quick update on squatter story.  They were evicted but ....

Squatters evicted from home of doctor and pregnant wife invade plush new property just 300 yards away

The 14-strong gang left Dr Oliver Cockerell and his wife Kaltun’s new home in London this morning with their faces masked after the couple won a ‘common sense’ court ruling yesterday.

But it didn’t take them long to find a new place to occupy. They holed up in a basement flat down the road, despite it having security shutters up to stop squatters.

Housing Minister Grant Shapps applauded yesterday’s ruling. He said the Government was ‘looking to slam the door on so-called squatters’ rights’ and was

‘consulting’ on whether to make squatting a criminal offence.

And didn’t I sarcastically say a week ago that all the powers did was “consult” and “consult” again with nothing done in the end.  Brits just LOVE to “consult.”
And where only some 6 months ago some govt. leech said the law needed to be changed, this guy is suggesting they ‘consult’ to see if this activity is a crime.
Jeeze .... what’s in the water these schmucks are drinking?  The public outcry on this subject is not recent.  But the shit heads who could stop it in its tracks are busy ..... consulting.  When they aren’t busy fiddling expenses. 

Imagine coming home and finding 14 verminous louts in your home.  You’re out numbered and have no gun. Damn awful thought.

I feel I have to add this statement to this page even though I did it in the comments that follow. We get a lot of ppl passing through here from the states as well as other countries. Even on a personal note from friends back home, there seems to be little if any awareness as to how little authority the royal family has. Starting with the Queen herself.

On more then one occasion over the years, there have been times when some have mistaken the laws (or what passes for it) and the influence or authority of the royal family on the law.  The Queen may (who knows?) tell the PM privately that in her opinion something needs changing. But whatever govt. in power does not have to pay attention. They may be polite and follow custom, but are not necessarily influenced by any royal.  I’ve actually received personal mail from friends asking, after they read stuff like this, “why doesn’t the Queen do something?” The simple answer is, she can’t.

You can bet she would if that were possible.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot.
