There He Goes Again

Saying that he is issuing administrative maneuvers for a “homeowners bill of rights” and other means to investigate and prevent abuses in the mortgage industry, Obama told an audience in Falls Church, Va., that he wants the Federal Housing Administration to guarantee refinancing for families who are current on their mortgages.
...
Obama said the bill of rights would compliment the work approved by the Consumer Financial Protection Agency.
“Now that our new consumer watchdog financial agency is running at full steam, now that Richard Cordray is in as the director of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, they’re moving forward on protections like this,” he said.
...
“I’ll be honest, the programs we’ve put forward didn’t work at the scale we’d hoped,” Obama said. “Not as many people have taken advantage of it as we wanted.”
The administration proposal faces a major hurdle in Congress. The program would cost between $5 billion and $10 billion, depending on participation, and the administration proposes to pay for it with a fee on large banks. The administration has tried unsuccessfully before to win support for such a tax on large banks.
Gee I wonder why. Hey Mr. Banker, whaddya say we put a new law in that forces you to make less money, and we tax you to cover the overhead costs of the whole program? No? You don’t like that? Why not?? Boo hoo, you’re so unfair! Capitalism sucks!!!

political America’s wholesale retreat from the great fantasy of global warming.
OK so as long as I was on the subject of Obama .....
Take a look at this. Yes, I know. I’m a bit late posting it but hey. Does not make it less worthwhile a post. Besides, I want our American readers to see some of what’s being written here on the subject.
Soon as I get up the nerve and I think my weak stomach can handle it, I might start posting a few things from the libtard press. Maybe. But not today.
Maybe not tomorrow either. Maybe next week.
I read Booker a lot, but I am not so sure he is correct with regard to the headline I have that leads this story. I do not think the USA political or otherwise has retreated wholesale from the fairy tale as preached by the new religion of things green.
How I woke up to the untruths of Barack ObamaThe President’s State of the Union address was as weaselly as any politician’s could be.
By Christopher Booker
When I happened to wake up in the middle of the night last Wednesday and caught the BBC World Service’s live relay of President Obama’s State of the Union address to Congress, two passages had me rubbing my eyes in disbelief.
The first came when, to applause, the President spoke about the banking crash which coincided with his barnstorming 2008 election campaign. “The house of cards collapsed,” he recalled. “We learned that mortgages had been sold to people who couldn’t afford or understand them.” He excoriated the banks which had “made huge bets and bonuses with other people’s money”, while “regulators looked the other way and didn’t have the authority to stop the bad behaviour”. This, said Obama, “was wrong. It was irresponsible. And it plunged our economy into a crisis that put millions out of work.”
I recalled a piece I wrote in this column on January 29, 2009, just after Obama took office. It was headlined: “This is the sub-prime house that Barack Obama built”. As a rising young Chicago politician in 1995, no one campaigned more actively than Mr Obama for an amendment to the US Community Reinvestment Act, legally requiring banks to lend huge sums to millions of poor, mainly black Americans, guaranteed by the two giant mortgage associations, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
It was this Act, above all, which let the US housing bubble blow up, far beyond the point where it was obvious that hundreds of thousands of homeowners would be likely to default. Yet, in 2005, no one more actively opposed moves to halt these reckless guarantees than Senator Obama, who received more donations from Fannie Mae than any other US politician (although Senator Hillary Clinton ran him close).
A later passage in Obama’s speech, when he hailed the way his country’s energy future has been transformed by the miracle of shale gas, met with a storm of applause. Not only would this give the US energy security for decades, creating 600,000 jobs, but it could now go all out to exploit its gas and oil reserves (more applause). Yet this was the man who in 2008 couldn’t stop talking about the threat of global warming, and was elected on a pledge to make the US only the second country in the world, after Britain, to commit to cutting its CO2 emissions from fossil fuels by 80 per cent within 40 years.
Even more telling than his audience’s response to this, however, was what happened when Obama referred briefly to the need to develop “clean energy on enough public land to power three million homes”. But no mention now of vast numbers of wind turbines – those props beside which he constantly chose to be filmed back in 2008. No harking back to his boast that “renewable energy” would create “four million jobs”. And even to this sole fleeting reminder of what, four years ago, was his flagship policy the response of Congress was a deafening silence.
A few months after Obama entered the White House, I suggested here that the slogan on which he was elected – “Yes we can” – seemed to have changed to “No we can’t”. It was already obvious that, having won election as an ideal Hollywood version of what “the first black President” should look and sound like, he was in reality no more than a vacuum. His speech last week was as weaselly as any politician’s performance could be, not least in its references to the sub-prime scandal.
But on no issue has this been more obvious than political America’s wholesale retreat from the great fantasy of global warming – which leaves Britain as the only country committed to the insanity of cutting “carbon emissions” by four-fifths in less than four decades. President Obama and the rest of the world have moved on.

Lefty Fantasy Time
Eye bleach may be necessary for this one.
Aritist Ron English has sculpted President Obama as The Incredible Hulk. I’m sure it will soon be available as a rubber dolly for metro-diversity boys and gender neutral children to play with.
Even worse, the sculpture is entitled “America’s Back”, because, you know, Fearless Reader is such a strong military leader and international image fixer upper world saver kinda guy.
Controversial American contemporary artist Ron English is back at it again with his latest construction, “America’s Back,” a new sculpture which depicts Barack Obama as an angry, brown Hulk with huge bulging muscles, torn pants and a menacing look.
The President can be viewed as a hero who comes to the rescue when America is in trouble, but also as someone very angry.
It seems like Ron is a genuine artiste; he just had a little show at the MoMA. Then again, those museums will do anything brash to sell tickets.
Picture after the fold, if you dare.
Personally, I think if you put a straw hat on the artwork, and maybe let the steroids wear off for a week or two, it would look just like Big Jim from Gone With The Wind, but saying so is probably raaaaaaaaaaacist. But those pants, please. Straight outta Tara.
small update: nope, no “action figure” rubber dolly will be forthcoming. Too many property rights and branding issues probably.

Jackwad

Like you didn’t know this was coming, right? Now Canada will put in a 90 degree elbow and turn the pipeline west, and sell all their oil to the damn ChiComs. Dipshit.
President Obama announced Wednesday that he will deny a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, blaming Republicans for imposing a “rushed and arbitrary deadline” which he said did not give officials enough time.
Will no one rid us of this turbulent priest president? November 5 can’t come fast enough.
GOP lawmakers immediately excoriated the president for the decision. House Speaker John Boehner said Obama is “selling out American jobs for politics,” and said Republicans in Congress would continue to push for the pipeline.
The decision does not necessarily kill the project. The State Department said the denial “does not preclude any subsequent permit application”—and within hours pipeline company TransCanada announced that it would reapply for a permit.
But the decision at least delays the project, one that unions and GOP lawmakers alike said would be a boon for job creation as well as energy security.
“Until this pipeline is constructed, the U.S. will continue to import millions of barrels of conflict oil from the Middle East and Venezuela and other foreign countries,” TransCanada said in a statement Wednesday, saying it is “disappointed” by the administration’s call. “Thousands of jobs continue to hang in the balance if this project does not go forward.”
I never knew Manchuria was part of Kenya, but with this candidate I’m certain of it. This is not incompetence. This is a deliberate and never ending effort to weaken and destroy the nation. The evil red puppet has to go.
“This political decision offers hard evidence that creating jobs is not a high priority for this administration,” said US Chamber of Commerce Pres. Thomas J. Donohue. “By placing politics over policy, the Obama administration is sacrificing tens of thousands of good-paying American jobs in the short term, and many more than that in the long term.”
Under an attachment to a bill extending a payroll tax holiday, Obama had until Feb. 21 to act on the 1,600-mile pipeline, which would carry heavy oil from Alberta to the Texas Gulf Coast. His administration earlier had deferred a decision on the project until 2013, but congressional Republicans hoped to force him to choose between labor union supporters, who back Keystone XL, and environmental groups, which oppose it.
Let’s see ... if I were President and our nice neighbors to the north wanted to build a pipeline to ship us endless barrels of oil, how long would it take me to decide if that was a good thing? DONE. Far less time than it took me to type D O N E. Subversive bastard.

I have to hand it to the mad mullahs. They came up with a brilliant snap to lay on Obeanhead. Right upside his head with a shoe. Pretty much makes him a laughingstock, which is what he deserves. Problem is, it makes us a laughingstock too. Thanks for the bold leadership Barack.
The Iranian government, which captured a U.S. stealth drone in December, has agreed to give the top-secret spy craft back, but with a catch.
Instead of the original RQ-170 Sentinel drone, the Islamic Republic said Tuesday that it will send President Obama a tiny toy replica of the plane.
Iranian state radio said that the toy model will be 1/80th the size of the real thing. Iranian citizens can also buy their own toy copies of the drone, which will be available in stores for the equivalent of $4.

Did you want that face egg once over easy, Mr. President, or scrambled?
Ah, but as long as we’re doing toy planes, I can find a better model than that for us to look at ...

Yay Me
Guess I’m not so estupide after all. Here are a couple links to things I figured out myself this week, and either posted about here or commented on at Vilmar’s. Either that, or there are others as equally deranged as I am. Nah, can’t be. Both of the stories below are backed up with considerable research.
Yes, Obama is a Communist. In detail. I’m not patting myself on the back for this one; it’s been obvious for 3 years or more now, and hopefully tens of millions of my fellow citizens not only realize this truth, but have the smarts to realize what that means to the whole big picture. Put bluntly: he is NOT an inept President. The things he keeps doing that make the situations worse here are NOT done by accident or caused by naivete.
No surprise on this one (see Attaboy #1 above): the Iranians got their filthy paws on our top secret drone by direct presidential order. No shir, Shitlock. I had ventured the opinion that this would be a great ruse if done right; a perfect chance to fool the camel humpers with false technology or another opportunity to get another killer computer virus into the heart of their military R&D workshops, but I don’t have the slightest bit of faith that such a Machiavellian move was done. No, Odoofus gave our latest and greatest spy tech to our enemies on purpose, because they aren’t his enemies. Just like Clinton and the missile tech to China ... and it will probably come to light a few years from now that a large amount of money made its way by several hard to follow trails from Tehran to the DNC coffers. Guaranteed. Just like what Clinton did.
So here’s a cute puppy picture I stole from Theo’s.

Red Barry Outs Himself
In a speech delivered at Osawatomie High School in Osawatomie, Kansas, on Tuesday, President Barack Obama argued that while a limited government that preserves free markets “speaks to our rugged individualism” as Americans, such a system “doesn’t work” and “has never worked” and that Americans must look to a more activist government that taxes more, spends more and regulates more if they want to preserve the middle class.
“‘[T]here is a certain crowd in Washington who, for the last few decades, have said, let’s respond to this economic challenge with the same old tune. ‘The market will take care of everything,’ they tell us,” said Obama. “If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes--especially for the wealthy--our economy will grow stronger.
“Sure, they say, there will be winners and losers,” Obama continued. “But if the winners do really well, then jobs and prosperity will eventually trickle down to everybody else. And, they argue, even if prosperity doesn’t trickle down, well, that’s the price of liberty.
“Now, it’s a simple theory,” said Obama. “And we have to admit, it’s one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. That’s in America’s DNA. And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. But here’s the problem: It doesn’t work. It has never worked.
Go read the rest, and watch the video.
With the economy in the septic tank, the housing market in free fall, unchecked unemployment that only “improves” when the numbers get diddled, rampant cronyism and corruption at all levels of government, the weakest foreign policy in our nation’s history, deliberate and repeated efforts by the government to eradicate citizen’s wealth by devaluing the currency, government control of several major industries, a deliberately moronic fiscal policy, a corrupt justice department arming criminal gangs, laundering drug money, and selectively enforcing only the laws they approve of, an entire political party supporting gangs of unwashed urban anarchists “occupying” cities left and right, it’s no surprise that Obama’s poll numbers are falling like lead balloons. He’s backed into a corner and under the kind of pressure that no amount of golf or another extravagant vacation at taxpayer expense can cure. And under that pressure, the real Obama comes out. And here it is.
The GOP could run an otter as their candidate and still win; this speech should be all the campaign strategy they’d ever need. Of course, they’d have to explain what it meant, as most citizens under 40 don’t have a clue about either freedom or tyranny. Or history, or why capitalism made us the richest country in the history of the world, at all levels of society.
It does not matter one whit whether you call it communism, socialism, national socialism, progressivism, or fascism. Minor shades of difference; they’re all highly similar at the core. They all focus on an all-powerful government that controls and regulates ever aspect of everything. They all believe in rule by a small core of superior elites, and everyone else is a serf. That’s what Obama is in favor of. That’s what he’s about. Then, now, always. Always was, always will be. He considers the USA to be fundamentally flawed, right down to the Constitution. He even said as much during the 2008 campaign, but no one actually listened. They were too busy fainting over a clean, articulate, nice looking black man with only a minor criminal record. They said that too, and nobody listened either. And ignored that his entire social world, from childhood on up, was a circle of anarchists and communists.
The President of The United States of America is a Red.
And here it is, in his own words.
Fundamental Change, indeed.
Impeach him.

Feels Like It’s Clobberin’ Time
Arrogance Times Two
At the high end, we’ve got Fearless Reader, who thinks he’s all that and a bag of chips because he himself didn’t give the order to stop the military from offing Bin Laden. Now he’s all Big and Bad and pulling that one out of his ass when the Repubs mildly point out that he goes down on his knees in a flash to fellate our enemies.
President Barack Obama is firmly rejecting Republican accusations that he has engaged in an ‘appeasement’ foreign policy. He says: “Ask Usama bin Laden.”
Republican presidential candidates have been critical of Obama’s foreign policy, especially in the Middle East. Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania on Wednesday said Obama’s policy toward radical Islamists “has been nothing but appeasement.”
At the low end, we’ve got Justin Bieber, that dribble of Canadian maple syrup, resurrecting Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” abstinence campaign with a personal twist: now it’s “Just Say Justin”. He’s taped a video message to all his tweener fan’s dads, telling them how it’s cool that their blossoming baby is busy learning to pleasure herself while dreaming of him. Seriously. I am not kidding. It’s actually a commercial for his new fragrance, which is perhaps even more annoying.
In the clip, Bieber insists it’s fine for fathers to let their daughters obsess over a famous pop star as it will stop them having a crush on the boy next door.
He says, “Hey Dad, it’s Justin, your daughter wanted us to chat. I feel like we got off on the wrong foot, I mean I get it, I’m a huge mega star, I got a full head of hair, you know, I get it.”
“But it could be a lot worse. Think about it. Guys her age… Well, remember when you were her age? Yeah, exactly… Hey, I’m a great distraction. She won’t even think about him ... and someday you might even thank me.”
“So next time you hear her scream my name, relax. It’s better than hearing her scream ‘Joey’ who lives next door. Am I right?”
I want to beat the crap out of him just for the sheer chutzpah he’s showing, and I don’t even have daughters. It doesn’t matter if he’s right or if it’s a good idea. It’s just that my reflex reaction to that level of nerve is dealing out a couple of black eyes and a busted lip. Oh, it was only light-hearted comedy? Gosh, I must have missed that. But to be fair, it was only a light-hearted beating, so we’re even, am I right?

com pooter problems
Something wrong with my mouse today; left click not working. Lucky me I have a 4 button laser mouse with a wheel, so I could reprogram one of the spare buttons to work as the left clicker. But it’s still annoying. So here’s a redhead. She has very bold looks that you’ll either love or hate, but you can’t argue that she isn’t in really great shape. This is fashion and fitness model Layna Brett from Toronto, who is a spokes-model for several very famous brands. Yes, she’s a dancer as well, and I gather she is also involved with a personal training gym. You go girl!
This may be a recycle for me, but then again so might this link: Obama, the affirmative action president. Both are still worth another look though!

UK Does Something Right
Sorry for the pandering bias, but the article is from MSNBC ...
Racist much there?
An effigy of Barack Obama was burned by members of a Conservative party college student association in Scotland, after its committee chose the U.S. president over the late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, a student official told msnbc.com.
The incident took place on a beach in St. Andrews on Friday as part of a tradition by the University of St. Andrews Conservative Association that has seen effigies of former U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown burned and former South African President Nelson Mandela hung among others.
Some kind of Burning Man thing I guess. Don’t they do this every year, and toasted Clinton the same way some years ago maybe?
A source told msnbc.com that a number of the committee members were Americans who support the Republican party.
Oh sure. Because they can find a real live breathing Conservative in bloody Scotland. Where even the “right wingers” are Socialists. Sure, uh huh. But if we can’t Blame Bush, we’ll take the next closest thing. OK, now watch the slobbering media get it’s soiled panties in a righteous twist cuz Mr. Toasty was Fearless Reader.
St. Andrews University, which was founded in 1413 and says it is the third oldest university in the English-speaking world, said it planned to speak to the Conservative group about the “very understandable concerns” over the incident.
In a telephone interview, Patrick O’Hare, a student official, said the Students’ Representative Council had voted by 13 to 2 Tuesday night in favor of a motion that burning effigies of public figures was not constructive.
O’Hare described the burning as “immature” and “potentially very offensive,” particularly as the effigy was of “America’s first black president.”
Five candidates to burn
He said he had been told by a person in a position to know that a vote had been taken by the Conservative group’s committee “as to who they would burn.”He told msnbc.com the identity of the source but provided the information on the basis that the person was not identified.
“There were five candidates including Gadhafi,” O’Hare said. “It was decided upon — perversely democratically — that Obama was the one who was going to burn.”
O’Hare is president of the Students’ Association, of which the Conservative group is a member along with left-wing and other political societies.
St. Andrews University issued a brief comment in an email. “We are aware of reports of this incident and have asked to meet the society president to discuss the very understandable concerns which these reports have raised. Until that meeting has taken place, it would be inappropriate to make further comment,” the statement said.
And on and on. They’re practically wetting themselves with remorse.
[Drew flips through dictionary ... whaddya mean “Effigy” is a thing, not a place. Aw nutz! Hey, wait a second, it says here an effigy is a straw man, a stand-in for the real thing. Um, so does that mean the POTUS is dead?]
The BEEB also covered this story, calling it an ACT OF HATE.
Nobody ran the pictures. You KNOW the pictures exist. When TOTUS gets lit up in Effigy, Afghanistan, we get the picture. When Shiites go at it, we get the picture. When radical militant Hindus light him, we get the picture. NOBODY is running the picture. This is as close as it gets:
Tory Society also repeatedly torched Nelson Mandela
Nothing to see here, move along. No pics mean it didn’t happen, and will soon be forgotten. So here’s a pic of Prince William and Kate, both St. Andrews alumni. Aren’t they a cute couple? Stare at the cut couple. Think only about the cute couple.
Obama? Whozzat?
Effigy? Never been there.

It’s a start
A former fundraiser to President Barack Obama was sentenced to 10.5 years in federal prison today. Tony Rezko, 56, will end up spending only seven years behind bars because the judge gave him credit for time he’s already served.
In 2008, Rezko was convicted of pay to play politics including fraud, bribery and extorting millions from businesses seeking contracts with the state of Illinois while Rod Blagojevich was Governor.
...Rezko’s sentencing of 10.5 years could set a precedent for the upcoming sentencing of convicted Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Blagojevich was found guilty on multiple corruption charges during his re-trial earlier this year. His sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday December 6th in Chicago.

Reparations Passes
This is such blatant racist bullshit I can’t see straight. This is the scam of a lifetime. There aren’t 68,000 black farmers in America and there never were. Certainly not in the late 20th century. And now it’s going to be free money, uncontested to any who claim that they at least attempted to be farmers but gave up because they got discouraged because USDA was rumored to not be giving farm loans to black people. And all of this is the direct doing of a certain Senator from Illinois, one Barack Hussein Obama.
The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has approved the Pigford II settlement. U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says this approval is another important step to ensure some level of justice for black farmers and ranchers who faced discrimination when trying to obtain services from USDA. According to Attorney General Eric Holder - the settlement allows USDA and African-American farmers to focus on the future - and brings these farmers one step closer to having their claims heard. The bill approved by the House and Senate included strong protections against waste, fraud and abuse to ensure the integrity of the claims process.
Oh horseshit. There is no government program that isn’t chock full of waste, fraud, and abuse. It’s going to be a madhouse, and the rules will be bent so fast and so far you’d think they were made from rubber bands.
President Obama said in a statement that the settlement “is another important step forward in addressing an unfortunate chapter in USDA’s civil rights history. This agreement will provide overdue relief and justice to African-American farmers and bring us closer to the ideals of freedom and equality that this country was founded on.”
The implementation of the settlement to redress racial bias against black farmers comes during the term of the nation’s first African-American president, a point not lost during Friday’s White House briefing with reporters.
[regarding Pigford I from 1990] “The farmers didn’t think anything would come of it. They had been disappointed over the years by the government,” Friedman said, “yet 16,000 of them collected something like $1.1 billion in that case.”
Word spread that the government was willing to pay reparations, but other farmers who had valid claims of bias had missed the deadline to file. Friedman said Congress and the president then extended the statute of limitations “to get these disappointed people back in the case.”
Boyd said the problem now is making sure farmers who became “late filers” are now aware the settlement is ready to go.
“Some of these guys were in their 60s and maybe by now have passed away,” Boyd said. “Their family needs to know that if Daddy filed, they can still pursue his claim.”
Many thousands of claimants from the first go-round were thrown out because their applications were obviously fraudulent. Actually, most of the applications were fraudulent. Look it up; it’s all online. Now all some younger person will have to do is show up, claim that daddy made a claim, and that the government lost it due to racist behavior or some such crap, and they’ll get a Track A check for 50 large. Any real farmers will real claims will take Track B, which could net them payments of up to a quarter million dollars. Or more!
The settlement is the second one reached with black farmers led by Timothy Pigford, who filed a class-action suit in 1997 alleging racial discrimination in farm loan programs. According to the suit, beginning 1981 through 1996, USDA officials rejected loan applications from black farmers or approved loans with unfair terms.
The government paid out $1 billion in 1999 to thousands of farmers but thousands more were left out because they filed late claims.
Last year, the USDA reached a $1.25 billion agreement with farmers excluded from the first settlement. Congress had appropriated $100 million for the Pigford II case in 2008 through a farm bill, leaving $1.15 billion that still required approval.
Republicans led by Reps. Michelle Bachman (R-MN) and Steve King (R-IA) had withheld their support for the second settlement, citing fraudulent claims despite what agriculture officials said were strong protections against abuse.
Friedman, who also approved the first Pigford payment, said in his order there was minimal objection to the second settlement, which includes payouts and loan forgiveness for farmers who file valid claims.
And where do you think the money is coming from? Why, it’s coming from the Food Stamp funds, now that those rolls have more than doubled under Obama. Andrew Breitbart explains:
…Vilsack said in the interview he is reluctant to cut the food stamp program, saying that its budget authority already was reduced to pay for teacher salaries and to make settlements for farmers who had sued USDA for discrimination in the Pigford II case.
America’s poor are suffering to pay for Pigford fraud. Your government at work.
But it’s a proud, proud moment at the White House for the Proud family -
“Since my first day at USDA, I made it a priority to treat all Americans with respect and dignity and to ensure equal access to our programs. Court approval of the Pigford settlement is another important step to ensure some level of justice for black farmers and ranchers who faced discrimination when trying to obtain services from USDA,” said Secretary Vilsack. “President Obama, Attorney General Holder and I are thrilled by the court’s approval so we can continue turning the page on this sad chapter in USDA history.
Don’t let any facts get in the way, you could get hurt:
The U.S. Census Bureau’s Statistical Abstracts for the United States indicate that in the period from 1981 through 1996, in which the alleged discrimination took place, the number of black farmers in the United States peaked at 33,000 in 1982. But the 15,640 people who actually received compensation under Pigford combined with the 73,800 who applied for compensation after the deadline represent a total of 89,440 potential claims.
Back on Oct. 14, 1999, John W. Boyd Jr., who is president of the National Black Farmers Association, presented written testimony to the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition and Forestry, in which he said that at the end of the millennium “there will be less than 18,000 black farmers” in the United States.
Another advocate Gary R. Grant, president of the Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association, said in a prepared statement at the same subcommittee hearing: “In 1920, 925,000 farmers (14 percent) were black. Today, there are less than 17,000 depending upon the USDA definition of ‘farmer,’ but I assure you the number is far less.”
Protection against fraud, abuse, and waste my arse. “far less” than 17,000 farmers, and Pigford I paid 15,640 of them. As if EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM had been screwed over by USDA. Right. Sure. But that fraud is in the past now, though it sounds to me like perhaps a couple hundred missed the filing deadline back then, yet somehow that number is now more than 68,000. In other words, it’s nearly complete fraud. The real farmers were compensated more than two decades ago.
PS - the 40 acres and a mule was never an actual promise from the government, or even from a general or a magistrate running one of the occupied areas in 1865. It was the policy of General Sherman “as he was marching through Georgia” to get local slaves to cooperate. More than 10,000 of them were given land in the coastal lowlands, but when the war was over and Lincoln was assassinated, the new President Andrew Johnson (a pro-slavery Democrat) kicked them all out and gave the land back to the earlier white owners.
Naturally, in the “blame Bush” inside-out way of the world, ”40 acres and a mule” has come to symbolize the failure of Reconstruction, which wasn’t a failure at all initially, and didn’t happen for several years after this to begin with.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
- Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
- Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
