and not a gun in sight …. of course not.  guns are dangerous

In a world that doesn’t believe in gun ownership …..

Anything is possible.

I recently saw a very funny (it must be admitted) comedian doing a number on gun ownership and the hapless American loons who see attackers and would be killers around every bend.  Of course he wrote his routine based upon his own personal thinking which totally excluded, conveniently, many cases on record of lives saved because someone was armed unknown to their attackers.

So here’s today’s story without a gun. Or a weapon of any sort except in the hands of the verminous bastards who …..

Pregnant woman, 22, attacked with baseball bat and knife by masked gang after they burst into her home while she was GIVING BIRTH

· Pregnant woman, 22, was beaten with baseball bats while giving birth

· Gang of five men broke into her home in Essex and demanded money

· They attacked 22-year-old and slashed her in the face with a butcher’s knife

· She suffered a haemorrhage and was rushed to Basildon Hospital

· Young mother gave birth to a healthy baby on Tuesday despite injuries

· Police are now hunting five men, aged in the twenties, involved in attack

By Jenny Awford for MailOnline

A pregnant woman was beaten with baseball bats and slashed in the face with a butcher’s knife when a masked gang burst into her home while she was giving birth.
The 22-year-old was about to leave for hospital when five masked men smashed their way into her house in Basildon, Essex, at around 8.30pm using crowbars.
She suffered a haemorrhage and may have a fractured skull after the gang attacked her with crowbars and a knife while her two-year-old child was asleep in bed.

You don’t need me to add anything else. The whole story is below.
And it sucks.

CONTINUED

As long as I’m the subject .... that being crime ....

A few days ago a group of youngsters were riding their bikes down a London street when suddenly another group on foot ran out to attack and steal their bikes.
Sadly ,,,, in one case, one of the attackers ran out and into a rider and swung at the kid with a knife.  No provocation, no fight. He just simply struck and killed a 15year old bike rider.

Another day in London town.  Far as I know they haven’t caught anyone yet. But you can bet the penalty won’t be any big deal especially if the killer is young enough.
With all our wonderful advances and medicine and technology and communication between people, our world sucks.

Hey .... two killers now serving life ( whatever that means ) for murder .... have been granted permission to marry in prison.
Isn’t that sweet?
I wonder if they’ll be let out for a weekend honeymoon.

Before the crack of dawn

The shovel squad woke me up again. 4:42am the guy is outside my window, scrape scrape scraaaaaaape, cough cough. Because it snowed again. And it seems to snow every weekend, if not every damn day.

So I’ll spend a few minutes blogging while he works, since I’m wide awake. And freezing!

Ok good. I’ve had my cup of tea. And balanced my fluid levels. And been extra quiet because she’s such a light sleeper.

I’ve run the hot water bottle through the microwave and got it boiling hot. Because, surprise!!, the heat isn’t working in the bedroom. Since last night. Say what?? Now I have another damn project that HAS to be done.

Back to bed.

I like to kill people ….  comment from a girl of 12

A few disturbing things that might cause the old RCOB to appear.

What a world we have.  Yes, I know, down thru the ages from one generation to another the cry goes out that the current one is decadent beyond all reason, and some previous one much better in many ways.  But today, I do honestly believe we have raised what the late author Philip Wylie called , A generation of Vipers.  Not to be confused with the later sci-fi book.

I have been reading newspapers from an early age.  Not because I was smart but because I was fascinated by the printed word and how writers expressed my world at that time.  I also listened avidly to the news on the radio and later TV.  And of course, the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports on radio and the boxing matches. Especially, most especially, when Willie Pep was fighting.

Well anyway. what I am trying to say is that with all my reading and listening and watching of later TV, the kinds of crime being done and the age of the monsters committing them, was nowhere near as young as they now appear to be.

A boy or group of boys as young as nine or ten committing rape of an 8 year old would certainly have made the headlines, just by the nature of the crime and the age of the vermin involved.  And that’s at the extreme edge of criminality, the lesser tho still unacceptable would be robbery and robbery with violence, again done by a much younger group.  Crimes by teens were not unheard of.  The news-makers in that group were generally Puerto Rican and Negro gangs, depending on the state and city. Italians also in some measure were heard from in NY.

Lately it hasn’t been simply a one off article about 8 year olds or 12 year olds.
These days, more and more very young girls, and white at that, are committing violent acts at a younger age. And they are not all from poor ghetto families with no education.  There are far different influences at play today, things the young are exposed to that we never were.  Heck. Porn?
I never heard the word at the age of 10 or even at 13. And I certainly would not have seen any.  Except once when someone showed me a cartoon, a cartoon mind you, that was .... well to be truthful somewhat interesting. But I didn’t even understand what I was seeing.

So ,,,, here are some examples. And these are only recent ones.

image

Because as she wrote, I like to kill people.  Two girls involved here.

Morgan Geyser and her friend Anissa Weier were both 12 when they were charged as adults with first-degree attempted murder
The girls told cops they attacked their friend to impress Slenderman
Preliminary hearing being heard to determine whether Geyser should be tried as an adult and not a juvenile

A LOT MORE TO SEE AND READ HERE

And here in the UK from a morning paper comes another story of yoots too young to face criminal charges and will if caught, get curfew instead of having a hand cut off.

At the age of eight, they do know better. Even in my day, a more innocent time for sure, by 8 we knew right from wrong. I think the biggest difference is that in my day, we worried about punishment which we were certain would follow.

So here we have two 8 year old thugs in training who it is reported, attacked and robbed an 80 year old woman as she got off a bus, in broad daylight.  They got her purse and made off, they have not been found yet but might well be, because at that age they are sure to brag to their friends. Unfortunately though, “children” under ten can not be charged with a criminal offense, and can only be given a curfew or a child safety order.  What a joke that is.  Where’s the lesson in that nonsense?

I say break a few bones and fix them so they won’t be physically able to rob anyone anymore. Ever.  Hey …. ya gotta start em young so they learn, and their friends can take note too.

And then there is this which reminds me greatly of a French TV series I have been watching.  Same thing, thugs on mopeds and very violent ones too, as well as affiliated girl gang as violent as the guys, and maybe more so.  To me, it isn’t just a TV crime drama.  It’s based on events that happen in real life.  I mean, when most of you like myself were in our teens or 20s, were there moped gangs running wild? There weren’t any mopeds I can recall. In this case, three scum get 23 years. But that isn’t 23 each. Where’s the justice in that?

Oh ... please forgive the digression but .... speaking of justice.  Hello and good wishes American taxpayers.

Bradley Manning now known as Chelsea, has been approved for a sex change operation.  You pay, you pay.  Warms the heart to know how compassionate our system is towards traitors.  ( vomit here)

ok, here’s your pop quiz for the morning. guess the group the attacker belongs to

Whoops. I guess I had it all wrong.
I thought the idea of one law for one group and another law for another group was nowadays, passe.

Guess not, but not surprised either.

Just another good reason for going armed.

We can all guess who would have been on hand had the attacker been the wrong color.
Well, at least there won’t be any unruly protests by anti fascists and al sharpton. I guess that’s something.

Teenager who fractured 19-year-old’s skull with a single punch after victim asked him for a light in McDonald’s is SPARED prison

Caine Inyanga, 19, admitted grievous bodily harm and common assault
Punched teen after he asked for a light in McDonald’s, Middlesbrough
Adam Turner, 19, suffered fractured skull and tinnitus after attack
Inyanga given 16-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months
Also made subject of curfew, ordered to complete unpaid work and pay compensation

By Sam Matthew for MailOnline

A promising university student fractured a 19-year-old’s skull with a single punch after the victim asked him if he had a cigarette lighter in a McDonald’s restaurant, a court heard.

Caine Inyanga, 19, was spared jail after he floored Adam Turner in the violent early morning attack that left the tool maker unconscious on the ground.

Turner, also aged 19, approached Inyanga in the early hours of the morning in McDonald’s in Middlesbrough, Teesside, and asked if he had a cigarette lighter.

After receiving no response from the chemical engineering student the victim turned to Inyanga’s female companion and asked the same question.

Inyanga, who had been drinking and taking drugs, demanded Mr Turner and his friend ‘get outside now,’ said prosecutor Emma Atkinson.

The pair made it clear they did not want to fight, but he punched both of them, Teesside Crown Court heard.

does anyone believe a 4 year old can commit rape? world may be sicker than we thought.

Takes a lot these days to make me scratch my head when reading a story in the paper and say to myself, self … that can’t really be true. Nah. Too much ott.

I moved on from questioning some horror story a long time ago. Nowadays almost nothing surprises me.
I have read about groups of young punks who target very old ppl, and not satisfied with merely robbing them, the bastards take delight in beating the hell out them.
Same thing with some poor handicapped person, and like the very old, unable to offer any sort of defense. And sometimes people have died.  But I am not surprised.

Well, today I read something that did surprise me because I had never, ever heard or read of anything quite this bizarre. I don’t even know how it’s possible.

I have read about boys as young as ten, who have raped young girls, some so young they’re hardly out of babyhood.. Does not surprise me. It did when I fist read about it a few years ago, but now it’s just part of the landscape. No surprise there. And 9 isn’t any surprise either.

But FOUR YEARS OLD and a rapist?  Huh? Four?  As in, 4?

And, an 8 year old girl has, it is reported, sexually assaulted a young boy.
Paper didn’t say how young or what sort of assault specifically.  Not sure I wanna know.  But a girl?  Of 8?  Not surprised really. True, one doesn’t hear of that often, but I am still not surprised.  However ….
I find it very hard to get my head around a 4 year old rapist.
I would not have thought he had anything to rape with at that age.  I would not have even thought a four year old was capable of thinking in those terms.

Child aged FOUR investigated by police for rape: Experts blame internet porn for the 800 under-tens who have sexually assaulted other children

Shocking new figures were revealed by a Freedom of Information request
Experts say many offenders will have been the victim of abuse themselves
No legal action taken as children under ten are not criminally responsible
Disturbing revelation comes two years after PM vowed to block online porn

A four-year child was investigated by police for rape while 800 youngster under the age of ten have sexually assaulted other children in the last six years.

The shocking revelations are a terrifying insight into the child abuse crisis plaguing Britain - with experts blaming internet porn and the sexualisation of children for the rise in offences.

The figures, obtained by The Sunday Mirror, also show that the annual number of sex offenders under the age of ten has doubled in the last three years.

Child protection experts believe the majority of the youngsters will have been abuse victims themselves.

But they are also deeply concerned about the accessibility of extreme online pornography and the effect this can have on children who watch it.

Honey dew and away!

Somehow I managed to acquire a substantial shopping list. It grew while I wasn’t looking. And here I was, thinking I only had to go out to get some mustard and some winter mix windshield squirt. So on with the wellies and off to the stores.

moo

moo.

No, i ain’tn’t dead yet. A bit under the weather perhaps. Mainly I’m just being kept too busy. Wife has a bunch of days off from work again, so somehow I have no time for blogging.

We had a nasty little ice storm here. Most of it melted away, but for half a day it was like a skating rink out here.  And there was much spreading of calcite ...

I found out the hard way about a poor automotive product. I had this windshield spray over the summer called Bug Wash ... in very fine print it says “not suitable for sub-freezing conditions”. What a stupid product. Fine, maybe you don’t have to make the stuff out of antifreeze. But at least put a little alcohol or some propo in there so that it stays semi-liquid down to 10°. Nope. Who the heck remembers about changing out the windshield squirt? This stuff freezes solid at 32. Left me with a frozen reservoir and a popped tube. At least it was an easy fix when things thawed and leaked everywhere.

So, news? I haven’t really even watched any. Or spent much time online.

Alright, let’s take a quick look ... oh, sweet. HALF OF THE WEALTH OF THE ENTIRE WORLD is held by 1% of the population; the 80 richest folks have more money than the population of the poorest half of the planet combined. Gee, that’s nice.

image

Horry Clap. You know, there’s hardly any point even in “occupying” these rats and “redistributing” their wealth ... it adds up to about $400 per person, even if you can assume no distribution costs at all.

Billionaires and politicians gathering in Switzerland this week will come under pressure to tackle rising inequality after a study found that – on current trends – by next year, 1% of the world’s population will own more wealth than the other 99%.

Ahead of this week’s annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in the ski resort of Davos, the anti-poverty charity Oxfam said it would use its high-profile role at the gathering to demand urgent action to narrow the gap between rich and poor.

The charity’s research, published on Monday, shows that the share of the world’s wealth owned by the best-off 1% has increased from 44% in 2009 to 48% in 2014, while the least well-off 80% currently own just 5.5%.

Oxfam added that on current trends the richest 1% would own more than 50% of the world’s wealth by 2016.

ending the year as we started. seems nothin’ changes but the names. when u can spell them.

Apparently the year will end as it started.
Stupid and moronic and controlled by lawyers who really know better.
They just don’t give a shit.

In their own way, many of em aren’t any different than Jane Fonda supping with the enemy and having a laff.

Here’s a maddening example.

From the headlines today.

Lawyers for Boston Marathon bombing “suspect” whose name I can neither spell or pronounce, have asked a judge to delay his trial because they need more time to prepare.  Yeah, like they need to hunt for evidence that the rat bastard who is still a suspect cos even when caught red handed ur innocent till ….. which in this case is bullshit and we all know it is. Anyway, the muzzie pond scum is pleading not guilty to some 30 charges related to the bombing in April of 2013.

And while I’m on the subject.  Articles all read lawyers, as in plural.
No doubt funded by the taxpayers.  Why does the worm need more than one?
Why should he have any?

I guess the folks in Boston can console themselves that at least they won’t have to pay the freight for both killers, as happily one of the brothers died in that police shootout.

Meanwhile back at the ranch.
Americans should be thankful that with whatever problems we have, the USA (so far as anyone knows) is not also plagued by this curse, the border with Mexico aside.

One of our papers report the following.

budget-flight criminals roving Europe on ‘burglary blitzes’

A new breed of travelling criminal gang is exploiting cheap flights and visa-free travel to launch “burglary blitzes” on countries including the UK, according to senior law enforcement officials.

Highly mobile groups of criminals are dodging arrest by flying in and out of European nations on short-term operations, according to the head of the European crime agency Europol. The tactic follows the blueprint of the so-called “Pink Panther” gang, a group of Balkans-based criminals responsible for raids on high-end jewellers in London from the late 1990s.

Senior officers said that groups were increasingly working with community figures already based in Western European nations to plan break-ins and launder the profits. It warned earlier this year that small groups were travelling from Albania to commit crimes across Europe before being rotated with fresh groups to reduce the risks of being caught.

“Old-fashioned crime – burglary and robberies of jewellery stores – are now happening by highly mobile criminal groups operating all round Europe,” Rob Wainwright, the director of Europol told The Independent. “It’s very traditional crime but in the past 95 per cent of housebreakers were committed within half a mile. Now you’re having Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian gangs and others from across Europe jumping on airlines and knocking off [burglaries] and almost getting back out of the country the next day.

“We have some criminal groups we’ve identified in Europe that are operating literally in every European country over a one or two-year programme, supported by a local infrastructure normally connected with individuals from the expatriate community of that criminal group.”

Scotland Yard said earlier this month that victims of trafficking were being brought over by UK-based gang leaders for weekend crime sprees targeting designer clothes shops in central London. Plane ticket records suggested that the gangs were block-booking seats on budget flights to bring over Eastern Europeans and then sending them back again within a few days.

just another day in the world of words no longer in favor

Well, what can you say about this bit of stupidity aside from, what else might we expect from the pc left?

As for the word “daft” which I think is more Brit than American English, it’s a perfect description of anyone not quite nuts but a loon anyway. Or a bad idea. And many women are “sexy” as exemplified by super models and Hollywood leading ladies.  And why is “blonde” a word to be avoided?

And as for “naked females”, good grief.  That’s one of the natural and beautiful wonders of the world. Erm .... um .... depending on whose naked body one is lucky enuff to view.

Take a look at this.

Modern men rein in the sexist language: Analysis finds terms like sexy or blonde have disappeared from vocabulary when women are referred to

Analysis of 2.5m spoken or written words found terms almost vanished

Demeaning terms like daft and stupid seen a sharp decline in last 20 years

While terms like ‘girly girls’ describing overly feminine qualities has risen

By Mario Ledwith for the Daily Mail

Fewer men are using sexist language to describe women, according to a study of conversational habits.

The analysis of 2.5million spoken or written words found that terms like sexy and blonde have all but vanished from our vocabulary when women are referred to.

Other demeaning terms such as daft and stupid have also seen a sharp decline over the past 20 years, as has the association between females and the word naked.

Research into the UK’s conversations reveals a significant change in social attitudes over the last 20 years.

Rather than describing women by their appearance in a misogynistic manner, new terms such as ‘girly girls’ that describe overly feminine qualities have risen in popularity.

But the findings of the research jar with suggestions from equal rights groups that sexism is becoming a more prevalent issue, fuelled by the internet.

Campaigners suggest that sexist attitudes have become prevalent on social networks and that a new form of sexism is manifesting itself on Britain’s streets.

The Spoken British National Corpus 2014 study analysed 2.5million words of conversation, which it compared to similar studies from the 1990s.

That decade saw the rise of ‘lad culture’, the phenomenon that gave birth to ‘lads mags’ and was embodied by TV sitcoms such as Men Behaving Badly.

Tony McEnery, joint head of the study, said the research showed ‘negative descriptions of women have fallen away since the early 1990s’.

He told the Sunday Times: ‘Women are being described more in their own right and less in terms of their appearance.

McEnery said that the research was particularly insightful into the psyche of the nation as people struggle to hide their true thoughts when speaking.

here for unedited version

In the end .... misogyny and things sexist are for the most part, whatever feminazis of the left want them to be.
I am not saying those two things do not exist.
But I do not think they always exist in the places where the thought and speech police insist they do.

Back For More

I took a couple of days off from everything, even the blog.

We were going to do all sorts of holiday shopping yesterday, but we didn’t get to it. We were going to move a bunch of furniture around, deep clean the whole place in anticipation of hosting the annual family Christmas Eve party, the Italian thing with all the fishes. We did manage to score some frozen octopus from the Asian market Sunday, but after a nice big breakfast yesterday we felt a bit nappish. And the next thing you know it was 1 in the afternoon. So I made up some nice brined pork chops and some stuffing for lunch, and then we just lumped out and watched the entire first season of The Sopranos on TV. Immersion TV - marathon viewing sessions - this is what On Demand does best. And that ate up the rest of our day, just veggin’ out.

Sometimes you need a break. We did manage to do all the laundry though.

Right. OK, let’s see what kind of energy I can muster today. I think the kitchen ought to be the first line of attack. Egad, pots and pans, and all that stuff still has to go back under the sink from where it got pulled out for the plumber to work. And it’s warm today, so maybe I can get some more varnishing done on the woodwork. And then ... and then ... and then ...

a straight flush

Snake Me Once, And Snake Me Twice, And Snake Me Once Again ...

The plumber guy is gone now, and I have a cleanly draining sink. Yee. Ha.

Turns out I wasn’t doing anything wrong with my power snake auger yesterday. I just wasn’t doing it enough.

Plumber shows up this morning, brings his own powered drain snake. Runs it down, no clog. “Looks like a grease build up.” Ok fine. Puts everything together again, runs the water ... and it’s not draining. So he does it again. Nope. So he does it again. And then again. And that was enough. “Sometimes you have to just keep doing it.”

I see. I could have saved a chunk of money by just persevering.  So between the two of us, the sixth time was the charm. Yikes.

There’s a snarky remark to be made here about my drain cleaning efforts “not auguring well” for the foreseeable future, but I’ll let it slide this time. And another one about his drain snake being bigger. And several other “double intenders”.

Meanwhile, I’ve got 3 days worth of dishes to get clean.

And a new expensive bottle of bio-clean greasy pipe cleaner to use weekly from now on. Hey, it couldn’t hurt. Money well spent. I hope.

... and the first load in the dishwasher is draining ... and not a drop of water came up in the sink. We. Are. Good. To. Go.

Know When To Say When

Actually, I said $%^*!!##$@@@)~~!!#$%!

I surrender. I can’t unclog the drain. Time to call a plumber.

Damnation.

I even drove all the way to effin’ Flemington to get one of those 25’ auger things that goes on a power drill. I’ve been at this shite for hours. I could’ve sworn I ran the thing in a good 16 feet, back and forth, time after time, forward and reverse, which is much further than needed to hit the main drain line. I think. God knows. Everything else here is built ASAP (as stupid as possible) so I’m sure the plumbing is a total ... um ... Abyssinian Rig down under the floors.

Damnation.

I think I’ll pour myself a nice rum & coke & rum & rum.

fuggit.

I’m Bailing, RedHead Four Play

Seriously, I am bailing. Bailing out the kitchen sink. Got some kind of clog in the drain. Thought at first it was the garbage grinder, but the blockage is further down. Took apart the P-trap, got out a coat hanger, went at it. Dug it in all the way, about 2 feet. Went in several times too. Nothing. Put it all back together ... still clogged. Tried the old boiling water thing. Pot of water so big I could have done pasta for 8. Nope. Still clogged. Ran the dishwasher, in hopes that the hot water under pump pressure would blow it out. Nope. Just gave me a sink full of hot dirty water.

Umpteen trips back and forth with a plastic bucket, and I sort of have things figured out. The tub upstairs drains. The toilet upstairs flushes. The sink upstairs drains. The washing machine downstairs, on the other side of the kitchen, drains. The kitchen sink doesn’t drain. Which implies that the clog is under the kitchen floor, before it hits the main house drain under the hallway. So the clog is between 2 and 12 feet away from the P-trap.

So now what? Take a ride to Home Depot tomorrow morning, get one of those 25 foot auger snakes for $25. Fart around with that for a bit, hope it works. I really don’t want to have to shell out the cash for Roto-Guy to make a house call.

So, distracted by all this fun, which also kept me from even cooking dinner until almost 9, I made a terrible mistake. Carrying a bucket of dirty water up to the toilet, I glanced in at the TV. “Hey, it’s that big Red from that Dome show!”. Wrongo. “No” she says, “it’s that big Red from that funny gay show.” And it was! Maybe I should turn in my spotter’s card. And just bail.

So I dumped the bucket (didn’t kick it) and took a break and watched the new Adventures of Laura for a few minutes. It’s Ok. I give it more chance that that new The Librarians thing we tried to watch last night, which has the Double Death Whammy working against it - it starts Rebecca Romjin, who is so so beautiful but a total show killer. Time after time. And it’s a remake of that goofy shit Warehouse 13 only with better looking people. Oh come on. The premier episode featured the Artifact - called that by name no less - of King Arthur’s crown. And Excalibur was the Librarian’s sort-of magical dog-object-buddy. Until it stabbed him. A little. Gak. Loser. 7 episodes and then it’s into the toilet. The unclogged toilet. But at least I only confused the redhead (Lindy Booth) on that show with Fred for a second. Amy Acker lives on Person of Interest these days, but she’ll always be Fred from Angel to me. Even with a red rinse.

an interesting read?  I hope so.

This was one hell of a sad day for this area.

No surprise of course as it was only a matter of time, money and greased palms.
Developers almost always win.

This was once owned by Winchester College who sold the farm to developers.

I snapped a couple of quick photos last month but wish I had been up and about and made the effort to snap pix when all was green or when the last crop was in bloom.

As I understand things, and having already seen some of the magnificent trees turned into a giant cone shaped pile of wood chips, construction begins soon as some signs are already up.  Our roads will be a mess for awhile I imagine. I also imagine that this place will lose a lot in beauty and lifestyle.

This was part of the Green Belt.  It’s an island nation.
Once paved over …… that’ll be all she wrote.

“Save Barton Farm Group” closes down

Message from the Chairman

On 31st May, 2014, the “Save Barton Farm Group” was wound up.

For fifteen years the Group had campaigned energetically against the building of 2,000 homes and associated buildings and infrastructure on the green fields that provided one of the important green ‘lungs’ of the ancient city of Winchester. In granting planning consent for this development the Secretary of State, aided by the local authority, demolished the expressed hopes and wishes of thousands of citizens and put an end for ever to this particularly valued part of our green and pleasant land.

That decision, having been made, leaves our Group without its fundamental purpose. Many of our supporters and activists will continue to be involved in campaigning to ensure that the building over Barton Farm will be as inoffensive as possible but there are a number of other groups and organisations that are leading the way in this and involvement with these is how our supporters can, and will, continue to contribute.

In making this announcement, we want to pay particular tribute to the widely admired leadership of our previous Chairman, Gavin Blackman, who devoted so much time, effort and wisdom to leading our campaign. Likewise our former Secretary, Mrs Chris Slattery, worked tirelessly for the campaign and represented us skilfully and persuasively at many of the meetings, Inquiries and Public Hearings. We owe them a real debt of gratitude.

So, “Save Barton Farm Group” is shutting up shop. Accordingly this website is no longer active. We are not taking it down immediately. Some of its content will remain for a while as an archive of our past activities, notices, information and events, since these may be of interest for a while. It will not, however, be a ‘live’ or maintained website from now on.

In announcing this closing down, may I thank my former Committee colleagues for their support and also the hundreds, even thousands, of you who have been our Supporters for so many years.Thank you and goodbye !
Robert Howland
(Chairman, SBFG)

Lots of old issues at link.  Or simply Google Barton Farm.

I’m signing off depressed.

http://www.savebartonfarm.org/

H/T Christopher who got me moving on this subject after months with my head in the sand.
I knew about the issues, the meetings and the letters written to the editor of the local paper, and knew all along the fight would not be won.

In the last day or two on a totally unrelated subject subject, Christopher mentioned a guy I forgot about, but whose records I used to play when I was a DJ.

But there was one particular recording that suddenly came to mind while I was deleting some old Barton Farm photos and holding back tears. Well, not really that far gone but honestly depressed. This place is only down the road from us by less than a mile.

Now here’s a problem I have never seen before and due to that damn problem, I can not post or somehow embed the song itself. Which is awesome. Beautifully done. I don’t understand it, the link to copy and or embed simply jitters, jumps up and down but no link.

So here are the words.

There won’t be no Country Music, There won’t be no Rock n Roll

(C.W. McCall, Bill Fries, Chip Davis)

Well, it’s only gonna be about an hour, friend
‘Til they dam your favorite river
So you can water-ski just one more reservior
And them supersonic ships are gonna take you
‘Cross a sea of pavement
To one more faceless brickyard on the shore

Yeah, it’s only gonna be about an hour or so
‘Til they rip off all your mountains, boy
And that one last tired old eagle bites the sand
And all of that high-and-mighty scenery’s
Gonna be leveled to the ground, boy
By a bunch a’ them mindless strip mines on the land

[Chorus]
So listen well, my brothers
When you hear the night wind sigh
And you see the wild goose flying
Through the gray, polluted sky
There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

Well, it’s only gonna take about a minute or so
‘Til the junkyards fill the prairies, boy
And them smokin’ yellow grass fires start to burn
And the warnings on them beer cans
Gonna be buried in them landfills
No deposit, no sad songs, and no returns

Yeah, it’s only gonna take about a minute or so
‘Til the factories block the sun out
You gonna have to turn your lights on just to see
And them lights are gonna be neon, sayin’
“Fly Our Jets To Paradise”
And the whole damn world is gonna be made of styrene

[Chorus]
So listen well, my brothers
When you hear the night wind sigh
And you see the wild goose flying
Through the gray, polluted sky
There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

Yeah, it’s only gonna be about a second, boy
‘Til they take away all’a this country
And they’ll tell you not to listen to this here song
And that far-off sound of freedom’s
Gonna be an echo from the past
And the final tune is gonna be sad and long

And it’s only gonna be about an eye-blink, boy
‘Til they pull out the wool to blind us
So we just can’t read all the messages on the wall
But the only words that matter
Oughta be scribbled all over them billboards
In big old black and bloody letters, ten feet tall

[Chorus]

THERE WON’T BE NO COUNTRY MUSIC
THERE WON’T BE NO ROCK ‘N’ ROLL
‘CAUSE WHEN THEY TAKE AWAY OUR COUNTRY
THEY’LL TAKE AWAY OUR SOUL

There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

There won’t be no country music
There won’t be no rock ‘n’ roll
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul
‘Cause when they take away our country
They’ll take away our soul

FIFY? [ Drew ]

Not having any memory of CW McCalll, I was amazed to find that he sounds quite like Butthead trying to sing.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
