Ok I know things can get pretty stupid here, but I’m not certain if they can get more idiotic and waste more txpayer money then this.
On second thought, yeah. They have come up with stuff somewhat dumber. But this really does rank very high in the DOH awards list.
And if the mayor (who hasn’t read it yet) thinks it may have value, then he’s smoking smoking funny or maybe having just one glass too much.
A 93-page guide on how to ride a bicycle – including advice on the need to carry out a risk assessment before removing one’s helmet - has been drawn up for Britain’s police forces.

The two-volume tome offers lengthy guidance to constables on skills that most children have mastered by the age of 12, such as how to maintain balance at corners.It even reminds officers that they must not attempt to detain suspects while in the saddle – or “engaged with the cycle” in the words of its authors.
The Police Cycle Training Doctrine was drawn up by biking enthusiasts in forces across England and Wales and submitted for the approval of the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo), but its officials yesterday distanced themselves from the contents.Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London and a passionate cyclist, led the chorus of derision, saying that while the guide’s advice was “very, very sound”, it did not represent value for money. Thousands of pounds were reportedly spent putting the full colour publication together.
“I am sure it is of great value, I haven’t seen it, but I think you can do this kind of thing much, much more cheaply,” Mr Johnson said.
The mayor has already proved himself a master of mobile crime fighting, dismounting from his bike to save a filmmaker from attack by a hooded gang in the capital earlier this month.
Officers from the police’s national working group for cycling training, which wrote the book, declined to comment. But independent bike safety experts said there was no need for police to devise their own basic training guide.
“I would like to remind Acpo that the national standard for cycle training covers all the basics of cycling skills and road sense,” said Greg Woodford of CTC, the national cyclists’ organisation.“I’d recommend all police cyclists pass their level three [cycling test] and encourage Acpo to work alongside what has already been developed.”
Mark Wallace of the TaxPayers’ Alliance campaign group added: “This guide is an absurd waste of police time and taxpayers’ money. Police officers are perfectly capable of riding a bike.”An Acpo spokesman insisted that the doctrine was never intended to become official policy, and would not be issued to rank-and-file officers.
“This work was neither requested nor drawn up by Acpo and we do not endorse it,” she said.

Beautician turns lawyer to win David and Goliath High Court battle with construction giant

Georgina Blackwell took on Belway Construction over a right of access dispute at the High Court and won
Georgina Blackwell makes an unlikely candidate to stand up in front of a judge and take on seasoned lawyers in the High Court.
As she herself points out, she’s a young, blonde beautician from Essex.
But when her mother’s home and business were put at risk in an access dispute with one of the country’s biggest homebuilders, the 23-year-old decided she had to fight back.
The court battle revolved around a Grade II listed former school her mother had bought in Halstead, Essex.
Ranged against her was Bellway Homes, one of the country’s biggest developers. It wanted to convert land it had bought next door into luxury homes.
But Miss Blackwell emerged triumphant from her confrontation with the developers’ legal team.
Not only did she manage to overturn a previous High Court judgment, she also won her mother £75,000 compensation.
‘I’m a blonde, 23-year-old beautician from Essex,’ she said. ‘I know it doesn’t look good on paper, but I think they underestimated me.
‘I felt scared stiff by the huge courtroom and speaking in front of a High Court judge but I got a surge of adrenaline and thought “They aren’t going to intimidate me”.
‘I opened the case, gave evidence, and cross-examined their solicitor. When the judgment was read out it was fantastic. I wanted to jump up and down.
‘Bellway’s legal team sat there with no expressions, heads down. The barrister came over and congratulated me. He said I had put up a good fight.
My mum was going to lose her business and her home and that gave me the courage to stand up and be counted.’
Her mother Sandra, 52, bought the 600-year-old former school in 2003 to open a salon called The House of Beauty.
Bellway later bought an empty factory which backs on to the garden to build 43 homes.
It believed it had a right of access to cross Mrs Blackwell’s small garden, which it needed to demolish two of the factory walls. When she refused access, Bellway took her to court.
She lost the case in July and was ordered to pay Bellway’s legal costs of £22,000 and a ‘five-figure’ sum in damages. The firm put scaffolding in the garden and began demolition.
Miss Blackwell - who was offered a place to study law at Kingston University in South-West London when she was 17 but started working in the salon when her mother broke her wrist - said: ‘Our garden has three walls.

One of them divides us from a neighbour and the other two are where they built the factory.
‘Never in a million years did we think we would be put in a position where someone would demand access, fill the garden with scaffolding, destroy the plants, cover the house with dust, and disrupt our business.’
After hearing it would cost £5,000 for a barrister to take a fresh look at the case, Miss Blackwell decided to take it up herself.
She checked the deeds to the house and discovered that the right of access was to only one of the factory walls.
She took the case back to the High Court and on Tuesday Mrs Justice Proudman ruled in Mrs Blackwell’s favour and told Bellway to pay compensation.
Georgina with mother Sandra whose home and business were put at risk when Bellway Homes wanted to cross her landMiss Blackwell added: ‘It’s such a massive weight off our shoulders now we know we are not facing bankruptcy. We stood up for our rights and won.
‘I always wanted to be a barrister and over the past couple of days I have been looking at university places again.’
Miss Blackwell attended a nearby comprehensive, where she passed 11 GCSEs and three A-levels. Describing how she had to turn down the university place in 2004, she said: ‘I wanted to get my degree so much, but I felt it was important to be there for my mum.’
Bellway said: ‘We do not wish to discuss the case.’

Dirty Election?
ZERO votes reported for Hoffman in 3 polling places yet he took 45% of “final” tally, recount shows Hoffman ahead by 1700+ votes in Oswego county

Unless Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman got exactly zero votes in the town of Fenner (Owens got 157, Scozzafava got 248), and at one polling place in the town of Hamilton (Owens got 75, Scozzafava got 79), and at one polling place in the town of Sullivan (Owens got 173, Scozzafava got 251), the initial vote totals look rather hinky.
By comparison, the lowest number of votes that Owens got at any polling place was 57; the lowest number the withdrawn candidate Scozzafava got was 2. It’s not impossible that no one in any of those places chose to vote for Hoffman, but it certainly seems unusual for a guy who got 45 percent district-wide.
Washington—Conservative Doug Hoffman conceded the race in the 23rd Congressional District last week after receiving two pieces of grim news for his campaign: He was down 5,335 votes with 93 percent of the vote counted on election night, and he had barely won his stronghold in Oswego County.
As it turns out, neither was true.
But Hoffman’s concession—based on snafus in Oswego County and elsewhere that left his vote undercounted—set off a chain of events that echoed all the way to Washington, D.C., and helped secure passage of a historic health care reform bill.
… a recanvassing in the 11-county district shows that Owens’ lead has narrowed to 3,026 votes over Hoffman, 66,698 to 63,672, according to the latest unofficial results from the state Board of Elections.
In Oswego County, where Hoffman was reported to lead by only 500 votes with 93 percent of the vote counted election night, inspectors found Hoffman actually won by 1,748 votes—12,748 to 11,000.
The new vote totals mean the race will be decided by absentee ballots, of which about 10,200 were distributed, said John Conklin, communications director for the state Board of Elections.
Under a new law in New York that extended deadlines, military and overseas ballots received by this coming Monday (and postmarked by Nov. 2) will be counted. Standard absentee ballots had to be returned this past Monday.
Conklin said the state sent a letter to the House Clerk last week explaining that no winner had been determined in the 23rd District, and therefore the state had not certified the election. But the letter noted that Owens still led by about 3,000 votes, and that the special election was not contested—two factors that legally allowed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to swear in Owens on Friday.
So now it’s down to counting the absentee ballots. And NY’s 23rd district covers the huge Army base at Fort Drum. How many (D) votes do you think they’ll turn in? 7, maybe 8?
[Hoffman campaign spokesman Robert] Ryan said an important factor in [Hoffman’s] decision to concede was the unexpected—and erroneous—close vote in Oswego County, where polls had Hoffman with a double digit percentage point lead heading into Election Day.
“That’s the thing that threw us off,” Ryan said.
Oswego County elections officials blame the mistakes on “chaos” in their call-in center that included a phone system foul-up and inspectors who read numbers incorrectly when phoning in results. Of 245 races in the county—not including the congressional and court races -- 84 had incorrect totals reported election night.
In the congressional race, more votes were cast in Oswego County than any other in the 11-county district.
The district’s second biggest voter turnout was in Jefferson County, where Hoffman also has benefited from a turnaround since election night, gaining about 700 votes. Owens led Hoffman by 300 votes on the final election night tally. But after recanvassing, Hoffman now leads by 424 votes, 10,884 to 10,460.
Jerry Eaton, the Republican elections commissioner for Jefferson County, said inspectors found a problem in four districts where Hoffman’s vote total was mistakenly entered as zero.
“Hoffman definitely gained votes where he didn’t have them,” Eaton said.
Jefferson County, home of Fort Drum and the Army’s 10th Mountain Division, distributed 2,299 absentee ballots for the special election. As of this week, 1,303 had been returned but not counted, Eaton said. He said the county will begin counting the absentee ballots early next week.

Conklin, of the state Board of Elections, said officials did not have updated absentee ballot totals from the other counties.
Aye Carumba! What is wrong with these people? They KNEW the whole damn country was watching them, yet they miscounted more than a third of the votes? WTF people, WTF? And it’s not like far upstate New York is an urban metropolis. It’s mostly FOREST. There are more lakes up there than there are people, just about. Only one polling point turned in more than 450 votes. Most of the rest were below 400. How can you mess that up? How can the microscopic little town of Hamilton count 154 votes and miss all the votes for Hoffman?
And of course, the bigger picture: Owens was rushed into office, and mere hours later cast what could be seen as the majority vote for Obamacare. Which led that self-centered little “Republican” twit from NOLA to cast his vote for it, which allowed the BS bill to pass.
PS - The other thing that stinks to high heaven is the fact that the absentee ballots have not all been counted yet. There were at most 11,000 of them sent out, which means maybe 7000-8000 of them were returned. Spread out over 11 counties. Less than 730 per county, on average. And election day was 9 days ago. Even allowing for a November 2nd postmark ... the vast majority of them should have been in no later than the 9th. Which means they should have been fully tallied and re-tallied by now. And the re-count numbers updated. Once again it looks like we have an election that is starting to look dirty because the election workers are stupid and lazy. And possibly dirty too. But at least do your friggin’ job for cryin’ out loud! Any one of us could count and tabulate 750 ballots in under 2 hours.
PPS - It’s not probable that Hoffman will win, even with all the absentee votes counted. But until the votes have been counted and enough of the absentee votes counted, past the point where he could win, then it was morally wrong - “legal” takes a back seat here - for Owens to take the oath. Especially if NY state has not yet certified him. The word “usurpation” comes to mind.

23 foot diameter Asteroid passes just 8,700miles from Earth - we had only 15 hours warning
Although no one noticed at the time, the Earth was almost hit by an asteroid last Friday.
The previously undiscovered asteroid came within 8,700miles of Earth but astronomers noticed it only 15 hours before it made its closest approach. Its orbit brought it 30 times nearer than the Moon, which is 250,000 miles away.
Nasa’s Near Earth Object Programme plotted the orbit of the object and determined that although it would fly extremely close to our planet it wouldn’t hit us.
It was the third-closest known (non-impacting) Earth approach on record for a cataloged asteroid.
The Nasa NEO programme aims to detect and track at least 90 per cent of the 1,000 asteroids and comets that approach Earth and are larger than 0.6miles in diameter, by 2020.
They monitored a 100ft asteroid that whizzed 45,000 miles above the Earth’s surface on March 2 this year. A similar sized object slammed into Tunguska, Siberia in 1908. The impact created a blast so powerful it levelled 1,200 square miles of forest.
Astronomers believe the object, called 2009 VA, would have almost completely burned up while entering Earth’s atmosphere, causing a brilliant fireball in the sky but no major damage to the surface.

We know absolutely no one in Bush family circles and have never met former President George W. Bush or his wife Laura.
If you have been reading us for any length of time, you know that we used to make fun of “Dubya” nearly every day…parroting the same comedic bits we heard in our Democrat circles, where Bush is still, to this day, lampooned as a chimp, a bumbling idiot, and a poor, clumsy public speaker.
Oh, how we RAILED against Bush in 2000…and how we RAILED against the surge in support Bush received post-9/11 when he went to Ground Zero and stood there with his bullhorn in the ruins on that hideous day.
We were convinced that ANYONE who was president would have done what Bush did, and would have set that right tone of leadership in the wake of that disaster. President Gore, President Perot, President Nader, you name it. ANYONE, we assumed, would have filled that role perfectly.
Well, we told you before how much the current president, Dr. Utopia, made us realize just how wrong we were about Bush. We shudder to think what Dr. Utopia would have done post-9/11. He would have not gone there with a bullhorn and struck that right tone. More likely than not, he would have been his usual fey, apologetic self and waxed professorially about how evil America is and how justified Muslims are for attacking us, with a sidebar on how good the attacks were because they would humble us.
Honestly, we don’t think President Gore would have been much better that day. The world needed George W. Bush, his bullhorn, and his indominable spirit that day…and we will forever be grateful to this man for that.
As we will always be grateful for what George and Laura Bush did this week, with no media attention, when they very quietly went to Ft. Hood and met personally with the families of the victims of this terrorist attack.
FOR HOURS.
No kidding. Gosh, a few more years and they’ll have him up there with Reagan. Thanks Obama, you’ve given even the far left a bit of perspective.

Gay Democrats can be a room full of bitchy, malevolent queens, martinis in hand, oblivious to how petty and unattractive hatred of any kind truly is.
And this from supporters of “The One” who was sent to Earth by a God none of them believe in to bring us all together, heal the planet, and distribute unto us unicorns in fluffy rainbow parades of lemonade and pixie dust.
At that point, such a point could have been a bit of weepy drama. But the top post linked here is a real awakening.

Mother caught feeding ducks fined £75 for littering (but warden says her toddler son can as he’s too young for a ticket)

Vanessa Kelly had taken 17-month-old Harry on his weekly visit to the to feed ducks when she was approached by a council warden.
She put away the bread as soon as the warden told her duck feeding was not allowed in the park, in Smethwick, Birmingham.
A mother has been fined £75 for littering after she was caught feeding the ducks with her toddler sonBut the warden pulled out a hand-held computer and issued her with a fine for littering.
Miss Kelly, who was in Smethwick Hall Park at 4pm on Tuesday, claims she was then told by the warden that her son could carry on throwing the bread ‘as he is too young to prosecute’.
She said: ‘I had Harry on my hip and a bag of bread in my hand and we were both throwing crumbs to the ducks as the warden approached.
‘I didn¹t think anything of it and certainly didn’t think we were doing anything wrong, which is why I was surprised when she stopped me.
‘She explained that it was banned because it could attract vermin, and I said it was fair enough and fastened the bag. I couldn¹t believe my eyes when she then pulled out a little computer and started to issue a ticket.
‘To be fined £75 for taking your child to feed the ducks is an absolute disgrace. I will be fighting this fine all the way.’
The 26-year-old, from Oldbury, Birmingham, said that although there was a sign in the park warning of the dangers of ‘overfeeding’ the birds there were no signs warning that people could be fined.
Sandwell Council today defended handing out the fine to Miss Kelly for dropping bread, claiming it attracts rats.
Miss Kelly has now made an official complaint to the authority.

Permalink • IT’S ALWAYS THE LITTLE THINGS THAT REMIND ME WHY I MISS THE USA SO MUCH.
The longer I’m here the more I miss the USA.
Meanwhile ... damn it ... I’m here at the desk facing the front window. I can’t see the construction next door from here, but can hear one of the crew. He’s a whistler. One of those tuneless make it up as we go along jerks.
What is it with IDIOT WHISTLERS who think they are sharing some sort of talent by doing that, but not any particular tune anyone might recognize?
Just a series of very annoying sound effects. I often wonder when I hear no talent schmucks like that; what exactly are they hearing?
Our dryer which is only a year and a half old, is on the fritz. Even from the beginning it was always a poorly designed piece of crap. Of course the years guarantee was up 6 months ago. No wait. Make that 7. The damn start button keeps getting stuck. And that isn’t all.
It’s a BEKO. We also have their washer.
BEKO is shit ppl and I wouldn’t recommend that product to an enemy. OK, maybe a muzzie. But nobody white.
Things are poorly designed here and I have to wonder what the makers are thinking. For example.
There’s a setting for delicate cycle and also a non wrinkle setting. Got it? Good. Now then, WTF is the point of all that when after the damn washer stops, the door remains locked for a full two minutes or more and things just sit there wet, and wrinkled. I want a washer like the one we had in the USA. Washer stops, open the damn door. Works every time, provided you live in America.
We have cycles that can run for two and a half hours. Sure, there’s a setting called Time Saver. Woo-Hoo. That one can save 45 minutes but sometimes you only need a quick wash and it shouldn’t be an hour.
I miss the machines we have back home in the USA. Set the dryer, it runs and things dry and you stop it whenever. The one we have that’s sort of planet friendly and computer driven. It TELLS ME what I should do. Has a light that comes on at different phases. Like for example, ready for ironing.
Oh good.
Before we bought a washer and a dryer over a year ago, we used to go across town to another village where there was a launderette.
ALL their EFFICIENT machines come from .... THE USA! I kid you not. But try and buy a USA machine for home use. HA! It’s the price of a car. Frankly, I’d have done it except the wife vetoed the idea saying, with perfect logic, that it might be a waste of a lot of money we didn’t have if we were leaving this place. And at the time, we had no idea when exactly that might be. And guess what?
WE STILL DON’T KNOW !

Burn forever you bastard.
As usual, thousands of other terrorists and terrorist enablers gathered to mark the event:

But the good news is that the old goat faced poxy freak got another rider on the white hot pitchfork permanently tearing open his colon, in the worthless soul of fellow deranged sicko John Allen Muhammad.
John Allen Muhammad, the mastermind behind the sniper attacks that left 10 dead, was executed as relatives of the victims watched, reliving the killing spree that terrorized the Washington, D.C., area for three weeks in October 2002.

Once again, had the Army not been hamstrung by political correctness, this never would have happened. Already court-martialed twice, in 1991 John Allen Williams attempted to frag 16 of his fellow soldiers with a thermite grenade. They all survived, but, by rights, the Army should have locked him up forever. They didn’t even bring charges.

So what we have here is some damn stupid weeny who got frightened by a man using one bad word. The infamous ‘F’ word.
And he’s arrested cos that word caused fear and stress? Yup. Seems so, according to this.
Hey .... if 1939 happened with this generation in charge of things, it would have been a cakewalk for the Germans. It would been all over by 1940 and the USA would perhaps only have been faced with Japan. And the Italians would still have exported pasta and Pizza only a few years earlier.
Tell ya what bothers me a lot though. I know a lot of very kind and decent people here who have shown me nothing but friendship and kindness.
I just mean to say there’s an awful lot of good folks here and they do not deserve what’s happening to their country. Some of the ppl I know are quite old and of that generation. How depressing for them. How depressing for all of us on both sides of the Atlantic.

Last updated at 6:49 AM on 11th November 2009A grandfather was arrested at dawn and held in a police cell for six hours for using a single swear-word in front of a council official.
Thomas Catcheside, 67, had his fingerprints and DNA taken, before being issued with an £80 fixed-penalty notice.
His arrest followed a dispute with a council official about ‘dangerously slippery’ communal stairs in his block of flats in Cambridge.
Mr Catcheside, who is chairman of his residents’ group, has been campaigning for three years for safety improvements.
But when an official visiting the site prevented him from listening to a phone call to his supervisor on October 30, he finally lost his temper and said: ‘Don’t you tell me what I can and can’t do in my own ****ing place.’
The official complained of feeling ‘threatened’ and six days later Mr Catcheside was arrested at 5.35am on suspicion of ‘causing harassment, alarm or distress in a public place’.
The former lorry driver, still in his dressing gown, was marched into his bedroom, where his wife Deborah, 62, was asleep, and ordered to get changed before being driven away in a police van.
He was then held in a windowless-cell for six hours before being given the fixed-penalty notice and released.
Mr Catcheside, who has asthma and high blood pressure, was so distressed that he suffered a panic attack and had to be seen by a police doctor.
He said: ‘My wife and I were asleep when the police arrived. I opened the door and they just barged in.‘I told them to wait a minute but they followed me into my bedroom where my wife was in bed. She was so embarrassed she hid behind a cushion.
‘I was frightened and angry as I felt like I was being criminalised. It was so heavy handed.
‘The police seem to have trouble catching proper criminals and here they were dragging me down to the station for defending my rights.
‘I admit I swore, but I was frustrated because we have been fighting to get these stairs improved for years, writing letter after letter, and the council has taken no notice.’
A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said they had been following ‘national policy’ in their response.
She added: ‘We were responding to reports of an assault, which is a serious offence.
‘The suspect was arrested at the earliest possible opportunity, which happened to be at 5.35am.
‘There was not enough evidence to suggest he had committed an assault but he admitted to being abusive and was issued with a fine and words of advice about his behaviour.’
Robert Hollingsworth of City Homes, a housing association which runs council housing for Cambridge council, said they had reported the incident to the police because their representative had felt ‘threatened’.
‘My department has been dealing with Mr Catcheside’s complaint for a long time,’ he said.
‘Despite the fact the stairs are not a danger and no risk has been found, we are looking into covering them with a plastic-like surface which would improve their appearance.’
Mr Catcheside replied: ‘We don’t want the steps to look better, we want them to be safe.’

Have to feel bad for Drew after reading his latest. What a hassle. I hope this isn’t inappropriate given his circumstances BUT ...
It is Drew’s Birthday today and I don’t think wishing him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY can do any harm.
Missed the snail mail.
Unfortunately, although I had the date written down and after all, it is Armistice Day here in the UK. How hard is that to remember? I didn’t send Drew a snail mail card. I remembered too late and what with the postal strike ..... So I’m making up for that by making a big deal out of it here on BMEWS.
I wanted to make things special to Drew and so ... from Fwance ....
None of you seeing this will know but. The guy who keeps BMEWS running 24/7, the guy who fixes all the glitches that can and will pop up, owes it all to me. Yup. Everything Drew knows about tech thingy stuff he learned cos of me.
That’s because he was forced to consult with many tech manuals in order to answer all the damn questions I keep throwing at him, answers which I couldn’t find but he did. And I still don’t understand most of it.
But enough blowing my own horn. This is Drew’s day and I understand he’s 39 again. I think that makes two years in a row now. Not a bad idea to find an age one likes and then stick to it.
I thought it might reasonable and not giving away any state secrets by listing a couple of Drew’s MAJOR interests in order of importance in case any of you would like to buy him a gift. Here’s some choices to consider.
Enough of this frivolity. Time for serious stuff. I am making a resolution for this day, November 11th. A resolution I fully intend to keep unless I happen to forget I made it and at my age that’s entirely possible. My resolution is to not ask Drew any tech questions on any day that falls on November 11th.
So then .... from me and I’m certain from all the folks at BMEWS .....

not a happy camper
You haven’t heard from me in a couple of days. With reason.
We’ve been trying to buy a house. We’ve been turned down by 2 banks already. Banks we’ve had accounts with for years. Not because we can’t afford the mortgage or make the down payment, but because we don’t have enough recent credit history. Apparently you can’t borrow money if you don’t owe anyone else any money, and aren’t in the habit of borrowing money. Living debt free and plastic free is the wrong way to go.
But, no worries, the real estate company has a financial arm. And they told us twice we were pre-approved! Twice! So we went with them. Fine, WTH, even though it cost us an extra 0.25%. But when the nitty met the gritty, 2 weeks out from closing, they’re on the phone with us saying we can’t give you a mortgage because when they run my wife’s credit score using her middle initial, they don’t get anything back. It doesn’t matter that they already have 2 credit reports on her, same SSN, but without that initial. Or that she has bank accounts and bill history both with and without that initial. Go figure.
So we’re doing what we can, but it doesn’t look good. Maybe we can get the power company, the landlord, the phone company to write us Good Faith letters, and with any luck in another 45 days they’ll make another decision, hopefully in our favor this time. Meanwhile the seller can just go stew. If this falls through we’ll be out a couple thou for the various fees and things.
Banks suck. There are no actual people with functional brains working in them. Merely computers and their unreasoning android masters. Personally, I feel that they don’t want to lend money to anyone, and now that the First Time Home Buyer’s Credit has been extended, they’re going to just sit back on their well padded and bailed out asses and chill.
UPDATE: The real estate finance people are full of shit. I just pulled my wife’s credit report, using her middle initial, and paid for a credit score thingy. And it came right up, from all 3 agencies. Why are they lying to us?
But we kicked hiney at bowling league Monday, taking all 7 against the 1st place team, which should knock them down at least 2 slots and bring us up 3 or more. The oil conditions were new, and they just couldn’t adapt. We suck anyway, so it was all the same to us. We had fun, they lost their minds. Mwaaahahahahaha!

I’ve had this in my inbox for a couple of days. Didn’t mean to ignore it and even though it may seem a rehash, actually it’s a pretty good read.
I don’t believe there’s a one of us here who would not agree.
Meanwhile, here counting hours till they wipe the stain of his miserable presence from the planet. Of course I’m referring to that dark skinned fellow known as the DC sniper. Notice how well I control myself and haven’t used the dreaded ‘N’ word yet. Even if that’s exactly what he happens to be.
I wish they’d only give the bastard enough to put him in a deep sleep, but then let him wake up in his coffin. Now that’d be justice. Won’t happen tho. Darn.

Nor it seems can the liberal mainstream media.I was watching BBC’s Newsnight when the story broke of a killing spree at a Texas military base and instantly wondered – as I’m sure did 99.99 per cent of its other viewers – whether this had anything to do with the Religion of Peace. Then a news update came in that the suspect’s name was ‘Hasan’. But the BBC’s reporter hastened to reassure us that there was “no evidence” to suggest this was an act of “terrorism”. Phew! Perish the unworthy thought.
Even today, the MSM is treading on eggshells regarding the killer’s possible motivation.
Here’s the Independent:
A motive for the shooting was hard to pin down last night. However, there were reports that Hasan, who was trained also in psychiatry and medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, was preparing for deployment to Iraq and was not happy to be going there. He had previously worked at the Walter Reed veterans hospital outside Washington.
Yeah, that would be it. You don’t want to be deployed to a combat zone so you do what any sane officer does under the circumstances. Not resign your commission obviously, but tool yourself up and take out a dozen a so of your unarmed comrades.
The BBC’s website takes a similar line, though it does at least (presumably in breach of all BBC guidelines) cheekily slip in the “M” word:
It is not clear what motivated the attacker, named as 39-year-old military psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan.
But some reports said the US-born Muslim was unhappy about being sent to Iraq or Afghanistan.
Interesting use of that word “unhappy”, mind.
The Guardian meanwhile, has a brave stab at the ‘trauma-crazed war vet goes tonto’ line, with the help of one of Hasan’s relatives:
One of Hasan’s cousins, Nader Hasan, told reporters the major was dreading going to war, having counselled scores of returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Next to the story, it provides a link to the story of another US veteran – Sergeant John Russell – who did just that, killing 5 of his comrades in May. Unfortunately, as it is forced to admit in a more detailed analysis, can’t have been traumatised by combat because, er….
He was not a soldier returning from deployment in either Iraq or Afghanistan, suffering from stress or combat fatigue. Hasan, although 39 years old, has never served in a war zone.
But that doesn’t stop the Guardian speculating desperately:
Instead, his horror of war came secondhand. He was a psychiatrist who listened to the harrowing stories of his comrades at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC, and latterly at Fort Hood, Texas.
Ah yes that will be it. A bit like passive smoking, the Major was suffering from passive combat stress.
My favourite example of liberal squeamishness, though, comes from the New York Times. Sure towards the bottom of its report, it manages to slip in such not-altogether-irrelevant details as Hasan’s former imam’s claim that he was “very serious about his religion” (so much so that he hadn’t been able to find a sufficiently fundamentalist wife) and that a man with the same name as him was under investigation from the FBI for putting up enthusiastic postings on a Jihadist website about the joys of suicide bombing.
But not before having first blamed those far more likely causes – white racism…
But Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the 39-year-old man accused of Thursday’s mass shooting at Fort Hood, Tex., began having second thoughts about a military career a few years ago after other soldiers harassed him for being a Muslim, he told relatives in Virginia.
And, yes, of course, that old favourite – passive combat stress:
Having counseled scores of returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder, first at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and more recently at Fort Hood, he knew all too well the terrifying realities of war, said a cousin, Nader Hasan. “He was mortified by the idea of having to deploy,” Mr. Hasan said. “He had people telling him on a daily basis the horrors they saw over there.”

Judging by the amounts of fines here, I guess we know where their priorities are re. law and order and dare I use the word, justice?
A MIGRANT worker who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old was fined just £20 - the day before the girl’s dad got a £50 parking ticket.
Rulanas Kochanauskas, 31, pounced on the youngster as she walked home across a footpath and groped her breasts.
The teenager ran home in tears and alerted her 40-year-old dad.
With the help of his daughter he tracked down Kochanauskas to a shopping centre, got him in a head lock and called cops.The migrant, thought to be Lithuanian, initially denied the assault but later admitted a charge of indecently touching a girl aged 13 in a sexual way without her consent.
An interpreter had to be hired when he appeared in court in Ludlow, Shrops.
But magistrates fined him £20 and ordered him to pay his victim £80 compensation. The girl’s dad was furious when next day he was given a £50 ticket for parking “inappropriately” at a supermarket.
The dad, who cannot be named to safeguard his daughter’s identity, said: “It’s a disgrace. I thought the least he’d get was a suspended sentence. It cost the court hundreds of pounds for an interpreter.”
I want to relate the following on the subject of priorities and justice. Just shows how twisted things get.
Regular readers here know about the drunk who was so plastered that he relieved himself on a war memorial a few weeks ago. He didn’t do it as an intended insult btw. He just hardly knew where in the hell he was. He only knew he had to pee and so he did. Well, he was caught on camera and it raised a storm here. People were understandably outraged and so they should be. The newspapers stayed on the story for several days fanning more public outrage and writing editorials and reprinting the photo. It was even the subject of radio panel shows that week. And what most missed because the focus was mostly on the war memorial and desecration of same, was that his drunkenness was part of a programed mass bar crawl, organized by Carnage,UK. Think about that.
And while you’re thinking about that ,,, and back on war memorial desecrations, please take a look at this.
All the work of vandals, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. War memorials are being desecrated by thieves and vandals at the rate of more than one a week. Figures released on the eve of Remembrance Sunday revealed how thugs are casually vandalising plaques, statues and stone crosses.
Since the country paused to commemorate the war dead in November last year, yobs have damaged at least 56 war memorials.
Well now, in answer to this outrage and it is exactly that, authorities are now calling for a jail term of up to ten years for this kind of behavior.
Ten years? I don’t think that’s enough but ok. Ten years it is. Ah but .... how about this, which is where I started this post except I got long winded.
PLEASE think about this along with all the above.
Recently, a drunk outta his skull ‘yoot’ attacked two women in broad daylight. He hit one of them so viciously that she has lost an eye. The doctors could not save it. Just another attack on a stranger by another stranger. Daily life here these days.
He’s being sent to jail, as you’d expect. BUT ... he got SIX YEARS. I am not in favor of vandals destroying property whether it’s private or public. I favor cutting off a hand in fact. But why is the desecration of a memorial worth ten years (and it is) but a woman’s eye is only worth six?
And you know damn well he will NOT do six years.
THUGS CAN DO THIS TO INNOCENT PEOPLE, YET ONLY GET A CAUTION!
In each case the victim was savagely beaten, bottled or even bitten.
But each attacker was let off with a slap on the wrist.
A TV probe to be shown next week reveals the scale on which offenders are being given cautions to unclog the courts - sparking accusations that it is justice on the cheap.
Last year 38,952 offenders received a caution for ABH - a charge that could carry a jail term of up to five years
Monday’s investigation highlights ex-air hostess Lauren Smith, who was battered at a party by a stranger who bit a chunk out of her arm.
Lauren, 25, said: “The police said it was ABH and I thought he’d go to prison. Then they told me he’d admitted everything and they were giving him a caution. I said, ‘It’s unacceptable. How can you give him a slap on the wrist?’”
John Guest, was beaten up in his own home - but his attacker got a conditional caution and was told to pay £200 compensation.
John said: “It cost more than £200 just to clean my carpets. It has left me feeling utterly disgusted.”
It was only when John’s case was reviewed by judges that the sentence was increased.
The Government insists cautions help unburden courts and free up cops to deal with more serious criminals.
Well then ... I guess these two aren’t thought to be “serious” enough. How much worse does it have to get?
