No Peace In Our Time

Ollie North says the Liberal appeasers in the Democratic party need to get a grip and face the undeniable fact that there is no peace in the Middle East, never has been and never will be if we give in to the terrorists’ demands and try to address their grievances by first pulling a “cut and run” from Iraq and also forcing Israel to quit beating up on Hezbollah.

As usual, he’s right on the money. There can be no “peace in our time” as Neville Chamberlain found out in 1939 unless we address the evil head-on. It’s either us or them. Somebody has to lose before it’s over. I’d prefer it be them. Then we might have peace ...

What They Want
By Oliver North
Friday, August 4, 2006

WASHINGTON, D.C.—“What do they want?” It’s a query we hear a lot these days. By “they,” of course, the questioner means the suicide bombers, the masked men in the videotape decapitating a hostage, the goose-stepping, black-clad legions parading with AK-47s. “They” call themselves Hamas, al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, the Muslim Brotherhood, Jamaat-Islamiyah, the Mahdi Army or any of a dozen other names for violent terror groups operating with impunity around the world.

Five years ago next month, “they” were al Qaeda—thrust onto center stage aboard four aircraft turned into deadly missiles. This past spring, “they” were Hamas terrorists, firing lethal Qassam rockets from Gaza into neighborhoods in southern Israel. This week, it’s Hezbollah—the Iranian-armed and directed movement in Lebanon that ignited the current round of violence in the Middle East.

Some of the “theys” are Sunni Muslim. Others are Shia. In most of the world they are theological adversaries—with a long sanguinary history of fratricide far bloodier than anything experienced in the Christian schism between Catholics and Protestants. In nearly every case, “they” have foundations in a local grievance, recruit followers by emphasizing perceived wrongs and have charismatic leaders who promote “martyrdom” as a means of making things right.

Regardless of origin—Sunni or Shia—“they” share critical common ground. They all despise Judeo-Christian values, institutions and individuals and are committed to “ridding” Islamic lands of Western “occupation.” They are all “non-state” entities—claiming independence of any government—but rely on support from radical Islamic entities awash in petro-dollars. All carry out attacks with ruthless brutality without regard for their victims. All regard Israel and America as abominations, share the aim of “liberating” Jerusalem and envision a caliphate that extends from Casablanca in the west to Indonesia in the east. This is “what they want.”

Unfortunately, in this era of shallow, “sound-bite” journalism and drive-by “action” coverage, these objectives—routinely specified in the writings, speeches and sermons of radical Islamic political leaders and clerics—are widely ignored by the masters of our mainstream media or dismissed as the ranting of fanatics with few followers. The consequence is a woefully uninformed public—and an electorate so ignorant of reality that western political leaders can promote simplistic solutions like this week’s calls for an immediate cease-fire, intensive diplomacy and the introduction of an international peacekeeping force leading to a negotiated end to the strife.

This theme, repeated in today’s newspapers, magazines, newscasts and political stump speeches, is a minor variation on the kind of thinking that succeeded so brilliantly with Adolf Hitler. He too had written and spoken widely of his aspirations for global domination and ethnic cleansing. Yet, even after he had re-armed and commenced fulfilling his twisted dreams of “purification” and expansion, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain was able to proclaim “peace for our time,” after returning from Munich in September 1938. Less than a year later, the Fuhrer plunged the world into a global conflagration. The willful ignorance of weak-willed democratic leaders bent on appeasing evil did not spare their populations then—nor will it today.

Those leading the call for the Israelis to cease their aggression in Lebanon and start immediate talks leading to a broader Middle East peace—all part of the lexicon today—need a healthy dose of reality. There is no “Middle East Peace” to keep.

One of our readers here found this at Powerline from YouTube. It’s got a good beat and a catchy tune as well as being funny as all get out. The Israelis are just having way too much fun ...

Odds And Ends

This is an open post. Talk about whatever you want today. I’m exhausted. I envy bloggers who are retired or have nothing to do but post crap on the internet. Some of us though have to work for a living. The last few weeks have been especially busy at work. These sixty-hour work weeks are starting to tell on this worn out old body.

Anyway, enough self-pity for one day. It’s time to get awake and get moving. Posting may be light this weekend as I intend to take a break and get out and about for a change. It’s August and the dog days of summer. News is slow. Everyone is resting up. Things are about to get real busy after Labor Day, I’m afraid.

The war in Lebanon is about to peak, Iran needs the crap slapped out of them, the mid-term elections are coming up in November. I need to contact Jim Talent’s campaign and start doing my part to help out. Talent has a tough opponent on his hands and we can’t afford to lose him from the Senate.

So have yourselves a great weekend. We’ll try to throw some crap out here to fill the void. In the meantime, get outside if you can. Enjoy the sun and summer. And ponder this thought if you will ....

Defense: Children can give consent

Phillip Distasio is a sick man. Very, very sick. But I have no sympathy for the admitted pedophile. Article is here.

Ohio Man Claims Right To Have Sex With Boys
Admitted Pedophile Says Children Can Consent

POSTED: 6:52 am EDT August 3, 2006

CLEVELAND—It was probably not a defense the court had heard before.

A suburban Cleveland man accused of sexually assaulting nine disabled boys told a judge Wednesday that his apartment was a religious sanctuary where smoking marijuana and having sex with children are sacred rituals protected by civil rights laws.

The admitted pedophile offered a surprising defense Wednesday to 74 charges of rape, drugs and pandering obscenity to minors.

I’m already surprised at the religious sanctuary defense.

Why Didn’t I Think Of That?

Who says American ingenuity and inventions are dead? Not me. There is always somebody out there in this land who suddenly has a “light bulb moment” and fortunes are made. HearthFalls, Inc. of Little Rock, Arkansas has come up with a unique idea that I wish I had thought of. Combine a fireplace with a waterfall. Ingenious! Now we’re talking real romantic setting. All it needs is a bearskin rug, a bottle of Dom Perignon Imperial Rose ($349) and Heidi Klum laying back on the rug wearing only a feather boa giving me a “come-hither” look. Sigh ...

What do you get when you combine one of the goofiest movies of the 1970’s with one of the goofiest movies of the 21st century?

I don’t know but it’s called “Greasey Global Warming”.

Talk about a Miracle

I think this qualifies.  A man on a fishing boat gets speared in the chest (straight through to the other side) with a marlin’s bill, knocked into the water and dragged under, still impaled by the fish.

He survived!

Angler speared by a giant fish
When he saw a companion on his boat hook a giant fish during a sea angling contest, Ian Card was delighted.

Next second, the scene of triumph turned to horror - as the 14ft blue marlin leapt out of the water across the vessel and speared Mr Card through the chest with its spiked bill.

The impact of the 800lb fish knocked him overboard into the Atlantic off Bermuda.

Then, with a thrash of its tail and with the 32-year-old still impaled and bleeding profusely, it dragged him underwater.

Terribly injured, he somehow stayed conscious as he struggled to pull himself free of the marlin’s 3ft razor-sharp spike before he drowned.

Finally, he wrenched himself away and was rescued by his companions on the boat - who included his 58-year-old father Alan.

Good grief.

Yesterday, he told how his son surfaced with blood pumping from his wound. ‘He put his hand up to his chest and his fingers disappeared,’ he said. ‘He had a wound about as big as your fist.’ Mr Card was rushed to hospital, where sur- geons carried out an emergency operation and yesterday he was in a stable condition.

But doctors told him that if the marlin’s spike had struck a fraction of an inch higher, it would have severed an artery and killed him.

Missed it by that much.

Mr Card, I think there may be a purpose to your life that you have yet to fulfill.

Georgia Mud Wrestling

That’s all this is ... good ol’ fashioned Georgia Mud Wrestling. I sincerely hope and pray McKinney gets her butt whupped in the upcoming primary runoff. Anybody would be better than McKinney in Congress. In fact a rock would be better than this ignorant, arrogant, egotistical, pitiful excuse for a rational human being. Race-baiting is the least of her sins but she plays the race card as often as she can. In fact, I think she has a couple up her sleeve at all times.

Giver her hell, Mr. Johnson. The woman is an embaressment to the state of Georgia and the entire US. Please beat this woman and bring some common sense back to Congress. You have my endorsement. Now go git her! Take no prisoners! Slam this goober at the polls.

imageimageMcKinney, Johnson Trade Barbs Again
(ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION) - 08/03/06

The closer Cynthia McKinney and Hank Johnson get to Tuesday’s runoff, the nastier the race seems to be getting. At a community forum Thursday night in North DeKalb, the two candidates for the Fourth Congressional District again traded barbs in their efforts to secure crucial votes.

And for one of the first times publicly, Johnson took off the gloves. After McKinney accused him of being under the thumb of Republicans because of the money he has gotten from GOP-leaning donors, he struck back.

“I can accuse her of being under the control of terrorists, but I won’t” Johnson said, because of the money that her campaign has gotten from Muslim interests.

On the current crisis in the Middle East McKinney said that the U.S. must be an “honest broker.” She said that the United States shouldn’t be giving support and arms to Israel to fight against Lebanon, and their fighters who are “throwing rocks.”

“We have to deal fairly with all countries. We have to deal with Palestinians, Israelis, Arabs, Muslims and Jews equally,” said McKinney, who called for a cease-fire. “All religious and ethnic groups have to be respected equally.” Johnson, who has received major support from Jewish groups and donors, said that Israel has the right to exist and to protect itself.

“They are doing more than throwing stones,” Johnson said specifically of Hezbollah, which is fighting out of Lebanon. “They are hurling missiles.” Johnson went on to call McKinney a liar for claims that she is employing 500 workers in a new work program and for the laundry list of money that she said she has brought to the Fourth District during her tenure in the House.

“There is no way she has the ability to work with members of Congress to get all of these grandiose things done that she listed,” Johnson said. Countered McKinney: “I have brought so much money to DeKalb County that Johnson didn’t even spend it.” In a freewheeling debate that had both candidates cutting each other off several times, and supporters for both sides moaning in disapproval at some of their opponents’ questions, the debate was less formal than Monday’s session.

Although it is still a Democratic primary, McKinney continued to paint Johnson with a Republican brush. “The special interest for me is the people,” McKinney said. “In 2002 the Republicans had a scheme and that scheme was to take over Georgia. Mr. Johnson is part of that Republican scheme. He is taking money from Republicans. Taking votes from Republicans. He is asking Republicans to interfere in a Democratic primary.”

Johnson said he has never been a tool of special interests. “I am my own man,” Johnson said. “In the primary, it was the Democrats that voted for me.” The candidates also talked about their difference, most of it pointing directly to style.

“We differ more in terms of style more than issues,” Johnson said. “My style is not controversial or confrontational. But that does not mean that I will not fight for what I believe in. I just don’t want to create headlines to get my movie career going.” McKinney countered that the truth was not controversial, “but telling the truth always is.”

Texas Town Disturbed By Sheehan, Protests
CRAWFORD, Texas (SEATTLE-PI) July 27, 2006

Like many folks in President Bush’s adopted hometown, 83-year-old Robert Westerfield isn’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat for the town’s newest resident: war protester Cindy Sheehan. “I wish she’d stay away. Crawford’s a Republican town, and she’s a dumb Democrat,” Westerfield, a lifelong Crawford resident, said Friday while sitting on a bench outside a gas station on Main Street.

Sheehan, whose monthlong war protest near Bush’s ranch last summer attracted more than 10,000 demonstrators, recently bankrolled the purchase of a 5-acre parcel near downtown to be used for future protests, including one next month. The protesters group said it outgrew a 1-acre lot about a mile from Bush’s ranch that a sympathetic landowner provided. Several hundred demonstrators returned to the lot over Thanksgiving and Easter.

Now many of the town’s 700 residents fear the traffic congestion, noise from rallies and odor from portable toilets - complaints from residents near the other campsite - will affect those closer to town. “When it’s here, it affects a different set of people,” Teresa Bowdoin said. Gerry Fonseca, a Vietnam veteran who attended the protests in August and April, returned to Crawford in June to help the group look for property.

Fonseca said he doubts that any Crawford landowner would have sold to Sheehan or other protesters, so he didn’t reveal his connection. Fonseca, who lost his Slidell, La., home in Hurricane Katrina, told sellers about that part of his life and that he wanted to build.

He bought the $52,500 lot in mid-July, using insurance money that Sheehan received after her oldest son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004.

The lot is a tenth of a mile from a small “Welcome to Crawford” billboard featuring a picture of Bush, smiling with his hand in a thumbs-up sign, and his wife. The land is comprised of pasture and tree groves. Trucks began dumping gravel for a driveway on Friday, and water lines will be installed next week. Fonseca said he is still trying to arrange for electricity to be hooked up.

Although the site is more than 7 miles from Bush’s ranch, it will have more space for the group’s large activities tent, camping area and parking. “This is close enough. We’re still protesting in the community that he chose to live in,” Fonseca said.

Sheehan said when the camp is no longer needed, she plans to donate the land to the city for a park to be named Spc. Casey Sheehan Memorial Peace Park. Sheehan said it would have a playground, because “Casey loved children and peace.”

And The Beat Goes On …

This cat, Hachoo Nostrilla, is a real piece of work. He is cunning and good with words. He is a gifted speaker and knows how to turn a phrase, always knowing what to say to keep the faithful following him. In other words, Bill Clinton of the Middle East. He is now a media TV star in the Arab world, surpassing even President Ahmawhackjob of Iran.

That’s the problem over there. Every asshat with at least two followers believes himself to be the next “Mahdi” who will wipe out the infidels and restore the caliphate. The sheeple in the “Arab street’ just love it. It’s all grand theatre to them - until they get bombed. Then they rapidly become “victims of Zionist agression”.

Another day, another hundred dead. Hezbollah is withering under the Israeli assault. I can tell because they have raised the boasting index to Level Seven on the Skipper-Bullshit Scale. This latest threat, if carried out, will infuriate Israel and then the hammer will fall. None too soon ...

Nasrallah: We’ll Bomb Tel Aviv If Beirut Attacked
(Y-NET NEWS) - Aug. 3, 2006

In TV address, Hizbullah leader says terror group will respond to next Israeli strike in Beirut with rockets on Tel Aviv. Israel responds: Lebanese infrastructure will be destroyed if Tel Aviv is hit.

Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatened to bomb Tel Aviv during a TV address Thursday night, should Israel attack in Beirut. “If you indeed do this, I say this clearly. I won’t use terms I used up to now, past Haifa, but I will say clearly and in a way that is not open to interpretation: If you bomb our capital we’ll bomb your capital. We’ll bomb Tel Aviv and we can do this.”

A senior Israeli defense source told Israel’s Channel 1 that Israel will destroy Lebanon’s infrastructure if Hizbullah fires rockets at Tel Aviv. During the speech, which was aired on al-Manar TV, Nasrallah discussed the ‘importance’ of ground battles by Hizbullah members against IDF units: “We are fighting against very heavy pressure and are fighting battles of heroism across the whole front.” He added that his organization had many anti-tank weapons.

image

Nasrallah branded Prime Minister Ehud Olmert a “fool” for “declaring a victory too early.” “He wants to look like (Ariel) Sharon, (Yitzhak) Rabin, and (Menachem) Begin. Ask him where the accomplishments are that he promised you,” Nasrallah said. He added that he was following Israeli analysts.

Nasrallah mocked the commando raid in Baalbek: “There were two landings near Baalbek and not in the heart of Baalbek. They stormed a hospital and threw a grenade. Pay attention to the great gain, to search for injured fighters who they didn’t capture during the battle. They weren’t there, they kidnapped five civilians and they are hostages. This is intelligence, this is the Mossad?”

Nasrallah added, “We all remember the heroic battles. There are tens of thousands of Israeli soldiers in the field and many tanks with them. They are facing soldiers standing with bravery and stopping the advance. The battle is still going on in front positions and it surprised the Zionists. The Israelis come to enter a village, so that Hizbullah fighters will run away, but up to now – the fighters remained to battle in the villages until the last bullet. Israel was surprised by the human factor. They are fighting against men willing to sacrifice.”

This was Nasrallah’s eighth television appearance since the kidnapping of soldiers on the northern border.
