A Truth About Lies

The Lying Liars And The Lies They Tell, Categorized Somewhat

In An Industry of Untruth VDH writes a little essay on all the BS that rains down on us every day. VDH is always a good read.

The brand of all cultural revolutions is untruth about the past and present in order to control the future. Why we have this happening to our country is the only mystery left.

The current revolution is based on a series of lies, misrepresentations, and distortions, whose weight will soon sink it.

Viral confusion

Unfortunately few in authority have been more wrong, and yet more self-righteously wrong, than the esteemed Dr. Anthony Fauci.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, more than any other regional or national leader, is culpable for decisions that doomed thousands of elderly patients.
Then in shameful fashion, after thousands died, Cuomo claimed that either the facilities themselves or Donald Trump were responsible for the deaths.

Endemic Racial Violence?

Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and other revolutionary groups hijacked the tragic death of George Floyd. Within hours they created a mythology of rampant white police lethal attacks on innocent black victims. But that trope, too, was without a factual basis.

Iconoclasm Redux

There is no logic to statue toppling, name changing, or culture canceling other than the quest to assert power, humiliate authorities, and create crises where they do not exist in order to manufacture a faux state of emergency—in service of a political agenda.

Trial Balloon Lies

The truth is that the COVID-19 epidemic, the lockdown, and the rioting were seen by the Left, the media, and now the Democratic Party as a renewed effort in this election year to do what Robert Mueller, Ukraine, and impeachment had not—abort the presidency of Donald Trump, or make it impossible for him to be reelected.

So Trump was to be reconfigured as a racist responsible for the death of George Floyd. Then he was smeared as a Herbert Hoover who supposedly crashed the economy all on his own. And then he became a Typhoid Mary purveyor of death who sickened and killed tens of thousands of Americans at his rallies in a way millions at left-wing protests did not.

To that end, almost daily, entire fantasies were birthed, floated, crashed, and then were replaced by new hoaxes. The strategy was that while one lie might be refuted, the bigger and more numerous the lies, the more a continuous narrative could be fabricated.

Then there was the monstrous lie that Joe Biden has no cognitive disabilities.
Biden finally came out of his bunker to do some tele-fundraising and talk to a few preselected reporters. He almost immediately blasted a reporter as a “lying dog face.” In one of his next appearances, his opening statement started with “I am Joe Biden’s husband, even as the liberal media insisted “Joe” was “Jill.”
What is cruel is cynically using a cognitively challenged candidate for the purpose of winning an election and then replacing him with a far-left vice president who otherwise likely would never have been elected.
In 2020, the effort is not to ensure that a socialist not be appointed president who otherwise would not have been elected, but rather to ensure that she will be.

The brand of all cultural revolutions is untruth about the past and present in order to control the future. Why we have let this happen to our country is the only mystery left.

Boston Caves To Insanity

Good Lord, if these destructors would only spare one statue, wouldn’t it be this one?

Boston Removing Lincoln Emancipation Statue

With a unanimous vote, the Boston Art Commission voted Tuesday to get rid of the Emancipation Memorial commemorating President Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the proclamation that ended slavery in America.

The statue, first erected in 1879, is a replica of the monument in Washington, D.C., that depicts Lincoln standing with a freed slave in the process of standing up as shackles fall from his arms. The inscription at the base of the statue, which was paid for by freed slaves and dedicated by the beloved abolitionist Frederick Douglass, reads: “A race set free and a country at peace. Lincoln rests from his labors.”

During his dedication of the original statue on April 14, 1876 — 11 years after Lincoln’s assassination — Douglass delivered a powerful dedication in front of then-President Ulysses S. Grant, members of the U.S. Congress as well as justices of the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Let it be known everywhere,” he declared, “[that] we, the colored people, newly emancipated and rejoicing in our blood-bought freedom, near the close of the first century in the life of this Republic, have now and here unveiled, set apart, and dedicated a monument of enduring granite and bronze, in every line, feature, and figure of which the men of this generation may read, and those of after-coming generations may read, something of the exalted character and great works of Abraham Lincoln, the first martyr president of the United States.”

Fudging The Numbers

An Abundance Of Caution Tyranny

NJ Governor Murphy Now Padding COVID Death Numbers With “Probable” Cases, Jacking Death Totals 14.2%

New Jersey is now reporting probable deaths as part of its regular updates amid the coronavirus crisis. The report became public as Gov. Phil Murphy announced 406 additional coronavirus cases and 26 more deaths during his Thursday news conference (you can watch it here, below).

New Jersey reported 1,854 probable deaths since the outbreak began in March. Added together with confirmed deaths, it means as many as 14,872 people have died in New Jersey because of the coronavirus.

Just under a third of the probable deaths are associated with a long-term care facility, said Edward Lifshitz, medical director for the state Department of Health.

Murphy said his administration has been examining death certificates to identify residents, with “great reliability,” whose passing probably happened because of the coronavirus.

For many of these people, tests were never performed even though they had the underlying symptoms of the illness, Murphy said.

Murphy said the numbers “represent the toll this pandemic has had on our New Jersey family.”

“We report this out of nothing other than a solemn sense of duty,” he said. “For many families, we hope these determinations will provide a sense of closure.”

What a load of turnips. He’s doing this to pump the numbers to keep his reign and his “emergency powers” running as long as he can. And to grab federal money I’m sure, and to Get Trump.

King Murphy sux.

Note: The “Confirmed” death count stands at 13,018. The new “Probable” death count is 1,854. This adds 14.24% to the grim stats.

This sleight of hand nearly doubled the number of deaths in my county, taking us from a very low 67 up to 122. This is a scam.

The Three Little Hitlers Of Hypocrisy

Cuomo, Murphy, Lamont: You MUST Quarantine If You Come Here From Hotspot States

Shoe is on the other foot now, but it’s still crusted with dog poop.

NEW JERSEY – Traveling from high-infection states to New Jersey, New York and Connecticut? You “must quarantine,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo says.

Cuomo appeared with New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Ct. Gov. Ned Lamont on Wednesday in announcing “a joint travel advisory” for people coming in from states with a high infection rate.

Cuomo said those travelers “must quarantine for 14 days.”

Constitutionally, Murphy said, “were not able to put up border checks around New Jersey” and physically usher people into quarantine. But he did say the advisory was “more than a recommendation.”

It’s not clear how the measure will be enforced, but Murphy said the state Health Department will be responsible for dealing with flagrant violations of the advisory.

Murphy said he’s “asking” people from high-infection states to “do the right thing for themselves as well as their families and communities.”

What a hypocrite. Remember when NY was the COVID capital of the world, and Rhode Island said they’d quarantine drivers playing Escape From New York? He pitched a total fit, threatening lawsuits, waving the Constitution around etc. And now?

I guess we’re really not “all in this together”. No kidding. Just ask Italy.

How Much More Of This BS Are We Going To Put Up With??

Shoot the bastards already. By the hundreds. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. And first prize is a case of instant terminal lead poisoning. Too freakin’ bad.

Wisconsin Senator Beaten By Statue Toppling Protest Rioters

A Democrat state senator from Milwaukee was pummeled by a group of protesters at the Wisconsin State Capitol late Tuesday during a violent clash that included two statues being toppled, a report said.

Sen. Tim Carpenter told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he was beaten after taking a photo of some of the protesters.

“I don’t know what happened,” he told the paper. “All I did was stop and take a picture and the next thing I’m getting five-six punches, getting kicked in the head.”

A reporter from the paper posted an image of Carpenter while he kneeled by his car.

Social media posts from the scene early Wednesday indicated that police in riot gear were warning protesters to leave the area after reports that some were trying to break the windows of the capitol building.

NBC 15 reported that protesters toppled the two statues. The paper reported that one of the statues was of Col. Christian Heg, who fought and died during the Civil War on the Union side.

Rich Lowery, the editor of the National Review, tweeted, “It’s now open season on abolitionists who recruited troops for the Union army, ably led them, and died courageously on the battlefield.”

The unrest on Tuesday started after a black man was arrested at a restaurant after police said he brought a bat and a megaphone into the establishment, the report said.

So it was the restaurant’s fault of course. Because blacks are above the law no matter what. Frankly, you can’t carry a bat around outside of the ball field. That’s brandishing, which is just one tiny step less than assault with a deadly weapon. So you know he was up to no good. I don’t blame the restaurant AT ALL for having the cops get this guy out of their establishment before he created a scene and started destroying their property.

So that’s a perfect reason to have yet another protest and destroy things. Riiiight.

W. T. F. ?  How much more of this dogshit are we going to put up with? Arrest these scumbags by the thousands, and beat the living crap out of any who give you the slightest trouble. It’s time to take our nation back. It’s time to stop this insane anarchist protest / rebellion infantile tantrum.

Madison protesters tear down Capitol statues, attack state Senator from Milwaukee as fury erupts again

Fury exploded outside the Wisconsin State Capitol on Tuesday night as protesters smashed windows at the statehouse, attacked a state senator, and tore down two iconic statues — including one of an abolitionist who died trying to end slavery during the Civil War.

The unrest began earlier Tuesday following the arrest of a Black man who was arrested after bringing a megaphone and a baseball bat into a Capitol square restaurant. It followed weeks of mostly peaceful protests of the death of George Floyd, a Black man who was killed by a white police officer.

It prompted Gov. Tony Evers on Wednesday to put the Wisconsin National Guard on notice to protect state buildings, including the Capitol. During the melee late Tuesday, Democratic state Sen. Tim Carpenter was assaulted after filming the protesters.

“I don’t know what happened ... all I did was stop and take a picture ... and the next thing I’m getting five-six punches, getting kicked in the head,” Carpenter told a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter following the assault.

Protesters, chanting for the release of the man who’d been arrested earlier, also broke glass at the Tommy Thompson Center on West Washington Avenue, smashed windows and lights at the state Capitol, and set a small fire at the Dane County jail before police arrived just before 1 a.m.

The violent demonstrations followed the arrest of Devonere Johnson by Madison police officers after Johnson brought a bullhorn and baseball bat into Cooper’s Tavern, a restaurant on the Capitol square.

“Officers attempted to place him under arrest for his actions inside the restaurant,” the Madison police officers wrote in a report. “Johnson resisted arrest and struggled with officers ... Johnson was able to push past officers and escape from the squad car before being tackled as he attempted to escape.”

In Madison, statues of Wisconsin’s motto “Forward” and of Col. Hans Christian Heg were dragged away from their spots guarding the statehouse.

Heg was an anti-slavery activist who fought and died for the Union during the U.S. Civil War. His nearly 100-year-old sculpture was decapitated and thrown into a Madison lake by protesters.

The original Forward statue was first placed in front of the Wisconsin State Capitol in 1895. Protesters tore down a replica that was commissioned in the 1990s.

Forward is “an allegory of devotion and progress,” according to the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Madison Police Department said 200 to 300 protesters were within the crowd that ultimately became violent.

The group first entered a private condo building in Madison and surrounded a tow truck, forcing the owner to abandon the vehicle before smashing windows and tearing down the Capitol statues.

A molotov cocktail also was thrown into the Madison and Dane County administration building where the county jail sits.

“Truth! Justice! Freedom! Reasonably Priced Love! And a Hard-Boiled Egg!”

Seattle Occupiers Become Instant Criminal State When Gangsta Takes Over

When last we left CHAZ, the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle—which wants you to know that it is not the U.S.A.—its residents had suffered a major setback. Homeless people CHAZ invited over for dinner swiped all their food.

CHAZ is a secessionist urban micro-state with no farms or ranches (they’re vegan anyway) so it cannot feed itself.

It’s also firmly against the police. One of its demands to Seattle’s mayor is to defund the police or resign.

Power abhors a vacuum. Into the vacuum created by the absence of law enforcement in CHAZ has stepped a warlord.

It all started with graffiti. It ended with a struggle for power, not against The Man, but a man who could whip the behind of every other man around. Such is feudalism. Now CHAZ has an unaccountable force that they don’t want to call the police because they’re against police. And whatever this crew is, they’re not police. Their warlord’s name is Raz Simone, and according to CHAZ insiders he and his crew are “self-appointed, heavily armed, has indicated their intention to police the area, and has engaged in the use of force.” OceanBliss guesses Raz has assumed power because “he has all the guns.” Mao couldn’t have said it better himself. CHAZ’s Great Leap Forward is really a pretty big step backward.

Well, if any of the beta soyboys inside survive this, it might just change their outlook. Their wonderful revolution lasted less than 48 hours before the criminals took it over. Well no kidding. Obviously they learned nothing from the Occupy DC fiasco. The real world is a lot tougher than when you took over the Dean’s office back in college to protest some nonsense or other.

Biden: The Sofa King Of Stupid

Biden: Floyd Death More Important Then MLK Assassination

“Even Dr. King’s assassination did not have the worldwide impact that George Floyd’s death did,” Biden said with a mask dangling from his ear.

“Because just like television changed the civil rights movement for the better when they saw Bull Connor’s dogs ripping the clothes off of elderly black women who were trying to go to church, and fire hoses ripping the skin off of young kids,” he said.

Bull Connor was a Democrat and Commissioner of Public Safety for Birmingham, Alabama.

“That — all those folks around the country who didn’t have any black populations heard about this, but they didn’t believe it, but they saw it, it was impossible for them to close their eyes,” Biden continued.

“Well, what happened to George Floyd, now you’ve got how many people around the country? Millions of cell phones, it’s changed the way everybody’s looking at this,” he said. “Look at the millions of people marching around the world.”

I know I’ll be voting for a candidate who can’t organize a thought or express himself coherently. Tops on my list.

Yes, the speed and width of communication is ten thousand times faster than it was 52 years ago. Gosh, ya think? But the mindless knee jerk impulse is just as strong in our politicians. So is the sense of right and wrong in our society, although so many seem to deny it.

And I seem to recall that the reaction to Dr. King’s death was pretty strong across most of our society.

They Took It, Make Them Keep It

Antifa takes over 6 blocks of Seattle, sets up “Capital Hill Autonomous Zone”

Homeless people eat all their food. Radical leader admits to being a serial abuser, quits.

Such planning, such leadership. How brave, how daring. What a bunch of foolish infants.

After police vacated buildings, Antifa established what is being called the Seattle Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, and began self-governing within the six-block space, only to reportedly have homeless people steal their food supply and their leader step down and threaten to kill themself after admitting to being a “serial abuser” on Twitter.

Yesterday the establishment of the autonomous zone was reported widely on social media, with Andy Ngo writing that the mayor “is allowing a dangerous situation to fester,” and that “Antifa set up barricades to create a border. Calling for volunteers to provide armed guard.”

No food, no ability to control their space, no cops, no services. No shit.

I think the best course of action is to wall them off for a few months. After turning off the water, gas, and electricity tonight. And shutting down the cell phone towers in the area.

You Waited THIS Long??

Gun Sales Surge In NYC Suburbs As Rioting Gets Closer

Four hour wait just to get in to Long Island gun shops

“You don’t need a gun to protect yourself, just call the police” is curiously no longer something people are arguing.
In the last several days we’ve seen many people on social media say that they’ve called the police and have been told the response either wouldn’t happen or would take a long time. It seems now more than ever that Americans increasingly aren’t relying on the police to protect them and are taking things into their own hands.

Unrest across New York and America has left some feeling concerned for their safety, and prompting dozens to line up outside a Long Island gun shop Tuesday.

Fruma Tannenbaum stood in the long line outside LI Outdoorsman in Rockville Centre. Her wait for a weapon was triggered by fears of demonstrations across the country.

“I would like to protect my property in case anybody comes on and wants to loot, steal, do anything to me,” says Tannenbaum. “I want to be prepared and I want to be able to protect myself and my family.”

The fears come in response to a week of protests against the death of George Floyd in Minnesota, in which some have turned to fires, looting and clashes with police.

It was a similar scene at Coliseum Gun Traders in Uniondale, where the owner says dozens of people are waiting to buy weapons and ammo.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen people really scared,” says Andrew Chernoff. “They’re saying that they definitely want something to be able to defend themselves and they’re scared there’s going to be civil unrest. That they’re going to need to defend themselves from.”

Gong estimated his store has seen sales rise within the last week as much as 20 percent. Video taken at his store showed several mask-wearing customers patiently waiting in line to enter.

“They wait three, four hours to enter the store,” he said. During the pandemic, the store has reduced its hours, opening three times a week for about four to six hours.

The uptick in sales stems directly from the protests, he said.

Gong, who is Chinese, said most of his customers are people from minority communities who want to support his business because it’s minority-owned. They’re buying guns now out of fear of criminals, not police, he said when asked why his customers have said they want a gun now.

“Criminals, looters,” he said. “They’re not going to buy guns for cops, they’re going to buy guns for the criminals.”

Long Island gun store owners said they’ve seen spikes in sales before: Y2K, the passage of gun control laws, before and after elections. But this time is different, they said.

“This is like total new shooters,” said John Sweezey, the owner of Camp-Site Sport Shop in Huntington. “New gun owners.”

Michael Pucci, who owns Orion 7 Enterprises in Middle Island, said half the calls to his store are from women. The store specializes in historical, collectible firearms, but it also stocks some modern rifles and shotguns.

Some waiting outside Long Island gun stores on Wednesday condemned Floyd’s killing and said they support peaceful protests. It was the looters who scared them — and the prospect of widespread looting on Long Island in particular.

And the sin of it is, these frightened libs will go right back to voting Democrat once this is over. Because. They. Will. Never. Learn.

And the perhaps even bigger sin is, Long Island has been inundated with MS-13 for at least a decade. There are thousands of them there, stealing, killing, raping, beating, dealing drugs. But ... OMG those poor immigrants!! ... just look the other way.

Another Bit Of History Lost For Now

Another one of my “rabbit hole” posts, in which a small news story leads to looking up all kinds of links and uncovering some impressive stuff. Hours wasted, but insight gleaned.

Confederate monument removed from downtown Mobile overnight

image  image

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — City of Mobile Director of Communications George Talbot has confirmed to NBC 15 that the City of Mobile removed the monument of Confederate icon Admiral Raphael Semmes from its pedestal in downtown Mobile overnight.

Mayor Stimpson issued the following statement Friday Morning:

On June 4, 2020, I ordered that the statue of Admiral Raphael Semmes be moved from its location at the intersection of Government and Royal streets in downtown Mobile.
The task was completed this morning, June 5. The statue has been placed in a secure location.

To be clear: This decision is not about Raphael Semmes, it is not about a monument and it is not an attempt to rewrite history.

Moving this statue will not change the past. It is about removing a potential distraction so we may focus clearly on the future of our city. That conversation, and the mission to create One Mobile, continues today

The statue of Admiral Semmes was desecrated with graffitti just the other day, and the city immediately cleaned it up.

The Admiral Raphael Semmes Confederate Statue in downtown Mobile was vandalized early Tuesday morning, right around the time Birmingham was pulling apart its own memorial to those who had fought and lost in the American Civil War.
Down in Mobile, the statue of Semmes, who defected from the U.S. Navy after 35 years of service to fight for the Confederacy, was being cleaned vigorously by city workers.

Using industrial power washers, the workers not only washed away the red graffiti but also the green patina from the copper plates surrounding the light sandstone. Parts of the statue have now been restored to its original state as when it was first erected in June 1900.

A city of Mobile spokesperson said a suspect has been identified and any decision to remove the statue would have to be collaborative.

Acting on what must have been awareness of a continuing threat, the statue was removed to somewhere safe. Hopefully, some day when saner heads prevail (as if) this statue can come out of hiding again.

I read a post on Facebook the other day, put up by a long ago friend who grew up to be a super liberal. “Until Blacks Lives Matter, No Lives Matter”. Uh huh. Another quipped how her 7 year old daughter gets it, why can’t the adults?

Well, here’s one for all you woke-sters out there to grok. All these Confederate statues and memorials you want to destroy and erase are there to commemorate gallant men who served their country with bravery and pride. Duty called, they answered, and many paid the ultimate price. Generally, this has nothing at all to do with slavery, sexism, racism, or any of your 21st Century rose colored glasses. Nor, by long ago federal edict, are any of these men traitors or enemies. They were brothers, brothers in arms, on the wrong side of a family quarrel that claimed the lives of almost three quarters of a million Americans. And they were damn good at their jobs; these statues memorialize the best of the best.

So who was this Semmes guy? ( and the rabbit hole beckons ... )

Raphael Semmes was one of the most effective fighting sea captains in American history. Having served honorably in the US Navy for 35 years, surviving a famous shipwreck during the Mexican War (that ship itself “cursed” and famous for the only near mutiny in US Navy history, and probably the source for Herman Melville’s book Billy Budd, seeing that his cousin was on that ship at the time. That was before Semmes was aboard the USS Somers.), he joined the southern side when the war began.

. On 8 December 1846, while commanded by Lieutenant Raphael Semmes, Somers was chasing a blockade runner off Vera Cruz when she was caught in a sudden storm. Capsized by the heavy winds, she quickly sank with the loss of more than thirty of her crew

When Secession happened Semmes fought for Alabama. And he was so good at it that, over the years, the US Navy has named two destroyers in his honor.

After appointment to the Confederate Navy as a commander and a futile assignment to purchase arms in the North, Semmes was sent to New Orleans to convert the steamer Habana into the cruiser/commerce raider CSS Sumter. In June 1861, Semmes, in Sumter, outran the USS Brooklyn, breaching the Union blockade of New Orleans, and then launched a brilliant career as one of the greatest commerce raider captains in naval history.

Semmes’s command of CSS Sumter lasted only six months, but during that time he ranged wide, raiding U.S. commercial shipping in both the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean; his actions accounted for the loss of 18 merchant vessels, while always eluding pursuit by Union warships. By January 1862, Sumter required a major overhaul. Semmes’s crew surveyed the vessel while in neutral Gibraltar and determined that the repairs to her boilers were too extensive to be completed there. Semmes paid off the crew and laid up the vessel. U.S. Navy vessels maintained a vigil outside the harbor until she was disarmed and sold at auction in December 1862, eventually being renamed and converted to a blockade runner.

Semmes and several of his officers traveled to England where he was promoted to captain. He then was ordered to the Azores to take up command and oversee the coaling and outfitting with cannon of the newly-built British steamer Enrica as a sloop-of-war, which thereafter became the Confederate commerce raider CSS Alabama. Semmes sailed on Alabama from August 1862 to June 1864. His operations carried him from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico, around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope, and into the Pacific to the East Indies. During this cruise, Alabama captured 65 U.S. merchantmen and quickly destroyed the USS Hatteras, off Galveston.

CSS Sumter, a 437-ton bark-rigged screw steam cruiser, was built at Philadelphia as the merchant steamship Habana. Purchased by the Confederate Government at New Orleans in April 1861, she was converted to a cruiser and placed under the command of Raphael Semmes. Renamed Sumter, she was commissioned in early June 1861 and broke through the Federal blockade of the Mississippi river mouths late in the month.
Early in July, the pioneering Confederate Navy commerce raider captured eight U.S. flag merchant ships in waters near Cuba, then moved to the South American coast where she took another pair. Two more merchantman fell to Sumter in September and October 1861. While coaling at Martinique in mid-November, she was blockaded by the Federal sloop of war Iroquois, but was able to escape to sea and resume her activities. Sumter captured another six ships from late November into January 1862, while cruising from the western hemisphere to European waters.

So after capturing 18 ships but being blockaded in Europe, the crew managed to sneak off, get back to the Confederacy, and were assigned to the CSS Alabama.

The C.S.S ALABAMA in the course of 22 months boarded 447 ships of all nations, captured 69 Union vessels, took 2,000 prisoners, sank the Union warship HATTERAS, and engaged the U.S.S. KEARSARGE.
During that time not one prisoner was injured to accident or disease, a large feat even today.  She observed international law and the finest “laws of the sea”.  Following her battle with HATTERAS the CSS ALABAMA put all her boats in the water and rescued all except two who were killed in the action...this at night with a Union squadron less than twenty miles away.

An officer and a gentleman, and a real fighter. When the Alabama engaged the USS Kearsage off of Cherbourg France, they lost. The massive guns of the Kearsage shot the stern of the Alabama to bits, and the ship sank. The commander of the Kearsage sat and watched the crew of the Alabama drown, until some were rescued by nearby English ships. At that point he bravely captured the surviving crew in the the two lifeboats they had managed to lower. Semmes got away.

Did he sit out the war after that? Oh heck no. He somehow got himself back to Cuba, snuck into Texas, made his way all across the South, and took command of the James River squadron defending Richmond His flagship was the new ironclad CSS Virginia II. They fought until Richmond finally fell, the squadron’s ship being burnt after losing a last, desperate river battle.

And still that was not the end. The sailors came ashore and became soldiers, running another blockade on land this time, to evade Union troops and join up with Gen. Johnston in NC. Semmes and his crew did not surrender until nearly 3 weeks after the war was over.

After the destruction of the naval squadron, Semmes’s sailors were turned into an infantry unit and dubbed the “Naval Brigade.” Semmes was then placed in command; Semmes intention for the brigade was to join Lee’s army after burning their vessels. Lee’s army, however, was already cut off from Richmond, so most of Semmes’s men boarded a train and escaped to join General Joseph E. Johnston’s army in North Carolina. A few men of the Naval Brigade were able to join with Lee’s rear guard and fought at the Battle of Sailor’s Creek.

Semmes and the Naval Brigade were surrendered to Union Major General William T. Sherman with Johnston’s army at Bennett Place near Durham Station, North Carolina, on April 26, 1865, and subsequently were paroled on May 1, 1865. Semmes’s parole notes that he held commissions as both a brigadier general and rear admiral in the Confederate service when he surrendered with General Johnston’s army.

I’d say he may have been the only General Admiral in US military history. But the guy was one helluva fighter. An inspiration to generations of sailors, I’m sure.

His story ought to be a movie. He had more swash in his buckle than any Douglas Fairbanks or Lionel Barrymore movie ever made, and as many amazing escapes as in any Indiana Jones movie. Maybe throw in a few flirtatious scenes with some beauties in period costume, although I gather he was married the whole time.

So naturally, his memory has to be eliminated. Because RAYCIS.

Might As Well Just Burn It

LA Cuts $150M From Police Budget, Gives It To “Communities of Color”

Bet that cash buys a whole shitload of lap dances and bags of crack.

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced an enormous transfer of city funds at a press briefing Wednesday, with $100 million to $150 million being stripped from the Los Angeles Police Department’s budget and reallocated to “black communities and communities of color.”

Calling this an “urgent moment,” Garcetti first announced an overall transfer of $250 million from the previously proposed budget to be “reinvested” in communities of color, highlighting “jobs, education, and healing.”

L.A. Police Commission President Eileen Decker then announced that $100 million to $150 million of those cuts would come from the police department budget.

“It is time to move our rhetoric towards action to end racism in our city,” the mayor said.

And another $100M is coming from other budget cuts. Buying off the crybabies, again. Straight up pandering.

I’d put the entire fund into primary education - at the classroom level only - and truant officers, and DARE programs. Anything else is a waste.

That’ll Teach ‘Em

Every Arrested Rioter And Looter In St. Louis Released Without Charges

By Democrat DA

All 36 people arrested by St. Louis police during riots have been released without charges, according to Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt.

Schmitt said that St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner declined to charge any of the people arrested during riots between Sunday and Tuesday.

“To see that kind of level of violence and rioting that went on, police officers being shot and shot at, a retired police captain being murdered, people throwing rocks and gasoline and frozen water bottles at police officers, firefighters being assaulted and blocked from doing their job, businesses that have served the community for years being burned to the ground, it’s unfathomable that every single person arrested that night has been released,” Schmitt said. “It is stunning.”

Gosh, you’d almost think that the Dems were encouraging this kind of behavior.

It’s A Riot Out There

“If you value your life, they probably shouldn’t do that in Polk County. Because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they’re going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded, and if you try to break into their homes to steal, to set fires, I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns. So, leave the community alone.”

Damn straight Skippy.

Savagery is spreading with lightning speed across the United States, with murderous assaults on police officers and civilians and the ecstatic annihilation of businesses and symbols of the state. Welcome to a real civilization-destroying pandemic, one that makes the recent saccharine exhortations to “stay safe” and the deployment of police officers to enforce outdoor mask-wearing seem like decadent bagatelles.

This pandemic of civil violence is more widespread than anything seen during the Black Lives Matter movement of the Obama years, and it will likely have an even deadlier toll on law enforcement officers than the targeted assassinations we saw from 2014 onward. It’s worse this time because the country has absorbed another five years of academically inspired racial victimology. From Ta-Nehisi Coates to the New York Times’s 1619 project, the constant narrative about America’s endemic white supremacy and its deliberate destruction of the “black body” has been thoroughly injected into the political bloodstream.
Once the violence began, any effort to “understand” it should have stopped, since that understanding is inevitably exculpatory. The looters are not grieving over the stomach-churning arrest and death of George Floyd; they are having the time of their lives. You don’t protest or mourn a victim by stealing oxycontin, electronics, jewelry, and sneakers.

and on and on and on.

Protest BS

Another Day Of Disruption, Burning, Looting

Because the entire country is fed up with police brutality, in the instance of ONE man, so this justifies riots from sea to shining sea? I do not effing think so.

Protests continued Saturday as more demonstrations erupted in cities nationwide following the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd.

In some cities, authorities issued curfews in light of the at-times violent protests and destruction taking place.

Police and protesters clashed in Brooklyn Saturday night resulting at least 200 arrests and “countless” officers hurt and in the emergency room.

NYPD vehicles windows were broken and set on fire.

One person was arrested near the 79 Precinct with loaded .380 semi-automatic pistol.

Two women were reportedly arrested for throwing a molotov cocktail at an NYPD van that had four officers inside.

Thirty-seven patrol cars have been vandalized so far, according to reports.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms established a curfew starting Saturday at 9 p.m. following a night of disruptive and at-time violent protests.

Protests continued Saturday and police arrested demonstrators that were purposefully blocking traffic.

Security officials surrouned Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp’s house as crowds of protesters gathered around the massion. A brick was reportedly thrown at one of the police officers.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms denounced the riots and said in a Saturday press conference, “When you run it down the street with a Gucci bag, that’s not about black people dying in America. That’s about killing ourselves when we do things like that.”

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced a curfew Saturday night after 500 people were arrested and five police officers were hurt after protests turned violent.

I’ve had enough. Bring out the water cannons, the mace, the dogs, and the rubber bullets. And warm up the MRAPS with their machine guns.

It’s time to grow up, or die. And I don’t give a flaming shit which one you choose.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
