Heinous Murder Trial Underway
The trial began earlier this week for Mona Yvette Nelson, accused of killing Jonathon Foster. Foster was killed on Christmas Eve, 2010.
The trial is in Texas, in front of a judge. By the defendant’s own wishes. No jury. It is expected to last about two weeks.
Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty.
The case is not getting much media attention. Which figures, because if the races of the deceased and his accused were reversed, this story would be 100 times bigger than the Trayvon thing. 1000 times.
And the rest of the story is simply too gruesome to tell here above the fold.
This is the most perverse hate crime you’ve ever never heard of. Which is why it isn’t being called a hate crime at all.
Mona Nelson is a boxer and a welder. She has a significant violent crime record and has served years in jail. She’s Black.
Jonathon Foster was a 12 year old White kid.
His parents were no longer together. His mother had to leave him home alone for a couple hours to go to work. He disappeared from his mother’s apartment that day after a strange phone call received at her job sent her rushing home to look for the child.
According to information read at a probable cause hearing, Davis then received a phone call from a woman who made threatening remarks about her son. Concerned, Davis said she called her home phone repeatedly as she drove there.
She said an unknown woman finally answered around 2 p.m. – just minutes before she made it back to the apartment.
Davis said she asked the woman if she could speak to Foster.
Davis said she heard a woman ask her son, “Is your mama’s name Angela?” And then heard Foster say, “Yes ma’am, my mama’s name is Angela,” before the line went dead.
When Davis got to the apartment moments later, she said cartoons were still on the TV, and a game was up on the computer screen.
But when she called for her son, she got no answer.
Investigators now feel that he was dead within a few short hours of his going missing. But at the time an Amber Alert went out and no one could find him for several days.
CCTV on a building a few miles away showed a woman in a pickup truck dumping a large plastic bag in a ditch. Police were quickly able to trace that truck back to Ms. Nelson, who admitted dumping the bag but claimed to not know its contents.
Jonathon’s body was in that bag, bound and burned beyond recognition by intense heat. Police searched Nelson’s home and found a severely burned spot on the carpet, with cutting torches nearby. It is not clearly known whether the boy was burned to death as torture, or whether he was killed first and then burned. I can find just one single reference to a subscription-only news article that says he was tortured. Burned alive. I can find just one single reference to the autopsy report that says there were no other signs of injury that would be a cause of death. I can find just one reference to a line on that autopsy report that says that the coroner did not find soot in his lungs, thus he was probably dead before his body was profaned with the welding gear. Guess they’ve never heard of a dust mask, or duct tape, or a plastic bag. Or wondered how long it would take a child to die when worked over with a 4000° cutting flame.
Since then, every media outlet that has even mentioned the story has said that he was killed and then burned. But that wasn’t how they told the story in the beginning.
Black female kidnaps and murders 12 year old white child with torch
Homicide investigators said a welding torch is the likely weapon used in 12-year-old Jonathan Foster’s death, Local 2 Investigates reported Friday.
“We’re talking crematorium-type of hot,” said one Houston Police Department Homicide Squad officer assigned to the investigation.Police said they confiscated a badly burned section of carpet from the home of Mona Yvette Nelson, 44, who stands charged with capital murder. She had a welding background and police found welding equipment in her home on Allwood Street in the Fifth Ward area of Northeast Houston. Police said a section of carpet was badly burned and the smell of a human body filled the area around that carpet.
DNA tests are being ordered to analyze any bodily fluids. One investigator assigned to the case said it now appears Foster was killed at that spot in Nelson’s home within hours of being kidnapped from his family’s home
At the time of her arrest, she was also suspected of being a serial killer.
Mona Yvette Nelson, a 44-year old female welder by trade with a long list of criminal offenses that began somewhere around her 19th birthday, was charged with the capital murder of 12-year old fifth grader Jonathan Foster of Houston, Texas, where he was murdered and then burned in her own apartment with welding torches to an extent that the body was beyond recognition. According to Houston Police Deartment officials, she then transported the charred body in her truck where she dumped it in a ditch 3 miles away from where Foster resided for which a portion of the atrocious act was caught on a surveillance camera from the nearby Rolled Alloys facility.
The Houston Police Department homicide detectives are currently investigating whether Mona Yvette Nelson is a serial killer involved in the deaths of other children as they claim her to be a cold soulless and remorseless killer who “acted alone in this crime of her own disregard for human life.”
This is the 21 minute press conference the cops gave at the time. Crime hardened investigators saying it was the most brutal thing they’d ever seen. And that the suspect was a remorseless animal.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
