Made It

Made it to the shore and back, weather was hot and dry, great weekend. I got introduced to cornholem, playing for the first time and spent plenty of time beer drinking, with occasional dips in the ocean. Major rip tides this weekend due to storm surges; nobody drowned but plenty of swimmers were pulled out by the currents and had be rounded up and towed in via a land line. Not me, I didn’t go in past waist deep. Looks like neon pink and orange are this season’s bikini colors. Dayum ... “shore” can be distracting. And long hair is back in too. Oh just stick a fork in me, I’m done. :happy sigh:

I haven’t been on a fluffy sand beach in ages. Trying to walk in hot dry sand that you sink nearly a foot into is difficult and exhausting. Especially while carrying half a ton of crap. And forget about trying to get in or out of one of these cut down beach chairs that are only 4” off the sand. No way. Give me a real chair or I’ll be stuck all day. My center of gravity seems to have shifted towards the middle as the years have gone by.

Went out dancing and drinking Saturday and stayed out until they closed the place. That’s after stopping off at two neighbor’s parties, and playing more cornhole in their backyards. Haven’t stayed till closing time at a bar in half a lifetime. Great band, place was packed, hot and sweaty, everyone covered with spilled beer. Shower time at 3am!! And of course the bar had it’s own illuminated cornhole courts. It’s ubiquitous!

Left mid-afternoon to beat the rush and then spent 2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic 6 lanes wide. But hey, we were moving, sometimes as fast as 25mph. Welcome to weekend beach traffic, Jersey style. I heard that later on traffic got heavy. Good news is, the Express Lanes folks had it just as bad as we did. Har har. Apparently you can’t use the Express Lanes unless you knuckle under and buy the EZ Pass automatic toll payer/car tracker thing the government sells. No thanks. We’d only use it a couple times per year. I’ll take my freedom instead thank you.

Work done, zoom. Fast trip to the grocery store, threw some chicken on the grill, taters and gravy. Good eats, now good night. Wake me when it’s Monday.

Oh ship, today’s Monday!! Made it to my new job with seconds to spare. Sat around and got paid for it. Sweet. The first hour went by quickly, learning where everything was, and sweeping the place out and all. Right, that took care of 50 minutes. Second hour dragged, but I talked a bit with the parents who drove their little angels to the school bus stop right there, and hung around until they were all safely on the bus for the 2.5 mile ride down the street and around the corner to the township elementary and middle schools. I was surprised school has started up already; it kicked off Thursday. Guess they get a longer year than we did. They certainly run later - 9 to 4, whereas we went 7:45 to 3. Right. Back to sweeping. Let’s knock some spider webs off the outside of the shack. Crivens, that was a little hornet’s nest, not a spiderweb. Run!!

Must remember to bring an AA battery and a can of bee spray to my guard shack tomorrow. And start looking around for a cheap folding lawn chair.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
