Blog Mods

Greetings, everyone! I apologize if you’ve seen a little strangeness on the blog here today. It has all been in a worthy cause, I assure you. I’ve been screwing up enhancing the site and at times the beast got away from me. Bear with me. I’m almost done (don’t anyone dare stick a fork in me to test that statement).

Of the two major modifications I have made today, one was done purely to set an example and the other was done to have a little fun. Altogether, I think that rounds out things a bit, don’t you? Anyway, here is the summary of what I done went and did (as dey say down on de bayou):

First of all, I decided to have a little fun and give you folks something to laugh at every day. I couldn’t think of a better example of that than Chris Muir’s really excellent social commentary comic strip ”Day By Day”. Fortunately for all of us, Chris freely distributes his comic strip to any blogger who wants to carry it. If you’ll look over in the right sidebar, you’ll see the new addition (right below the blogads - which is currently empty right now - argh!). Enjoy the adventures of Damon, Jan, Zed and Sam every day right here with your morning coffee and if you click on the strip, you can go to the Day By Day site and catch up on the current story line in the archives. SO have a good laugh and enjoy!

Secondly, I have decided to set an example for everyone (and one particular photography site in particular). I am hereby dropping almost all copyright claims on this site. From now on, this weblog is licensed under a Creative Commons License. I have chosen to reserve only the very basic rights to material on this weblog: the rights of attribution and non-commercial use. What that means, in simple terms, is that you may feel free to borrow or steal anything on this site including images and text with only two conditions: (1) attribute the source - in other words, if you use it elsewhere, you should say where you got it from. However, I make that optional, just so long as you don’t claim credit for it yourself, I don’t care whether you link back or not - you can drop me an e-mail to let me know you did it but that’s not required either; and (2) you may not use any of my stuff for commercial use without asking first - depending on how commercial you plan to use it, I’ll most likely allow that - but ask. In the very bottom of the right sidebar you’ll see this little message below:

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
