Minutes later, the SM-3 intercepted a separating ballistic missile threat target, launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility, Barking Sands, Kauai, Hawaii. The test was the sixth intercept, in seven flight tests, by the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense, the maritime component of the “Hit to Kill” Ballistic Missile Defense System, being developed by the Missile Defense Agency. Big Anus Speaks From Switzerland

Little Anus (Howard Dean) has been quiet lately so I suppose it was inevitable that Big Anus take the public stage and project Liberal vomitus on us again. Monsieur LeKerre is in Switzerland (probably on a fact-finding mission that has nothing to do with lobbyists, right?) but he found time in his busy schedule to declare war on Judge Alito. He has girded his loins and is preparing for battle. It’s too bad his sword is rusty and bent ... kinda like his brain ...

imageimageKerry Will Try Alito Filibuster
White House confident it has support to bring vote
Thursday, January 26, 2006; Posted: 6:16 p.m. EST (23:16 GMT)
WASHINGTON (CNN)

Sen. John Kerry will attempt a filibuster to block the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, CNN has learned. Kerry, in Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum, was marshaling support in phone calls during the day, he told CNN. Kerry said he told a group of Democratic senators Wednesday, and urged that they join him. Kerry said he has the support of fellow Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Some senior Democrats told CNN they are worried that the move could backfire. Republicans would need 60 votes to overturn a filibuster—a procedural move that extends Senate debate indefinitely, effectively blocking a vote. Senior White House officials said the move would make the Democrats look bad, and that Republicans believe they have enough votes to overcome any filibuster attempt.

Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Tennessee Republican, scheduled a vote to end debate on the nomination—called a cloture vote—Monday at 4:30 p.m. If that vote is successful, the final vote would be Tuesday morning. Nearly all 55 Republican senators have said they will vote for Alito. Only three Democrats—Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia and Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota—have said they will vote for the nominee.

Earlier Thursday, Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana said she would oppose a filibuster. “Because we have such a full plate of pressing issues before Congress, a filibuster at this time would be, in my view, very counterproductive,” said Landrieu, who is pushing the Senate to focus on the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. On Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to send Alito’s nomination to the full Senate.

In supporting Alito, the 10 committee Republicans praised his qualifications and long judicial career. Democrats have been mostly united in opposition to Alito. The panel’s eight Democrats opposed him, saying he would be too deferential to presidential authority and would restrict abortion rights. Republicans and the White House are pushing to have that vote before President Bush gives his State of the Union speech January 31, Senate sources have said.

In the floor debate of Alito’s nomination, Democrats have been highly critical of the nomination, saying he would threaten civil liberties and fail to act as a check on executive power. “If an originalist analysis was applied to the Fourteenth Amendment, women would not be provided equal protection under the Constitution, interracial marriages could be outlawed, schools could still be segregated and the principle of one man, one vote would not govern the way we elect our representatives,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat.

Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, the Judiciary Committee’s ranking Democrat, had supported Chief Justice John Roberts’ nomination last fall. But this time, he said, “I am concerned that if we confirm this nominee it will further erode the checks and balances” between the branches of government.

Terrorist Government In Palestine

This comes as no surprise to me. I still remember seeing news videos of Paleswinians dancing in the streets and celebrating on 9-11-2001. Words alone cannot convey the absolute disgust I have for these people. Now they elect a government of terrorists? Get real. This bunch of cretins is giving pond scum a run for its money. First they saddle us with Yasser Arafat and his murderous gang of thugs and now they elect a government of pure evil. I truly hate to say it but I would not shed a tear if this whole sorry excuse for a “country” was wiped out entirely ...

imageimageAbbas to Ask Hamas to Form Next Government
January 26, 2006, 6:46 AM EST
RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP)

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will ask Hamas to form the next Palestinian government after the Islamic militants swept parliamentary elections, and the defeated Fatah Party will serve in the opposition, a senior Fatah legislator said Thursday.

A Hamas-only government, without Fatah as a moderating force, is sure to throw Mideast peacemaking into turmoil. The Islamic militants, who carried out dozens of suicide bombings and seek Israel’s destruction, have said they oppose peace talks and will not disarm. Israel and the United States have said they will not deal with Hamas.

Earlier Thursday, top Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal told Abbas his group is ready for a political partnership. However, Fatah does not want to join a Hamas government, said Fatah legislator Saeb Erekat. “We will be a loyal opposition and rebuild the party,” Erekat said, after meeting with Abbas. Abbas will ask Hamas to form the next government, Erekat said.

Officials in both parties said Hamas appeared to have captured a large majority of seats in Wednesday’s elections. The Central Election Commission said the vote count had not been completed and that it would make an official announcement Thursday evening. Abbas, who favors peace talks with Israel, has said he would resign if he could no longer pursue his agenda. Aides said he planned a major speech Thursday night. Israel and the United States have said they would not deal with a government led by Hamas, which has carried out dozens of suicide bombings and which they consider a terrorist group.

Acknowledging the Hamas victory, Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia and his Cabinet ministers resigned Thursday—hours before official results from Wednesday’s vote were released. “This is the choice of the people. It should be respected,” Qureia said. “If it’s true, then the president should ask Hamas to form a new government.” The Cabinet remained in office in a caretaker capacity. Under the law, Abbas must ask the largest party in the new parliament—presumably Hamas—to form the next government. Abbas was elected separately a year ago and remains president.

Hamas capitalized on widespread discontent with Fatah’s corruption and ineffectiveness. Much of its campaign focused on internal Palestinian issues, while playing down the conflict with Israel. Israeli officials declined comment on the outcome, but senior security officials gathered Thursday to discuss the results. Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert scheduled talks with senior officials later in the day. Olmert said Wednesday, before Hamas claimed victory, that Israel cannot trust a Palestinian leadership in which the Islamic group has a role.

“Israel can’t accept a situation in which Hamas, in its present form as a terror group calling for the destruction of Israel, will be part of the Palestinian Authority without disarming,” Olmert said in a statement issued by his office. Reactions to the Hamas victory streamed in from around the world. Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi, according to news reports, called it a “very, very, very bad result.” But Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the European Union’s external relations commissioner, said Hamas must be “ready to work for peace” with Israel if it joins the Palestinian government.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan congratulated the Palestinian people on the peaceful elections, which he views as an important step toward a Palestinian state. President Bush told The Wall Street Journal in an interview Wednesday the United States will not deal with Hamas until it renounces its position calling for the destruction of Israel.

Til Bugs Do Us Part

Man, it don’t get any creepier than this. Once again I’m amazed at the lengths people will go to in order to get attention. I wish the happy couple well. One question, however: if they get divorced who gets custody of the creepy crawlers ... ?

imageimageThailand Couple With Creepy Passion to Wed
January 26, 2006, 6:38 AM EST
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP)

It was love at first sight for Thailand’s Scorpion Queen and Centipede King. The couple with a soft spot for creepy crawlers—and publicity stunts—is planning a Valentine’s Day’s wedding at a haunted house, and to consummate their vows in a coffin.

Kanchana Ketkaew, 36, who set a world record in 2002 for spending 32 days in a glass cage with 3,400 scorpions, plans to wed 29-year-old Bunthawee Siengwong—who set a Thai record for enduring 28 days with 1,000 centipedes. Kanchana’s world record was beaten in 2004.

The couple met while performing their respective stunts at a snake farm on the resort island of Koh Samui, said Somporn Naksuetrong, the general manager of the Thailand’s Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, which is sponsoring the wedding.

The couple will tie the knot Feb. 14 in a group ceremony dubbed “Til Death Do Us Part” at Ripley’s Haunted Adventure House, in the southern resort town of Pattaya, 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Bangkok.

They will wear bloodstained wedding clothes and partake in a traditional Thai ceremony in which elders bless the couple with holy water, Somporn said. But instead of following Thai tradition and heading to a “wedding room” after exchanging vows, the pair plans to climb into a coffin to consummate their union.

Most Ridiculous Item Of The Day (so far)

Keep this under your hat. If even a word of this lawsuit gets out, the ACLU will be all over it like fleas on a dog. Ol’ Sodomy lost the war and his country so now he is unleashing the real weapons of mass destruction ... lawyers. Be afraid. Be very afraid ...

Saddam To Sue Bush And Blair
Jan. 25, 2006 at 12:01PM
(WASHINGTON TIMES)

Defence lawyers for Saddam Hussein Wednesday distributed copies of a lawsuit against President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair for destroying Iraq.  The suit accuses Bush and Blair of committing war crimes by using weapons of mass destruction and internationally-banned weapons including enriched uranium and phosphoric and cluster bombs against unarmed Iraqi civilians, notably in Baghdad, Fallujah, Ramadi, al-Kaem and Anbar.

The Amman-based legal team had said Sunday that the ousted president intended to start legal action against the two leaders of the Iraq war in the International Criminal Court in the Hague, but the text of the suit was made available Wednesday. The suit also accuses the U.S. president and British prime minister of torturing Iraqi prisoners, destroying Iraq’s cultural heritage with the aim of eliminating an ancient civilization, and inciting internal strife.

Bush and Blair were also accused of polluting Iraq’s air, waters and environment. The lawsuit demanded that Bush and Blair appear before court to answer the charges filed against them and requested the harshest punishment in line with Dutch legislation and the rules of international and humanitarian laws. It also requested compensation for all material and moral damage inflicted on the Iraqi people.

Another Teacher Creature Feature

Now this is getting ridiculous. Really. No, I’m not referring to this latest teacher-student-sex escapade. I’m referring to her name. Cameo Patch? What’s up with that? And what’s up with this “informant” crap? It seems neither the student or the teacher could keep their mouths shut ...

imageimageSexy Substitute Teacher Has Relations With Boy
Woman, 29, facing up to 5 years for illicit activity with 17-year-old
(WORLDNETDAILY)

A 29-year-old substitute teacher in Utah is facing felony charges for allegedly performing oral sex on a 17-year-old male student. Cameo Patch was a fill-in instructor at Tooele High School, and was arrested after an informant disclosed her alleged relationship with the boy. The pair reportedly met in the classroom, but engaged in the alleged wrongdoing off campus after school. All indications are the sexual activity was consensual.

According to the police report, “… [Patch] and the juvenile met in a local restaurant, exchanged phone numbers, and arranged to meet to talk later in the evening. During the course of the meeting between the two, sexual activity between [Patch] and the juvenile occurred.” The informant stated Patch “performed oral sex” on the student, but did not engage in sexual intercourse.

The teacher has been charged with the third-degree felony of “unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old,” though she was originally charged with misdemeanor lewdness. Prosecutors say the felony applies in this case because the assailant is at least ten years older than the minor. The Tooele County School District issued a statement saying it “has removed [Patch] from the substitute pool.”

The woman, who faces up to five years in prison, has her initial court appearance slated for Feb. 6. This latest case joins a long list of women who have been accused or convicted of having illegal sexual activity with children.

It’s Like Watching A Fire

....Fascinating and Horrific at the same time.

Whenever Greg Gutfeld posts at the Huff-and-Blow, it sets off a firestorm of protest that is unmatched anywhere I’ve read.  This one is no exception.  I think his brief, saterical posts are nothing more than a vehicle to set up the raving comments section.  It’s a beautiful thing.

I Want to be a Woman

(Apologies to the Python boys)

Michael Jackson Spotted in Robe and Veil

MANAMA, Bahrain
Pop star Michael Jackson took a shopping trip to a Bahrain mall Wednesday, covering himself in a black abaya robe traditionally worn by Bahraini women and a veil hiding his face, along with three children _ apparently his _ with their faces covered with dark scarves.

Jackson, who seems to be settling in the Persian Gulf, was seen leaving Marina Mall in the Bahrain capital, holding a child by the hand. On the way out through a back door, he shook hands with security guards

He was wearing an abaya, a robe with long sleeves, under which his pants, white shirt and men’s shoes could be seen, and his head and face were wrapped in a black veil. He had black gloves on his hands.

The veil, abaya and gloves were of a style typically worn by conservative Bahraini women, though Jackson appeared to be wearing them to hide his identity.

With him was woman _ also in an abaya and jeans and a scarf over her head that partially covered her face _ who had the two other children. All three children’s faces were wrapped in black scarves, and they wore yellow shirts and sweatpants or khakis without robes. The woman’s identity was not known.

The woman asked photographers to respect their privacy saying they are scaring the children, as the five left in a White Lexus Infinity with darkened glass.

Cindy Screeches Again

Rob Port asks a very salient question: Can we question her patriotism yet?

CARACAS (AFP) - Anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan, mother of a US soldier killed in Iraq, joined more than 10,000 anti-globalization activists in Caracas, where she hailed Venezuela’s leftist President Hugo Chavez.

“I admire him for his resolve against my government and its meddling,” said Sheehan, who gained notoriety when she camped outside US President George W. Bush’s ranch last year to protest the Iraq war. She said she hoped to meet Chavez later in the week. [Emp mine -Ed.]

Denouncing your own government is one thing, but standing up in a hostile country and saying this is a horse of a different color. She talks about our “totalitarian” regime, but how long could she stand in Caracas and denounce Hugo Chavez without being “detained”?

Dress Code

Some days I wake up, drink my coffee, check the news and .... really want to go back to bed and pull the covers over my head. Today is one of those days, thanks to this news story below. It’s bad enough that the kid in this story is acting like a jerk (as teenagers sometimes do) but when the ACLU steps in and assists in this Moonbattery™, I have no choice but to decline further membership in the human race. Please refund my dues immediately ...

Male Student Wins Fight to Wear Skirt
January 25, 2006, 5:07 AM EST
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP)

A male high school student can wear a skirt to school after the American Civil Liberties Union reached an agreement with school officials. The ACLU announced the deal Tuesday. It will allow a Hasbrouck Heights School senior to wear a skirt to protest the school’s no-shorts policy. The district’s dress code bans shorts between Oct. 1 and April 15, but allows skirts, a policy 17-year-old Michael Coviello believes is discriminatory. “I’m happy to be able to wear skirts again to bring attention to the fact that the ban on shorts doesn’t make sense,” Coviello said in a statement.

The Hasbrouck Heights superintendent, Joseph C. Luongo, did not return telephone messages left Tuesday seeking comment. Coviello first wore a costume-style dress but high school officials told him to go home and change. The district’s superintendent then advised the Coviello to purchase everyday dresses and skirts at a retail store, which Coviello did, the ACLU said. But after a few days, he was sent home with a note from his principal saying if he wore a dress, kilt or skirt, he could no longer attend school.
