Public Display Of Affection

batAnyone who has served in the US military knows what PDA means and that it is against regulations. Our military does this to discourage young recruits (and sometimes old hands) from making complete asses of themselves in public. Fortunately, most people with common sense know better than to slobber all over each other in public as it does tend to embaress other people around them. Not that there is anything wrong with a little “face-time”, so to speak but there is a time and a place for it, right? Unfortunately, in Sweden there is a sexual discrimination policeman, appropriately named HomO (no, I’m not making this up) who recently fined a restaurant owner 50,000 crowns ($7,100) who had asked two lesbians to leave the premises because they were kissing. In a related story, the Swedish crown is equal to fourteen cents US .... that alone explains a lot ....

The Court of Appeals in Stockholm ordered restaurant owner Aziz Cakir to pay 50,000 crowns ($7,100) in damages and to cover the legal costs of Sweden’s ombudsman against sexual discrimination, HomO, which filed the appeal.

Cakir asked Anna Fernstrom and Susanne Gustafsson to leave his restaurant after they kissed and later told police he did not let anyone engage in such behavior on his premises regardless of their sexual orientation.

Ahhhh, Europe .... you are sliding down the slippery slope straight into oblivion. Is it any wonder that all the smart people in Europe left hundreds of years ago to come to America?

Freedom Of Religion

bat Question: what do Saudi Arabia and our nation’s school systems have in common? Answer: group prayer to a Christian God is illegal. Yep, the ragheads in the Kingdom of Saud still insist that praying to any other god than Allah within the borders of their kingdom is against the law. They recently arrested 40 Pakistani Christians for the horrible crime of group prayer in their house. To make matters worse, the “criminals” actually had in their possession weapons of mass resurrection, i.e. Christian books and tapes.

In a rare official rebuke of a close ally last year, Washington accused Saudi Arabia of severe violations of religious freedom. “Freedom of religion is not recognized or protected under the country’s laws and basic religious freedoms are denied to all but those who adhere to the state-sanctioned version of Sunni Islam,” the State Department said in an annual report.

Now if we could only get the State Department to issue an official “rebuke” to the National Education Association and several hundred Constitutional revisionist judges who practice the same religious censorship in our nation’s schools and public buildings we might demonstrate to the Saudis how to play nice. Then again, the NEA and the Democratic Party which supports them would never stand for that, would they?

Securing Our Borders

batThe feds are offering a new program to local police agencies in several states to enroll police officers in a program to catch and deport illegal aliens. The program is already active in Alabama and Florida and under construction in Connecticut, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Now, Kalifornia (of all places) wants to join in. Of course, the usual suspects are screaming from the rooftops that this idea is all wrong and chaos will ensue, not to mention the fact that illegals might actually be deported. I guess the Left is concerned with who will tend their gardens and clean their mansions when the illegal Mess-cans are all gone.

Immigrant rights groups insist the move will discourage people from reporting domestic violence or other crimes for fear of deportation and lead to racial profiling and other abuses.

“We’re 100 percent against it,” said Amin David, president of Los Amigos of Orange County. “It will have a chilling effect on our community.”

Hey, Senor David .... chill this! If they want to come to this country, let them do it the right way and once they get here, let’s make sure they obey the laws. You got a problem with that?

There Goes The Neighborhood

batAs if we don’t have enough to worry about in the blogosphere, now we have to contend with a full frontal assault from the Hollyweirdo Left. Arianna Huffington is going to start her own blog site and is inviting her Kalifornia & Hollywood friends to join in. I guess since Air America was such a flop these people have decided to attack America through the internet. Will they ever learn that we don’t need Leftists telling us how to live our lives and trying to force their agenda down our throats? Probably not, it seems. I still remember Huffington in the debates in Kalifornia when she ran against Schwarzenegger for governor. Never was a more shrill voice heard (except from Shrillary Clinton). I can’t wait to see what her blog looks like. It should be .... interesting.

Having prominent people join the blogosphere, Ms. Huffington said in an interview, “is an affirmation of its success and will only enrich and strengthen its impact on the national conversation.” Among those signed up to contribute are Walter Cronkite, David Mamet, Nora Ephron, Warren Beatty, James Fallows, Vernon E. Jordan Jr., Maggie Gyllenhaal, Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr., Diane Keaton, Norman Mailer and Mortimer B. Zuckerman. “This gives me a chance to sound off with a few words or a long editorial,” said Mr. Cronkite, 88, the longtime “CBS Evening News” anchorman. “It’s a medium that is new and interesting, and I thought I’d have some fun.”

With this cast of “prominent people” sharing their intellectual insights, we’re all going to be enlightened to the nth degree. I can’t wait ....

Let It Be ….

Many of you may have wondered why I asked the first question in the “Deep Thought” post below. Judging from the answers I received, some of you may have guessed my motive for throwing that question in. For those who guessed that I am still saddened by the loss of Vilmar and have been wracking my brain to come up with a way to heal the split between us .... you are correct. I read all of your answers, thought it over for quite some time and even talked to a few of you on the phone.

Swallowing one’s pride is never easy. Apologizing for something that you feel is not entirely your fault is even harder. Reaching out to a lost friend who insists on rebuffing your every entreaty is the hardest of all. I have done all of that today and have been unsuccessful it seems. On the surface, it seems Vilmar and I can remain friends but I don’t expect to hear from him any time soon.

I am posting here the e-mail exchange between Vilmar and myself today in the hope that everyone here who remembers Vilmar will finally let the matter go. I am asking everyone to please stop hounding me about Vilmar and asking me what happened and where he is. Let it be, OK? Just let it be ....

Deep Thought

In line with Steel’s recent posts, wherein he attempted to define the meaning of life, the universe and everything with input from you readers, I present my own questions for your weekend thoughts. Today’s “uber-topic” is war and death. Give it your best shot ....

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
