Oh Gak

Forbes Magazine: Michelle Obama is

Most Powerful Woman In The World

Keyboard Kunnilingus at its finest!

When it comes to power, cultural impact means as much as money and political influence.

Forbes’ power lists are synonymous with moguls and movie stars, heads of state and captains of business. One look at the 2010 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list and it is clear that we’ve come up with a new ranking of the female power elite that reflects the New Order of now.

When we set out to identify this year’s list, we decided it was time to look up and out into the broader culture. Our assessment is based less on traditional titles and roles and more on creative influence and entrepreneurship. These power women have built distinctive companies and brands and championed weighty causes, sometimes through unconventional means; in other cases they have broken through gender barriers.

“weighty causes” hur hur hur. Forbes tips their hand a few paragraphs early by making an oblique Let’s Move reference.

We divided our power women candidates into four groups: politics, business, media and lifestyle (that is, entertainment, sports and fashion). We ranked the women in each group, and then group against group. Not easy, but that’s today’s reality: an unpredictable, diverse mash-up of hard power (currencies and constitutions) and dynamic power (audience and audacity).

At the top of our list, First Lady Michelle Obama is a true change-maker since taking lodge in the White House in 2008. The first African-American in the post, she’s changed the face of the office (literally), and with consistently high approval ratings, she’s given a new generation of girls and women around the world a role model. A former private attorney and public servant in Chicago, her interest in working with young people and advocating for healthy eating, among other issues, is evidenced by her Let’s Move! campaign, which aims to solve the epidemic of childhood obesity within a generation.

Credibility gap much? They came right out and said it, veiled reference to the regime included: they turned themselves inside out, changed all their values, and reworked their entire system so that FLOTUS, the head wookie, would be the winner. Where is this magazine published anyway, Chicago? Good grief, look at their reasoning: in an age wherein women can do anything, where no glass ceilings exist anymore, where women head nations and zillion dollar corporations, M.O.’s first stated “power attribute” is that she “literally” changed the face of the oval office. Yeah, by redecorating. Ladies, that’s how real power is expressed in these non-traditional role days, thank you so much.

Forbes full list is available in picture gallery form right here. On the heels of Michelle Antoinette are Irene Rosenfeld, CEO of Kraft Foods, Oprah, Angela Merkel Chancellor of Germany, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Pepsico CEO Indra Nooyi, and Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga?? How about that, a sideshow freak entertainer is only slightly less potent than the world’s most powerful diplomat and the leader of a corporation that out-earns Big Oil. ... oh the times, they are a changin’.

double mulligan?

Rewriting the rewriting of history

“According to opinion polls at the time taken directly after Tet and a few weeks after Tet, the American people wanted to escalate the war,” Robbins says. “They understand that the enemy had suffered a terrible defeat, so there was an opportunity if we had taken concerted action to actually win this thing.”

In fact, a majority of those polled after Tet considered themselves “hawks,” Robbins found. He adds that in the summer of 1967, hawks outnumbered doves on college campuses. “The notion that young people were long-haired dope smoking draft resisters in 1967-68 is not true. The ‘Forrest Gump’ view of history is wrong.”

One of Tet’s flaws, Robbins says, was that the North Vietnamese believed that if they attacked countrywide in the south with their tripwire forces, the south would rise up in revolt against Saigon and join the communists.

“And the reason they believed that was because they were reading the New York Times,” Robbins says.
...
To Robbins, the Vietnam narrative must be reclaimed from the “ruling class of hippies and leftists, who went from protests to the U.S. Senate in some cases” and those who “went from dope-smoking teach-ins to teaching from tenured positions on college campuses.”

Yes, there’s a whole book about it too.

Be Afraid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today’s Tale of Terror from the LameStream Media

FrankenFish

We’re all gonna die!!!

image

A Massachusetts company wants to market a genetically engineered version of Atlantic salmon, and regulators are weighing the request. If approval is given, it would be the first time the government allowed such modified animals to join the foods that go onto the nation’s dinner tables.

Ron Stotish, chief executive of AquaBounty, said at Monday’s first of two days of hearings that his company’s fish product is safe and environmentally sustainable.

Food and Drug Administration officials have largely agreed with him, saying that the salmon, which grows twice as fast as its conventional “sisters,” is as safe to eat as the traditional variety. But they have not yet decided whether to approve the request.

Critics call the modified salmon a “frankenfish” that could cause allergies in humans and the eventual decimation of the wild salmon population. An FDA advisory committee is reviewing the science of the genetically engineered fish this week and hearing such criticisms as the agency ponders approval.

image

Alive without breath, As cold as death,

Never thirsty, Ever drinking,

Clad in mail, Never clinking

Whether the public will have an appetite for it is another matter. Genetic engineering is already widely used for crops, but the government until now has not considered allowing the consumption of modified animals. Although the potential benefits — and profits — are huge, many people have qualms about manipulating the genetic code of other living creatures.

Genetically engineered — or GE — animals are not clones, which the FDA has already said are safe to eat. Clones are copies of an animal. With GE animals, the DNA has been altered to produce a desirable characteristic.

In the case of the salmon, AquaBounty has added a growth hormone from a Chinook salmon that allows the fish to produce their growth hormone all year long. The engineers were able to keep the hormone active by using another gene from an eel-like fish called an ocean pout that acts like an on switch for the hormone, according to the company. Conventional salmon produce the growth hormone only some of the time.

Hey, what the heck. Grow them on farms in the middle of the prairie. No live ungutted fish can leave the premises; no eggs would be released into the wild. But the MSM wants you to be afraid of everything all the time, so this is the big fear story for today. So take note, and immediately look at what Obama is up to! These fear stories are often used as smoke screens.

OTOH, should they meet by accident and a few cocktails, it’s likely that an Atlantic salmon could breed with a Chinook salmon. The Chinook is a fish that likes really cold water, as is the Ocean Pout. Both those fish grow all the time. Chinook salmon, which can reach 100lb, are just as conventional as any other salmon, they’re just a bit rarer. Chinook have been introduced into the Great Lakes, the waters of Patagonia, and lakes in New Zealand. And no tales of evil blood-sucking vampire salmon have come from any of those places. Probably because there were no survivors!!!

Nobody Will Hear You Tommy

Political Fables in today’s Town Hall

Thomas Sowell points out the obvious truths about how the economy became such a mess.

This will get no attention whatsoever in the media.

In case you don’t have it all memorized by now, Sowell points things out in today’s Town Hall online magazine, debunking a number of media myths and shooting a few sacred cows.

The party line that we are likely to be hearing from now until the November elections is that Obama “inherited” the big federal budget deficits and that he has to “clean up the mess” left in the economy by the Republicans. This may convince those who want to be convinced, but it will not stand up under scrutiny.

No President of the United States can create either a budget deficit or a budget surplus. All spending bills originate in the House of Representatives and all taxes are voted into law by Congress.

Democrats controlled both houses of Congress before Barack Obama became president. The deficit he inherited was created by the Congressional Democrats, including Senator Barack Obama, who did absolutely nothing to oppose the runaway spending. He was one of the biggest of the big spenders.

The last time the federal government had a budget surplus, Bill Clinton was president, so it was called “the Clinton surplus.” But Republicans controlled the House of Representatives, where all spending bills originate, for the first time in 40 years. It was also the first budget surplus in more than a quarter of a century.

The only direct power that any president has that can affect deficits and surpluses is the power to veto spending bills. President Bush did not veto enough spending bills but Senator Obama and his fellow Democrats in control of Congress were the ones who passed the spending bills.

He also reminds us that it was Bawney Fwank and Chris Dodd behind the subprime mortgage fiasco. With the full support of the Witch’s Chorus.

Most of those who pushed the lowering of mortgage lending standards were Democrats-- notably Congressman Barney Frank and Senator Christopher Dodd, though too many Republicans went along.

At the heart of these policies were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, who bought huge amounts of risky mortgages, passing the risk on from the banks that lent the money (and made the profits) to the taxpayers who were not even aware that they would end up paying in the end.

When President Bush said in 2004 that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should be reined in, 76 members of the House of Representatives issued a statement to the contrary. These included Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Charles Rangel.

A fair amount of Republicans were part of this too, either supporting it wholeheartedly or by their silence.

Remember these names in NOvember.

If we are going to talk about “the policies that created this mess in the first place,” let’s at least get the facts straight and the names right.

The current policies of the Obama administration are a continuation of the same reckless policies that brought on the current economic problems-- all in the name of “change.” Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are still sacred cows in Washington, even though they have already required the biggest bailouts of all.

Why? Because they allow politicians to direct vast sums of money where it will do politicians the most good, either personally or in terms of buying votes in the next election.

Throw the bums out. All of them.

Sometimes you need the MSM

I get most of my news from the internet. I hardly watch television news at all.

The JournoList story is breaking - blooming, blossoming - now ... and it’s no news at all to the folks who read BMEWS. Geez, what a surprise: vast numbers of professional journalists, the ones who gin up the stories you see on TV and read in the newspaper, were all members of a private internet forum, where they discussed the issues of the day, and generally reached the agreement that they would do whatever it takes to get Obama elected. Whether that meant burying stories about his birth certificate, ignoring the reverend Wright thing, calling any and every Conservative racist, or blackballing any individual (Joe the Plumber anyone?) who dared to question his messiahness in the slightest ... the fix was in. And now, nearly 2 years after the election, when Oshithead’s poll numbers are tanking, his approval rating falling like a meteor into a manure pile, and a large part of the 52ers waking up and looking for someone to blame for “making us” vote for this assclown ... now it’s coming out that the MFM had their playbook written up and signed off on way in advance. No shit Sherlock. Tell us what we don’t know. Conservatives have been aware of an extraordinary media bias ever since Walter Cronkite single-handedly lost the Vietnam War. Even though our troops won the Tet Offensive, even though they were caught by surprise, they battled back across a front the size of South Vietnam, and put that bad dog down but good.  But Uncle Walter said the war was unwinnable, and at that point the die was cast. From there, through Rathergate and beyond; eventually the Right woke up and called foul. Which made us crazy people, racists, and the lunatic fringe. Except that finally - and don’t expect to see this on TV, not even on “Faux News” - it’s coming out that there was deliberate collusion.

You can’t trust the press. Period.

But sometimes you need them. While the internet is a great thing, it’s also a GREAT thing - there are hundreds of millions of web sites - and it’s just too much of a pain to try and filter through even the necessary several hundred to find out what’s really going on. Sometimes, you need TV and radio news.

Today was one of those days for us. Even though we have two rather large reservoirs here in Clinton, the water in them is not for us. We get our water from artesian wells. It turns out that the water department found e. coli bacteria in one of the wells 3 days ago, and just bothered to tell us about it today. And golly, if they keep finding e. coli in the well water, they’re going to do the right thing and take that well off-line until they can get it treated. Yeah, a little too little and a little too late.

How did I find out? The oldest old fashioned way: one of the former board members of the condo association I live in came around door to door and told us. After that I looked stuff up online, and it was not an easy find at the time. He’d heard about it on the semi-local TV news. We have a little NJ station, and we also have an even smaller north eastern PA station. Both of them are now carrying the story that Clinton NJ has e. coli in the water. The story was not running on the NYC (50 miles away) based MSM. Maybe it is now. And I’m finding more stories on the internet news sites. But it was TV news that broke it ... and they do still have the power to reach more people faster and easier than any given website. So we’ll have to boil water for a couple days, and hope that’s enough.

Town of Clinton Water Department issues E. coli warning; boil water advisory

WALTER O’BRIEN • STAFF WRITER • July 21, 2010

CLINTON TOWN — A water well test has indicated the presence of E. coli; the water department warns customers to boil water before drinking or using for personal use.

The Town of Clinton Water Department water system on July 19 tested positive for the E. coli bacteria in water sample in Well #11 before treatment. The department warns customers not to drink the water without boiling it first, or to use bottled water for personal uses.

Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for at least one minute and let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills the bacteria and other organisms in the water.

The positive test of the water indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes in these wastes can cause short-term health effects, such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking this water.

The department said that repeated samples will be taken before treatment of the water to confirm the continued presence of the indicators of contamination. If any are detected, the well will be taken out of service until the problem is resolved.

The department will inform the public when tests show no presence of E. coli in the water. At that point you will no longer need to boil your water. The department anticipates resolving the problem within 3-5 days.

CLINTON — Customers of the town water system today were warned to boil the water before drinking it.

According to a notice from the town water department, water testing detected a fecal indicator (E. coli) in a Well 11 raw water sample.

Water from the Clinton system is distributed in the town itself, as well as to parts of Lebanon and the townships of Clinton, Franklin and Union. The sample was taken Monday.

The town urged people to not drink the water without boiling it first.

If I was in charge, that well would have been shut off within seconds of the bacteria being found. Run the test a bunch of times, but better safe than sorry. This seems more than a bit lackadaisical by the water department, although what comes out of the pipe every day smells like it has more chlorine in it than a community swimming pool. Will there be “why did you take 3 days to act?” repercussions? I hope so, but I don’t really care. As long as I don’t come down with 8 days of nonstop bloody diarrhea, I’m happy.

Oh, the “JournoList” situation. See here. Lots of other places too, Pajamas Media etc. But Daily Caller broke the story I think. If you can understand it all, good for you. Some of it is very “meta”, using far too many insider terms and understandings. I think I caught the real essence: the media is a total whore for Obama, a $2 trick, willing and eager to lie, cheat, and kill if necessary to do his bidding. Which isn’t news at all to any of us here, but to my surprise is shocking news for lots of other folks. I guess millions of people live under rocks, instead of in those nice McMansions I see everywhere. I suppose that the only real news part is that the scribblers involved actually were in active knowing well communicated collusion. I guess I assumed that as Kool-Aid drinkers the “professional” journalists had all just picked up on the meme by smelling the breeze and run with it. Not so! I gave them way too much credit for skills they don’t have. They got together and planned the whole thing. And now the word is leaking out.

(Fred Barnes, ever the gentleman smile )
Now, after learning I’d been targeted for a smear attack by a member of an online clique of liberal journalists, I’m inclined to amend my response. Not to say there’s a media conspiracy, but at least to note that hundreds of journalists have gotten together, on an online listserv called JournoList, to promote liberalism and liberal politicians at the expense of traditional journalism.

My guess is that this and other revelations about JournoList will deepen the distrust of the national press.

Elegant and under-spoken as always. More here.

And here! Everywhere in the VRWC actually. On ABC news? Ha!

Sean Hannity says that journalism died in 2008, when the mainstream media discarded even the pretense of professionalism and objectivity for the sake of installing an unqualified, ultra-radical community organizer in the White House. Judis’s words make a perfect epitaph for the headstone:

NOW IT IS ONLY TACTICAL

Stupide Dems Can’t Even Pretend Properly

Don’t know how I missed this one the other day, but hey, better late than never.

House Dems “Deem” themselves a “budget”

You know, because making a budget is only their ... primary responsibility!!

House Democrats ‘Deem’ Faux $1.1 Trillion Budget ‘as Passed’
by Connie Hair
07/02/2010

Last night, as part of a procedural vote on the emergency war supplemental bill, House Democrats attached a document that “deemed as passed” a non-existent $1.12 trillion budget. The execution of the “deeming” document allows Democrats to start spending money for Fiscal Year 2011 without the pesky constraints of a budget.

The procedural vote passed 215-210 with no Republicans voting in favor and 38 Democrats crossing the aisle to vote against deeming the faux budget resolution passed.

Never before—since the creation of the Congressional budget process—has the House failed to pass a budget, failed to propose a budget then deemed the non-existent budget as passed as a means to avoid a direct, recorded vote on a budget, but still allow Congress to spend taxpayer money.

House Budget Committee Ranking Member Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) warned this was the green light for Democrats to continue their out-of-control spending virtually unchecked.

“Facing a record deficit and a tidal wave of debt, House Democrats decided it was politically inconvenient to put forward a budget and account for their fiscal recklessness.  With no priorities and no restraints, the spending, taxing, and borrowing will continue unchecked for the coming fiscal year,” Ryan said.  “The so-called ‘budget enforcement resolution’ enforces no budget, but instead provides a green light for the Appropriators to continue spending, exacerbating our looming fiscal crisis.”

Was this all over the news 3 days ago, discussed ad-nauseum by all the talking heads, then jeered at and allowed to fall by the wayside? Because I wasn’t really watching too much news over the holiday weekend, and I’m certain that Congress “deeming” themselves a PRETEND BUDGET would be earth-shattering news that would zoom to the top of the news cycle and stay there for at least ... 72 hours? But I personally haven’t heard a single peep. Not even on Fox. Wazzup wit dat?

I looked up the vote, and along with the numbers, all it told me was

H RES 1500 YEA-AND-NAY 1-Jul-2010 8:02 PM
QUESTION:  On Agreeing to the Resolution
BILL TITLE: Providing for consideration of the Senate amendments to the bill (H.R. 4899) making emergency supplemental appropriations for disaster relief and summer jobs for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2010

So I’m a bit befuddled here.

But Paul Ryan (R-WI) seems to understand the dealio and is more than a bit miffy:

“Yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office rang the latest fiscal alarm with the release of The Long-Term Budget Outlook,” Ryan said.  “Today, Congress again hit snooze.  To avert a fiscal and economic calamity, Washington needs to wake up.”

“It is unclear how many more fiscal alarms need to go off before Washington takes action to avert our looming debt crisis,” Ryan said.  “Earlier in the month in testimony before the House Budget Committee, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke emphasized the urgent need for a ‘fiscal exit strategy.’ Last week, Admiral Mike Mullen warned that our debt is ‘the biggest threat we have to our national security.’ Over the weekend, Europeans lectured us at the G-20 summit on the unsustainability of continued profligacy.  [Tuesday], the CBO reiterated what all but Washington Democrats understand: we are careening off a fiscal cliff.

Lucky for me the GOP put out a helpful pamphlet explaining that this was all smoke and mirrors, even though the smoke is a clear indication of an actual bonfire, and the mirrors are busy hiding the flames from people’s vision. Oh look, over there, a shiny unicorn! Ooooh, aaaah!

What House Democratic leaders call a “budget enforcement resolution” is in fact just another “deeming” scheme – one that concedes they cannot meet their most fundamental governing
responsibility: writing a congressional budget. They have created a masquerade that only advances their spend-as-you-go philosophy, accelerating the march toward a fiscal and economic crisis. They are doing so because a majority of rank-and-file Democrats cannot vote for a budget with trillion-dollar deficits. As even House Budget Committee Chairman Spratt has acknowledged: “You can say that that’s a lack of courage.”

The analysis below makes the following points:
* This is not a budget. The measure fails to meet the most basic, commonly understood objectives of any budget. It does not set congressional priorities; it does not align overall spending, tax, deficit, and debt levels; and it does nothing to address the runaway spending of Federal entitlement programs.

* It is not a ‘congressional budget resolution.’ The measure does not satisfy even the most basic criteria of a budget resolution as set forth in the Congressional Budget Act.

* It creates a deception of spending ‘restraint.’ While claiming restraint in discretionary spending, the resolution increases non-emergency spending by $30 billion over 2010, and includes a number of gimmicks that give a green light to higher spending.

* It continues relying on the flawed and over-sold pay-as-you-go [pay-go] procedure. Paygo – which Democrats have used mainly to raise taxes, and have ignored when it was inconvenient – does nothing to reduce deficits or restrain spending growth in existing law. The pay-go statute adopted in this resolution does not correct its fundamental flaws.

* Outsourcing fiscal responsibilities. The measure is another hand-off by the Democratic Majority of Congress’s power of the purse – this time relying on the Fiscal Commission created by the President to do Congress’s job.
...
Since enactment of the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, the House has never failed to mark up and pass its own budget resolution. The “budget enforcement” measure conjured up by the Democratic Majority cannot hide their unprecedented collapse in congressional budgeting. It creates skepticism in global financial markets that the U.S. government is even capable of managing its fiscal affairs. The uncertainty it creates inhibits job creation and economic growth.

This is far more than a failure of procedure or politics. It is an abdication of a fundamental responsibility by a Majority that is losing both its will, and its ability, to govern – and it is threatening America’s prosperity in the process.

What, so Obama’s Fiscal Commission is actually going to come up with the budget? Great! Since that’s Congress’s main job, we can do without them then. You’re all fired! Think of how much money that can save.

While Democrats try to claim their “enforcement resolution” is the “full equivalent, the full complement of a budget,” it is in fact a façade that attempts to hide their failure in the most basic function of government: passing a budget. This is not a budget, even in the most commonly understood terms.

* It does not set priorities, or account for spending demands. Like any budget, a congressional budget resolution is a blueprint for allocating resources among the government’s major activities. It is the only legislative vehicle that views government spending, taxes, and borrowing comprehensively: everything else is piecemeal. This “enforcement resolution” offers no blueprint for budgeting. It does not show how the House intends to meet the government’s major obligations – such as national defense, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans’ benefits, and so on – as laid out in a budget resolution. It
makes no choices among the broad categories of spending – which ones should get more funds, and which less. It leaves all the budgeting to someone else.

* It does nothing to control entitlement spending. The biggest problem in the budget outlook is uncontrolled entitlement spending – and this resolution does nothing to address it. The Democrats already have worsened the entitlement crisis, first by ignoring it, then by adding their $2.6-trillion health care program, among other things. The “enforcement resolution” simply endorses an already reckless spending binge.

* It makes no attempt to align spending, tax, deficit, and debt levels. The resolution fails to show how government spending in fiscal year 2011 will be financed – how much by taxes, how much by borrowing – and thereby ignores the alarming deficits and debt run up by this President and Congress. Under the President’s budget, debt held by the public doubles in 5 years (compared with 2008) and triples in 10 years; and by doing nothing, the Democratic leadership is endorsing that path.

Ok, so this is all Democrat shenanigans, and the Republicans are calling them on it. Wouldn’t that be news too? I mean, WTH, it’s only another trillion plus of new debt. It’s only our future. Isn’t anybody listening anymore? Don’t any of these journalists even want to tell this story?

GFY LA

The Los Angeles City Council, protesting Arizona’s tough crackdown on illegal immigration, voted Wednesday to ban most city travel to Arizona and future contracts with companies in that state.

Boycott Council members argued that a new Arizona law, which will make it a state crime to lack immigration papers and requires police to determine whether people they stop are in the country illegally, would lead to racial profiling and discrimination. The law takes effect July 23. ...

The council also called on the city attorney’s office to review all of the city’s $58 million in existing contracts with Arizona companies to determine which can be canceled.

The resolution, which now heads to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, would still allow city officials to travel to Arizona under “special circumstances” that are in the city’s interests. Also, existing contracts with Arizona firms would be exempt from the ban if canceling them would lead to “significant additional cost” to the city.

Yeah, but ...

California Penal Code Section 834b

(a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully
cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws.
(b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following:
(1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and
place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status.
(2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or leave the United States.
(3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal status and provide any additional information that may be requested by any other public entity.
(c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city, county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly prohibited.

So in a poll in their own newspaper, the LA Times asks

Was the L.A. City Council right to pass a boycott of Arizona?

And the people of LA responded clearly:

image

NINETY SEVEN PERCENT AGAINST THE BOYCOTT. “Representative government” indeed. Enjoy the comments too, where many people realize that their own cops are breaking their own ALREADY EXISTING LAW in not rounding up the illegals. And they’re damn sick of it. Many of the 300+ comments are calling for the arrest of the city council, as they are clearly in violation of 834b(c) above. String ‘em up!!

Meanwhile, Arizona starts to react to Los Angeles ...

image

h/t to Steamboat McGoo who borrowed the graphic from Exurban League who created it and ran the first post on the buried poll story that was carried at News Busters. To wit: If 97% of the people disagree with the City Council’s actions, you’d think that would be front line news. Right? Right? Riiiight?

Wrong. Nothing to see here, move along. Stupid peasant.

The Lie That Just Won’t Die

Just in case you entertained the thought that the Fox News channel was a conservative media outlet. They are not. At best, they are center-slightly left. Compared to the other bullshit networks, that makes them look like crazy right wing extremists, but the reality is otherwise.

Right now Fox has 3 talking head newsbabes on, arguing over whether an autistic 14 year old should be suspended over a drawing he made. Probably of a gun or something, I didn’t catch the whole story. Talking head blond is arguing that Zero Tolerance “levels the playing field” and makes all kids equal, regardless of age or physical/mental ability. Not a single one of them realizes that Zero Tolerance is a total draconian crock of shit designed and enacted only to allow far-left leaning school administrators to do their jobs without a single lick of common sense. “Conservative” Fox News, “fair” and “balanced”. And they couldn’t buy themselves a clue if they were covered in $100 bills.

image

A 14 year old autistic boy was suspended and charged with a felony over a picture he drew in school. The child’s mother said he was in a special needs class when he drew a picture of two stick figures, one of which was holding a gun.

The right response, of course, is “What kind of numbnuts chickenshit assholes run this school system? All the school systems? And since when is free expression through art considered terrorism and not a First Amendment expression? Zero Tolerance is liberal bullshit and always has been. And now they’re busting autistic kids? They oughta be flogged right down to the bone.”

But onto the other never ending lie ...

Fox News EXCLUSIVE:

Toy Gun Sold in U.S. Can Easily be Converted to the Real Thing

Here we go again!!

Felons, illegal immigrants and all others banned from buying a gun in the United States have a new alternative if they’re looking to get their hands on a firearm: Just buy a toy.

A FoxNews.com investigation reveals that a popular recreational pellet gun can be converted easily to a real semi-automatic weapon. And while the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is already aware of the issue, these “toys”—new, top-of-the-line airsoft rifles—continue to be sold throughout the country.

When the ATF seized a shipment of 30 of these guns in October from a port in Tacoma, Wash., it said they could be “readily convertible” to machine guns. But gun experts called that claim absurd and said the ATF was overstepping its bounds.

Now one of those critics is reversing his position, saying at least one airsoft manufacturer has taken the quest to be authentic a little too far.

“The airsoft can be converted to an AR-15,” firearms manufacturer Leo Gonnuscio told FoxNews.com after testing the make and model of airsoft guns seized by the ATF.

Having concluded that several other airsoft guns could not be converted to fire real ammunition, Gonnuscio said he was surprised to find that he was able to to transform this particular gun to the real thing —and with “minimal work,” because its bottom half, or “receiver,” is so similar to an AR-15’s.

To make the airsoft receiver function just like an AR-15’s, Gonnuscio said, “All you have to do is drill one hole.”

And once that’s out of the way, the rest is even easier. The AR-15 receiver is the only part of the semi-automatic rifle that is given a serial number, and is the only part that is regulated. All the remaining parts of the real thing can be purchased by anyone – any kid, criminal or terrorist.

But as semi-automatic weapon, Gonnuscio said, “It may not last forever, but they’ve got a gun to get the job done that they were assigned to do, and nobody knows the wiser.”

The ATF has made no reported moves to regulate or seize any more of the airsoft guns, which continue to be sold in stores around the country, and it appears to be bowing to critics and reconsidering its stance on the guns’ convertibility.

“We’re having to take a serious look at this, so it’s just something that we’re reviewing, and I’m hoping we’ll have some information that we can make available to the public certainly very soon,” ATF spokesman Drew Wade told FoxNews.com.

But firearms expert Len Savage said the ATF is taking a “serious look” at the wrong issue—or, more specifically, the wrong part of the gun.

The reason it’s possible to make these airsoft receivers function as real receivers is that all an AR-15 receiver does is hold the gun together, Savage said. So with enough gun knowledge, almost anything can be made into a receiver.

“There’s a line of AR-15 firearms out there where the lower (the receiver) is made entirely of injection molded plastic … It could be made of cardboard and scotch tape,” he said.

What a crock of shit.

I ran several posts a few months back on this very subject. I contacted the damn company and they had their guys try and fit real parts to the toy receiver. Result? The parts didn’t fit. It was far more than “just drilling one hole”. The internals could not be made to fit or function, period.

And if it IS the case that “almost anything” can be made to function as an AR-15 receiver, what happens now? Will 4x4 hardwood timbers be banned? Will duct tape be required to come with a serial number? Will we need Class III permits to buy our daughters a My Little Pony doll? Give me a frickin break.

If these guys, “firearms expert” Len Savage and “firearms manufacturer” Leo Gonnuscio, are correct, then let’s see what they built. Show me the gun, show me the steps, show me the thing firing. And do it all with “minimal effort” as the law demands, even if that “minimal effort” is 8 hours in a machine shop run by a gunsmith as the interpretation of the law someitimes actually allows. Otherwise STFU.

Leonard Leo Connuscio works for Kind Mountain Gunworks in Cornelius Oregon, where he is known for his work on H&K firearms.
Gun maker Len Savage has been in trouble with BATFE before, and felt at the time that the government was getting even with him for some court testimony of his that they didn’t like. Is what we’re reading here today his attempt to get back in the fed’s good graces? I’d say it was a definite possibility. Which makes his testimony quite suspect ...

AND FOX NEWS DID NOT LOOK INTO EITHER OF THESE GUYS IN THE SLIGHTEST.

Fair and Balanced? Not really. Actually Conservative and pro-2A? Not in your wildest dreams.

Spread the Panic, Ignore the Truth

I think about a million TV news stations, newspapers, online news sites, and blogs reported that someone had taken a shot at Congressman Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) office. Panic in the streets! Wild West Redneck Rampage!! Crazy Rightwingnuts!!

Not that I have much doubt that a significant number of citizens are this close to violent revolution over this government and the health care bill.

From what I recall, our American Revolution was supported by about 1/3 of the people living here at the time. And less than 1/10 of them were actually out there fighting. One tenth of one third? That’s the 3 Percent thing you may have heard about.

Anyway, it was all over the news, with endless press coverage and attempts at political leveraging.

Here’s the truth. Don’t expect it to get much press coverage.

Bullet that hit Va. congressman’s office random

By BOB LEWIS (AP) – 16 hours ago

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond police say the bullet that hit a window of Republican Virginia Congressman Eric Cantor’s office had been randomly fired skyward.

Amid reports of threats and vandalism against Democrats who voted Sunday for sweeping health care reforms, Cantor said at a Washington news conference Thursday that a bullet was fired into his Richmond office.

In a news release, Richmond police said that the bullet had been fired into the air early Tuesday. It hit the front window of a building that houses Cantor’s campaign office as it fell to back earth at a sharp angle.

The round landed on the floor of the office a foot inside a broken window pane. No one was in the building, and police say an investigation has yielded no suspects.

Had such a bullet been deliberately aimed, for it to have such a near vertical trajectory on impact and lack of energy means it was fired from a long, LONG distance away. Well over a mile. Here’s an example, using a very aerodynamic and accurate target bullet, fired at full velocity from a common long range target rifle.

image

The bullet drops nearly 1600 inches from the line of sight. 130 feet! Which means the barrel had to be tilted way way way up just to aim, and most rifle sights can’t move that much. Wind takes it’s toll as well. Even a light breeze can push the bullet more than 80 feet to the side at such a range. And all us shooters know about the transonic stability issue; accuracy degrades a lot when the bullet slows down to subsonic velocity. This bullet hit the window at about 600 feet per second, perhaps less. My ballistics software can’t calculate beyond 2500 meters (2734 yards or 1.5 miles).

So no, it was NOT a terroristic act of violent protest or anything like that. It was just a stray, pure random chance, and a rotten coincidence.

*** Can bullets shoot that far? Yes they can. And the really big ones can still hit with some power. Here’s a fun read from a military test done 130 years ago, shooting at TWO MILES. So be aware of what’s beyond your target when you go shooting. Remember that you are responsible for that bullet from the time you buy it until the time it stops moving once fired.

Newspeak

“fundamental transformation” = massive downsizing due to lack of market share

ABC News to shrink staff. Media bias = fewer viewers = less ad revenue = job cuts

ABC News said Tuesday that it plans to substantially cut its staff as part of a “fundamental transformation” of the news division at the Walt Disney-owned US television network.

ABC News president David Westin, in an email to ABC News employees, said all news department staffers would receive buyout offers in the next few days.

“The response to this voluntary program will determine the extent to which we will need to make further reductions,” he said.

Westin did not say how many jobs the company was seeking to eliminate but he said the restructuring of the news operation to take advantage of digital technology will result in “substantially fewer” people on staff at ABC News.

The Los Angeles Times, citing unidentified newsroom employees, said the network was looking to cut as many as 300 jobs, or around 20 percent of its total staff of around 1,400. The New York Times put the figure at up to 400.

“We anticipate that between now and the end of the year ABC News will undergo a fundamental transformation that will ultimately affect every corner of the enterprise,” Westin said.

Like other US television news operations, ABC News has been suffering from the weak advertising market and is looking to cut down on the costs associated with deploying a traditional two- or three-person crew for news assignments.

At the network level, ABC cut 31 of the 575 jobs from its Broadcast Operations & Engineering group in January. As many as 40 more may be cut before the end of the year.

And it couldn’t happen to a nicer, more honest bunch of people. Another nail in the coffin for Old Media.

One If By Land

Nothing to see here, move along. No media bias whatsoever. It’s just advertising revenue.

Ok, I may be being unfair to the Boston Herald. I do not know this paper or which way it leans. But an SEIU attack ad in their headline banner? Oh come on already.

Here’s another one, their article on an attack ad the Dems put out. (RE: comments from another post. See how easy it is to play with their names?)

image

Shipping giant UPS isn’t amused by a Democratic Party campaign pamphlet attacking Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown that plays off the company’s slogan “What can Brown do for you?”

Atlanta-based United Parcel Service, known for its ubiquitous brown trucks, demanded yesterday that the Massachusetts Democratic Party, which is listed as paying for the pamphlet, stop distributing it.

The mailer asks “What can Brown do to you?” It shows Scott Brown dressed up as a UPS driver and says, “He can reward corporations that ship your job overseas just like George W. Bush.”

Comments at that article promise to rub the Dem’s noses in the Brown stuff. Most telling one so far, put in by the bloggers at Clean Sweep Beacon Hill

The state’s AG, the person responsible for trademark and brand protection steals the brand of UPS to mock her opponent. Priceless. She really doesn’t want to win this Tuesday.
Did she steal UPS’s trademarked property? Absolutely! She never got permission, never asked! Doesn’t get any better than this...

Meanwhile, his Supreme Haughtiness Hisself is coming up to Boston on Sunday to stump for the flailing Croakster. Takers of the opinion poll at the BH are going 2/3 that this is a move of desperation.

President Obama is steaming into the Bay State on a high-stakes mission to rescue Democrat Martha Coakley’s stranded Senate bid from a GOP wave that could sink his landmark health-care reform bill as well.

“It’s white-knuckle time,” said Democratic operative Phil Johnston. “This is an election we have to win. It’s key to everything the Obama administration wants to do. The stakes are high.”
...
The pressure is now on Obama - facing the lowest ratings of his presidency - to set Coakley on a winning course after his Sunday visit. A victory by Brown would endanger the health-care initiative in the Senate.
...
A presidential visit during the ongoing devastation in Haiti coupled with the bruising health-care battle on Capitol Hill means Coakley must be in severe danger, said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.

“I think (the White House) would have preferred that he not make the trip unless he had to, but now he knows he has to,” said Sabato. “They were hoping she would pull out of the tailspin, but the tailspin continues, which means he has to ride to the rescue.”

The trip poses a significant political risk for Obama after he stumped for Gov. Jon Corzine in New Jersey and for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds in Virginia. Both Democrats lost.

How do Tea Partyer’s like their tea? Hot and Brown of course! (see? the “clever” wording possibilities are infinite. And you simply can’t avoid using the Lexington quote)

Tea Party members brew Scott Brown boost

Massachusetts is becoming ground zero for the national Tea Party movement as emboldened activists flock from Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York in hopes of helping Scott Brown’s meteoric campaign close the deal in the race for U.S. Senate.

“If Brown wins this election, it will be the shot heard around the world,” said Rhode Island Tea Party President Colleen Conley. “This will be a clear indictment of the Obama presidency and the Democratic Congress overreaching.”

Activists from several states are volunteering to rally, donate and make phone calls.

Rhode Island Tea Party members will spend their weekend in the Bay State campaigning for Brown

Tea Party members from Montana, Texas and Georgia have been flooding The Greater Boston Tea Party and the Plymouth Rock Tea Party with calls, representatives told the Herald. Activists also are emptying their wallets, with the Sacramento, Calif.-based Tea Party Express having spent contributions on ad buys for Brown, said spokesman Levi Russell.

Connecticut state coordinator Tanya Bachand said, “Anything we can do to stop the health-care bill in Washington is what we’re really aimed at.”

Michigan’s Jeffrey McQueen, founder of USRevolution2.com, which produces a modified American flag [shown below] that’s become a symbol of the Tea Party movement, said a Brown win “would send earthquake tremors through the Democratic Party.”

Outstanding. It’s the People’s seat, and The People are speaking up. And maybe Massachusetts, home of revolution, is waking up. Stay tuned. The election is Tuesday.

A number of words about Switzerland from the Conservative Voice of Europe

I was led to this site via Europe News.
The guy writes exceptionally well BUT .... I know it’s a serious subject and I do find it interesting except it’s so darn long.  So I haven’t posted all of it here.  In fact, I can’t read all this at one sitting on line and am going to print it out. But what I have read is well worth my trouble.  I think you will be interested in what he has to say as well.

The site is The Brussels Journal, which calls itself the Conservative Voice of Europe.

BRUSSELS JOURNAL

SWITZERLAND: THE GOVERNMENT -VS- THE PEOPLE

Brussels Journal 3 December 2009
By George Handlery

George Handlery about the week that was. Even in small countries, major trends can unfold early. About noble leaders and their reluctant peons that refuse to follow.

International protest and its use to the tottering local leadership. Security, fear and freedom. Radicalization as a face saving device. Immigration then and now. Imported prejudices, failure and the allegation of discrimination.

1. Small country, major issue. Normally, Switzerland is not of much interest to the international reader. Already by standing falsely accused of having invented the cuckoo clock, she is automatically downgraded. The neglect can also be attributed to her size, a functioning system – a juicy crisis brings attention.

Not being on the map is also the consequence of her ability to keep out of armed conflicts. Switzerland did not even need to be liberated in WW2! Some myths shatter on Swiss reality.

Effective armed neutrality invalidates a peacenik thesis that arms lead to war. Per capita Tell’s land has a huge army – 600,000 in WW2 out of 4.5 million. Reflecting her industrialization and armament industry, it is largely self sufficient and excellently equipped to exploit the best defense positions nature can provide.

Complete the achievements with Switzerland‘s top rating regarding the quality of life and the top earned per capita GDP coupled to being a leading financial center. In the case of a landlocked and no-resources country, this should not be the case. Besides bank secrecy – which is a settled issue and gone by now – Switzerland is currently getting perplexed attention because of the consequence of her direct democracy.

On a regular basis, the unique system enables the people to perform executive functions. The voter can make laws and invalidate legislative action. Therefore, if you want to know what the “people” want, then you might find out by consulting the results of the numerous referendums and initiatives. The people’s uncensored voice expressing its real opinion is a good indicator of what comparable societies would say if they would be able to speak up.

The latest, and internationally widely commented, Swiss initiative forbade the erection of further minarets. Expressly not effected are existing structures and new temples as well as the exercise of any religion.

image

To the surprise of all, the initiative passed in what is rated here as a landslide. The decision went against the will of the executive, the legislature, all but one of the political parties, the churches, the economic and social elites, “business,” the media and, belatedly, the Vatican. Why “surprise”? Opinion surveys predicted rejection. That teaches us right away something about surveys in general.

People give PC responses to surveyors who are themselves PC. This is what makes surveys into useful weapons in the hands of those who can afford them. More important is another insight. It suggests that the governments, parliaments and the elites of western democracies might not quite express the will of those they claim to represent.

Additionally, thanks to the media control of the political class, real public opinion does not always equal what little people are made to think by pundits that have the power to determine what proper views must be.

Now, “the day after”, Europe’s governments and institutions condemn the vote’s result and the voters who “committed” the outrage. Amnesty International finds that the Swiss voted “against religious freedom”. “Scandalized” France’s Foreign Minister bemoans the same – while his government forbids burqas. Those veils express in textile what the minarets say in stone.

(Oddly, with eight times the population, France has 5 minarets and 500 mosques while Switzerland has four minarets.) Indeed, governments and the governing elite’s shock and outrage might have a simple reason. It flows not from principle but reflects interest. They attack the frightening precedent created by the Swiss because the political classes fear their own peoples. Just take a fresh opinion survey from Germany. There 70% (sound too high to the writer) of the “barefooted” would vote – if their system would let them – the way the Swiss have.

GOOD TO KNOW: THE FINAL CHAPTER IS NOT YET WRITTEN

The defeated leadership chides the voters about their mistake. In addition, the disavowed local political class tries to assert itself against its recalcitrant people. One way to do that is to encourage international pressure to demand that the new law not be implemented. The minaret-builders are not idle either. Emboldened by the angered local elite, they will ultimately turn to international courts – such as the one that forbade the display of crosses in Italian schools – demanding that religious freedom be protected. Naturally, that bold and principled pronouncement will limit itself to Switzerland as representing Europe. So as to avoid insult, the decision will ignore Middle Eastern states or Taliban ruled areas.

2. A sign of the times. A friend has submitted a letter to the editor. Without mentioning the minarets, the note raises questions regarding demonstrators that protested the vote’s result. He was advised that, in the interest of his own safety and the careers of his children (one is married to a Muslim), he should desist. While the fears moving him seem to be exaggerated, the man wrote to the paper requesting that his submission not be published.

It is not conceivable that, had he supported the after-the-fact demonstrations or “minarets for all”, anyone would have discovered a risk implied by turning to the Editor. The case suggests two points to be made here. 1. Without security there is no freedom. 2. Fear cancels out liberty.

may as well laugh at it

A Harley biker is riding by the zoo in Washington , DC when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion’s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.

The biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event.

The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, ‘Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I’ve seen a man do in my whole life.’

The Harley rider replies, ‘Why, it was nothing, really. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt was right.’

The reporter says, ‘Well, I’ll make sure this won’t go unnoticed. I’m a journalist, you know, and tomorrow’s paper will have this story on the front page… So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?’

The biker replies, ‘I’m a U.S. Marine and a Republican.’ The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

U.S. MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH

thanks to Rich K !
