All Aboard!

UPDATE: this morning we add PurpleK and jackal40 to our ranks.

Jackal40 has a secret, which he may share in time. You may be able to figure it out from his comments. This should be fun.

PurpleK hasn’t mentioned any secrets ... but with that handle, hmm? Only things named purple K I’ve ever heard of are a specialty chemical for fighting burning metal fires, and some super potent dope bud that Old Cat Man would love to stuff his bong with. So maybe he does have a secret after all!

We’ve got a good handful of new members here in the past couple of months, so I’m taking a moment to introduce them and welcome them to the big BMEWS family.

May they take to commenting just as heartily as Al_in_Ottawa, another recent joiner who has put his oar in the water any number of times. Outstanding.

Until I can figure out how to have open comments without spam and without having to renew my subscription several times over to the blog engine (which means no Captcha for now), comments are limited to members who are logged in. To become a member, all you have to do is send me an email saying that you want to be one, along with your choice of sign-in name, screen name, and password. And I’ll get you registered pretty quick. My email address is on the right sidebar. I don’t do a damn thing with your membership information. I don’t sell it, loan it, or even let anyone else look at it. The only things I ask are that you a) not use a pornographic screen name, and b) provide me with a real email address. Peiper and I have quite a bit of email interaction with a number of the members sometimes, and we can’t converse if we can’t contact you. Membership applications with dummy email addresses will be deleted.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:

1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
