Wake-Up Call For Republicans

THANK GOD! Someone finally said it out loud! Steve Darnell has a new opinion piece out at his website that will rattle your cage. He dares to call Republicans on the carpet and asks if any of you have any guts or cojones at all.

By God, I like this guy and the way he talks. Steve is only expressing what most of us have been thinking and occasionally complaining about here for ages. FIGHT BACK, REPUBLICANS! The Dems are losers and they won’t quit until you stand up and smack the crap out of them. Whooo-hoooo! I love it!

Democrats Sink To New Low
by Steve Darnell

I have been taking a lot of flak from some fellow Republicans lately over the way I am attacking liberals in my columns.  They feel that insulting liberals by calling them wackos or loonies is just “stooping to their level” and should be stopped.

I guess many of my Republican friends prefer the “intellectual” approach to arguments.  Which means to sit back with a smile on your face while being insulted by a liberal.  Once the liberal has finished his or her insults, then and only then, make an intellectual argument about a conservative position.

The only problem is that liberals never finish their string of insults.  They have the staying power of Bill Clinton at an intern convention.

Just watch any debate between a conservative and a liberal politician on CNN or Fox News.  The conservative’s argument can never be heard over all the liberal insults and interruptions.  Sometimes I want to shout at the Republic senator or congressman on television:  “Do something!  Don’t just sit there with a smile on your face!  Fight back!” But of course the Republican never does.

Smile!

Years ago Allen Funt (of “Candid Camera” fame) made a hilarious movie called “What Do You Say To A Naked Lady?”. The premise of the movie was simple: introduce a naked woman into ordinary situations out in public and see how people react. It was a riot to watch.

Why is The Skipper telling you this? Well, if you can manage to click the picture below with your little “mouse thingy” you will find out. The web site is all in Russian but who’s gonna be reading the text anyway, eh? (NSFW)

Message In A Bottle

imageimageWell, the G-8 leaders all huddled up over the weekend and haggled back and forth before finally sending Germany’s Angela Merkel out to deliver the message to the masses. Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Hezbullah: Give the captured soldiers back to the Jews, stop shelling Israel with rockets. Israel: stop raining destruction down on their pointy little heads, pull back from Gaza and let their government officials out of jail.

Yep, that oughta do it. Turn off the war drums, leash the hounds of war, beat those swords into plowshares and let’s all sing Koombayah. Who are they kidding? Hamas and Hezbullah have stirred up a hornet’s nest and the stingers are out. Let’s just get this over with once and for all and be done with it. It’s time for somebody to just beat the living crap out of the Arabs so we can get some peace and quiet. I, for one, am sick and tired of all the racket coming from the Middle East. Fifty years is long enough to hold a grudge. Get over it!

You can read the full text of the message sent down from Mount Olympus by simply clicking “Continue Reading”. I still think Zeus and Ares need to just drop a few lightning bolts on the Pallies. They can always claim it was a mysterious meteor strike ....

GM Aleksander Wojtkiewicz dies at 43

The Woj has died. I’m saddened. I’d met him a couple of times and even faced him over the board once in a simul. Out of twenty-one boards he scored 20.5. I was the half point, meaning I held him to a draw. No doubt he would have creamed me in a one-on-one match.

Aleksander Wojkiewicz dies at 43
16.07.2006 Born in Latvia, but Polish by nationality, he was a great chess talent in his teens. But his career was interrupted when he was imprisoned for refusing to join the Soviet Army. In 1986 he moved to Poland and later took residence in the US, becoming one of the most active tournament players in the world. Aleksander Wojtkiewitz died on July 14th 2006. He will be sadly missed.

Aleksander Wojtkiewicz was born on January 15, 1963, in Latvia, which at the time was part of the Soviet Union. His name was originally spelled Vojtkevic, and he was Polish by nationality. He showed an early talent for chess, becoming a master at the age of 15.

Bring In The Clowns

This is absolutely the last thing I need to read on a beautiful Sunday morning. That’s why I’m going to share it with you - so we all can gaze into the deep, dark recesses of the mind of Democrats.

Gloom and doom. The sky is falling. Bush = Nixon. Bush = Hitler. Lost the high moral ground. Republicans weak on defense. If Democrats were in control we’d fix this mess.

Pardon me, I need an air-sickness bag. Usually, Dean is good for some entertainmen but this is ridiculous. The man lies through his teeth and generally just makes crap up as he goes along. All this clown needs is a seltzer bottle and some large floppy shoes. Read the spew below at your own peril. Just keep in mind that this is the “voice of the Democratic Party.” I wonder how they all fit into that tiny little car .... ?

imageimageDemocratic Chairman Speaks At Conference
July 16, 2006

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean accused President Bush last night of being weak on national defense and absent in the escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon.

In remarks at San Diego State University, Dean urged activists to fan across the nation – including deep into the heart of Republican-rich “red” states – to tell voters that Bush has failed as president – including in national defense, which Republicans tout as their core strength.

“There are a lot of things we can say when we knock on the door (of voters),” Dean told hundreds at San Diego State’s Open Air Theatre. “You know, people say the Republicans are tough on defense. How can you be tough on defense if five years after 9/11, Osama bin Laden is still at large, the Iranians are about to get nuclear weapons, North Korea’s quadrupled their nuclear weapons stash. . . .

“Explain to me how it is that this president is tough on defense? I think this president is weak on defense and he’s hurt America because he hasn’t done the right thing,” Dean said. “This country is in the worst shape since Richard Nixon, and probably before that,” Dean said. “We’ve lost the high moral high ground everywhere in the world. We want to be respected around the world again. We want our moral authority to be restored, because part of defending America is not just well-armed troops; it’s having the high moral ground.”

In an apparent reference to Israeli military action deep inside Lebanon, Dean said: “If you think what’s going on in the Middle East today would be going on if the Democrats were in control, it wouldn’t, because we would have worked day after day after day to make sure we didn’t get where we are today. We would have had the moral authority that Bill Clinton had when he brought together the Northern Irish and the IRA, when he brought together the Israelis and the Palestinians.”

Newt Hawk

Well, at least someone agrees with The Skipper. Yesterday, I called it and now Newt agrees. The storm clouds are brewing and it’s time to start planning where we want to be and what we want to do when the fertilizer hits the ventilator. Several of our readers here made comments yesterday about possible consequences and scenarios as this plays out.

All I know is it’s going to get real ugly real quick. As someone here noted, even the other Arab nations are staying awfully quiet on this. They are meeting in Egypt this weekend but so far they have not strongly condemned Israel - just made a few remarks to the press, probably just to keep their base happy. It’s beginning to look like Syria and Iran may be on their own here, in spite of what Ahmawhackjob says. Even Al-Jizz is quiet.

If there is an innocent victim in all this it is Lebanon. The government there has absolutely no control whatsoever over the large Hezbullah “refugee” camps in the southern part of that country. The Lebanese military and police don’t even bother to try to police the radical terrorists on Israel’s border. Syria is interfering by supplying arms to these asshats and Iran is now funneling arms and soldiers into the conflict.

Israel issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Syria yesterday evening and I expect that to be the tripwire. Syria will not back down because Assad is just as insane as the Mad Mullahs in Iran. Prediction: Israel will launch a pre-emptive strike into Syria and then the war will escalate, Damascus will be bombed and Iran will attempt to jump in on Syria’s side. If North Korea has sneaked nuclear weapons into Iran this could get really ugly. The first mushroom cloud will not be the last. Count on it.

Suggestion For President Bush: you better deploy the Sixth Fleet to the Eastern Mediterranean and while you’re at it, you probably need to forward deploy some serious airpower in Iraq. Oh ... and you might want to ask “Pooty-Poot” if he wants in on this to help us or does he want to stay quiet on the sidelines. There is no other option.

imageimageGingrich Says It’s World War III
July 16, 2006 12:54 PM

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says America is in World War III and President Bush should say so. In an interview in Bellevue this morning Gingrich said Bush should call a joint session of Congress the first week of September and talk about global military conflicts in much starker terms than have been heard from the president.

“We need to have the militancy that says ‘We’re not going to lose a city,’ “ Gingrich said. He talks about the need to recognize World War III as important for military strategy and political strategy.

Gingrich said he is “very worried” about Republican’s facing fall elections and says the party must have the “nerve” to nationalize the elections and make the 2006 campaigns about a liberal Democratic agenda rather than about President Bush’s record. Gingrich says that as of now Republicans “are sailing into the wind” in congressional campaigns. He said that’s in part because of the Iraq war, adding, “Iraq is hard and painful and we do not explain it very well.”

But some of it is due to Republicans’ congressional agenda. He said House and Senate Republicans “forgot the core principle” of the party and embraced Congressional pork. “Some of the guys,” he said, have come down with a case of “incumbentitis.” Gingrich said in the coming days he plans to speak out publicly, and to the Administration, about the need to recognize that America is in World War III.

He lists wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, this week’s bomb attacks in India, North Korean nuclear threats, terrorist arrests and investigations in Florida, Canada and Britain, and violence in Israel and Lebanon as evidence of World War III. He said Bush needs to deliver a speech to Congress and “connect all the dots” for Americans.

He said the reluctance to put those pieces together and see one global conflict is hurting America’s interests. He said people, including some in the Bush Administration, who urge a restrained response from Israel are wrong “because they haven’t crossed the bridge of realizing this is a war.”

“This is World War III,” Gingrich said. And once that’s accepted, he said calls for restraint would fall away:

“Israel wouldn’t leave southern Lebanon as long as there was a single missile there. I would go in and clean them all out and I would announce that any Iranian airplane trying to bring missiles to re-supply them would be shot down. This idea that we have this one-sided war where the other team gets to plan how to kill us and we get to talk, is nuts.”

epidemic of teacher-student sex?

This is a rather lengthy article attempting to explain the epidemic of teacher-student sex. It starts off with an outrageous example:

It was a bizarre and emotional courtroom scene, but one occurring with disturbing frequency these days. A popular middle school teacher, 43-year-old Pamela Diehl-Moore, had tearfully pleaded guilty to having sex with a child – a 13-year-old male student who had just completed 7th grade – and now stood before a Hackensack, N.J., judge awaiting sentencing.

And what would that sentence be? Considering all the intense media coverage of male sexual predators victimizing female children, one might expect a stiff prison term, accompanied by a withering rebuke.

But when New Jersey Superior Court Judge Bruce A. Gaeta opened his mouth, the words that came out did not express criticism of the teacher, nor acknowledge any damage she had done to her victim.

“I really don’t see the harm that was done here,” the judge proclaimed, “and certainly society doesn’t need to be worried. I do not believe she is a sexual predator. It’s just something between two people that clicked beyond the teacher-student relationship.”

“Clicked”? With a 13-year-old?

Thankfully, this judge later came under judicial fitness reveiw though the article doesn’t give the result.

In yet another recent court case, U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten in Kansas also questioned whether sex with kids was really bad.

“Where is the clear, credible evidence that underage sex is always injurious? If you tell me because it is illegal, I reject that,” Marten said, according to the Associated Press.

This is the judge? He’s supposed to find according to law, not legislate from the bench.

Go read the rest. Be prepared for a long read.

Update: Common Sense in PA

That was quick. The Hazelton City Council has been sued.

Rights groups sue Pennylvania town on immigrant law
Fri Jul 14, 2006 6:55pm
By Jon Hurdle

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A Pennsylvania town that passed one of the toughest immigration laws in the United States this week overstepped its authority, said a civil-liberties group which announced plans on Friday to sue.

The city council of Hazleton, a former coal-mining town of some 31,000 people, late on Thursday passed a measure that will deny a business permit to anyone hiring illegal immigrants.

It also imposes a $1,000 fine on any landlord who rents to illegal immigrants, and establishes English as the town’s official language.

The ordinance states that illegal immigration leads to higher crime rates, overcrowded classrooms and failing schools, imposes a financial burden on hospitals and reduces the quality of other public services in the town.
