Saturday Open Forum: Deep Thoughts
Here’s something for all of you to gnaw on this evening. Nothing too serious but a few brain-teasers to keep your minds sharp ....
- Should Democratic politicians be reprimanded for publicly calling the President names while he is overseas trying to build diplomatic relations with other countries, like Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid calling President Bush a “loser” yesterday?
- If you were a US soldier in Iraq, which would be more important to you: (a) better body armor, (b) a better strategy for handling the “insurgents”, or (c) more letters, phone calls and care packages from home?
- Would you be in favor of the US Army being deployed along the Mexican border with orders to “shoot-to-kill” any illegal aliens crossing the border?
- The Democratic Party is steadily losing ground. What can they do to regain the confidence of the American people? Do you care if they ever do?
- If you knew the world as we know it was going to end tomorrow from an asteroid collision, what three things would you do today?
- Is the filibuster a good or a bad thing to have in the Senate? Did you know that “cloture” (the vote to end a filibuster) was originally made law at the request of President Woodrow Wilson in 1917, and was set at 2/3 of the Senate (66 votes), was later reduced to 60 votes when the Democrats were in power in 1975 (to get around Republican “obstructionists"), and is now being proposed to be further reduced to 51 votes by Republicans (to get around Democratic “obstructionists")?
- Will the Cubs ever win the World Series? When? Should George Steinbrenner be allowed to keep buying championships for the Yankees?

Barking Moonbat Of The Week
arely do I get a chance to introduce a newcomer to the Moonbat stage here but occasionally luck comes my way. Normally, the “usual suspects” are featured week after tireless week for their idiotic behavior. This week is an exception though. We are proud to give the award to this “rookie” and wish him well as he embarks on his career of Moonbattery.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to introduce .... the giant turd from Canada known as “Mister Floatie” ....
VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)—The dumping of raw sewage into the Pacific Ocean was an issue one man wanted to take to an all-candidates meeting in the Victoria-Beacon Hill riding Friday morning, but the costumed crusader was not allowed in. James Skwarok arrived dressed up as “Mr. Floatie,” a two-metre tall turd representing POOP, People Opposed to Outfall Pollution. He wanted to highlight Victoria’s daily dumping of 120 million litres of raw sewage, but when he was barred from the meeting he said the refusal left him “a little bummed out.” ‘Mr. Floatie’ - a man dressed up as a giant turd - crashed a Victoria all-candidates meeting to draw attention to the city’s practice of dumping raw sewage in the ocean. |
So there you go. Moonbats in the US are just too intense and shrill, moonbats overseas are just too weird and murderous, but .... for the most entertaining moonbattery in the whole wide world you just can’t beat our neighbor to the north. Here’s to Canada! Cheers!
Memo: I secretly suspect Dan D., our BMEWS member in Canuckistan had something to do with this. C’mon, Dan .... confess!

Weekend News Bytes
Insanity and Moonbat behavior never take the weekend off so here is your reading list for a bright , sunny Saturday in May ....
- Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. If she’s a teenager, even hell throws in the towel.
- According to a guest on Oprah, applying vaginal cream and hemorrhoidal ointment to your face every night can make you look younger. Yes, but what part of your body am I kissing?
- Legislators in Maine are preparing to pass a bill to move the state into Canada. Just in time, of course.
- Man carves runaway bride on piece of toast for sale on E-Bay. Forgive me, but isn’t that a .... “pop-tart”?
- Prostitutes in San Francisco can now earn a college degree in their “field of expertise”. Would that be the “Bachelorette Of Intercourse” curriculum?
SAN FRANCISCO - It’s higher education of the horizontal variety. About 25 sex workers went to a college of sorts, sitting through lectures on effective marketing, stress reduction and condom-application skills.
“We are still illegal,” instructor Kimberlee Cline said before her 20-minute demonstration. “If we want to be treated as business professionals, we need to act ethically within the industry.”

Viewpoint: Homosexual Activists
he headline in the Washington Post reads “Gay Groups Assail Sperm Bank Rule”. Without even reading the article, you can probably guess what is going on here.
So called “gay groups” are ranting and raving over a new regulation from the Food and Drug Administration, scheduled to go into effect this month, that calls on sperm banks to reject anonymous donations from men who have been sexually active with other men within five years. The homosexual men are up in arms because they think they are being “stigmatized” and discriminated against. The ACLU has probably already been contacted.
Are these people being forced to ride in the back of the bus? Are they being made to use separate drinking fountains? Are they being forced to live in a separate part of town? Are they being denied the right to vote?
The answer to all of the above is, of course, no. They are being denied nothing and are not being seperated from anything. So why are they so upset? They are upset because obviously the government (and the general population) don’t want their sperm. The regulation is merely an attempt to try to prevent sperm from a high risk group from infecting the population. Intravenous drug users and other “high risk” groups are also included in the new regulation.
The homosexual men respond by saying that AIDS is now a heterosexual problem too. I respond by saying that yes, it probably is thanks to the bisexuals and others who transmit it from the homosexual and drug using population. Face it, this disease first entered and spread through the population mainly from homosexuals and that group is still where the majority of AIDS cases appear.
No one is practicing “intolerance” or “discrimination” here. No more so than quarantines of the previous century did. The intent is to isolate an infectious disease and try to keep the general population healthy. Are homosexual men saying that their petty little feelings are more important than the life of another human being? I certainly hope not. If they are, then they have lost all semblance of sanity and civic responsibility.
It is past time to stop all of this intolerance being practiced by every moonbat liberal group with hurt feelings. Attempts to reason with them obviously do not work because they always have the ACLU and teams of lawyers ready to do their bidding and force their agenda on the rest of the population.
So what can we, the general public do? You can write your Congress-critter, which may or may not do any good. What are our choices then? Not much, it seems. Are we being forced to make dangerous decisions and put our lives at risk just to placate a small minority (less than 2%) of the population? You bet we are. The backlash may be coming sooner than these petty little tyrants expect .. in a form they will regret. I believe that if they keep up with this insanity, real prejudice and intolerance will be the only result. In fact, when these groups place their feelings above the risk of death to others, they may receive real hatred and violence before it is all over.
It would be a far, far better thing if these groups would just remain monogamous, practice safe sex and leave the rest of us alone. Don’t count on it, though. That would require common sense and civility on their part.

I Blame The Teacher
A young boy in high school at Columbas, GA is now suspended from school because he took a phone call from his mother, who is on active duty in Iraq.
Kevin Francois gave up his lunch break to talk to his mother, but it ended up costing him the rest of the school year.
Francois, a junior at Spencer High School in Columbus, was suspended for disorderly conduct Wednesday after he was told to give up his cell phone at lunch while talking to his mother who is deployed in Iraq, he said.
According to the Muscogee County School District Board of Education’s policy, students are allowed to have cell phones in school, but cannot use them during school hours.
“They are really allowed to have those cell phones so that after band or after chorus or after the debate and practices are over they have to coordinate with the parents,” said Alfred Parham, assistant principal at Spencer. “They’re not supposed to use them for conversating back and forth during school because if they were allowed to do that, they could be text messaging each other for test questions.”
Francois said he told the teacher, “This is my mom in Iraq. I’m not about to hang up on my mom.”
Francois said the teacher tried to take the phone, causing it to hang up.
The student said he then went with the teacher to the school’s office where he surrendered his phone. His mother called again at 12:37 p.m. and left a message scolding her son about hanging up and telling him to answer the phone when she calls.
I’m sorry but this story makes me extremely angry. I would like nothing better than to beat the teacher involved in this case severely about the ears and teach him/her what domination games feels like when you’re on the receiving end. DAMN! That pisses me off!

More Punishment For Abu Ghraib
Lynndie England may be off the hook for now but Brigadier General Janis Karpinski, who was in charge of the prison is being demoted. They’re taking away her star and giving her the bird, demoting her to Colonel ....
The Army will demote and issue a formal letter of reprimand to the only general punished in the abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
Army Reserve Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski will be reduced to the rank of colonel as a result of an Army Inspector General investigation into a scandal that tarnished the United States’ reputation abroad and set in motion a string of high-level inquiries.
In a statement released Thursday, the Army said Karpinski was guilty of dereliction of duty and shoplifting. Investigators did not substantiate allegations that she made a false statement to an investigating team and failed to obey a lawful order.
Karpinski was relieved of command of the 800th Military Police Brigade on April 8.
Not knowing all the details, I’m not sure whether this is good or not. I do know that Karpinski was very critical of her senior officers after the whole “scandal” broke and did a lot of complaining to the media. Maybe this is just payback. What say you ....?
Question: What’s up with the “shoplifting” charge?

Red States & Blue States
With a little orange thrown in for good measure. Here are the poll results from Britain’s election yesterday. It looks kinda like the US election map in a way. Blair’s Labour Party took the large cities and major industrial centers while Conservatives won the vote out in the country. Of course, Scotland and Wales went for the Liberal Democrats for some strange reason ....
In a seemingly unrelated story, a record number of Brits declared bankruptcy this year. Are you sure there’s no connection?

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
- Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
- Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
