The Miller Lite Of Pocket Pistols?

Generally people aren’t flat and square, but their pistols are. Try and stick a regular pocket pistol in your pocket, and odds are that it will really stretch the fabric, especially at the corners. This is called “printing”, and everybody and their one eyed old hound dog can see that L shaped lump you’ve “concealed” and know just what it is.

Worse, you carry a little gun in your pocket, and it lets you know it’s there all the time. One corner or another will always be digging in, riding up, wearing a hole in the fabric, maybe worse. All those little levers and buttons rubbing you raw and collecting lint.

So Taurus built themselves a curved pistol. And named it ... The Curve. How original!! It’s a distinctly right handed affair that’s curved top to bottom and (I think) front to back. And then they added a blob to the front that houses both an LED flashlight and a laser aiming site. But the blob makes the shape look more like a wallet than a typical firearm. So what you get is more comfort. And less obvious printing.

The curved concept only goes so far. The barrel, frame, rails, and other internals are all properly straight and lined up. It’s only the external body of the gun that has the bends.

Notice that there are no sites to snag on things, just a couple of white lines. Good enough at 10 feet in a panic situation. Plus there’s that laser site, which is adjustable, for making accurate longer shots. And it even comes with a removable waistband clip, which helps keep your pocket pistol from sliding down and becoming your socks pistol.

GRAND BEACH, Man. — A Manitoba man has turned his cellphone case over to police after it caused panic on a crowded public beach.

The black case, shaped like a handgun, was tucked in the waistband of the man’s shorts on Sunday while he was at Grand Beach north of Winnipeg.

RCMP were called and responded with real rifles and Tasers. They found the man sitting on the beach with family members, including children, and quickly determined he was only armed with an iPhone.

Sgt. Bert Paquet says the 34-year-old man was questioned and voluntarily gave officers the case for disposal. He will not face charges.  [ Drew: Open carry in Canada is illegal, eh? ]

“While the individual knew this item to be a fake gun, our officers did not,” said Paquet.

“Some people do not realize the risks associated with openly carrying or displaying these replicas in a public space. Anyone who owns this type or similar devices should safely dispose of them immediately.”

Moar? Sure, why not ...

Last week, Deputy Inspector Judith Harrison of the New York Police Department posted a message on Twitter warning consumers against buying the case.

The New Jersey State Police also recommended that people not buy the case.

“This cell phone case is a terrible idea,” the department said in a Facebook posting. “Officers do not have the luxury of time when making split-second decisions while interacting with the public.”

The prosecutor’s office in Ocean County, N.J., also commented on Facebook.

“Please folks — this cell phone case is not a cool product or a good idea,” the posting read.

Michael J. Bouchard, a Michigan sheriff, said last week there was too much potential for dangerous misunderstanding if a student walked into a school or a person walked into a bank with one of the cases.

“It looks like literally you have a weapon sticking out of your back pocket,” he said in an interview with WXYZ-TV in Detroit. “We are not a big fan of it on any level.”

Reviews for the cases on Amazon suggest that consumers see the same safety hazard as law enforcement officials — and are even more frank in their derision.

“Wonder if the imbeciles who buy this case will live long enough to enjoy it,” wrote an Amazon user under a listing for one of the cases. “Amazon should remove it from their site.”

“What moron came up with this idea?” wrote another reviewer. “We live in a society where every time there is an incident involving police, people immediately whip out their cell phones to record it.

“Can you imagine the reaction of police in the middle of a tense situation seeing someone pull this device out?”

It doesn’t take more than a millisecond of thought to realize what a monumentally stupid idea this accessory is. Whoever adds it to their shopping cart might as well toss in a Darwin Award too.

Man oh man. Some people are either really really stupid, or just plain confrontational. This one is way beyond passive / aggressive. It’s looking to cause a problem.

Use your brain people. Even if you live in a thug culture environment you’re better off packing real heat than pretending to. A pretend weapon can get you in just as bad a situation as a real one, and then you have no way out.

Liberal Follies Round 1911: Tax The Bullets!

Seattle is ready to tax guns and bullets. The City Council unanimously passed a special tax on Monday, and Mayor Ed Murray signaled his support for the measure.

The new law will impose a $25 tax on guns and a 5-cent tax on bullets sold within the city limits. Lawmakers called it a “gun violence tax” because proceeds would be used for prevention and research programs to reduce gun violence in Seattle.

The law is based on a similar $25 gun tax that passed in Cook County, Illinois, in 2013. The Seattle budget office estimates the law will raise $300,000 to $500,000 a year.

Seattle estimates that direct medical costs from gunshot wounds totaled $17 million last year, with taxpayers picking up $12 million of the costs. The Urban Institute estimated that gun violence costs U.S. taxpayers $500 million a year.

The gun industry group, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, also opposes the law. It said it is toothless, since many criminals do not purchase guns legally.

“It’s misguided because it will only harm law abiding businesses,” said Lawrence Keane, senior vice president and general counsel for the NSSF. “It’s like imposing a tax on a pharmacy to address a heroin epidemic.”

He also said the city isn’t going to raise much tax revenue, because buyers will go elsewhere.

“The economic model they used is a fallacy,” he said.

The economic model is a phallusy? Does that mean it was thought up by some dick?

I like the line though. Tax the pharmacies to address a heroin epidemic. Gotta remember that one.

One more instance of the loonie left making laws and taxes to screw the hard working and law abiding, while doing absolutely nothing to prevent crime.

When i saw drones freely on sale all i could think was the wheels of common sense had come off the world then i remembered Obama is in charge of America...

I hadn’t really thought about a disabled drone flying into anything or endangering other people, so I guess a case can be made against this guy.
But heck .... first degree crime?

William H. Merideth, 47, from Kentucky was charged with first degree criminal mischief and first-degree wanton endangerment.

The owner of the drone claims he was only trying to take pictures of a friend’s house, when Merideth shot at the device, sending it crashing into a field near his yard last weekend.

‘My daughter comes in and says, ‘Dad, there’s a drone out here flying,’ ‘ he told WDRD.

‘I went and got my shotgun and I said, ‘I’m not going to do anything unless it’s directly over my property,’ ‘ Mr. Merideth said, noting that the drone briefly disappeared when his daughter waved it off.

‘Within a minute or so, here it came. It was hovering over top of my property, and I shot it out of the sky. I didn’t shoot across the road, I didn’t shoot across my neighbor’s fences, I shot directly into the air.’

Four men were about to confront him after the drone was shot out of the sky, but he says they soon changed their minds when they saw his personal firearms.

‘I had my Glock on me and they started toward me and I told them, ‘If you cross my sidewalk, there’s gonna be another shooting,’ ‘ Mr. Merideth told the station.

The police arrested the homeowner soon afterwards.

A Timely Response

A nasty crime spree in my general area comes to a close.

4 murders and 1 attempted murder in NJ (at the east end of Route 78)

A 22-year-old Elizabeth man has been charged with three homicides and one nonfatal shooting in Elizabeth on June 25 as well as the shooting death of his cousin the month before.

In Union County, West has been charged with the shooting deaths of Dennis Vega, 28, Jamil Payne, 29, Kelvin Nelson, 32, all of Elizabeth, who were killed on June 25 and the May 18 shooting death of West’s cousin, Michael Thompkins, 29, in the hallway of his Elizabeth home. West also is facing attempted murder and weapons charges in connection with the June 25 shooting of Richard Marte, 24, of Elizabeth. Park said Marte is recovering from his injuries but is expected to survive.

“We have never seen one individual commit this type of shootings spree, murder spree in such a short period of time in this county,” Park said Thursday during a news conference.

[Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. ] Park said Todd West was charged with murder and a number of weapons offenses after he was arrested this week in Pennsylvania in connection with two July 5 homicides in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he has family and one in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Twenty-nine minutes after buying ammunition for a .38-caliber revolver at a Walmart, three men in a white sport utility vehicle opened fire early Sunday in Easton’s West Ward, the start of a bloody rampage that left three dead, authorities said Tuesday in announcing arrests.

Kory Ketrow, 22, was gunned down at 3:14 a.m. in the 1100 block of Lehigh Street as he walked home. Minutes later, about a mile away, one of the men in the SUV fired at a couple driving near Route 22 in Easton’s downtown, authorities said.

That couple was spared when the shooter missed his mark, but authorities said the spree of indiscriminate shooting was not over.

The men in the SUV made their way to Allentown, where they opened fire on Francine E. Ramos, 32, and Trevor D. Gray, 21, two Allentown residents riding in a car near Sixth and Greenleaf streets, authorities said.

Ramos crashed into the SUV in an attempt to get away, authorities said, but she was found dead in her car at 3:59 a.m. Gray died a short time later.

At separate news conferences detailing the violent crime spree, authorities in Lehigh and Northampton counties said they did not know why the three men arrested — one from Easton and two from New Jersey —fired at people randomly early Sunday morning.

“Based on the evidence, all of these acts, all of them, appear to be completely random,” Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said Tuesday afternoon.

Robert A. Jourdain, 20, of Easton; Todd West, 22, of Elizabeth, N.J.; and Kareem Mitchell, 23, of Newark, N.J., were arrested Monday and face three counts of homicide in the killings, and two counts of attempted homicide in the downtown Easton shooting.

Jourdain and West also were charged in three Allentown knifepoint muggings that happened the day after the killings, police said. They were arrested when Allentown patrolmen chased them down minutes after the third Monday morning mugging. Mitchell turned himself in later that day.

That makes 7 murders and 3 attempted murders, for a total of 10 shootings. All by the same guy, with the same gun, although sometimes he had some help with him.

So what’s the public outcry? Stop selling ammo late night at Wal-mart.

He was a random victim who authorities say didn’t know his assailant, identified by police as Todd West, 22, of Elizabeth, N.J.

West killed Ketrow and two other people in Allentown with ammunition purchased at 2:45 that morning at the Wal-Mart in Lower Nazareth Township, police said.

“I think Wal-Mart should be held accountable,” said Rich Bader, whose family took in Ketrow the past few years. “I don’t understand what a young man 20 years of age is doing coming in to buy ammo at that hour and he gets it. It shouldn’t happen.”

Police say 20-year-old Robert Jourdain, of Easton, who is among three men charged in the three killings with West, bought the .38-caliber bullets used in shootings.

A spokesman for Wal-Mart couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Bader said he’s only just begun to rally support for a change in the law that would outlaw bullet sales at certain times. It would be called “Kory’s Law” and forbid ammunition sales between 10 at night and 5 in the morning, he said.

“I feel Kory didn’t die in vain. He died for a reason,” said Bader, who has a 21-year-old son of his own. “I believe the reason is we’ll be able to change some gun laws.

I feel bad for these people, I do. It’s horrible that these lives were snuffed out for no reason at all by some psychotic bastard. But if had had to wait another few hours to get more bullets, then the shootings would have just happened the next night. Most likely to some other people. And he’d still have more than half a box of ammo left, and who knows, he could still be out there on the lamb.  I’m not really sure that outlawing late night sales would do a thing, other than perhaps annoy some hunters somewhere down the line in the fall.

Gun Porn

An almost perfect idea

What it is, is a .177 caliber pellet rifle that uses #209 shotgun primers as a power source. So it goes BANG pretty well, and zips a little lead pellet along at about 700fps. More than fast enough to knock holes in paper from across the room. Powerful enough for mice and perhaps even rats.

It’s the concept that I like; the thing is marketed as an indoor rifle.

A break open muzzleloading light weight handy rifle with modern technical features and ideal for indoor shooting. The 4.5mm caliber barrel folds down by pushing a lever in front of the triggerguard. Ramrod is stored on the upper part of the barrel. Buttstock with checkered grip and black plastic buttplate and forearm. Stock is hardwood with a satin finish. 2 1/2” drop with 14 1/2” trigger pull. Barrel is 4.5mm (.177) caliber, blued. 17 3/4” in length, round - .570 outside diameter, rifled with 10 lands and grooves. This is a 1 in 15” twist. Has front sight - blued steel blade style and rear sight - blued steel open style. Ignition is percussion - 209 primer only. Features color casehardened receiver blued steel furniture. Overall length is 34 5/8” and weighs 3 1/2 lbs. Accessories include a steel ramrod w/brass tip threaded 5/32” and a brass brush. Recommended load is .177 BB. Average muzzle velocity is 690 ft/sec. Manufactured by Pedersoli/Italy.

About $400. From Pedersoli, so you know it’s a well made firearm.



Indoor rifles. Harrrummph.

But pellet guns fired by primers? Almost a great idea. How about taking it up a notch? Or up 5 notches? And moving outside of course.

How about a pellet rifle powered by those nailgun blanks? Heck, those yellow ones can drive a bolt into 5” of hardened concrete. Think what they’d do to a pellet!! Answer: a lot! And it’s already been done. The hotter blanks can push a little .22 airgun pellet at more than 2800fps, more than double the speed of a .22LR bullet (which weighs 3 times as much).  They don’t seem too accurate though, which is no surprise what with pellet gun vs rifle bore diameter differences, and lot to lot variation of nail gun blanks, which probably aren’t built to exacting pressure specs like actual ammunition.

So where do we go from there? Hey, how about real bullets in real rifles, propelled by nail gun blanks? And once again, it’s been done. But, and this is the nice but, but it’s a better solution. Swage down a slightly oversize soft lead ball, lube it up and load it into a custom made adapter cartridge, and even the mid power nail gun loads will push a 30gr chunk of lead at better than 900fps. And with an adapter, you can get one for every caliber. Naturally, the smaller the bore, the faster the bullet. But blasting squirrels and rats with an 80gr bullet in your .375 H&H safari rifle has to be a hoot.

See? This is why I reload. I don’t need to buy the adapter. Or the custom funky little rifle, even though it’s rather neat. Lubed round ball loads work in just about every rifle, and usually 5-8 grains of either Bullseye or Unique powder will get them up to suitable backyard hunting speed. In the larger calibers, these nearly silent rounds pack nearly as much power as a .357 Magnum pistol. They aren’t toys at all.

No Good Reason Necessary

Injunction issued against ‘good reason’ requirement for concealed carry permit

A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction saying the District of Columbia’s new concealed carry law is unconstitutional.

The order, issued Monday by Judge Frederick J. Scullin, was the second decision in less than a year declaring the Washington, D.C., gun carry laws to be unconstitutional. In October of 2014, the same judge ruled that the district’s complete ban on gun carry was also in violation of the Constitution.

Scullin barred DC Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier from enforcing the city’s requirement that a person applying for a concealed carry permit must prove they have a “good reason” to need one. This requirement created a system where only those with police reports detailing violent threats against them could obtain a permit.

Critics said the requirement was the reason few permits had been issued thus far, and argued that it violates the Second Amendment.

The “good reason” clause was used to deny three men who wished to carry weapons in the District permits. The men—Joshua Akery, Tyler Whidby, and Brian Wrenn—joined with the Second Amendment Foundation to file suit against the city.

In Monday’s order, the court sided with the plaintiffs.

“This conclusion should not be read to suggest that it would be inappropriate for the District of Columbia to enact a licensing mechanism that includes appropriate time, place and manner restrictions on the carrying of handguns in public,” Judge Scullin said in his ruling. “The District of Columbia’s arbitrary ‘good reason’/’proper reason’ requirement, however, goes far beyond establishing such reasonable restrictions.”

Well of course. By DC’s failed reasoning, the only people who “need” a gun are probably already marked for death. So why issue them one, when it will probably cause some poor “misunderstood youth” to have his new career as an aspiring rapper cut short?

FAIL. And another BS law is soooo outta here. We hope.

Rights regulated by permits aren’t rights. They are permissions at best. And additional taxes. Temporary permissions.

Redefining The Term

Even in ultra liberal New York City, I’m amazed these assclowns didn’t get the crap beat out of them. Hourly.

A “gun shop” that suddenly appeared in the heart of Manhattan last week only to close its doors after two days was actually an elaborate ruse by a pro-gun control group that sought to lure potential customers in order to make their anti-firearms case.

States United to Prevent Gun Violence set up the “Guns with History Gun Shop” on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, and pretended to offer for sale guns used in high-profile crimes. The phony sales pitches were really part of a “social experiment”—pretexts for telling customers about the dangers of gun proliferation in unconsummated transactions recorded by hidden cameras, according to the group. In one such conversation, the bogus clerk shows a replica Bushmaster assault rifle like the one Connecticut State Police said Adam Lanza used in the Sandy Hook school massacre.

“Collectors love this one,” the actor states in a video the anti-gun group posted on YouTube. “Adam Lanza’s mom had this in her collection, too, until he took this and several other guns and killed her and then went down to Sandy Hook and killed 6 teachers and 20 innocent children. Twenty little kids…Gone like that.”

Pro-gun advocates called the effort a misleading stunt.

“This is a tasteless PR stunt designed to further an anti-gun agenda, and it’s out of touch with reality,” NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker told FoxNews.com. “As gun ownership has risen to an all-time high, violent crime has fallen to a 43-year low, and the firearm accident death rate has fallen to the lowest that it has been in over a hundred years. A clear majority of the American people support the use of firearms for protection and put more faith in gun ownership rights than in gun control.”

Another critic blasted the fake gun shop, calling it “the most disgusting and outrageous stunt” gun control “extremists” have cooked up to date.

The replica weapons displayed at the store bore tags linking them to specific crimes, while a sign in the front window beckoned passersby with a sign saying, “First-time gun buyer? We are here to help you.” Several purported customers were shocked when they learned of the stories behind each of the guns.

“A very handy gun,” the clerk says in another segment as he shows a 9-mm. semiautomatic to another customer. “Easy to use. It’s a great gun to carry in your purse, like that gal from the Walmart, her 2-year-old son reaches into her pocketbook, pulls it out, shoots her.”

That must have been the biggest and strongest 2 year old in human history. Actually, no, I’m not buying it AT ALL. The pistol was a S&W M&P Shield.  I’ve handled one. No way on earth a toddler could even pull the trigger, with it’s 6lb pull and 2 3/4” reach. No. Sorry, either she committed suicide or one of her older kids shot her, probably by accident, and everyone is playing “blame the baby” because they know nothing will come of it. Plus the damn gun has a safety, which has been shown to accidentally engage itself. That’s right, the safety turns on easily when the gun moves around in a holster. Look it up.

San Fran Cops Honor 10 Year Old Boy

Fairfield police last week recognized a 10-year-old boy and his father for courageous actions they took in September, police said.

Nathaniel Biggs was visiting the Cordelia branch of the Solano County Library on Sept. 15 when he saw a friend put a semi-automatic handgun into a backpack. When Nathaniel’s father Jason picked him up at the library, Nathaniel told his father about what he had seen, and Jason called Fairfield police.

Officers responded and located and detained Nathaniel’s friend without incident. Officers also located the handgun and a fixed blade knife and a Shuriken in the backpack of Nathaniel’s friend.

Police said because of the information provided by Jason and Nathaniel, police were able to recover an illegally possessed and stolen firearm.

On the one hand .... gosh, isn’t this great, kid helps stop the violence, because #kidslivesmatter. And so forth.

On the other hand ... little nanny state do gooder sells out his friend. How old do you think a 10 year old boy’s friends are anyway? 10? Maybe 12? Certainly not 24. Not with a backpack doing homework at the library. The friend was 11. With a gun, and a big knife, and a throwing star. Do you think that kid is still in jail? Hell no. And have you heard the expression “stitches for snitches”? Wasn’t it great of the police to publicly honor the kid and for the press to run the story with his name and photo? Just in case friend 11 didn’t figure out who outed him?

Says the police: Without their involvement, the firearm would not have been recovered and the child would have continued playing with it, possibly with disastrous results. This is a perfect example of what can be accomplished when alert citizens speak up and partner with the police department. Together we can make Fairfield a safer community!

Sorry to rain on your parade, but if the kid also had a big knife and a ninja star, there wasn’t any playing going on. Kid had a 3 layer plan to either fend off or deliver death. There’s a serious, serious problem here of some kind. Gangs, criminals, bullying, abuse, something.

In the five months since Jan Morgan banned Muslims from her gun range in Hot Springs, Ark., business has boomed and predictions of a lawsuit brought by federal civil rights enforcers have so far proved inaccurate.

Morgan, who claims keeping Muslims out of her Gun Cave Indoor Firing Range is a matter of public safety and not a constitutional issue, says she made the decision in September after two customers she deemed suspicious visited. She said their furtive behavior and cellphone ringtones of “Allahu Akhbar” prompted her to revise her range’s policies.

“We are dealing in lethal firearms,” Morgan told FoxNews.com. “I’m not going to let a Nazi shoot in here, or a Ku Klux Klan member in here, either.”

Morgan said she excludes those she believes to be Muslim based on their names. She says business is up, but she has gotten threats, which she brushed off.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Arkansas also has petitioned federal authorities to do something about Morgan’s rules. [along with petitions from CAIR et al] Executive Director Rita Sklar told FoxNews.com Morgan’s claim the gun range was acting out of legitimate caution is a dog that doesn’t hunt.

“It’s discrimination based on religion, or, in this case, perceived religion and is a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act,” Sklar said. “It isn’t based on that person’s behavior or anything they could reliably use that could be used to bar the person from the premises.”

Sklar also said that while the ACLU chapter has not heard back yet from the DOJ, her group would be “more than happy” to proceed with legal action should a client approach them.

I can understand her viewpoint. And I can appreciate her “ends”, but I don’t think this is the right “means”. It’s a public range, open to the public. Her logic isn’t right ( and this is where you smart folks make a Logic 101 remark about de Morgan’s Rules, m’kay? ).

Magazine Capacity Limits Might Have Killed Him

A Tulsa liquor store clerk took on four masked men during an attempted robbery earlier this week, shooting and killing two and helping bring an end to a serial robbery ring.

The four assailants entered Ryan’s Liquor at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Tulsa World. One of the men, 27-year-old Brian Powell, pulled out a handgun and fired a shot upon entrance and demanded money.

But the store clerk did not comply. Instead, he pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and fired it, hitting and killing Powell and 16-year-old Kevin Dobbs.

A Tulsa man seven months shy of ending his probation for a prior larceny conviction is one of two men identified by police as being shot by a store clerk during a failed robbery attempt Tuesday night.

Police also announced the arrest of two men, 20-year-old Lakeit Thompson and 17-year-old George K. Williamson, in connection with the botched robbery attempt, as well as “other robberies.”

Thompson was being held Tuesday morning on six counts of robbery with a firearm, as well as two counts of attempted robbery, two counts of felony murder and a number of traffic complaints.

According to his arrest report, Thompson has been connected by police to eight separate robberies, the first of which happened Dec. 7. The circumstances behind each robbery were the same — multiple suspects armed with weapons entering a store and leaving with money.

Williamson was connected to three alleged robberies, according to his arrest report.

But now the Irish-born actor and star of the ultra-violent Taken trilogy has thought it wise to wade into America’s fraught gun debate.

Speaking at a press conference in Dubai for the launch of Taken 3 on Tuesday, Neeson offered an interviewer his opinion of his adopted home’s attitude to firearms.

‘There’s just too many [expletive] guns out there,’ said Neeson, who is reputed to have been paid $20 million for the new latest Taken installment.

‘Especially in America. I think the population is like, 320 million? There’s over 300 million guns. Privately owned, in America.

‘I think it’s a [expletive] disgrace. Every week now we’re picking up a newspaper and seeing, ‘Yet another few kids have been killed in schools.’

Facts Vs Feelings: Beat The Meme

While it may be the case that NICS reports are down for 2014, down a whopping “great” 0.5% that is, the 2014 numbers are still larger than 2005 and 2006 combined.

Also, the rise of concealed carry permits (CCW) issued is nearly exponential (annual growth rate now 8 times higher than in 1999 with more than 12 million current holders), and (surprise surprise!) nearly half the states allow CCW holders to avoid the NICS process. I didn’t know that! Plus the unknown but (probably also increasing) significant percentage of firearms traded between individuals. Both mitigate the value of the NICS numbers as the primary trend indicator (NICS is a background check run at a gun store prior to a firearms purchase. One check can cover the purchase of one or more firearms at that time. This also mitigates the value of NICS as an indicator.)

So no, it ain’t so.
