not quite

Thought yesterday was going to be mine to do as I wanted. Ha. Not even close. Still too much stuff to accomplish around here.

Bah, and we got skunked again at Greed League. Had our first Position Round last night. Played the same team as last week, and they utterly creamed us. Me, who ought to be the low average bowler on my team, bowled the high game for our side for the night, and that one -222- was only a point above the other team’s low game. Crivens. Simply no way these guys should be anywhere near us in the standings, considering they’re all 225 or better bowlers when the situation demands it. We aren’t; this season it looks like we’re 190 bowlers at best.

Position Rounds suck. I hate them. You do a round robin rotation, then you have a PR week. Problem is, when the league is small you have PR constantly. This league has 8 teams. Which means the rotation lasts only 7 weeks. And we have a 33 week season, with the last 2 weeks set aside for ... you guessed it, Position Rounds, although they call those the semi-finals and finals. So it looks like we’ll have - 31/7 = 4R3 - 4 Position Rounds during the regular season, which, given how quickly the standings stratify, implies we’ll play this same team up to 8 times more. Gak. This is just plain stupid when the league is small. IMO, if your league is small enough so that you get 3 or more rotations, forget PR altogether. Hell, I wouldn’t even bother with semi-finals or finals, unless they were real, like in normal sports. They aren’t real in bowling, they’re just a match up. Whoever comes out with more total points earned for the entire season is the one who gets the higher place. So why bother? Just do the rotation and call it done.

OK, time to flip the bacon, reheat the coffee, and see what’s in the news. Oh boy, another day of the DC Follies ... and I’m sure it’s all the Tea Party’s fault.

More outstanding work by DougM over at Sondra K’s blog ... this ought to be the official symbol for the Tea Party.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
