All Dolled Up

“S&M Barbie lashed by public”

image

Ooh, more! I’ve been a very bad girl!

Because, you know, the folks in Britain don’t have anything else to worry about, so they go after a doll that comes with a “naughty outfit”. Not that their own daughters don’t wear nearly the same outfit out to clubs or anything. Or that Posh and the rest of the Spice Gurrlz pushed this look years ago. Barbie has always reflected the current times and trends, not lead them. That’s why she stays popular. And I guess they don’t sell Bratztm or any of those other totally oversexed dolls over there? The ones that only have hooker outfits available for them?

BARBIE’S new S&M look has whipped up a storm – with protesters dubbing it “filth”.

The doll’s image is transformed with kinky fishnets, motorcycle jacket, black gloves and boots.

Makers Mattel say Black Canary Barbie, out in September, is based on a DC comic superhero of the same name.

But religious group Christian Voice said: “Barbie has always been on the tarty side and this is taking it too far.

A children’s doll in sexually suggestive clothing is irresponsible – it’s filth.”

Of course it’s the Christians who object in print. The muslims just set the toy store on fire. Ken Doll was not available for comment, although he was spotted at a local garden center happily buying large rolls of duct tape and some garden hose.

Personally, I don’t see how this is any worse than Catwoman Barbie or Elecktra Barbie, both part of the movie idols series / Marvel Comics series of outfits. Besides, it could be worse!

image image

PS - If you go and look it up, it turns out that the Black Canary comic book character, while being some sort of super-heroine, is really all about snagging a husband (Green Arrow), fretting over his proposal, and figuring out what to wear to the wedding. How much more classically Barbie can you get than that?

Firms must promote union membership to win government contracts

Excellent strategy Comradeski. Today England, tomorrow ? Who knows.  Looks like more union bs. They failed to totally ruin the country in the past. (but came close enuff) Well you know the old saying, if at first you don’t swindle, cajole, threaten and succeed ...  lie and browbeat some more til ya do.

By Rupert Neate
Last Updated: 7:42AM BST 15/07/2008

Companies will be told they must promote trade union membership if they want to win government contracts.

Businesses will today be told that they must demonstrate how they will “build good relations” with unions if they are to win a share of the £115 billion worth of public service contracts on offer.

Employees working on government projects in the private sector must also be given literacy and numeracy training if they lack basic skills. The new rules will apply to public-service delivery contracts awarded by central government but not to suppliers of equipment or other goods.

The announcement comes after Unite, Britain’s biggest union, gave guarantees underwriting Labour’s accounts.

Tom Watson, Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Cabinet office, will outline the rules in joint statement between ministers, trade unions and business leaders at Downing Street this morning, before submitting a written statement to parliament.

Mr Watson said: “We all have a challenge to increase the skills of British workers.

“This will help us to improve the employability of British workers in organisations that receive government contracts and deliver on the government’s skills agenda.”

(No Comrade fish breath. It’ll allow unions to force ppl to become members even if they don’t want to. The usual union ploy.)

Public-sector contracts account for nearly 6 per cent of the gross domestic product and employ more than 1.2 million people.

Union membership has halved over the past 25 years. Many large firms that undertake government contracts do deal with unions but the staff of smaller contractors, such as those who operate care homes, are not unionised.

The new rules come as Britain faces a summer of strikes over below-inflation pay increases. Thousands of schools are set to close tomorrow and up to 600,000 council workers will go on strike for 48 hours.

Gordon Brown insisted the government was not bowing to union pressure. The Prime Minister said. “I have made it absolutely clear we are not returning to the 70s or the 80s, we are not returning to the days of secondary picketing, we are not returning to trade union legislation which is written by trade unions themselves.”

Osama Bin Laden’s right-hand man, shopping in London.

Brits must be hard pressed keeping civil about this pond scum.

Abu Qatada, Osama Bin Laden’s right-hand man, shopping in London
By Duncan Gardham, Security Correspondent
Last Updated: 1:32PM BST 10/07/2008

Abu Qatada, the man once described as Osama bin Laden’s right hand man in Europe, was pictured out walking the streets on the third anniversary of the 7/7 terror bombings.

image

This photograph shows Qatada doing the family shopping in London.

It was taken on Monday, the anniversary of the July 7 attacks, and can now be published after a court order banning recent pictures of the preacher was lifted.

Qatada managed to carry a pack of heavy bottles of Diet Coke, even though he has in the past claimed incapacity benefits for a bad back.

Under his other arm was a family pack of toilet rolls and on his back was a green rucksack for other items.

Earlier he smiled in the summer sunshine as he exchanged a joke about his prayer beads with a woman in the street.

His thinning hair, after nearly six years in jail, was covered by a white Islamic prayer cap, but round his right ankle, covered by a white sock, was the electronic tag which ensures he returns home.

Qatada, 47, is allowed out of his house for two hours a day – one in the morning and one in the afternoon- under the strict terms of his bail.

He was released from Long Lartin high security jail in Worcestershire jail last month after the Government failed to have him deported to Jordan where he is wanted for terrorism offences.

The Appeal Court ruled that Qatada would not get a fair trial in Jordan because statements against him may have been extracted by torture.

The case is being taken to the House of Lords but in the mean time Qatada’s family is understood to be claiming around £47,000 a year in benefits - £500 a week in child benefits for the four of his five children under 18, £210 for income support, £150 for incapacity benefit, £45 in council tax benefit – along with a council home worth around £800,000.

(DOUBLE ALL THE MONEY FIGURES AND YOU’LL GET USA DOLLARS.  isn’t there anyone who can rid the world of his shadow? apologies to Sir Winston)

Qatada has been described by the Special Immigration Appeals Commission, as a “truly dangerous individual” who was “heavily involved, indeed at the centre of terrorist activities associated with al-Qa’eda.”

They took the view that he had given religious authority to numerous high profile terrorists across the world, including the leaders of the September 11 attacks.

His bail conditions say he is specifically banned from receiving visits or communicating with a long list of individuals including Osama bin laden, his deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri, and the preacher Abu Hamza.

He is also banned from attending a mosque or providing religious instruction to anyone other than his wife and children, and may not publish any statement without prior approval.

FUNDING FOR THE ARTS BUT FIRST, SHOW US YOUR BISEXUALS, HOMOSEXUALS, LESBIANS OR ‘NOT KNOWNS’

BMEWS readers, it just doesn’t get any crazier then this.  Maybe.

A couple of days ago I think I said something similar, except that I also qualified things by saying every time I claimed to have found the dumbest item worthy of a Moonbat award, darn if something else didn’t come up to challenge that opinion and so the last post I did on a dumb story I left open.  That is, I refrained from saying yet again, this is the stupidest thing so far.

Well, being as how the Brits continually come up with things that outdo themselves, I can’t say it won’t get dumber then this either.  Who knows what politically correct lunacy they’ll follow this with.  But I’m certain they’ll come up with something.  They have so far.

OK first, I have a url >>> http://www.mediauk.com/magazines/344246/compass-wessex, but it was no help at all in supplying a proper link to the story.
I am doing a word for word copy here.  I suppose I could have tried to do a scan, but my software isn’t good enuff to do a readable copy justice.
So finally, here we go.

bat bat

SHAME on the ARTS COUNCIL

Actors Ian Mckellen, Ralph Fiennes and Kevin Spacy are outraged by the Arts Council’s new rules for obtaining funding.

The council now REQUIRES all arts organizations to state how many board members are Bisexual, Homosexual, Heterosexual, Lesbian or ‘Not Known.’

It says it’s necessary to see if the applicants are representative.  “We see diversity as broader then race, ethnicity, faith, and disability,” says Audrey Roy, the director of grants.

(I edited out the word ‘gay’ and used the proper term Homosexual altho I confess I was tempted to use the queer word. Bothers me that a perfectly good word like gay has been hijacked by deviants and we all have to live with it. )

So then. This week we have been treated to, a study that proves babies can be racist if they make a face at spicy food, and a call again for sex ed. for 5 years olds.  What next?  Stay Tuned!

Drew sticks his nose in:

Morning Peiper. I think these are the links you’re looking for?

The Arts Council has encountered ridicule and anger over attempts to force theatre and museum trustees to disclose their sexuality to obtain funding.

New grant forms require arts organisations to state how many board members are bisexual, gay, heterosexual, lesbian or “not known”.

Sir Ian McKellen and Vanessa Redgrave are among leading figures of the stage who have condemned the move, which appears to discriminate against mainstream venues.

Oscar-nominated Sir Ian, who is gay, said: “It sounds extraordinary. It shouldn’t be on a form. It’s quite inappropriate.”

Redgrave said: “Everyone should put down ‘trisexual’, whoever you are.

Britain has become the world’s leading population of trisexuals.”

They were joined in their condemnation by Christopher Hampton, whose adaptation of God of Carnage, starring Ralph Fiennes, has just opened at the Gielgud Theatre. He said: “It’s bureaucracy and political correctness gone mad.”

The application form notes that the question is for government purposes only and will not enter into the grant decision, but that claim was contradicted by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Its spokesman said: “We appreciate that, as a responsible public body they need to monitor their overall grant-making programmes. But it is absolutely not the case that sexual orientation monitoring is a government requirement.”

Condemnation of the question spanned the arts. Julian Spalding, the former director of galleries and museums in Sheffield, Manchester and Glasgow, said: “I can’t see what relevance it’s got. It’s a horrible invasion into one’s personal and private life.” He added: “What they like to do in bed is not the Arts Council’s business.”

The Arts Council has defended its decision to ask grant applicants to state their sexuality on application forms after the policy was ridiculed by stars such as Sir Ian McKellen and Vanessa Redgrave.

Yes, this is major moonbattery. Hello, it’s the thee-ate-ah ... where the percentage of “other than hetero” is roughly 5 times greater than almost all other occupational groups. No kidding. So who cares? Shows can be good or bad whether written/produced/choreographed/acted in by people of any sexual orientation. I don’t think that aspect matters a whit.

Relatives of July 7 bomber hold PARTY at his grave to ‘celebrate his life’

Bombing victims and famlies outraged!

By Rebecca Camber
Last updated at 6:11 PM on 07th July 2008

A banquet fit for a ‘martyr’, this is how one of the July 7 suicide bombers was remembered today.

On the third anniversary of the terror attacks which killed 52 people and injured many more, the family of Shehzad Tanweer held a party to ‘celebrate his life’ and ‘remember him as a martyr’.

Today the families of those murdered in the attacks reacted with outrage to the secret ceremony held at a village in Pakistan where 70 guests gathered to offer prayers and blessings for the suicide bomber whose grave is considered to be a ‘shrine of a big saint’

When Tanweer detonated his bomb at Aldgate station on July 7, 2005 he killed seven innocent people as well as himself.

Together with Mohammed Sidique Khan, 30, Hasib Hussain,18, and 19-year-old Jermaine Lindsay, the four bombers blew up three Underground trains and a bus killing 52 people.

As thousands mourned in Britain, in Pakistan there were prayers uttered for his soul and verses of the Koran were read out.

At the commemorative dinner held by Tanweer’s uncle, 42-year-old property developer Tahir Pervez at his home in Samundari, guests were treated to two courses of sweet rice and salted rice with curry and beef prepared by a renowned local chef.

And to mark the occasion, rice was distributed amongst villagers.

For the last two years, the family gathering has been held in secret at his grave, but this year police urged the family not to hold a memorial at the site.

His headstone- the largest in the cemetery of the village- bears the phrase ‘La ilaha il Mohammed dur rasool Allah’ which means ‘There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his messenger.’

Local police officer, Zafar Iqbal said: ‘At least 60 to 70 guests, who included villagers and close relatives were invited.

‘They recited the holy Koran inside Tahir’s home and prayed for his soul.

‘We told them not to celebrate the anniversary of his death publicly and call many guests.

‘We also told them to avoid going to the graveyard.

‘During the last two years there was a big celebration and people in the area have accepted his grave as a shrine of a big saint.

‘That is why this time we told his uncle to avoid a big celebration.’

But despite police requests, some villagers insisted on laying flowers at Tanweer’s grave today.

The celebration happened on the same day that hundreds of mourners gathered at the four sites, Russell Square, Aldgate and Edgware Road Tube stations, and Tavistock Square where bombs ripped through London’s public transport network.

Today relatives of the victims condemned the celebration.

Pamela Bond, whose son Jamie Gordon, 30, died in the Tavistock Square blast said: ‘It’s so bad I can’t take it in.

‘To celebrate a “martyr”? It’s just too horrible.

‘But we can’t do anything about it.

‘If his family lived in England they would see the hurt it does to celebrate something like this, but in Pakistan they obviously have a different view of things.’

Sean Cassidy, whose 22-year-old son Ciaran died in the King’s Cross bombing, said: ‘This is glorifying terrorism no matter how you look at it.

‘It is encouraging other people to carry out attacks and it’s not right, especially on a day like today.

‘It is insensitive and inappropriate to hold this on the third anniversary. The government should not even have done him the courtesy of returning [Tanweer’s] remains to Pakistan.’

His daughter Lisa added: ‘It’s really upsetting.

‘At a time when Muslim people are trying to gain people’s respect and put an end to prejudice, it doesn’t paint them in a positive light.

‘I feel it is extremely insensitive what’s going on in Pakistan.

‘They are obviously not thinking about those 52 who were murdered or what this man actually did.’

Stacey Beer, who lost her brother Phil, 22, in the King’s Cross explosion said: ‘It’s disgusting.

‘I really can’t believe it, although nothing surprises me anymore about these people.

‘It hurts even more today. I can’t really take it in, I’m so disgusted that they could do this.’

Today a low-key ceremony was held at the railway station where the four suicide bombers set out on their mission of terror.

London Mayor Boris Johnson joined Tessa Jowell and transport chiefs to lay flowers outside King’s Cross station at 8.50am, the time when the first three bombs went off.

There was also a number of private meetings for survivors and victims’ families.

Andrew Dismore, Labour MP for Hendon said: ‘It is absolutely appalling that his family are choosing to mark the date in this way. What are the Pakistan government doing about this?

‘Five people from five different ethnic and religious groups died from my constituency on 7 July7 2005 and this is a damning insult to their memory and their family members.

‘Most Muslims would be absolutely horrified, as I am, that Shehzad Tanweer is being remembered by some people as a martyr.’

Andrew Dismore, MP for Hendon, added: ‘I think it’s one of the most appalling things I have ever heard of.

‘It’s absolutely sick. What does that say to the relatives of the victims who are still suffering?

‘And what about those who are injured too?

‘To hold a celebratory party. That’s just appalling.’

note to Drew.  Can we keep this on top for Monday somehow?  Unless there something even more stupidly bizarre out there. But surely there can’t be. This HAS to be the ultimate. Right?

POLICE SNIFFER DOGS MAY WEAR BOOTEES TO AVOID OFFENDING MUSLIMS

Police sniffer dogs may be forced to wear bootees when entering mosques and Muslims’ homes to avoid causing offence.

In a bid to respect cultural sensitivities, the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) is considering the move while drawing up new guidelines on the use of police dogs.

Many Muslims refuse to have direct contact with the animals, which are considered “unclean” in Islamic culture.

An ACPO spokeswoman said current guidelines were being re-drafted, but the suggestion that police dogs wear bootees had not been ruled in or out.

“Where possible the police will take cultural sensitivities into account, providing this does not interfere with effective operational policing,” she said.

The suggestion comes after a police force apologised to Islamic leaders after a police advert featured a puppy sitting in an officer’s hat.

sex education from age four, And it’s gonna be compulsory.

Age four?  I know kids are sharper and more advanced then my age group in our younger days.  But FOUR?  How can a four year old relate to this stuff?
How would a teacher approach the subject?

Children ‘to be given compulsory sex education from age four’
By Sarah Harris
Last updated at 12:40 AM on 05th July 2008

Children as young as four are set to be given compulsory sex education in primary school.

They will be taught the names of body parts and basic ideas about different relationships.
Government advisers claim that ‘gradual education’ from such a young age would help to stop children from rushing into sex when they are older.

They argue that the sex education that children receive in science classes does not go far enough.

But the recommendations caused a storm of protest yesterday, with family campaigners claiming that the views of parents and teachers are being ignored.

Norman Wells, director of the pressure group Family and Youth Concern, said: ‘What this is really all about is the sex education establishment trying to force schools to do something many parents - and many teachers - are uncomfortable with.’

At present, primary heads and governors decide whether or not to provide sex education and what it should involve beyond the compulsory science requirements laid down by the national curriculum.

They must have a policy on whether or not they provide sex education. If they do provide it, usually in personal, social and health education (PSHE) classes, parents have the right to withdraw their children.

But the fpa - formerly the Family Planning Association - the sexual health advice service Brook and the Sex Education Forum are recommending the introduction of compulsory lessons. They are taking part in a Government review of Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) in primary and secondary schools.

The charities sit on a panel, which is currently examining ‘the right age to begin teaching what the key messages are and content that young people should receive at each key stage’.

They have pre-empted publication of their final report later this month and publicly announced their recommendation for statutory sex education from primary school onwards. This would bring sex and relationship education on to the curriculum alongside other compulsory subjects such as maths and English.

Brook chief executive Simon Blake said: ‘All the evidence shows that if you start sex and relationships education early - before children start puberty, before they feel sexual attraction - they start having sex later.

‘They are much more likely to use contraception and practise safe sex.’

Anna Martinez, head of the Sex Education Forum, confirmed they are recommending making PSHE statutory to give it ‘the high status it deserves as an essential part of all children’s education’.

As the mother of a 12-year-old girl, I feel helpless rage at morally bankrupt ‘sex education’ that just encourages under-age flings

But Mr Wells said there is no evidence to suggest that starting sex education at the age of four would reduce sexually transmitted infections and abortion rates among teenagers.

He added: ‘It’s quite extraordinary that the fpa and Brook should be calling on the Government to impose something on every child in every school that has no proven benefit whatsoever.

‘Schools already have to have a sex education policy, but that policy must be developed in close consultation with parents, and schools must be sensitive to the wishes of parents.

‘But the fpa want to take parents out of the equation and remove discretion from schools.

‘It’s vital that parents’ views should continue to be respected and that schools should remain sensitive to parental concerns on such a controversial issue.’

A spokesman for the Department for Children, Schools and Families insisted that no final decision has been made by ministers on the subject yet.

He said: ‘Effective sex and relationships education is essential for young people to make safe and healthy choices about their lives and prevent early pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

‘That is why Government is currently reviewing the delivery of SRE in schools to improve the quality and consistency of provision to young people.

‘The steering group, jointly chaired by Schools Minister Jim Knight and a member of the UK Youth Parliament, will make recommendations to Government later this month.’

EYE CANDY AT AGE ELEVEN?  AS IN, 11?  KINDA YOUNG NO? WHAT’S WRONG WITH MOM HERE?

OK, I know there’s gonna be those who say this little girl might be “more mature” then the average 11 yr old.  Uh huh.  I really don’t buy that at all.
I think mommy dearest is living her life thru her kid and robbing her of a normal girlhood.  But what do I know.  I’m not a parent.  Neither am I a prude.
This kid looks awesome!  That’s the problem.  She shouldn’t.

And what does the little girl have to say?  here ya go.

Ask Sasha how she sees herself and she replies: ‘Blonde, pretty, dumb - I don’t need brains.’ Her mum laughs her head off at this, proud that the child is so like her.

Drew is gonna hafta come up with a special catagory for stuff like this.  I mean, stoopid ppl isn’t enuff. I just couldn’t bring myself to file this under ‘sex’ and you can understand I hope.

Mummy’s little Lolita: The 11-year-old girl whose beauty treatments cost £300 a month to make her look like Barbie
By Jenny Johnston
Last updated at 12:27 AM on 05th July 2008

She wore her first set of false eyelashes at eight, and her beauty treatments cost £300 a month.  A sick abuse of an 11-year-old? ‘No’, insists Sasha’s mother, ‘I just want her to be famous...’
At 11, Sasha Bennington is too young to remember the days when Jordan was just a country and being branded ‘fake’ was something to be ashamed of.

But maybe the youngster’s biggest tragedy is that her mother, Jayne, 31, is in no hurry to paint a picture of how it used to be.

image
Jayne is talking breezily about how Sasha had her first set of false nails glued on at eight, and now enjoys the sort of rigorous beauty regime - hair extensions, fake tans, pedicures - that was once the preserve of porn stars and Dolly Parton, not school children from Burnley in Lancashire.

Still, times have changed. ‘All the kids are at it now,’ insists Jayne. ‘We spend about £300 a month on beauty treatments for her.

‘Sasha’s friends are the same. All girls their age are. Of course they are! Why else would you be able to buy make-up for pre-teens at Boots?

‘Perhaps it’s different in country areas, where they don’t need to grow up so fast. But, around big cities, girls have got to be more forward and act older than they are. That’s just the way it is.

‘I don’t understand why people get so upset about it. None of it is permanent. Tans wash off. Hair extensions come out. Why all the fuss?’

Just over a year ago, there was fuss galore when Jayne entered Sasha (then ten) in the junior Miss British Isles competition - Britain’s first adult-style beauty pageant for children.

Students allegedly disciplined after refusing to kneel down and “pray to Allah”

I’d like to write something biting and snarky and clever.  Mind a blank.  I keep thinking, maybe this is simply a mistake in reporting by The Telegraph.
They’ll do a retraction soon.  ?  What are the chances this is real?

In other headlines from this side of the water,
Sex Ed for FOUR YEAR OLDS is back on the agenda.

Knife Crime Eclipses Terrorism as a top police priority.

By Nick Britten
Last Updated: 12:37AM BST 05/07/2008

Two schoolboys were allegedly disciplined after refusing to kneel down and “pray to Allah” during a religious education lesson.

“I am absolutely furious my daughter was made to take part in it and I don’t find it acceptable”
Karen Williams, parent

It was claimed that the boys, from a year seven class of 11 and 12-year-olds, were given detention after refusing to take part in a practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped.

Yesterday parents accused the school of breaching their human rights by forcing them to take part in the exercise.

One, Sharon Luinen, said: “This isn’t right, it’s taking things too far. I understand that they have to learn about other religions. I can live with that but it is taking it a step too far to be punished because they wouldn’t join in Muslim prayer.

“Making them pray to Allah, who isn’t who they worship, is wrong and what got me is that they were told they were being disrespectful.”

Another parent Karen Williams, 38, whose 12-year-old daughter is a classmate of the boys, said: “I am absolutely furious my daughter was made to take part in it and I don’t find it acceptable.

“The teacher had gone into the class and made them watch a short film and then said ‘we are now going out to pray to Allah’.

“Then two boys got detention and all the other children missed their refreshments’ break.”

She added: “Not only was it forced upon them, my daughter was told off for not doing it right.

“They’d never done it before and they were supposed to do it in another language.”

She said the pupils were asked if they had water on them, and when one girl produced a bottle, the teacher began washing her feet with it.

Her husband Keith, 44, a painter and decorator, said: “The school is wonderful but this one teacher has made a major mistake. It seems to be happening throughout society. People think they can ride roughshod over our beliefs and the way we live.”

The alleged incident, at the Alsager school, one of Cheshire’s top performing schools, happened on Tuesday afternoon. The teacher, Alison Phillips, the school’s subject leader in RE, is understood to be staying away from the school until the furore dies down, although she has not been suspended.

She is said to have got prayer mats out of the cupboard and also asked children to wear Islamic headdresses.

Deputy headmaster Keith Plant said: “I have spoken to the teacher and she has articulately given me her version of events.”

Sources at the school said the incident could have been down to Miss Phillips instigating a role play and not properly briefing the pupils, all aged around 12, what she was doing.

A spokesman for Cheshire County Council said they were investigating. He added: “The headteacher contacted the authority immediately complaints were received. Enquiries are being made into the circumstances as a matter of urgency and all parents will be informed accordingly.

“Educating children in the beliefs of different faiths is part of Cheshire’s diversity curriculum on the basis that knowledge is, of course, is essential to understanding.

“We accept that such teaching has to be conducted with commonsense and sensitivity.”

Detectives investigating the horrific murder of two .  (stabbed 243 times)

Right on the front page this morning and scary too.  This’ll be conversation and worry till the sick bastard is caught.  At which time his rights of course will be held sacred (and he knows it) and some shrink will declare him cured after a few years when it will all start again.
That’s my jaundiced view anyway.

French students stabbing: Burglary clue to murder
By Murray Wardrop

Detectives investigating the horrific murder of two French students at a London flat are examining the theory the stabbing was linked to a previous burglary.

Exchange students Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, both 23, were stabbed 243 times, tied up, gagged and burnt in one of the most “frenzied, brutal and horrific” murders ever investigated by Scotland Yard.

The pair, described as “two of the brightest students of their generation”, were tortured in an attack that may have lasted for several hours at the flat in New Cross, south-east London.

They were then doused in an accelerant and the bedsit was firebombed in an attempt to hide the evidence.

French students’ murderer has probably killed before
By Duncan Gardham
Last Updated: 5:47PM BST 03/07/2008

The murderer of the two French students is a psychopathic serial killer who has almost certainly struck before and will probably strike again, according to a criminal psychologist.
Dr David Nias, an expert in criminal profiling, said the killer probably knew his victims, planned their murder in detail and tortured them before death.

He added: “The killer will have planned the murders in meticulous detail and rehearsed it many times in his head because part of the fantasy is in the build up.

“What immediately comes to mind is that he would have done this before. Usually the killings would start in a much more gradual way and then there would be a snowball effect in which the murders become more and more extreme. The awful thing about it is that once the killings start, they continue and become more gruesome.”

Muslims in Britain should be able to live under Sharia law

caught this an hour ago at 7am and just had to boot and post.  but I get sidetracked by Drew’s posts first and can’t resist looking at those.
This doesn’t refer to ALL laws as you’ll see. But I doubt it’s a great idea to pander to too many (minority for now) desires or demands.
Oh wait,,,, pander.  Done that. Still doin’ that.

Muslims in Britain should be able to live under Sharia law, says top judge
By Christopher Hope and James Kirkup
Last Updated: 7:32AM BST 04/07/2008

Muslims in Britain should be able to live according to Sharia law, the country’s most senior judge has said.

Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, the Lord Chief Justice, strongly backed Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, over his suggestion earlier this year that aspects of Sharia law should be adopted in Britain.

The archbishop’s remarks sparked a national debate and led to calls for his resignation.

Risking inflaming that controversy again, Lord Phillips has said that Muslims in Britain should be able to use Sharia to decide financial and marital disputes.

The judge did add that only the criminal courts should have the power to decide when a crime has been committed and when to impose punishment.

But his suggestion that different religious groups should run their affairs according to different rules sparked warnings that community cohesion could be undermined.

In a speech at the East London Muslim Centre in east London, Lord Phillips said it was “not very radical” for Dr Williams to argue that Sharia law can be used to help govern issues like family disputes and the sale of financial products.

Lord Phillips said: “It is possible in this country for those who are entering into a contractual agreement to agree that the agreement shall be governed by law other than English law.”

Therefore, he said, he could see no reason why Sharia law should not be used to settle disputes in this country.

He said: “There is no reason why principles of Sharia law, or any other religious code, should not be the basis for mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution.”

He added: “It must be recognized however that any sanctions for a failure to comply with the agreed terms of the mediation would be drawn from the laws of England and Wales.”

Sharia law suffered from “widespread misunderstanding” in Britain, Lord Phillips said.

“Part of the misconception about Sharia law is the belief that Sharia is only about mandating sanctions such as flogging, stoning, the cutting off of hands or death for those fail to comply with the law,” he said.

“In some countries the courts interpret Sharia law as calling for severe physical punishment. There can be no question of such courts sitting in this country, or such sanctions being applied here.”

The judge said Dr Williams had been misunderstood when it was reported in February that he said British Muslims could be governed by Sharia law.

Lord Phillips said that the archbishop was saying only that “it was possible for individuals voluntarily to conduct their lives in accordance with Sharia principles without this being in conflict with the rights guaranteed by our law”.

There is already scope in English law for some communities to use their own religious codes to resolve disputes. Orthodox Jews can use the Beth Din rabbinical courts to decide on matters including divorce.

However some critics say that women marrying under Sharia law do not have the same rights as in English law, and could lead to them being treated as second class citizens as far as divorce settlements, custody of children and inheritance go.

Muslim and Christian politicians expressed fears that at a time of heightened tensions, encouraging Muslims to live by their own distinct rules could make it harder for different communities to integrate.

Khalid Mahmood, Labour MP for Birmingham Perry Bar and a practising Muslim, said that allowing Sharia law in parts of the UK would be divisive.

He said: “This would create a two-tier society. It is highly retrograde. It will segregate and alienate the Muslim community from the rest of British society.

“The majority of British Muslims want to live only under British law and they would reject anything that means they are treated differently.

“What Lord Phillips and the archbishop are discussing is something that is completely outside their area of understanding.”

Kylie Minogue, OBE

Prince Charles bestows Order of British Empire to Kylie Minogue

big_uk_flag     image     big_uk_flag

Given this honour by HRH Queen Elizabeth II on her New Year’s Day Honours List, Ms. Minogue received her medal today from Prince Charles. Hearty congratulations Kylie!

So, how did this come about? Did Kylie invent a time machine, jump back in history, save General Gordon at Khartoum and defeat the Mahdi Army all by herself? Hardly. Perhaps she was awarded this singular honor for raising breast cancer awareness, after having gone through it herself back in 2005 and recovered fully? Nice idea, but no.  Ok, was the award for looking this good at 40 and still having the tightest bottom in Europe and the Land Down Under? Possibly, but no one will admit to that reality. Kylie was given this medal of heroes, this award of exceptional service to Crown and Country ... for her contribution to music.  But, hey, so was John Lennon, so the rot actually set in years ago. Ms. Minogue is actually from Australia, though this award makes her an honorary Briton.

For God and the Empire

Battle of Trafalgar log offers insight into Nelson’s victory

Wish I could own that log.  Hate to see the price as low as it is.  I guess maybe this bit of history means more to me.  I hope a foreigner doesn’t buy it.  It should stay in England.

Can you imagine that generation playing the silly ass games they do today.  I mean for example, apologizing for everything any Brit ever did and making nice to ppl who are sworn to kill em.  Man, that was an England to be proud of warts and all.

Battle of Trafalgar log offers insight into Nelson’s victory

Describing the scene in the hours ahead of the battle, Hargood noted the fight would take place in “light airs and hazy weather, with heavy swell”.

He later wrote: “At daylight we saw the enemy’s fleet bearing east nine miles, consisting of 33 sail of the line, five frigates and two sloops.

“5.40: Answered the general signal to form the order of sailing. 6.00: Answered the general signal to bear up and sail large and prepare for battle.

“Made all sail, bearing down on the enemy. Answered the general telegraph signal from Lord Nelson that England expected every man to do his duty.”

Of the actual battle, he kept his entries brief and clinical.

He wrote: “12.08: commenced fire on the enemy. 12.10: Cut the stern of a Spanish 80-gun ship.

“1.30: Heavy fire on both sides. Our ship became totally unmanageable. Most of the sails and rigging being cut away.

“3.15: One of our ships passed our bow and took the fire of an enemy’s ship. 3.25: The Swiftsure passed our stern and cheered us.” Describing the end of battle, which claimed 449 British fatalities, including Nelson, he wrote: “The action ceased. People were employed securing the guns, cleaning and pumping ship. Strong gales and squally at the end.”

The Belleisle was second into battle, closely following the flagship HMS Royal Sovereign into enemy lines, and in the very thick of the action, at one time firing at the Fougueux and the Santa Ana simultaneously.

Despite capturing the Argonauta, the Belleisle was eventually dismasted with 33 dead and 93 wounded, but kept flying her flag for 45 minutes until other vessels came to her rescue.

Hargood, the son of a humble purser, survived the battle and was later made an admiral to cap a distinguished naval career.

The log, dated October 21 1805 and verified by the National Manuscripts department at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, will be auctioned later this month and is expected to fetch £800.

SOME ANGRY BRIT POLITICS IN THE HOUSE.  (doesn’t matter if you don’t know what’s going on)

I’m always fascinated by this stuff.  There’s as much acting here as there is back home in senate and congress, except these folks sound better and they’re usually better actors.  And as a rule, they don’t pussy-foot around things unless they’re referring to each other as “my honorable friend,” when they’re talking about someone they can’t stand the sight of.
