Google Problems
I have received several e-mails from people who are concerned about this blog site’s Google visibility. I finally decided to go take a look and see what all the fuss is about. Here is what I found:
- Google has apparently “de-listed” this blog site and removed references from it’s search engines.
- Google did not notify me of this change that seems to have occurred on or about Wednesday of last week. This indicates there was no egregious violation discovered by Google’s bots but came from somewhere else, possibly spam complaints, which anyone can file. Filing fraudulent spam reports is illegal.
- I have inquired at Google as to the reason for this “de-listing” but have received no reply as yet.
- I have run Google’s SpamCheck utility against the blog to determine if there are any violations of Google’s guidelines. There are none.
- All other search engines still list this blog so the problem is isolated to Google. Alexa, TTLB and Technorati are also unaffected.
- Google’s guidelines for webmasters is located here and this blog has violated absolutely none of them.
- In two and a half years of blogging here, this site has never spammed search engines, used hidden redirects, keyword spamming, hidden text or hidden links, e-mail spamming or attempted in any way to deprive you, our readers, of an enjoyable experience when you visit here.
- Finally, coming hot on the heels of the recent banning of five members here and their subsequent attacks on this blog in e-mails and at their web sites, I have a strong suspicion that this is just more of their spiteful attacks. If this turns out to be the case, several people are going to jail for fraud. If not, they have nothing to worry about. I will withhold judgement until I receive a report from Google. Stay tuned.
If you have any information about this, please let me know and contact Google at the following:
Google Inc.
1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
Mountain View, CA 94043
phone: (650) 253-0000
fax: (650) 253-0001
In addition, I am offering a $100 reward for any information regarding possible fraud on the part of anyone involved in this action.
Update: Some of you may have noticed the blog was offline in the last hour. No sweat. I was just doing a little maintenance work. There were no errors in our web pages or style sheets but there were a few warnings about nit-picking XHTML syntax. This couldnt’ cause Google to de-list but I wanted to make sure all the damn t’s were dotted and i’s crossed. You know what I mean.
Update II: Commenting is now fixed. Have at it!

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
- Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
- Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
