Wardrobe Malfunctions

March Madness comes down to the final four not just in basketball.

If you follow the gossip pages, Hollywood, or the world of the fashionistas, surely you’ve heard of the blog GFY. Go Fug Yourself. Lots of pics, lots of snark, and never ending coverage of the absurdly dressed rich and famous. “Fug” means “Effin ugly”, a couture ensemble that’s so bad it becomes newsworthy.

Every year there is a competition. Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s teh fugliest of them all?

This year was a major surprise, as reigning fug queen Bai Ling was beat out in the semi-finals by singer Rhianna, while on the other side of the pyramid major fug contender Lady Gaga went down in a landslide to Kanye West’s arm candy/human pit bull/space alien Amber Rose.

So now it’s down to Amber vs. Rihanna. Get your votes in today.

This kind of thing is so meaningless. But it’s fun. I’d had my bets on perennial favorite fruit loop Bai Ling, but she lost badly, simply because she wasn’t trying very hard this year at all. You can’t take fug for granted; girl, you has to own it!

Go and vote, and be aghast at the amazingly awful outfits.



In other completely unrelated news, Russel Crowe has a Robin Hood movie coming out next month. Directed by the same guy who did Gladiator, Ridley Scott, it’s sure to be a gritty festival of Dark Ages gore, with lots of arrows, spears, and general chopping off of bits. Plus Cate Blanchett as Marian. Sounds like a plan to me!

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
