Henhouse, meet Fox

Tons of UXBs missing in Gaza

“Explosives haul missing in Gaza ”

A large stockpile of unexploded weapons has disappeared in Gaza, before United Nations experts were able to dispose of it safely, the BBC has learned. The explosives, including aircraft bombs and white phosphorus shells, were fired by the Israeli military during its recent offensive in the Gaza Strip.

UN officials said they were urgently trying to establish where the arms had gone and have called for their return.

Israel has accused Hamas of taking the stockpile, which was under Hamas guard.

Well, no shir Shitlock. I’m sure the UN inspectors are Amazed, Simply Amazed.

Cubic stupid. The Izzys should have sent in a detonation squad at once. Or a small airstrike.

Two weeks ago, on 2 February, the UN team was given access to a storage site in Gaza City where more than 7,000kg of explosives was being housed. It included three 2,000-pound bombs and eight 500-pound bombs, which had all been dropped from aircraft but failed to explode. There was also a large number of 155mm shells for delivering the incendiary chemical white phosphorus.

Many of the explosives had been collected by the Hamas authorities in the Gaza Strip.

Oh, don’t worry. I’m sure they’ll turn up eventually ... one rocket or one IED at a time.

I’m getting sick of writing this post

Somali pirates hijack German gas tanker, 13 crew

3rd ship captured this month, at least 21 attempts since December 1

BURN THESE MOTHER***KERS RIGHT DOWN TO THE GROUND. the whole damn country. Somalia? No, it’s called AshHeap these days.Kill them all, and their goats. Burn their villages to ashes. Poison the wells and salt the ground. Sink every last thing that can float from the south shore of the gulf all the way down to Kenya. What in God’s holy name is wrong with the “Great Nations” of the world, whose taxpayer have spent untold TRILLIONS on fancy navies and all their nifty toys? Use them or lose them boyos. This passive pussy bullshit has to end, and it has to end in rope and fire. Because if it doesn’t end that way for Somalia, it will figuratively end that way for us when the cost of shipping stuff puts another economic hurting on the rest of us. And better them savages than us.

And when you’ve punished this bunch so severely that the few survivors are afraid to even go for a swim, then you chug your little boaty-woaties over to the northwest coast of africa and you do it all over again. Even harder. Then head on over to Indonesia and repeat the process, only 25 times more severely. I am out of patience, and I’m sure that a least a billion other folks feel the same way. Get the job done Mr. World Policeman, or retire and we’ll arm ourselves and solve things our own way. And save another few trillion in taxpayer expense. Oh, and don’t think of it as a war on islam, even though exactly 100% of these pirates are rug kissing pedophiles and goat fuckers like old Mobama Mohamma Mohamhead Mo. Think of it as International Justice. Crime Control as a new aspect of the Global War On Terror. See, a UN resolution already exists. That’s good enough, so pull the trigger.

NAIROBI, Kenya – Somali pirates hijacked a German tanker loaded with liquefied petroleum gas Thursday off the Horn of Africa. The ship’s 13-man crew was reported safe even though gunshots were heard over the ship’s radio. The MV Longchamp is the third ship captured this month in the Gulf of Aden, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

The Longchamp, registered in the Bahamas, is managed by the German firm Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, which said in a statement that seven pirates boarded the tanker early Thursday. Spokesman Andre Delau said the ship’s master had been briefly allowed to communicate with the firm and had said the crew of 12 Filipinos and one Indonesian were safe.

“We think that everything is in order, nobody is injured,” he told The Associated Press.

No ransom demands have been made yet, the company said. Lt. Nathan Christensen, a Bahrain-based spokesman for the U.S. 5th Fleet, said the ship was seized off the southern coast of Yemen, about 60 miles (95 kilometers) from the town of al-Mukalla, the capital of the Hadramaut region. Robin Phillips, deputy director of the Bahamas maritime authority in London, said the Longchamp had been traveling in a corridor secured by EU military forces when it sent a distress signal before dawn.

Ships and helicopters were dispatched, but they arrived too late,” said Phillips, adding that gunshots could be heard over the radio. He said the ship later set a course for Somalia, to the south

Hey, when seconds count, the navy is just hours away. Maybe international shipping ought to have CCW too? Only make it so they get the really good shit; no weapons under 50 caliber that aren’t capable of shooting down airliners.

Leaflet’s ‘blindingly obvious’ safety suggestions for Christmas
The government has printed thousands of leaflets containing “blindingly obvious” safety tips for the festive period.

The ‘blindingly-obvious’ leaflets were printed with the authority of Children’s Secretary Ed Balls Photo: PA

The leaflets, which have been printed with the authority of Children’s Secretary Ed Balls, tells parents that children could be hurt if they fall off rocking horses or ride their new bikes into walls.

(bet you guys reading this did not know that. so consider this a PSA for Americans too, paid for by the wealthy Brit taxpayer.)

It also alerts people to the dangers of tinsel, with a thousand people each year apparently “hurt by trimmings or when decorating their homes.”

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has printed the 150,000 leaflets designed to look like advent calendars, to be distributed through shopping malls and children’s centres “to help make the festive season safe”.

Safety tips featured in “Tis the Season to be Careful” include a warning that parents may cut themselves with knives when trying to prize open presents quickly.

The leaflets also recommend avoiding decorations like baubles that break easily, as the pieces can be very sharp.

Children’s minister Delyth Morgan said the leaflet would remind parents of safeguards-around the home so they can “make sure Christmas is a time for fun and laughter but not tears”.

Tory junior Children’s spokesman Tim Loughton said: “This is yet more evidence that the DCSF really stands for the Department that Can’t Stop Fiddling.

“It is ironic that a Government Department which has become accident prone for messing up test results, pouring millions into databases that don’t work and failing to protect our most vulnerable children is now spending thousands on producing leaflets to state the blindingly obvious.”

More News That’s No Surprise

Feds won’t prosecute Former NY Gov Spitzer

Toldja so! The rich and the connected are above the law. The rest of us dumb schmucks pay the price. Good old “law and order” former prostituter prosecutor, Govenor, and Client #9, Eliot Spitzer, shows us all once again that it’s who you know that counts.

Disgraced former Gov. Eliot Spitzer escaped prosecution yesterday for a sensational hooker scandal that forced him to resign, despite admitting to investigators - and for the first time publicly - that he was a john of the Emperors Club VIP.
...
US Attorney Michael Garcia said Spitzer “has acknowledged to this office that he was a client of, and made payments to, the Emperors Club VIP,” an international prostitution ring busted in March.

After the bust of the high-end brothel, it was disclosed that Spitzer was the person identified in the criminal complaint as “Client 9,” who arranged multiple high-priced trysts while in Washington, DC, and Florida.

Spitzer - who resigned on March 12 after 14 turbulent months in office - was spared the added humiliation of trial after a “thorough investigation” by the IRS and FBI found no evidence he misused public or campaign cash, the feds said.

No doubt Obama will give him a cabinet level position as Director of Public Morals or some such nonsense. What a crock.

Critics, Posts, and the Same Old Crap

An email from Walt, BMEWS member for a year and a half, never made a comment:

Thought I’d let you know that I cleaned up my bookmarks file today and deleted Barking-Moonbat.  Why?  I realized that over the months I have quit reading the blog regularly, probably because most of the posts were from and about Europe.  Too bad you guys ruined a really good blog after Alan passed.  I’ll bet your site meter is way down too.

Over at Vilmar’s blog, my dearest old pal Old Cat Man feels we’re floundering. How we’ve ever managed to get by without his constant sunny input is a miracle beyond my understanding.

Hey, guess what? Allan and Vilmar aren’t running things anymore. Too bad. Yes we have more of an international flavor these days. So what? You think the whole world is just the USA? Or that moonbattery is only limited to our shores? Guess again. Oh, and I couldn’t shiv a git about site meter stats. Hell, I ripped that thing out last month when it went all flukey. I’m not doing this to be Mr. Popular. It’s a hobby, m’kay, not a business.

No, I don’t put up 20 posts a day. And I’m not going to. Unless it’s just some graphics it takes me quite a while to put one of these posts together; it’s a lot more than just seeing something in the paper and deciding to paste it in. Some of the stuff requires actual research. Some of it requires more than a bit of thought. And some of us aren’t retired, so we’re out trying to earn a living instead of sitting in front of a keyboard all day surfing around looking for things to post about.

So yeah, my posting level has been down lately. Sorry. No. Not Sorry. I’ve been earning a living instead. And I’m suffering political burnout again. Same shit, different day, it never changes. The Left is screwing everything up, and lying out it’s ass about it all the time. And the news people are totally part of it. It stops being a whacky conspiracy theory when it can be shown to be true.

Here’s a post from Ann Coulter, preaching to the choir, telling us what we already knew. What the media is forgetting to mention, or simply explaining away. A large part of this End Of The World financial crisis was brought on by the left. No shit Sherlock. The rest of it was brought on by fraudulent debt packaging practices. No shit, twice.

Before the Democrats’ affirmative action lending policies became an embarrassment, the Los Angeles Times reported that, starting in 1992, a majority-Democratic Congress “mandated that Fannie and Freddie increase their purchases of mortgages for low-income and medium-income borrowers. Operating under that requirement, Fannie Mae, in particular, has been aggressive and creative in stimulating minority gains.”

Under Clinton, the entire federal government put massive pressure on banks to grant more mortgages to the poor and minorities. Clinton’s secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Andrew Cuomo, investigated Fannie Mae for racial discrimination and proposed that 50 percent of Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s portfolio be made up of loans to low- to moderate-income borrowers by the year 2001.

Hey, good for her. I knew this. You knew this too. But I didn’t write about it. I can only bang the alarm gong so many times before my arm gets sore. Clinton sycophant Jamie Gorelick had a huge hand in screwing up Fannie Mae. You knew that as well. Yeah, the same Gorelick who built the walls between the FBI and the CIA that helped 9/11 happen, and was on the bench during the Clinton white wash 9/11 Commission Hearings instead of under investigation. And she’ll get away with this too. Clinton is God, all his people are Angels, and nothing bad will ever happen to them - fingers won’t even be pointed in their direction - unless Hillary decides that they need to be dead. When this fiscal mess is past, I fully expect there to be huge investigations. And I guarantee you that critical records will be missing, or that Sandy Burglar will pay a visit wearaing baggy trousers. And nothgin will be done, except to blame Republicans of political corruption and nefarious business practices. Just ask Nancy Pelosi.

See? Same shit, different day. I’ll blog my ass off if I can find something actually new to write about.

It’s a start

Keith Olbermann And Chris Matthews Dumped As Anchors

imageimage

MSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as the anchors of live political events, bowing to growing criticism that they are too opinionated to be seen as neutral in the heat of the presidential campaign.

The move, confirmed by spokesmen for both networks, follows increasingly loud complaints about Olbermann’s anchor role at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Olbermann, who regularly assails President Bush and GOP nominee John McCain on his “Countdown” program, was effusive in praising the acceptance speech of Democratic nominee Barack Obama. He drew flak Thursday when the Republicans played a video that included a tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, saying that if the networks had done that, “we would be rightly eviscerated at all quarters, perhaps by the Republican Party itself, for exploiting the memories of the dead, and perhaps even for trying to evoke that pain again. If you reacted to that videotape the way I did, I apologize.”

Matthews, who has criticized politicians in both parties, drew less criticism for his convention role but became a divisive figure during the primaries when he described how he was inspired by Obama’s speeches and made disparaging remarks about Hillary Clinton, for which he later apologized.

In May, MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in an interview that during live events Olbermann and Matthews “put on different hats. I think the audience gets it. . . . I see zero problem.”

But NBC News journalists, who often appear on the cable channel, did see a problem, arguing behind the scenes that MSNBC’s move to the left—which includes a new show, debuting tonight, for Air America radio host Rachel Maddow—was tarnishing their reputation for fairness. Tom Brokaw, the interim host of “Meet the Press,” said that at times Olbermann and Matthews went too far.

“Tarnishing their reputation for fairness”? That’s got to be the best joke of the day!

Quoth the Times:

MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.

That experiment appears to be over.

After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.

The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.

“perceived shift”? ROFLMAO!! Surely the Times didn’t notice such a thing! Why, everyone who works there watches MSNBC all the time!

Thank God! Somebody at the networks finally saw the light. Maybe it came from the hole created by their plunging ratings falling right through the bottom of the tank, letting in a little sunlight and fresh air for once?

Michael J. Totten Reports: Russia started it

“Saakashvili is accused of starting this war on the 7th,” he said.

“Right,” I said. “But that sounds like complete bs to me if what you say is true.”

Thomas Goltz nodded.

Another great job of reporting by Michael J. Totten: The Georgian conflict has been going on since 1991, with tens of thousands of casualties. This latest round was completely started by the Russians, days before the “official” war began, and everything you have heard on the TV news has been almost total bullshit. It’s a long read, but well worth it: GO HERE AND SEE FOR YOURSELF.

A most apt comment there:

All of this information was already available to those with the inking to search. A simple Google search reveals stories from last year and beyond about Russian military movements around Georgia.

Even without that, it was clear from the efficency and specificity of the Russian attack that it had been planned to the letter, and was not an ad hoc reaction to “sudden” Georgian aggression.

A clear 3 step process on the part of Russia:
1. Move troops into place.
2. Have Ossetian puppets provoke a response.
3. Invade.

Yeah, no shit.

H/T to the Rott.

Slightly off topic but still relevant: Cossacks! Links lead to other links which lead to other links, etc. Some lead back to another Totten article here on Tbilisi.

Bush Sucks But Congress Sucks Thrice As Bad

Congressional Approval Ratings Fall To All-Time Low

The percentage of voters who give Congress good or excellent ratings has fallen to single digits for the first time in Rasmussen Reports tracking history. This month, just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job. Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category.

Last month, 11% of voters gave the legislature good or excellent ratings. Congress has not received higher than a 15% approval rating since the beginning of 2008.

Well no kidding. They haven’t done a damn thing except spend far more money than they steal from us. Is this the Change the Obamessiah has promised us? The Democrat controlled Congress and Senate has been an abhorrent failure. Only NINE percent think they’re doing a decent job. Meanwhile, Bush’s approval ratings are at 27%, and although that’s a horrendously bad number, it’s exactly three times higher than the Legislator gets. Or, to put it in terms the MSM would kill themselves before using, his approval rating is 300% higher than theirs. How about them apples?

The percentage of Democrats who give Congress positive ratings fell from 17% last month to 13% this month. The number of Democrats who give Congress a poor rating remained unchanged. Among Republicans, 8% give Congress good or excellent ratings, up just a point from last month. Sixty-five percent (65%) of GOP voters say Congress is doing a poor job, down a single point from last month.

Voters not affiliated with either party are the most critical of Congressional performance. Just 3% of those voters give Congress positive ratings, down from 6% last month. Sixty-three percent (63%) believe Congress is doing a poor job, up from 57% last month.

I guess that shows that the only folks blindly supportive of their political party are the ones who actually work for that political party. The rest of us can see that they all suck chunks.

Despite these negative attitudes towards Congress, Democrats continue to enjoy a double digit lead on the Generic Congressional Ballot.

‘Momma always said, “Stupid is as stupid does”.’ The entire country is sick to death of this worthless, inept, and corrupt group that the Democrats are in charge of, so of course they want more of the same. Huh? Stuck on stupid much? I guess we should start spelling the word as “Gumpvernment”.

Most voters (72%) think most members of Congress are more interested in furthering their own political careers. Just 14% believe members are genuinely interested in helping people.

Wow, that one gets the salute from Captain Obvious. Hey people, here’s an idea: THROW THEM ALL OUT AND START OVER. The very least you can do is to vote out every incumbent running for re-election. That’s a small start. At this point I don’t think the party affiliation makes much difference. Both sides are pathetic.

Goose Creek Update

Remember those two Egyptian “students” from almost a year ago, the ones who were caught outside the US Navy’s armaments yard in Goose Creek MD? The two guys who had “fireworks” in their car, that turned out to be plastic explosives? Yeah, the same two with the laptop PC chock full of jihadi shit and plans for making bombs. The same two guys who had that remote control RC car in the trunk?

Student facing explosives charges agrees to plea deal

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — An attorney for an Egyptian college student facing federal explosives charges says her client will plead guilty to a charge of providing material support to terrorists.

Attorney Lisa Moreno said Friday Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Prosecutors will dismiss all other charges under the deal, according to court documents. South Carolina Deputies say they arrested Mohamed and Youssef Samir Megahed in August after finding explosives in the trunk of their car. Defense attorneys have said the explosives were merely ingredients for homemade fireworks.

Megahed is still awaiting trial on federal explosives charges.

As part of the plea agreement, eight other charges against Mohamed were dropped.

Mohamed and another former USF student, Youssef Megahed, were arrested last August in South Carolina after a traffic stop. Police found materials in their vehicle that can be used to make explosives.

Megahed is facing charges of illegally transporting explosive materials and a destructive device across state lines. If convicted, he faces 10 to 16 months in prison. He has been released on $200,000 bond.

So either The Man got to this one and waterboarded him into a phoney guilty plea, or it turns out the little freak was out there trying to be a terrorist after all. No shir, shitlock. The only good news is that they caught these two before they were “in the act”, so I guess charges of actually committing terrorism didn’t stick. After reading the second (original) news story, I guess Mega-head was just the driver, while Ahmed Mohamed was the wannabe bomber. Fuck ‘em both.

As the FBI said at the time “Nothing to see here, move along. This is absolutely not a case of terrorism.” Who do they think they’re fooling with that crap anyway?

Nice Work If You Can Get It

How the heck do these dweebs get funding for crap like this? More importantly, how do I get on this gravy train???

Study: Women in Bikinis Make Men More Impulsive

File this one under the category “Surprise, Sex Sells Everything!!”

Bikinis and other sexy stimuli can make men more prone to seek immediate gratification — leading to blown diets, budgets and bank accounts, new research suggests.

In the study, detailed in the Journal of Consumer Research, men alternately fondled t-shirts and bras (which were not being worn during the test).  After touching the bras, men valued the future less and the present more, said lead researcher Bram Van Den Bergh of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. Viewing ads with women in bikinis had the same effect. It wasn’t that the men were simply distracted by their sexual arousal, which caused them to choose more impulsively. On the contrary, they exhibited improved cognition and creativity after exposure to sexy stimuli.

“But honey, research has proven that this is good for my brain!!”

The bikini effect does vary in strength from person to person, Van Den Bergh said. While most men are vulnerable to subtle types of stimuli — like sexy ads and touching lingerie — others may need to see a woman nude before feeling impulsive.

No matter, Van Den Bergh warned, “being exposed to a sexy girl may influence what stock you invest in or what candy bar you buy.”
Taken together, all this research, she said “is the beginning of something fascinating.”

The study was funded by a research division of Aegis Group, a marketing company.

Wow. I’m just speechless over this. Who would have ever figured this? Men like sex, and being around naked hot women tends to short circuit their reasoning. Gosh. Phase Two of the research project is rumored to be called “Beer, the wonder liquid”.

A little common sense?

I still think my plan is better. Not only does it cut the price of oil 80% over night, it scares the crap out of the entire planet. Hey, if they don’t respect you make them fear you. But in the meantime, please click over to NRO and read the rest of this piece. It’s about the uncontrolled speculation on the oil commodities market, which is responsible for a huge amount of the price of oil, and suggests several ways to limit that impact.

In my opinion the world needs to be on an oil standard. The same way that the world used to be on a gold standard when gold was fixed at $32 per ounce. What we are going through now is very similar to the Tulip Craze. PLEASE take 60 seconds to click the link and read up on that one if you aren’t familiar with it. The bottom line is that unchecked speculation leads to disaster. And we are currently on the very edge of the abyss, and a very large part of the reason why is another out of control speculation situation. We need some common sense ASAP. But lacking that, and the whole damn world seems to be lacking that, we need to put some brakes onto this runaway train as fast as we can.

An astonishing thing happened last Thursday and Friday: oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose by almost $17 per barrel, or roughly 14 percent. At the same time, the wholesale price for unleaded gasoline added another $0.36 per gallon, or 11 percent.

Media and analysts were quick to blame this unprecedented spike on the declining value of the dollar, on brewing tension between Israel and Iran, and on increasing demand for oil in China, India, and other expanding economies. But this was a market event, not an economic or geopolitical one: Futures trading and speculation is unquestionably putting upside pressure on oil prices.

Those skeptical about investors’ role in rising energy costs should be persuaded by last week’s events. The time has come to consider new commodities-futures regulations in order to prevent an unnecessary speculative oil spike, with all the collateral economic damage that will attend it.

Nothing makes conservatives queasier than regulation, especially of financial markets. But oil’s meteoric rise from $50 in January 2007 to almost $139 on Friday calls for drastic measures that might solve this crisis without a measure as drastic as the gas tax Charles Krauthammer proposed on Friday.

In the past, energy price appreciations of last week’s magnitude have typically been caused by supply disruptions — like the 1973 OPEC embargo, or the 4 million barrels per day in lost production that followed the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, which restricted international oil supplies for several years and caused a spike in prices.

In this decade, though, world oil production has continued to rise, making it difficult for simple supply and demand to explain the explosion in oil’s price from $20 in 2002. The Energy Information Association reports that since 2002, world petroleum production has risen from 76.995 million barrels per day to 84.594 million barrels per day in 2007, a 9.87 percent increase. Over the same period, demand has gone from 78.036 million barrels per day to 85.354 million barrels, a 9.38 percent increase. So total world oil production actually rose faster than demand, but prices increased by almost 400 percent nonetheless. Kind of throws a monkey-wrench into blaming this crisis on China and India’s lust for crude, doesn’t it?

The fact is, the explosion in oil futures trading on the various exchanges around the world has unquestionably been a huge factor in the nearly 200-percent increase in oil prices since January 2007.
...
As a pure capitalist, I’m all for defending the free market. However, with food and energy prices going through the roof largely due to commodities speculation, calling these markets “free” seems a tad oxymoronic.

This article makes sense. If the children won’t behave, and they aren’t, then Mommy has to call a time-out, and change the rules of the games they’re playing. Because you don’t want to wait until Daddy gets home, especially if you put me in the Daddy roll. Please go read the rest and make up your own mind. Will this work, or not? Why or why not? Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
