A HAUNTED HOUSE …. should you believe in such things.  Some swear they’ve seen the nuns.  ???

I really know perfectly sober ppl here who, while they make no claim to having ever seen a ghost, have had they claim, very creepy feelings in a few very ancient houses.  There are some manor houses or castles open to the public, and not the darkened dead of night Hollywood movie version of the same.  They were speaking of an odd feeling in broad daylight.  I kinda think that there are places that can give a person that feeling. But not because there are any ghost about. Has more I think to architecture and how a place is decorated inside.  For example, the interiors of Victorian houses with all their clutter and dark wood. And their habit of keeping a photograph of the dearly departed in their coffin, on display in a frame on the mantleplace.  Yeah. I’d say there might be some ghostly feelings in that environment.  Anyway, it’s fun to speculate and I didn’t want to wait till Halloween to share this.

To the day he died, my wife’s uncle, an RAF vet and no pushover, claimed that before the war when he and a crew were doing work in some old place I have now forgotten, he said none of them would work there after dark. These were not the girlie/men we talk about today. These fellas were hardened by years of labor, pubs and fights and whatever else that generation endured in tougher times then ours. And he said the place was haunted, he always believed that one place had ghosts and that they were malignant.  When he told the story of the experiences of the place, it could raise the hairs on your neck.

Something strange in the neighbourhood ... and it’s up for sale: But would you buy Britain’s ‘most-haunted’ manor house?

By Arthur Martin

It’s those hidden extras that separate Wymering Manor from the rest of the property market.
After all, how many homes can boast a ghostly choir of nuns who scuttle across the hall, and a host of unseen hands which reach out to touch those passing by?
The manor, said to be one of Britain’s most haunted houses, is up for auction this month and is expected to fetch around £375,000. Prospective buyers should be aware that they will need to spend at least £150,000 to restore it to its former glory. Nerves of steel would also be an advantage.

The eerie Grade II* listed building in Portsmouth is featured in the 1086 Domesday Book and was once home to Edward the Confessor. Its current structure dates back to the 16th century when it was used as a vicarage and monastery.

The building still has two ‘priest holes’ where Catholics hid to escape persecution. Investigators of the paranormal claim to have sensed the presence of between 20 to 30 spirits in the home, including those of children laughing and whispering.

The building has gained a reputation among ghost hunters for high levels of paranormal activity, including sudden drops in temperature and strange apparitions. A former resident, David Scanlan, found the living and the dead got along fine.

He said the spirits ‘seem to be quite nice and quite friendly and it’s almost like we get on with them and they tolerate us’.

WHEN THINGS GO HORRIBLY WRONG WITH NATIONAL HEALTH … THIS IS ONE RESULT.

I won’t make any personal comments on this story but saw it in this mornings paper and wanted to bring it to the attention of folks back home.
It is troubling, or will be for many I would imagine.

Axe falls on NHS services
NHS bosses have drawn up secret plans for sweeping cuts to services, with restrictions on the most basic treatments for the sick and injured.

By Laura Donnelly, Health Correspondent

Some of the most common operations — including hip replacements and cataract surgery — will be rationed as part of attempts to save billions of pounds, despite government promises that front-line services would be protected.
Patients’ groups have described the measures as “astonishingly brutal”.

deeply confusing

NJ police officer disrupts apparent suicide try

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS • April 27, 2010

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Police in New Jersey say an officer looking for a missing teen may have prevented her and a friend from committing suicide when he broke down the door of a motel room where the girls had been drinking a mixture of Advil and antifreeze.

The girls were discovered Tuesday morning in Clinton Township, about 30 miles northwest of Trenton.

A township resident had called police Monday night to report her 16-year-old daughter missing.

Clinton Special Officer Alfonso Carasio found her car in the parking lot of a Route 22 motel about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The manager gave him a room key, but the door was secured with a chain lock, so officers broke it down.

The 16-year-old was hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Her 17-year-old friend was in critical condition.

The older girl is the step daughter of someone we know. As of late last night she was still unresponsive, renal failure, not breathing on her own, but receiving dialysis and medication. That’s all I know.

From what I understand both these girls have everything going for them. Great grades, popularity, extraordinary good looks, caring normal families with loads of money. LOADS. Everything you could possibly realistically want as a suburban teenage girl in America. Charmed lives. Yet they made a suicide pact together and did their best to carry it out.

This is very baffling. Beyond my understanding and (so far) anyone else’s as well. It was completely out of the blue.

Antifreeze poisoning is pretty awful, especially after 12+ hours post ingestion. Several states have laws that require a foul tasting additive be added (Bitrex), though studies show that this doesn’t hinder it’s use in this kind of situation. Maybe a really potent regurgitant is needed too. Maybe the stuff should just be taken off the market, since the food-grade non-poisonous propylene glycol works just as well in your radiator. And maybe parents should have a better dialogue with their children, and a greater awareness of what’s going on in their lives. But with some kids that isn’t always possible.

I don’t have the answers. I barely even have the questions.

UPDATE: It took 2 days but she pulled through. Breathing on her own, somewhat responsive. The physical damage is going to take a long time to heal and may require hemodialysis sessions for months to come. Permanent kidney damage can not be ruled out yet. The mental and emotional damage? That’s anyone’s guess right now. It’s too soon to even be asking questions.

Why is it that the so-called ‘news’ doesn’t show this?

From the Jawa Report

We face an increasing number of suicide murders here in the “Muslim world”—in places where suicide attacks were previously unheard of. Some people are coerced into suicide, such as the unfortunate women who were raped and defiled in Iraq, then shamed and coerced into suicide for the sake of “honor.” Or the case of a young Libyan, captured by soldiers from a unit I was with in Iraq. The Libyan was thankful for his capture: Iraqis were trying to force him to wear a suicide bomb.

BMEWS and BMEWSettes, clicking on that link will subject you to very graphic images. All that’s left of suicide bombers.

ON TRIAL FOR TELLING THE TRUTH, WHICH HAS “OFFENDED” MEMBERS OF THE ROP.

This might just be about the best I’ve read on this subject.  I know I posted earlier on the same thing. Now read ALL of this and PLEASE (!) read the translated
court summons in the link within the story.  It’ll knock your socks off it will.
Lets not ignore this kind of thing guys.  Fall asleep at the wheel and we might wake up with sharia law and your wives in burkas. Alright I may exaggerate just to make the point.  The old belief that some things couldn’t happen here (UK and USA) aren’t so firmly believed anymore.  Never know ppl.  It’s where the left will bring us.

Geert Wilders: on trial for telling the truth

By Douglas Murray
Telegraph

There is nothing hyperbolic in stating that a trial which has just started in Holland will have unparalleled significance for the future of Europe. It is not just about whether our culture will survive, but whether we are even allowed to state the fact that it is being threatened.

The trial of Geert Wilders has garnered hardly any attention in the mainstream press here. Fortunately the blogosphere can correct some of this.

Wilders is a Dutch MP and leader of Holland’s fastest-growing party, the Party for Freedom. Just a few years ago he was the sole MP for his party. The latest polls show that his party could win the biggest number of seats of any party in Holland when the voters next go to the polls.

His stances have clearly chimed with the Dutch people. They include an end to the era of mass immigration, an end to cultural relativism, and an end to the perceived suborning of European values to Islamic ones. For saying this, and more, he has for many years had to live under round-the-clock security protection. Which you would have thought proves the point to some extent.

Now the latest attempt of the Dutch ruling class to keep Wilders from office has begun. Last week, apparently because of the number of complaints they have received (trial by vote anyone?) the trial of Wilders began.

The Dutch courts charge that Wilders ‘on multiple occasions, at least once, (each time) in public, orally, in writing or through images, intentionally offended a group of people, i.e. Muslims, based on their religion’.

I’m sorry? Whoa there, just a minute. The man’s on trial because he ‘offended a group of people’? I get offended by all sorts of people. I get offended by very fat people. I get offended by very thick people. I get offended by very sensitive people. I get offended by the crazy car-crash of vowels in Dutch verbs. But I don’t try to press charges.

Yet, crazily, this is exactly what is going on now in a Dutch courtroom. If found guilty of this Alice-in-Wonderland accusation of ‘offending a group of people’, Wilders faces up to two years in prison.

If anyone doubts the surreal nature of the proceedings now going on they should simply look through the summons which is available in an English translation here It shows that Wilders is on trial for his film Fitna. And for various things he has said in articles and interviews in the Dutch press.

Now some people liked Fitna and some people didn’t. That’s a matter of choice. But by any previous interpretation it is not the job of courts in democratic countries to become film-critics. In fact it would create a very bad precedent. I thought the latest Alec Baldwin film stank. But I don’t think (though the temptation lingers) Baldwin should go to prison for it.

REWARDING BAD BEHAVIOR LEADS TO MORE OF THE SAME WITH LOWER STANDARDS THE RESULT

This has NOTHING to do with this post but my mind won’t let go of something.

Brit election I think in May AND ..... the conservative numbers are not as large as they were a few months ago.  Not that the cons here are all that much to brag about but at least they are not Labour (Party).  It is scary beyond words at the possibility of another leftist Labour Party govt., especially with that screaming loon, Harriet Harperson, Comrade Commissar of Equality.  Also ... Gordon Brown, the current PM, is so desperate that he has announced that he will push to extend the vote to ....  16 year olds. SWEET 16

So that’s off my chest, now back to our regular posting schedule.

I’m posting this editorial because first it makes interesting points and also because it falls right into something Wardmama here at BMEWS has commented on.

Back home in the USA you might not know who the ballplayer is that’s referred to here but really that doesn’t matter.  For a frame of reference think Tiger Woods.  Pretty much the same thing but the twist with this disreputable fellow is, not being satisfied with cheating on his wife, he had an affair with the girlfriend of a close friend and team mate.  Some friend.  And his wife btw is no bow-wow either.  Sure, as a male I understand needs and drives etc.  But surely there should be limits or a code of honor or ...  ?  I’m looking for another word here.  Fidelity?  And oh yeah.  The guy is also captain of his team.  So now the team is split between those who “understand” and don’t care, and those who think it might be normal to cheat but not steal a friend’s girlfriend, and all the rest.

I think Miss Pearson and Wardmom nailed it well.  Rewarding bad behavior only encourages more of the same and while that’s going on, the standards keep getting lower and lower.

This toxic WAG virus is infecting our young

By Allison Pearson
Last updated at 8:06 AM on 03rd February 2010

Every night, my son falls asleep with John Terry. Tucked up under his Chelsea duvet, wearing his Chelsea pyjamas, Tom dreams of being captain of his favourite team - dogged, doughty, rich, an invincible defender, an England legend.

Oh, and a liar, a cheat and a sexually incontinent slimeball. The Small Boy doesn’t know about that bit yet, though I’m finding it increasingly hard to swipe the morning papers before he sees them.

Following his affair with Vanessa Perroncel, a family friend and underwear model - what else? - there are calls for Terry to stand down as England captain.

Fans are worried that tensions between Terry and Wayne Bridge, Miss Perroncel’s former boyfriend, will damage team morale during the World Cup in June.

Let’s be practical here, folks. If England players were to be excluded on the grounds of crude or ungentlemanly conduct, who would be left on the pitch? The manager, that’s who.

Wayne Bridge has been cast as the poor, wronged bloke in this seedy story. But, according to Shalimar Wimble, one of Terry’s Trollops who have come tottering out of the gutter in their six-inch stilettos, it was to a house owned by Bridge that the England captain took Wimble for regular sex sessions.

Looks like Wayne was more than happy to aid and abet his mate’s rampant infidelity. Until it was his WAG that Terry bagged.

Declared dead and about to be buried …. problem …. deceased isn’t ready yet.

This here being a blog site and all, I thought I’d share my last 48 incredible hours with ya so you could all go OoH-Ahh.

Then I read about this fellow and his very close call with everyone’s fear .... and my Ooh,ah became a YAWN!

Patient declared dead by a doctor is found to be alive by undertaker as he was about to seal the coffin

By Mail Foreign Service
Last updated at 3:12 PM on 25th January 2010

A Polish beekeeper pronounced dead after he suffered a suspected heart attack was about to be sealed up in a coffin when a funeral director miraculously discovered a faint pulse.

Jozef Guzy collapsed as he started work among his beloved hives near the southern city of Katowice.

An ambulance was called and an experienced doctor declared that the 76-year-old had died.

So then I thought about it and wondered. Hey ,, wait a minute.  Is Poland that much different from anywhere else these days?  If someone dies, don’t they do stuff and run tests I have read about?  Maybe not in Poland. ???  So I do have to wonder about this story.  Although I can’ t see the Mail not checking it out. It’s a major paper after all.
So here.  Read the rest and let me know if I should become less skeptical.

Dear Departed?

update to an older story with ALL the facts in public now.  Gross, so be warned.

This story will be familiar to readers here. But a word of caution.

This is I’m sure one of the most revolting and sickening stories you’ll see on BMEWS.  It’s an update to a story that was posted last year but minus ALL of the facts.  Naturally due to the young ages of the criminal murderous, torturing little shits, age 10 and 11, their faces aren’t shown.
These bastards are NOT redeemable. Ever.  If there really was any such thing as justice, they’d either be burned at a stake, and that would be too easy, or simply tossed in a cage and fed raw meat like the animals they are.

The full version is at the link below.

‘Are you dying now?’: Full horror of torture attack by brothers, 10 and 11, on two young boys

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 4:41 PM on 20th January 2010

The full horror of the torture attack by a pair of brothers aged 10 and 11 on two young boys was revealed for the first time today as they appeared for sentencing.

The victims, aged nine and 11 at the time, were punched, forced to eat nettles and had broken glass run across their throats by the brothers who also attempted to strangle the younger boy with the words: ‘Are you dying now?’

The young boys had been lured a recreation ground in Edlington, South Yorkshire, by the pair, Sheffield Crown Court was told.

Once concealed by trees the two brothers, now aged 11 and 12, told their young victims they were going to be killed before subjecting them to a horrific two-hour ordeal.

The brothers were originally charged with attempting to murder the two boys and threatening to kill a third, a choirboy attacked in similar circumstances the previous week. They admitted GBH with intent in September.

Nicholas Campbell QC said the victims were subjected to an assault which was ‘both physically painful and emotionally traumatic - it was frightening’.

‘In addition, what they endured was humiliating and embarrassing.’

The court heard that the boys were taken to an area concealed from passers-by by vegetation and a large pile of broken branches, which had been loosely constructed to form a den.

As they were being taken down a slope to the area, the older victim became stuck on barbed wire, which cut into his shoulder. The younger boy was later pushed up against the wire, which was used again later in the attack.

Mr Campbell said the attack became more serious as both the victims were put to the ground at the bottom of the slope and both boys were stamped on.

The brothers collected bricks and stones, which were thrown at the heads of the two boys.

The judge heard that police later found a series of blood-stained ‘weapons’ at the scene.

These were displayed in the courtroom by a police officer.

Mr Campbell described how one of the boys was stripped naked after both had socks stuck in their mouths. The other boy had some of his clothing removed.

He then described a sex act the brothers told them to perform. They were told to say they enjoyed it or they would be killed.

‘Further indignities were inflicted upon them,’ he said.

Mr Campbell said one boy was told to urinate into the other’s mouth.

In the event, the court heard, the boy managed to avoid the urine entering his mouth but it went down his face.

A plastic sheet was placed over the two boys when people were heard in the area.

The younger brother set fire to the sheet, causing burns to the boys, before they threw it off.

The court heard that the brothers were at pains not to get any blood on their clothing, telling the boys: ‘If the blood goes on me, we’re gonna kill you both.’

At one point, the older brother told the younger boy to lick blood off one of his trainers.

The boys were then moved to a more secluded area, where the attack continued.

The boys were taken to the bottom of a ravine where there was little chance of anyone else seeing what was happening.

Both brothers used part of a clothes line in an attempt to strangle the younger boy by winding it around his neck three times and pulling it tight.

The boys were taken to the bottom of a ravine where there was little chance of anyone else seeing what was happening.

Both brothers used part of a clothes line in an attempt to strangle the younger boy by winding it around his neck three times and pulling it tight.

Mr Campbell said: “(The younger boy) remembers his voice and his eyes feeling rather odd. (The older brother) asked ‘Are you dying now?’ and then he stopped. He went on to say ‘It’s too much with the wire. They’re not dying at all.”

Broken tree branches were used to strike the boys and the younger of the two victims received a deep wound to his forearm arm from the use of the sharpened end of a stick.

Mr Campbell said the older brother used the younger boy’s mobile phone to film his sibling attacking the older boy.

The barrister warned the court that the footage was ‘upsetting to view’ before it was played.

The film shows the older victim lying on his back on the ground, with his face covered in blood and his arms crossed over his chest to protect himself as the younger brother ‘taunts and jabs him’ with an object.

Mr Campbell said: ‘This footage is upsetting to view but it is important evidence as you consider the nature of this attack as a whole.’

A discarded cigarette end was also found at the scene containing blood with DNA matching the younger of the victims.

The boy told police that the younger brother cut his arm open with a sharp stick and the older brother placed a lit cigarette in the wound.

The judge and barristers appeared in court without gowns or wigs as part of special arrangements put in place to make the proceedings less intimidating for the two defendants.

Oh that’s right. We don’t wanna scare the little fucks now do we?

Border Security

MacBook Not Bulletproof

Lily Sussman is an American abroad. And a blogger. I gather she lives, works, and goes to school in Cairo. Taking some time off to do the tourist thing, she visited Israel. And I guess that the border security guards didn’t like that she brought her laptop computer with her. So they shot it. Three times.

image

Police shoot U.S. student’s laptop upon entry to Israel

Israel Border Police officers shot at an American student’s laptop as she entered Israel via Taba, Egypt, two weeks ago.

Lily Sussman, 21, wrote on her blog that border police subjected her to two hours of questioning and searches prior to shooting her Apple Macbook three times.

“They had pressed every sock and scarf with a security device, ripped open soap and had me strip extra layers. They asked me tons of questions?where are you going?” Sussman wrote, describing the experience.

“Who do you know? Do you have a boyfriend? Is he Arab, Egyptian, Palestinian? Why do you live in Egypt? Why not Israel? What do you know about the ‘conflict’ here? What do you think? They quizzed me on Judaism, which I know nothing about,” she continued.

Sussman said that she then heard an announcement on the loudspeaker. “It was something along the lines of, ‘Do not to be alarmed by gunshots because the Israeli security needs to blow up suspicious passenger luggage,’? she wrote on her blog.

Moments later a man came to her and introduced himself as the manager on duty. “I’m sorry but we had to blow up your laptop,” Sussman said he told her.

“The security officers did not ask about my laptop prior to shooting it,” Sussman told Daily News Egypt. “They used the word ‘blew up’ when they told me they destroyed my laptop. I don’t know why they shot it.”

from her blog ...

Moments later a man came outside and introduced himself as the manager on duty. And then, “I’m sorry but we had to blow up your laptop. “

What….all my client case notes and testimony, writing, pictures, music and applications. Years of work. NO!!!! What?? Are you insane?? What were you thinking? THAT’S ALL MY WORK!?

After much yelling, crying and frantic phone dialing (don’t be alarmed if I called you repeatedly this morning), he took me outside to see the wreckage. It turned out it hadn’t been quite blown up, but rather shot through with three bullets. We were able to extract the hard drive, seemingly unscaved. Thank goodness…

Security had never asked for my password. Was it my peeling Arabic stickers on the keyboard? Or something else during the questioning which set them off?

Most unusual. I gather the border cops also blow up clothing sometimes too.

Better make sure you answer those questions properly, or else!

The good news is that a) the guards missed the hard drive, and b) Israel is going to buy her a new computer. If she fills out the proper forms in a timely manner.

Damn. Can you imagine this going on here? “Sorry, those peaches are overripe.” BaBOOM! “Art? You call this art?” BaBOOM! “No, sorry, we only let Run DMC music out of the country. You can’t bring any in!” baBOOM!

Scam Alert

No this one isn’t about deposed Nigerian princes needing to transfer their wealth. This one is about a village in Kenya that’s missing it’s idiot. And some of his ideas.

The Plan, The Scam, The Man. Panama Obama

Crap, he isn’t even a palindrome!

Ignore all the gas crap and just look at how the stupid car buyer got taken to the cleaners:

If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you get $4500 off for an apparent “savings” of $1000.

However, you have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th (something that no auto dealer will tell you).  If you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will pay $1350 on that $4500.

So, rather than save $1000, you actually pay an extra $350 to the feds.  In addition, you traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now you have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, that was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now be making.

But wait; it gets even better:  you also got ripped off by the dealer.

For example, every dealer here in LA was selling the Ford Focus with all the goodies, including A/C, auto transmission, power windows, etc for $12,500 the month before the “cash for clunkers” program started.

When “cash for clunkers” came along, they stopped discounting them and instead sold them at the list price of $15,500.  So, you paid $3000 more than you would have the month before… (Honda, Toyota , and Kia played the same list price game that Ford and Chevy did).

So let’s do the final tally here:

You traded in a car worth:  $3500
You got a discount of:  $4500
--------
Net so far:  +$1000
But there are taxes on the $4500: $1350
--------
Net so far:  -$ 350
Amount the price was jacked up that month:  $3000
----------
Actual Real World Net:  -$3350

Oops. And it’s too late now.

We could also add in the additional taxes (sales tax, state tax, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, along with the 5 years of interest on the car loan, but let’s just stop here.

So who actually made out on the deal?  The feds collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 they “gave” you.  The car dealers made an extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks from the manufacturers and the loan companies.  The manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they could not give away the month before.  And the poor, stupid consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot afford.

Obama and his band of merry men convinced Joe consumer that he was getting $4500 in “free” money from the “government” when in fact, Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an additional $3350 for the privilege.

Think this was stupid for those who were crazy enough to swallow this wonderful scheme?

Just wait until we get health care with no additional costs over what most of us now pay for health insurance and the best medical care in the world.

Think that scheme might be designed by the same people who came up with Cash for Clunkers?

This scam alert brought to you by Rancino. Thanks guy!

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
