here and all over the media, the anti-war protestors camped out with Cindy Sheehan in Crawford were joined last week by supporters of the President and the war in Iraq. They setup camp (Fort Qualls, named after the organizer’s son, Marine Lance Cpl. Louis Wayne Qualls, 20, who died in Iraq last fall) across from “Camp Casey”, where Sheehan and company are ensconced with caterers provided by Ben & Jerry’s. The new arrivals requested an open-air debate with the Bansheehanites and their response could have been the motto for the entire Left ....

Honesty is always the best policy .... unless you’re a doctor and one of your patients is a fat broad who won’t stop stuffing her face or get any exercise. Then you better not tell the stupid beeyatch the truth or you’re in deep trouble. According to modern rules where people take offense and get their feelings hurt at the drop of a hat, you may get a letter of reprimand from the state, be forced to publicly apologize, have to attend sensitivity training and maybe even get sued ....

ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP)—As doctors warn more patients that they should lose weight, the advice has backfired on one doctor with a woman filing a complaint with the state saying he was hurtful, not helpful. Dr. Terry Bennett says he tells obese patients their weight is bad for their health and their love lives, but the lecture drove one patient to complain to the state.

“I told a fat woman she was obese,” Bennett says. “I tried to get her attention. I told her, ‘You need to get on a program, join a group of like-minded people and peel off the weight that is going to kill you.’ “ He says he wrote a letter of apology to the woman when he found out she was offended.

Her complaint, filed about a year ago, was initially investigated by a panel of the New Hampshire Board of Medicine, which recommended that Bennett be sent a confidential letter of concern. The board rejected the suggestion in December and asked the attorney general’s office to investigate. Bennett rejected that office’s proposal that he attend a medical education course and acknowledge that he made a mistake.

Other overweight patients have come to Bennett’s defense. “What really makes me angry is he told the truth,” Mindy Haney told WMUR-TV on Tuesday. “How can you punish somebody for that?” Haney said Bennett has helped her lose more than 150 pounds, but acknowledged that the initially didn’t want to listen. “I have been in this lady’s shoes. I’ve been angry and left his practice. I mean, in-my-car-taking-off angry,” Haney said. “But once you think about it, you’re angry at yourself, not Doctor Bennett. He’s the messenger. He’s telling you what you already know.”
