The Obama Conspiracy

The Chicago Tribune started it when they followed him to Africa and while doing so flattered him, adored him, promoted him and did their best to push him into the limelight. Follow the Tribune as they try to convince you what a humble, intelligent, nice young man Obama is and how much he feels your pain.

Then the Washington Post jumped in, helping Obama promote his new book, “The Audicity Of Hope” (which has nothing to do with Hope, Arkansas - or does it?). The Post obviously fell in love with Obama, calling him a “rising star” and a “magnetic speaker who delivers original phrases in composed yet passionate tones” and concludes by saying he “articulates a mode of liberalism that sounds both highly pragmatic and deeply moral”. Obviously, according to the Post, Obama can do no wrong and is fully capable of walking on water and raising the dead.

Then TIME magazine came along this week with a front-page cover story (that ran to over two dozen pages inside) entitled “The Fresh Face”. After reading this article, you would think Obama was the new Moses who can lead the Democrats out of evil Republican bondage and into the promised land of Washington. TIME compares his candor to John McCain and his empathy to Bill Clinton.  TIME also says the “white folks” just love him as a nurse proclaimed at one of his recent press-the-flesh events, “Oh, my God! Oh, my God! I just touched a future President! I can’t believe it!”.

Then Obama showed up on Larry King Live a few nights ago and King and his fans went wild over the new “Great Democratic Hope”. King’s introduction went like this, “Born to an exchange student from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, who split when he was two, Obama was raised in Hawaii and Indonesia. He managed to attend an elite prep school while his mom was on food stamps. He became the first African American president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review before entering politics where his diverse background is reflected in his inclusive vision.” For Liberals, you can’t get any more perfect than that, I suppose.

Finally, the New York Times chimed in on the Obama bandwagon with an editorial by David Brooks entitled “Run, Barak, Run” (subscription required) and the excited proclamation, “Whether you’re liberal or conservative, you should hope Senator Barack Obama runs for president.” He can cross party lines, leap tall buildings in a single bound and he’s faster than a speeding bullet.

Are you starting to get the picture yet? The next presidential election is two years away and the Liberal Rags Of Record are already flogging Obama’s case to the American people. It wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t so obvious and seemingly a concerted effort to plow the road for Obama to ride into the White House in 2008 on a white horse and packing silver bullets ready to take out those evil Conservatives. The only unanswered question is who will play the part of Tonto? Is Hillary already practicing how to say “Kemo Sabe”? That is the Sum Of All Fears ....

Sen. Obama Says He’s Weighing 2008 Run

Sen. Barack Obama acknowledged Sunday he was considering a run for president in 2008, backing off previous statements that he would not do so.

The Illinois Democrat said he could no longer stand by the statements he made after his 2004 election and earlier this year that he would serve a full six-year term in Congress. He said he would not make a decision until after the Nov. 7 elections.

“That was how I was thinking at that time,” said Obama, when asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about his previous statements.

“Given the responses that I’ve been getting over the last several months, I have thought about the possibility” although not with the seriousness or depth required, he said. “My main focus right now is in the ‘06. ... After November 7, I’ll sit down, I’ll sit down and consider, and if at some point I change my mind, I will make a public announcement and everybody will be able to go at me.”

Obama was largely unknown outside Illinois when he burst onto the national scene with a widely acclaimed address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

In recent weeks, his political stock has been rising as a potentially viable centrist candidate for president in 2008 after former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner announced earlier this month that he was bowing out of the race.

In a recent issue of Time magazine, Obama’s face fills the cover next to the headline, “Why Barack Obama Could Be The Next President.” He is currently on a tour promoting his latest book, “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.”

Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
