King Richard

ATTENTION! All gun owners in the Kingdom Of Ill-Annoys are hereby ordered to appear before King Richard, grovel before his presence and petition His Royal Highness for the right to own a firearm. His Majesty suspended the US Constitution in the wake of a shooting in Chicago whereby a gun mysteriously killed a young girl, apparently without any criminal firing it. “Criminals don’t kill little girls, gun-owners kill little girls”, His Majesty declared. King Richard then proceeded to douse himself in green beer and dance naked through the streets of Chicago ....

(CNSNews.com)

An Illinois gun rights group Tuesday called Chicago Democratic Mayor Richard Daley “delusional” for demanding that all 1.5 million firearm owners in the state appear before him and explain why their weapons should not be banned or confiscated.

While acknowledging that Daley’s statement comes in the wake of a pair of shootings in the city that left two young girls dead, Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA), nevertheless said that the mayor’s outburst “suggests strongly that it’s time to pad the walls” of his office with rubber.

“I have a message for you, Mr. Mayor,” Pearson added. “The Revolutionary War was not fought so that we could unseat King George and install King Richard. The Bill of Rights is not a stick of salami that you can slice and dice at your whim.

“You may have succeeded in suspending the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th amendments” to the U.S. Constitution “in Chicago, but the people of Illinois are not going to let you extend your tyranny beyond the city limits,” he stated.

“And no, we have no obligation to come to Chicago, kneel before your throne and beg to freely exercise the rights that so many before us have died for,” Pearson said. “To be honest, Mr. Mayor, I think Chicago would be a much better place if you spent less time in front of the cameras and more time behind your desk.”

Daley’s unusual demand follows a series of events that began on Friday, March 3, when 14-year-old Starkesia Reed was killed when a stray bullet came through the window of her family’s house in the city’s Englewood community.

European Vacation

British workers have just been slapped by Brussels, it seems. The EU rules mandating four weeks vacation for all workers have stepped on the toes of Brits who had been able to cash in unused vacation time like most US companies do. No longer, according to the Socialist Overlords in Brussels. Somebody must have figured out that Britain might become like France where the total sum of vacation, personal leave, sick leave, holidays and a mandated 30-hour work week means the average Frenchman only works about 12 hours per year ... and can retire with a pension at age 40. A true “worker’s paradise”, isn’t it, comrades?

Workers Can’t Trade Holidays For Pay, EU Rules
Thursday March 16, 2006

LONDON (GUARDIAN)

British workers will no longer be able to be paid for unused holiday entitlement, the EU ruled today. European judges said the so-called “rolled-up holiday pay” system breached the EU’s working time directive, which guarantees employees a minimum four weeks’ holiday a year.

The European Court of Justice in Luxembourg was ruling in a case brought by a group of British shift workers demanding the right to payment during their holidays instead of notional extra hourly pay instead.

Under EU rules the minimum period of paid annual leave cannot be replaced by an allowance, except where employment is terminated. The judges said that payment for annual holidays included in hourly or daily pay rates - “rolled-up holiday pay” - was contrary to the working time directive.

This was because the system could lead to situations where minimum holiday was replaced just by an allowance - and annual paid leave was a key entitlement under the rules. “The entitlement of every worker to paid annual leave is an important principle of community social law from which there can be no derogation (exception),” said the judgment.

Tort Suite

When it comes to legal foolishness, you can’t beat the state of California, the state with the second-highest proportion of idjits in the US (after Flori-DUH). This case is is especially delicious. Curtis “Goober” Gokey destroyed his own vehicle by accident while at work driving a city dump truck. Goober tried to sue the city and failed so his wife Rhonda “Looney” Gokey filed another lawsuit - against her husband. At last report, Goober and Looney were working out a settlement. Stay tuned ....

City Rejects Claim By Own Employee, So Wife Files Another
Wednesday, Mar 15, 2006 - 07:00:29 am PST

LODI, Calif. (LODI NEWS-SENTINEL)

Curtis Gokey is two men at once — a Lodi city employee and a private citizen. Gokey the employee crashed a city dump truck into a privately owned truck owned by, well, Curtis Gokey. But Gokey the private citizen wants the city of Lodi to pay damages incurred by Gokey the employee. The two Gokeys are the same person. Not only that, his wife says that the accident was her husband’s fault.

Gokey backed the city dump truck into his private vehicle during a December storm, according to his wife, Rhonda Gokey. The private vehicle is registered in both their names, so they jointly filed a claim against the city. The city recently denied a $3,600 claim because Curtis Gokey is a city employee and, in essence, filing a claim against himself, his wife said.

Since that didn’t work, Rhonda Gokey reasoned that she could file a new claim in her own name only, thereby eliminating her husband’s alleged conflict of interest in filing a claim against himself. “I have the right to sue the city because a city’s vehicle damaged my private vehicle,” she said. Rhonda Gokey filed a larger claim, this one for almost $4,800.

“I’m not as nice as my husband is,” she said. “I’m entitled to a replacement vehicle and insurance for the vehicle.” The second claim is pending at Lodi City Hall. City Attorney Steve Schwabauer said the claim doesn’t have merit, especially because Curtis Gokey admitted in the first claim that the accident is his fault.

There is no basis for Rhonda Gokey’s claim, either, because she can’t, in essence, sue her husband, Schwabauer said. “You can sue your spouse for divorce, but you can’t sue your spouse for negligence,” Schwabauer said. “They’re a married couple under California law. They’re one entity. It’s damage to community property.”

Things You Shouldn’t Do When You’re Deaf #127

Walk on Train Tracks While Text Messaging

AUSTIN, Texas—Austin police now say the reigning Miss Deaf Texas was killed by a freight train apparently while text-messaging family and friends on her cell phone.

Tara Rose McAvoy, 18, was killed Monday while walking along the Union Pacific tracks in South Austin. Police said she apparently was walking from her family’s home to her mother’s workplace when she was hit.

Tragic.

Make Love Not War

You’re out on patrol, choppering through the skies over the war zone in Iraq. While scanning around with night vision goggle you notice activity in a parked car behind a building. You zoom with the goggles and slowly the picture comes into focus ....

Chopper Observer: “02 to 26. Do you copy?”

HQ Comm unit: “Go ahead, 02.”

Chopper Observer: “We have activity here but I don’t think we need to report it.”

HQ Comm Unit: “What you got, 02?”

Chopper Observer: “Well .... it looks like fornication in a convertible.”

HQ Comm Unit: “Whaaaaaaaat?”

(Entire chopper crew heard cracking up in background)

On Strike?

I am somewhat confused. I thought that when a group went on “strike” that means they refused to go to work. The Paleswinians never work. All they do is run around in mobs, firing Ak-47’s up in the air, burn American and Israeli flags and send suicide bombers into Israel. None of them actually have real jobs. If they did, the place wouldn’t be a run-down, decaying slum. Or maybe this means they’re gonna take a break from mobbing, shooting, burning and exploding? Ya think ... ?

imageimagePalestinians Protest At Jail Raid
Wednesday, 15 March 2006, 11:08 GMT

GAZA CITY (BBC)

Palestinians are going on strike in Gaza and the West Bank to protest against Israel’s seizure of a leading militant from a jail on Tuesday. All Palestinian factions called on businesses and schools to close after Ahmed Saadat gave himself up after troops stormed his jail in Jericho.

The West Bank raid began when UK and US monitors left the Palestinian-run prison complaining about lax security. Gunmen have released all 11 of the foreigners kidnapped in retaliation.

Two French citizens and a South Korean journalist had been held hostage overnight, but they have now been handed over to Palestinian police. The authorities in Israel and the West Bank remain on high alert fearing further violence after the British Council cultural centre in Gaza City was set ablaze on Tuesday.

The general strike throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip was called late on Tuesday after emergency talks to discuss the Israeli raid in which Mr Saadat, the leader of the left-wing Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), was captured.

“The Palestinian factions called during an emergency meeting for a general strike across the Palestinian territories to condemn the seizure of Saadat, the Israeli aggression and the killing of Palestinians,” one delegate said.

Marital Bliss

I disagree with Reuters. This is not ”Mr. and Mrs. Smith”. This was ”The War Of The Roses” ....

Now THERE’S A Couple That Knows How To Fight!
Mar 14, 9:36 AM (ET)

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A Mexican couple were recovering separately after a marital spat got out of control and saw them firing guns, throwing knives and hurling homemade bombs, Mexican daily Milenio said on Monday.

In scenes taken straight out of hit romantic comedy “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Juan Espinosa and Irma Contreras fought until their house blew up in a homemade gasoline bomb explosion, Milenio said.

Police called to the home in the indigenous Mayan Indian town of Oxkutzcab in the southeastern state of Yucatan arrested Espinosa. Contreras was taken to hospital with third-degree burns.

A local police official confirmed the report but declined to provide further information.

Espinosa told reporters he was glad his wife had suffered burns, while Contreras said she was only sorry she had not “hacked off his manhood” during the fight.

You Must Remember This

We’re all about to be in a lot of trouble. As the baby boomers grow old, we (yes, we!) are all beginning to develop memory problems. This is going to be especially troublesome for the Liberals who never stopped smoking marijuana after the 1960’s.

I admit, I indulged in the late 60’s while I was in college (yes, I inhaled) but haven’t had a need for it since. I see no reason for it to be illegal though. Other than the fact that there are going to be a lot of lost former hippies wandering around with their gray hair tied in ponytails, trying to remember what their name is. Sort of a “Night Of The Living Stoner” type thing, if you know what I mean. Now if I can only remember where I left the car keys ....

imageimageMarijuana Tied To Memory Problems
Mon Mar 13, 5:51 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters Health)

People who regularly smoke marijuana may find their memories growing hazy over time, a study published Monday suggests. In a study of long-term and shorter-term marijuana users, researchers in Greece found that both groups performed more poorly on tests of memory, attention and other cognitive abilities than a comparison group who’d only occasionally used the drug.

Long-term users - who’d smoked four or more joints per week for at least 10 years - showed the greatest deficits. The findings, published in the journal Neurology, add to the conflicting body of research on the effects of marijuana on the brain. While many studies have suggested that long-time pot smoking dulls memory, attention span and mental acuity, some have found no large differences in these skills between marijuana users and non-users.

One recent analysis of 15 studies found only minor effects on memory among long-time pot users, and no clear effect on attention, language, reasoning and a number of other cognitive functions. One problem is that it’s difficult for studies such as the current one to establish a definite cause-and-effect relationship between marijuana and intellectual deficits, Dr. Lambros Messinis, the study’s lead author, told Reuters Health.

Though the researchers accounted for a number of variables—like education, use of other drugs and the presence of clinical depression—it’s tough to control for all the factors that could make heavy marijuana users different from other people, according to Messinis. Still, he and his colleagues say, their findings are in line with certain past studies linking heavy, long-term pot smoking to “subtle” deficits in intellectual abilities.

Wise Guys

Today’s Special Crime Moment is brought to you by The Sopranos, Serpico and Daffy Duck. The bad guys this time are ... cops. And not too bright cops, it seems. It all takes place in New York (where else?), where the mob is still in business and dirty cops can still be found. Every time I read one of these stories, I’m reminded of a classic exchange between Rick and the German Major Strasser in ”Casablanca” ....

Major Strasser: Are you one of those people who cannot imagine the Germans in their beloved Paris?

Rick: It’s not particularly my beloved Paris.

Heinz: Can you imagine us in London?

Rick: When you get there, ask me!

Captain Renault: Hmmh! Diplomatist!

Major Strasser: How about New York?

Rick: Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn’t advise you to try to invade.

imageimageSHOCKING PIX OF ‘WRONG’ HIT
March 14, 2006

(NEW YORK POST)

Chilling photos of one of the worst botched mob hits in history surfaced for the first time yesterday as the explosive trial of two alleged cops-turned-Mafia-hit men kicked off in Brooklyn federal court.

The most shocking never-seen-before photo featured the bullet-riddled body of tragic phone-company worker Nicholas Guido, 26, slumped over the wheel of his new, red Nissan Maxima in his family’s driveway in Brooklyn on Christmas Day, 1986.

Prosecutors say dirty Detectives Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa thought they were giving Luchese crime-family boss Anthony “Gaspipe” Casso the address of the Nicholas Guido who had tried to assassinate Casso. But the cops gave Casso’s hit men the wrong address, that of an innocent Nicholas Guido, who was three years younger than the intended target, the feds said.

Prosecutors revealed the eerie photos as they tried to paint Eppolito and Caracappa as cold-blooded cops who morphed into Mafia hit men for the moolah, using their gold badges to lure squealers to their deaths for ruthless mob bosses. The cops’ payoff? Up to $65,000 a hit, the feds said.  In one of the most outrageous cases of police corruption in history, Casso repeatedly used the cops as his personal “crystal ball” to help track down informants and then murder them, the feds said.

The highly decorated veteran cops were “not traditional mobsters. They were better. They were two men who could get away with murder,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitra Hormozi told rapt jurors. “Why? Because they were New York City police detectives.

“The defendants went into business together, and the business was crime. Even worse, the defendants committed many of these crimes while sworn to protect the very people they preyed upon.” But the defendants’ lawyers scoffed that the feds’ main witnesses were a bunch of cowardly, killer canaries who only rolled over to the feds after being tossed in the pen for their own crimes.

“They called each other tough guys, goodfellas - until the jail door shut,” flamboyant mob lawyer Bruce Cutler sniped of the turncoats. “Then they wet their pants and called Mommy - the government.”

Out Of Order

This is simply incredible. I saw this on Fox last night and was completely stunned. The man is an admitted terrorist. He is totally unashamed of his participation in 9/11. And this trial has just been goobered-up on a technicality? I’m sorry. I need to go lie down for a while. This defies all reason or sanity. Protecting a criminal’s rights has simply gone too far off the deep end. Especially in light of the fact that millions of dollars have already been spent on prosecuting this jerk. Millions of dollars that will go to incompetent lawyers. Yeah, I know. What other kind is there, right ... ?

imageimageMoussaoui Death Penalty Case May Be Tossed
Tue Mar 14, 3:28 AM ET

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP)

Prosecutors are struggling to save their bid to execute al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui after the judge said a government lawyer’s misconduct makes it very difficult for the case to go forward.

Visibly angry, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema summoned the offending lawyer, Carla J. Martin of the Transportation Security Administration, to a hearing Tuesday to assess what damage she may have done by coaching seven witnesses.

The seven present or former federal aviation officials — three prosecution and four defense witnesses — also were to be questioned. Brinkema said she wanted to “find out if I can satisfy myself that their testimony is not going to be slanted or otherwise inaccurate” as a result of Martin’s coaching. Meanwhile, Brinkema suspended the sentencing trial on Monday and sent the jury home while she decides on a remedy for the government misconduct.

Defense attorney Edward MacMahon has moved to bar the government from pursuing the death penalty. If Brinkema does that, the trial would end. Moussaoui would automatically be sentenced to life in prison without possibility of release. And the government would likely appeal. The trial’s second week began Monday with a bombshell: “In all the years I have been on the bench, I have never seen such an egregious violation of a court’s rule on witnesses,” Brinkema told the court before the jury was brought in.

Brinkema had ordered that trial witnesses were not to see trial transcripts or to follow the case, to guard against their being coached or altering their testimony to conform with what others said.

Gun Safety

3-Year-Old Boy Shoots Mom in the Knee
Mon Mar 13, 4:47 PM ET

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP)

A 3-year-old boy shot his mother in the knee with a 9mm handgun he had found under a couch cushion over the weekend, police said. It was the second time the boy had handled the gun on Sunday. The mother had taken the gun away from the child and removed the bullets — apparently overlooking one in the chamber — and put the weapon back on the couch.

When the boy picked the gun up a second time, it fired. “It appears to be accidental,” said St. Paul police spokesman Pete Crum. The woman was taken to Regions Hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. “It could have been much more tragic had the child shot himself or hit the woman in a more vital area,” Crum said.

The boy was put in the care of his father. Authorities removed several guns from the home. Crum said they were all legal. Police said they would forward the case to the Ramsey County Attorney’s office for possible child-endangerment charges.

“There are two lessons to learn: Don’t let your children play with guns. Always treat a gun as though it’s loaded,” Crum said.

Lesson #3: Never hide a loaded gun under a couch cushion if you have a kid in the house.

Lesson #4: If the brat finds it, take it away from him and don’t hide it in the same place.

Lesson #5: Aw, forget it! People this stupid don’t need to own guns. They must be Liberals.
