good example, guns and the law usa - uk

OK, I just now caught this but since it happened in the USA, you may have seen it already.

My reason for posting it is cos I am actually a mite confused about the science, if it is science, of shooting and ballistics.  I don’t know much about guns and bullets and the really tech side that Drew has posted about in the recent past.  I read that stuff with interest however, because being so new to me, it’s all very fascinating.

Now here is what I do not understand about this.

How do you shoot someone 5 times in neck and face with a 38 cal. hand gun, and not kill the bastard?  Heck, that’s not very good gun control I wouldn’t think.

Well anyway, kudos for the lady who defended her kids and home against this vermin with a record.  Betcha after this her gun will be of larger caliber and she may want to spend lots of time at a range.  She and husband have to worry about this guy being released at some point in time, and next time if there is one, he may be armed also.  That’s a scary thought but it must be one rolling around in their heads.

So here’s our story from the USA.

Mother shoots home intruder five times in face and neck after he cornered her in attic with her twins, 9

Unidentified woman fired all six rounds, missing only once

Suspect Paul Ali Slater was found bleeding heavily in nearby driveway after crashing his car

By Daily Mail Reporter

A would-be burglar was looking to cash in, but instead found himself in a world of pain when a Georgia mother who refused to be victimized shot him multiple times in the face and neck.

The Loganville woman, who was not identified, was in the home with her 9-year-old twins on Friday afternoon when someone began ringing the doorbell.

Thinking it was just a door-to-door salesperson, she didn’t answer.

The burglar, whom police identified as Paul Ali Slater, did a room-by-room search of the home, and when he reached the attic, she was ready.

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told WSBTV: ‘The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver.’

She reportedly fired all six rounds, missing only once. The other shots hit Slater about the face and neck.

Sheriff Chapman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: ‘The guy’s face down, crying. The woman told him to stay down or she’d shoot again.’

Slater did eventually get up and managed to return to his vehicle that was parked outside the home, but his injuries left him unable to drive, and it wasn’t long before he crashed into a wooded area.

He was found by sheriff’s deputies, bleeding heavily in a driveway on the block.

Sheriff Chapman told the paper that he was pleading with his deputies, saying: ‘I’m dying. Help me.’

Pretty good, huh?  But soooooo uncivilized.

Now then, here’s how things like that play out over here.  Where things are more civilized.

£100 fine?  That’s about $160 in our coinage.  That oughtta show him.

Thief who drove van at farmer let off with £100 fine: But victim forced to defend himself with shotgun suffers police ordeal lasting months

Bill Edwards, 21 was accused of attempted murder after catching thief

Mr Edwards has attacked the ‘pathetic punishment’ handed to David Taylor

Mr Edwards arrested after firing shotgun at van driven by Taylor towards his mother

By Chris Greenwood

A farmer accused of attempted murder after catching an intruder red-handed spoke of his outrage last night after the thief walked free with a £100 fine.

image

Unemployed criminal David Taylor was captured when Bill Edwards confronted him on his isolated woodland property.

Mr Edwards, 21, fired his shotgun at a van driven by Taylor as the thief accelerated towards his mother, Louisa Smith, 50.

Taylor was caught after a high-speed chase but it was the farmer who endured a horrendous ordeal at the hands of police who arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder.

Last night Mr Edwards labelled the experience ‘four months of hell’ and attacked the ‘pathetic’ punishment handed out to the intruder.

The former public schoolboy said: ‘It’s completely changed my view of the police. They treated me like a criminal. The police have acted like bullies who have turned someone who was very supportive of their work into someone who wants nothing more to do with them. They can’t protect the public but don’t allow the public to protect themselves.’

Speaking about the sentence, he added: ‘It is hard to find words to describe how ridiculous the sentence is. I’m absolutely disgusted.

‘We have had four months of being treated like criminals only to see the real criminal let off with a measly fine which will be paid for by the taxpayer since he is on state benefits.’

Mr Edwards and his mother feared for their lives during the confrontation on their land on the outskirts of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, last August. It reignited the controversy over how householders can protect their families after a Leicestershire couple were told they would not be prosecuted for shooting at burglars.

Mr Edwards said his family has lost thousands of pounds through theft and damage caused in a number of raids on their land.

They caught Taylor and an accomplice loading stolen metal cables into the back of his Ford Transit after spotting that outbuildings had been tampered with. The thieves jumped into the van and drove it towards the pair as they desperately dialled 999 for help.

Mr Edwards fired his shotgun, which was loaded with lightweight rabbit shot, several times, hitting the van’s windscreen and bodywork. No one was hurt. Police eventually caught Taylor when Mr Edwards gave chase and gave a running commentary on his mobile phone. But the crook was only charged with metal theft.

Meanwhile Mr Edwards and his mother were arrested, held overnight in cells and left on bail for four months. Mrs Smith was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent.

It is believed police have a recording of the 999 call in which the shots can be heard as Mrs Smith shouts: ‘He is trying to kill us, shoot his tyres.’

But even now the farmer has not had his shotgun and other weapons returned to him which he uses to control pests on his land and as a hobby. Scarborough magistrate Mike Dineen fined Taylor £100 and ordered him to pay £34.99 for damage caused to the farm gate and padlock when he rammed through it to escape.

Taylor left court grinning and sneered ‘lucky you’ at Mr Edwards after finding out the attempted murder allegation had been dropped.

Moments earlier his solicitor Ian Brickman said the thief ‘is in many ways the victim in this’ and was left so ‘traumatised’ he cannot work.

Outside court, Bill’s father Garry Edwards, 67, said the case has been a ‘complete nightmare’. He said: ‘They were victims of a deadly attack and yet some of the police officers treated them as criminals.

only takes one to decide for many, what community standards are

Every once in awhile I find something so silly, or so stupid and pc, I ask the same old question.
Can anything get any dumber?  And usually the answer is yes.

So it is with a story I found and it originates not here in the UK, but in my own home country. The USA!

Can things get much dumber ?

Take a look.  See how “one parent” can decide for ALL just what community standards are.  And one idiot who thinks that’s a “win-win” for the community.

bat

Back to the 50s: US parent forces school to tone down production of All Shook Up because it’s too ‘suggestive’

· School is forced to change lyrics to 1957 classic and adapt the musical’s plot

· Show is only allowed to go ahead after school got copyright to edit the song

By David Gardner In Los Angeles

It has been 55 years since Elvis Presley’s shaking hips were deemed too hot for American TV and he was shown only from the waist up.
Now producers of a high school musical have been forced to change the lyrics of one of his most famous songs to prevent the production from being shut down.

School administrators in Utah cancelled the musical after a parent complained that All Shook Up was too racy.

In the 1957 classic, the king of rock and roll warbles about a sweetheart whose ‘lips are like a volcano that’s hot’. The song continues: ‘I’m proud to say she’s my buttercup. I’m in love. I’m all shook up.’

The show was allowed to go ahead only after administrators at Herriman High School received permission yesterday from the copyright owners of All Shook Up to edit the song. It is not yet clear what the changes are.

They are also making some plot changes to the musical, which brings a modern twist to Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. The story revolves around a female castaway who dresses as a boy to evade detection in ancient southern Europe.

The cross-dressing connotations were also found offensive by the parent who complained, who has not been named.
Jill Fishback, whose daughter worked on the production, said: ‘I’m at a loss. They’re singing Elvis songs.

‘A girl dresses up as a boy and kisses a boy. It’s not promoting homosexuality. It was supposed to be a farce.’

A spokesman for the Jordan School District said: ‘The show will go on. We wanted to make some changes to keep the play within community values. It’s a win-win for all of us.’

In August, a parents’ group got the same school district to cancel Dead Man Walking, a play about a Catholic nun who counsels a death-row inmate in Louisiana.
‘Dead Man Walking’ was scratched even though administrators said much of its profanity had been stripped from the script.

‘We want our drama to be a great experience not just for our students but the theater-goers.

‘We don’t want to offend anyone,’ bat Riesgraf said Wednesday.

Is it only one place in Utah that’s stupid?  Or is this disease spreading to neighboring states as well?

btw, I wasn’t aware til now that anyone actually heard ALL the words to any of his songs.  Or most rock songs come to think of it.

must we feel something like empathy for convicted killers? Sir Trevor thinks so.

I am not posting much of this article, interesting as it is.
I would recommend you read all of it because of all I have left out.

Perhaps I zeroed in on the wrong thing, after all, Sir Trevor is not a bad man that I am aware of.  I know who he is in a very vague way, but really not a lot about him except that I am pretty sure he is somewhat left of center.  And me being who I am of course, I have this bad habit of shutting down in a manner of speaking, with regard to lots of things liberals say.  Which means I could miss some things I should catch.  Sorry, but liberals just annoy me.

Okay so, Sir Trevor is in the USA doing a documentary.

Out of all that’s written in the article, I just couldn’t help but locking on to this.

but you’d be lacking any humanity and empathy if you did not feel for someone preparing to be put to death by the state.

You can see what I mean. Right?  So here. Take a small look and then catch the link.

A liberal Brit researching American penal and death penalty issues for a documentary speaks.
And oh by the way, he want us to feel something for a guy awaiting death, who when high on drugs attacked and killed a young woman and her 4 yr old daughter.

He cut the throat the mother and partially decapitated her four-year-old daughter.

However, Sir Trevor McDonald says;

I am no amateur psychologist, but it struck me that their early lives were not ideal.
image

I didn’t particularly like any of them but it was impossible to cut yourself off entirely from a sense of sadness at the circumstances which brought them to prison. I was horrified by what they had done, but you’d be lacking any humanity and empathy if you did not feel for someone preparing to be put to death by the state.

I have never accepted the philosophy of state killing and my mind has not been changed by this experience. But I do understand why that system is in place for people like Fredrick Baer, and why American voters continue to support it.

When I emerged from Baer’s cell after hearing him speak in such detail, there was absolute silence. Usually there is professional banter common to all TV jobs: bad jokes and teasing and chat, but after that there was just a hush.

I was deeply affected by the depth of evil described in the interview and, like everybody on the crew, I found myself in need of a stiff drink.

read and see more here

Well that’s me okay. Ole lack of empathy and humanity peiper. Damn right I feel nothing for these guys.  Why should I?  Seems to me there have been far too many people feeling warm and fuzzy about criminals like these.  Why should I feel anything but loathing for a guy who did what Frederick Baer did.

It’s only because of the folks on the left that states have not rid themselves of guys like this sooner.  Why someone who is guilty can spend years and years delaying justice.  And even then justice isn’t really being served. It folks like Sir Trevor, who through their interventions and lobbying have brought an end to the DP throughout Europe and the UK.  A lot of it had to do with the second war.  You have to keep that in mind.  America did not go through the same experience, and so it was quite natural I suppose for Europe to decide that there had been enough killing.  That’s the way it was explained to me. By the time a good number of Brits woke up, it was too late.  The death penalty was dead here too.

crinimal mastermind on the run. have you seen this man? don’t stop and say hello.

On-the-run!

CAUTION .... DO NOT APPROACH

image

Look at those shifty eyes.  That is one scary dude.  Hate to meet up with him in the isle of some supermarket I tell ya.  Oh sure. You don’t think he’s that frightening. Do ya?  Thought not.  That’s cos you don’t yet know the CRIME this ultimate mastermind committed.  Sure, you can laff at me cos you’re safely out of the way.  But I live here.. What if I run into him.  Before daylight.

image

Fact is, that man is wanted by the authorities and that isn’t a gag.

Okay ... so I fiddled with the opening headline a little bit.  Doesn’t make him any less wanted.

Fact remains the guy is a crinimal and must be stopped before he breathes on some innocent bystander.

Anyway, crimes of this nature MUST be stamped out least others take courage and follow in same smelly path.

Guy is a menace to society.  Maybe the world.

Certainly to Vampires.

£2 million garlic smuggler: On-the-run

grocer is among worst tax cheats named and shamed by Customs

Murugasan Natarajan dodged paying tax on garlic imported from China

By Martin Robinson and Vanessa Allen

A grocer who went on the run after he was caught smuggling garlic was named as one of Britain’s worst tax criminals yesterday.

Murugasan Natarajan, 57, dodged paying £2million in import taxes by smuggling tons of fresh garlic from China.

He was one of 32 criminals named and pictured in a ‘rogues gallery’ of the worst tax cheats of 2012, compiled by HM Revenue and Customs.

Natarajan, of Southall, West London, imported huge containers of fresh garlic without paying duty by telling Customs officials that the product was fresh ginger, which is untaxed.

But inspectors noticed that the containers used for the shipments were too cold for ginger, yet the perfect temperature for garlic.

When the containers were opened, hundreds of boxes of fresh garlic were found inside.

Natarajan ran a grocery business, Perfect Imports And Exports, and planned to sell the garlic to wholesalers. He was arrested and released on bail, but went on the run and has not been traced. He was tried in his absence last month and given a six-year jail sentence.

Firm in my opinions

Channel flipping again ... caught the very end of the $10 sword and sorcery epic Kull The Conqueror with Kevin Sorbo (Hercules) and Tia Carrerre (Wayne’s World) ... and there she was, Zareta, the ice princess or whoever, being rescued from the evil fire demon.  Karina Lombard.

image

Damn. 20 years since I’ve first seen her on film (the hottest almost softcore film ever, The Wide Sargasso Sea) and she still stops me dead in my tracks. Horry clap, the woman’s a walking heart attack. What a face. What eyes. And then she speaks, in that deep thick throaty voice and the richest and most unplaceable foreign accent. And it just kills me, every time. Swoon, thud. OMFG. And sure, she’s matured since then ... haven’t we all ... and isn’t 22 by a long shot. I don’t care. She’s got the kind of magic that doesn’t fade. Pity she doesn’t get more mainline work.

image

Guess at least some of my opinions are pretty inflexible.

justice brit style. no. lack of more like. but then, heck. he only killed her.

Just another one of those things that make the blood boil.

RCOB!

Why?  Why is this piece of walking filth out free?  Jeesh, he gets 8 yrs but is out in 4.  What he do? Oh nothing much by today’s deplorable standards.

He only strangled he wife to death.  Hey, he had a good excuse.  He was angry or he might not have done it.  She cheated on him and wanted a divorce and so he complied by giving her a permanent one.  Ah, the fact that he was playing house also is okay.  It’s just that damn it, wives are not supposed to do that.
Only guys have a license to cheat.  And he didn’t simply strangle her.  She had 43 separate injuries, 18 to her face.
But Brit justice deems is okay to let the slime free after 4 years.  Well, I guess that’s all a life is worth in this country.  Not certain it’s any different in the states either.  But this is an outrage to end em all.  AND .... he moves right back into the same house he murdered her in.  Sensitive fellow what.

Take a look.  Brit justice in, inaction.

Millionaire banker who killed wife in a jealous rage is back in the home where he strangled her with their two children after just three years in jail

Neil Ellerbeck, has moved into the smart suburban house where he took his wife Kate’s life after she asked for a divorce

By Stephen Wright

Just four years after he killed his wife in a jealous rage, a millionaire banker is out of jail and back living with their two children at the family home where he strangled her.

Neil Ellerbeck, 49, has moved into the smart suburban house where he took his wife Kate’s life after she asked for a divorce.

Mr Ellerbeck, who earned £170,000 as HSBC’s global chief of investment, feared losing his two children, £650,000 home and £1.3million fortune in the break-up.

He lashed out after bugging her phone calls and reading her texts, discovering she had been having an affair with her son’s tennis coach as well as having ‘close friendships’ with a childhood sweetheart and a chef at the Ritz.

She received 43 separate injuries in the attack in November 2008, around 18 of which were on her face.

After his furious assault, Ellerbeck collected their ten-year-old daughter from a school entrance exam.

He later insisted his 46-year-old wife had been alive when he left her.

During his Old Bailey trial three years ago, it emerged he had been having an affair himself during the troubled 14-year marriage.

He was acquitted of murder but jailed for eight years for manslaughter after a jury accepted he did not intend to kill his wife.

Time spent in custody awaiting trial and his good behaviour means he served a total of four years behind bars.

Before the killing, Mr Ellerbeck, described by police as a jealous and possessive man, was having a long relationship with a former colleague. But then he spied on his wife and found out she had been having an affair with tennis coach Pat McAdam.

Mr McAdam, 50, last night hit out at the legal system that has allowed Mr Ellerbeck to begin rebuilding his life after just four years behind bars, adding: ‘He destroyed Kate’s life, left two children without a mother and caused untold anguish to Kate’s sister, family and myself.

‘Yet when I asked victim liaison questions about his release, I kept being told the probation service was trying to make his life as “normal as possible” now that he is out.

I had hoped he would not be allowed back to the home where Kate died.’ Mr McAdam has been campaigning to change the law to make it harder for people sentenced for serious crimes to be released early.

He said: ‘Because he’s served half of his sentence, he has no need to wear an electronic tag, or report regularly to police, all apparently because of this desire to let him lead a normal life.

‘I will never be able to lead a normal life again and nor will other people involved in this case who knew and loved Kate.’

I have read someplace today, that some fellow cheated on some tax(?) or maybe it was embezzlement, and got 6 years.  I didn’t pay too much attention to that story cos I was so taken up with this one. But it seems like killing someone if angry plus being a millionaire, becomes an out.  That just isn’t right.  Why should anyone who has so badly affected an entire family by the taking of a life as he did, be allowed to go free?  Sorry gang. I just do not understand.

I have no problem with criminals who are only killing each other, as Ben Siegel once famously said.

Interesting times indeed.  I was researching something early today and ran across someone who was charged with and prosecuted for, Grand Theft.
The year was 1910 the theft was a bicycle.

comrades in labour party will tell ppl how and what to eat. and it’s all for the kiddies.

This is another one of those, I must share before going on to other things.

I have no doubt that things loaded with sugars and salts etc. can be overdone. Perhaps not even healthy.  But shouldn’t what you feed your children for breakfast be up to you?  As I think about this, and not being a fan of either product or even a parent, I also wonder if the govt. or in this case a political party (Labour), should be able to TELL people what to consume.  Or tell them what to feed their kids. OK, knee jerk reaction is of course hell no.  Then what about parents who are clueless or maybe don’t believe the warnings and continue to give kids this product?  Are they bad parents?

Any way we view this, I can not think but this is a very bad idea.  What’s next if they get this through?  There are loads of things out there that aren’t good for us. They may be okay but taken to extreme ... not so good.  Forget things like tobacco and drugs.  I am only referring to ..... foods.

Apparently some talking heads here have discovered that it is not only America that is way overweight (we are???)but there is a serious weight problem here in the UK, which is having a bed affect not only on the health of the public and especially, the kiddies.  Oh no.  It’s also costing the economy and the National Health Service millions, to treat weight related illness.  Something they say, must be done.

And so enter politicians and govt. and legislation and the outlawing or at least the modification of some favorite foods.  I guess parents just are not listening to the folks who know all things.

Make high levels of fat, sugar and salt in children’s food ILLEGAL, say Labour

By James Chapman

Labour is to propose new legal limits on levels of fat, sugar and salt in children’s food.

Shadow health secretary Andy Burnham will say urgent action must be considered to tackle spiralling levels of obesity.

One option to be considered in the party’s public policy health review is to outlaw products with more than a maximum level of fat, sugar and salt which are targeted at children to try to reverse the trend.

image

A consultation paper identifies a number of breakfast cereals containing more than 30 per cent sugar according to research by Which?, including Kellogg’s Frosties, with 37.0g of sugar per 100g and Tesco Choco Snaps with 36.1g per 100g.

The latest research by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), shows that in the UK, 26.6 per cent of girls and 22.7 per cent of boys are now considered ‘obese’.

Meanwhile, the National Child Measurement Programme last month reported that one-third of children in England are either overweight or obese by the time they leave primary school. Overweight children are at a greater risk of developing diabetes and cancer.

It is clear that the current voluntary approach is not working.

Mr Burnham said: ‘The findings of the OECD should shock us out of our complacency.  We need to open our minds to new approaches in tackling child obesity.

‘Labour wants to lead this debate. That is why we are asking the public and experts if new limits for sugar, fats and salts would be the right approach. Like all parents, I have bought products like cereals and fruit drinks, marketed as more healthy, that contained higher sugar levels than expected. I don’t think that any parent would be comfortable with their child eating something that is 40 per cent sugar.

Mr Burnham has begun consulting with the public and experts on the issue, and is considering proposing a 30 per cent cap on sugar in cereals.

Professor Gabriel Scally, former regional director of public health at the Department of Health, said: ‘The continued rise in childhood obesity is an urgent call to action and must not be ignored.

‘I applaud the Labour Party for tackling the issue of the foodstuffs filling our children with the empty calories that fuel obesity. Helping parents protect and promote the future health of our children is exactly what we need to be doing.’

Paul Wheeler, of Kellogg’s, said: ‘Frosties has been on sale for more than 60 years and by now we think people know there’s sugar in them - we’re not hiding it.

‘The problem with ideas like this is they want an easy, silver bullet solution to what is a very difficult issue. It all boils down to the fact we believe parents, and not the government, should choose what their kids eat.’

A Department of Health spokesman said: ‘By working with industry through the Responsibility Deal we have helped to reduce fat, sugar and salt in foods.

‘There is now less salt in the food we buy, companies are cutting and capping calories and artificial trans fats are being widely taken out of food.’

The spokesman added: ‘We are working to reduce the amount of salt in food further, cut saturated fat consumption and we are exploring how to promote healthier food choices more widely. We also want more businesses making pledges so we get bigger results.’

source

Sure, cut the salt and the sugar so we can put it back in at home.

Over time I have noticed the odd food here and there doesn’t taste as good as I remember it.  Hadn’t occurred to me till recently, as I started looking at the labels more, that ingredients are being reduced, along with the weights and measures. Not the price though.

If I Were The Devil

A Paul Harvey broadcast from 1965.

And damn, ain’t the Devil come to town since then?

Follow the link and listen in.

Paul Harvey once had daily broadcasts on 1200 channels across America, and his essays printed in 300 newspapers. He was on the radio giving the news several times a day, and later had his own 6 broadcast a week show The Rest of the Story that ran for 33 years from 1976 until his death in 2009.
It doesn’t seem unfair to say that he was another Voice of America, like Uncle Walter. Except Harvey wasn’t a pinko.

And ... minor epiphany for me ... I think this is why the Right can’t speak to the Left so that they’ll hear. The Devil already done got them, long time gone.

Topical TV

Print Your Own Guns

Surfing channels tonight looking for something new to watch ... flipped onto a new episode of CSI-NY just after it began. In the scene, the detectives find the body, shot through the heart. A few feet away are computer cables but no PC, and a dirty table with a clean spot in the middle, surrounded by piles of what looks like dust or dirt. “And what was here?” asks one CSI, “his printer?”

And with that, I had the whole mystery solved. 1 minute into the show.

They were doing the print-a-gun thing. Very topical. I’m doing the old eye-roll expecting more idiotic “TV science” like the episode they did a while back with the homing bullet that managed to reverse it’s own flight path while being fired and still inside the gun barrel.

But, actually, they went about it mostly right. I don’t think you could use this technology to print an assembled firearm. You could print the parts, and then put them all together. And I have real doubts that the device can print a coil spring that actually works as a coil spring. But I’ll allow Hollywood some slack this time, because they had the grace to do the shooting part in a way I’d agree was feasible.

The guy used his computer and a special metal powder 3-D printer to build himself a .38 Special revolver. Ok, it’s a S&W model 642, but that’s not important. What’s important is that it’s a .38 Special, which is one of the lowest pressure “modern” cartridges out there. And no ammo company sells ammo loaded right up to maximum pressures (duh, lawyers!). And since it was a revolver, there’s that gap between the front of the cylinder and the back end of the barrel, which is usually about 0.0035”. That lets some of the powder gases (and some of the bullet too!) squirt sideways out of the gun when it gets fired (which is why the police shows are always checking the suspect’s hands for “GSR"). If the gap is bigger, more gas escapes, and bullet velocity drops. But velocity drops because pressure is lower. So we’ve got a low pressure cartridge being fired in an even lower pressure environment.

And the producers tried to create a mystery by showing us bullets with no “ballistics” on them - no rifling engraving. In other words, the pistol was a smoothbore. A tube. And if it wasn’t exactly the world’s tightest fit, bullet wobbling down the barrel on firing and all that, then once again there would be far less pressure. Would it be accurate? Hell no. But it was only used at a distance of 2 feet, so that doesn’t matter. The bullet would tumble too, “keyhole” is the shooter’s term, if it was loose in the barrel or not stabilized by the rifling. But that happens at 25 feet or so. At 2 feet you’d never know. But now we’re talking even lower pressures.

And they went out of their way to have the lab guys discussing how the guy who had built the gun had then oven cured it for some time. I’m pretty sure that’s what you’d have to do even with a laser sintered metal form as depicted in this episode; it’s just powdered steel and epoxy dust, so you’d have to heat cure the glue over time. The laser just gets it hot enough to barely stick together while printing.

So the bad guy gets the gun, loads a round, and shoots the fellow who designed it and built it.  Then he gets another round, and shoots the lawyer his ex-wife used in their divorce. And while he kills that guy too, the gun blows up in his hand and injures him with shrapnel. The CSIs track him down through hospital records (so much for patient privacy, huh?) and bust him. Case closed.

But I will give the producers a respectful tip of the old hat, because for once they’ve done a pretty decent job with something concerning firearms. They found a scenario where this just might work. What the guy built on the show was little more than a zip gun, but zip guns can still be lethal. I still think that a printed gun will still blow up on the first firing no matter what, but you might get a poorly designed one with big cylinder gaps and over sized bore to last two, maybe three or four shots. Let’s go for two as being at least plausible. And that’s what CSI-NY did.

Now, should we all wet our pants in panic and demand pre-emptive laws about such a thing? Hell no. Do you have any idea what a 3D printer costs? Cha-ching bay-bay. Mucho. No criminal will ever bother; it’s much easier to steal a real gun or to buy one on the street. And it’s no crime for any US citizen to build their own firearms at home. Seriously. It’s legal. Just don’t even think about trying to sell one of them. That’s when 10 truckloads of laws, permits, MIB, licenses, regulations, zoning, and black helicopters come into play.

And they’re always going to blow up on the first or second shot, no matter what. So don’t bother. Now, if you happened to have a CNC milling machine in your basement and some 4150 bar steel and a gas forge and some case hardening powder

UK: Some Wanker Got Wonka’d

Norfolk Police Stymied Over Oompa-Loompa Attack

A man in Norfolk, England, was reportedly attacked last week by a pair of Oompa Loompas.

According to WTVR.com, the 28-year-old man was assaulted in a city center by four individuals—two of whom had been dressed up as the orange-skinned characters made famous in Roald Dahl’s children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

The man reportedly “suffered cuts to his face, nose and lip, as well as two black eyes” after being confronted by the group last Thursday.

The Guardian reports that the two Oompa Loompas, believed to be men, were accompanied by a woman and a man “not wearing fancy dress.”

Police say that the costumed men had “painted orange faces and dyed green hair.” They were said to have also been wearing “hooped tops.”

“One of the males in the group...pushed the victim to the floor before he got up,” a spokesman for Norfolk police said, according to Sky News. “He was then hit on the head, fell to the floor and hit again.”

Police are currently searching for the perpetrators.

Norfolk Police are appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman said: ‘Perhaps they were taking part in a Christmas event. They may have been at a fancy dress party.

‘It is possible it is captured on CCTV but we are still looking for images.’

It is not the first time that Oompa-Loompas have had a brush with the law.

A man dressed as one of the characters was allegedly involved in a brawl during a fancy dress evening at a Welcome Family holiday park in Dawlish, Devon, in May 2009.

Other characters involved included a Spiderman and even Tinky Winky - the largest of the Teletubbies - best known for his size and red handbag.

Benji The Racist

Big Talk. Now Make It Happen

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israel’s prime minister says thousands of Africans who have infiltrated into Israel will be sent back home.

Benjamin Netanyahu declared Wednesday that Israel has halted the flow of African migrants into Israel over the past seven months. He spoke while visiting the fence Israel built on border with Egypt to keep migrants out.

He said he will soon begin “repatriating the tens of thousands of infiltrators in Israel to their countries of origin.”

About 60,000 Africans have entered Israel in recent years, some seeking asylum and others looking for work.

Sigal Rozen, whose group assists migrants, says it’s unlikely Israel can repatriate them, since many come from conflict zones or countries that have no ties with Israel.

Hoo boy, this one’s going to explode on the news the moment they start to load up the first boat. Hey Benji, play it smart and make sure the cameras see you sending home some Irish and Portuguese too. Not that it will make any difference. Certain groups get a pass, no matter what.

OTOH, if some of those African asylum seekers are provably Falashas, then he’s in a world of trouble within Israel itself. Africa is a huge place, and I have no idea which part these infiltrators came from.

... and Drew ties another post to the Aksum/Queen of Sheba post! Learning stuff is dangerous; you start noticing all sorts of things you’d never been aware of before! LOL

This may be news over here, but the problem is not at all new in Israel. There seems to be a pretty huge groundswell of public opinion that these people should get the boot. On the other hand, there are some who want them to stay; part of the core concept of Israel is that it is a refuge, and it looks like the vast majority of these ‘infiltrators’ are from Eritrea. Eritrea, as you recall, is a tiny bit of a country on the lower Red Sea, which broke off from Ethiopia about 20 years ago. It’s very much an Islamic nation, and it’s also a hellhole with one of the worst human rights ratings of any country on earth. The same thing goes for the newly independent South Sudan. Israeli Interior Minister Eli Yishai, among many others, has been speaking out about this problem for several years now. Jump over to Haaretz or the JPost and you can read hundreds of news articles on the topic.

Border control fans in the USA will find the next bit quite interesting: Once Israel got the border fence properly built, not one single infiltrator was able to get in. Not one.

12/24/12: Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday signaled he was ready to begin repatriating African migrants, which he termed the “second stage” in the effort to clear Israel of illegal infiltrators.

“We have succeeded in blocking the entry of infiltrators from Africa to Israel,” Netanyahu said at the start of a discussion he convened on the issue. “After having faced the threat of the entry of hundreds of thousands, this month, not one infiltrator entered Israel’s cities.”

The prime minister said that after workers complete construction of the the security fence being built along Israel’s southern border next month, Israel will start working to send migrants already in Israel back to their home countries. “Now we are moving on to the second stage, that of repatriating the infiltrators who are already here.”

On the third hand, this could be a lot of political posturing. There is a significant right-wing faction in Israel that could need a bit of pandering to for the upcoming elections. And that bunch has already held “Banish the darkness” rallies.

Calling it a move to “banish the darkness,” right-wing MKs Michael Ben-Ari and Arieh Eldad held a Hanukka candle-lighting ceremony in south Tel Aviv on Monday to issue a call to expel all African migrants from Israel.
...
Ben-Ari’s parliamentary aide and right-wing activist Itamar Ben-Gvir said, “We came to expel the darkness!” but added that the message of the rally was not racist, as they accept Ethiopian Jews.

He clarified that the “darkness” refers to the poverty and suffering among residents of south Tel Aviv and other neighborhoods with high populations of African migrants, and not to people of color.

broad of nose, big thick lips, yes sir yes ma’am one of those

The front page headline that greets us …. and not for the first time.

image

Bad enough this country seems unable to flip the international bird at those who insist these vermin have rights.

There does not seem to be any lynch mobs out for blood either.  And there should be.  In many respects, western cultures have become a bit too civilized for their own good.  At the same time, the criminal has it appears, become less human like, more aggressive and more brutal.

Recently, a woman was surprised by burglars who overpowered her , tied her up and poured petrol over her.  They ransacked the house and told her she’d be set alight.  Somehow, she managed to reach a phone and dialed 999, with her tongue after they left. She is damn lucky they left her only frightened. It could have been worse.

There can not be anything too much scarier than being accused of a crime one is innocent of.  So yes, if someone is accused of a crime, and especially a sexual assault against a child, then the authorities must make damn sure they have the evidence, either by the victim and or DNA.

None of us would like being in a position of being accused of something we did not do.  So there is indeed a good reason for having a darn good defense lawyer.  BUT.

That is not the case here.  Example after example of those clearly guilty, but because of the “Rights Industry” they not only remain here, they do so with benefits from the folks who pay the taxes.  And worse yet, as this example shows, they are out on a bail and, hmmm.

Not much doing today. Bored. Oh I know, how about having sex of some kind with a four year old.  Sickening, but it’s happened.  And ALL in the name of … “rights.” When is this travesty going to end?

Here, take a look .

Nearly 4,000 foreign murderers, rapists and other criminals are roaming the streets, free to commit new crimes.

The Government wants to deport them but admits that many cannot be kicked out because of their human rights.

A Parliamentary answer reveals that 3,980 foreign criminals who should have been sent back to their country of origin are ‘living in the community’.

The figures do not even include the handful of terrorist suspects such as Abu Qatada whom the Government is seeking to extradite.

by Tim Shipman

Officials say thousands use the Human Rights Act, which guarantees the ‘right to family life’, or fears about violence in the countries they left as a way of dodging deportation.

Around 800 of the foreign criminals have been at large in Britain for more than five years.

The revelations last night prompted calls for the Government to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights so that the foreign offenders can be sent home.

Ministers admitted last year that a string of murders and sex attacks have been committed by foreign nationals who should already have been kicked out.
Foreign criminals on immigration bail have committed three murders, three kidnappings and 14 sexual offences, including rape.

Official figures show that there have also been arrests in relation to 27 other ‘violent crimes’ and 64 thefts.

Home Office Minister Mark Harper used a Parliamentary written answer to release the most recent figures, recorded at the end of September.

He said: ‘There are 3,980 foreign nationals in the UK subject to deportation action living in the community.

We continue to pursue removal in all these cases.

‘The principal barriers to removal are non-compliance on the part of individuals which means we have insufficient evidence of nationality and identity to obtain a travel document, ongoing legal challenges and the situations in countries of return.’

Home Secretary Theresa May has issued new guidance to judges saying Section 8 of the Human Rights Act, which guarantees the right to family life, should not override serious criminality in deportation cases.

But critics say that is not enough to solve the problem. Tory MP Priti Patel, who asked the Parliamentary question that led to the publication of the figures, called for the abolition of the Human Rights Act.

She said: ‘Lax immigration and border controls inherited from the previous Labour government have left this mess and the current Government must take all steps necessary, including abolishing the Human Rights Act, to get these people removed from Britain.

‘The public deserve to have a robust immigration system in place to keep them safe instead of laws and rules designed to help foreigners remain in Britain when they should have no right to be here.

‘Hard-pressed taxpayers will be disgusted to learn that they are footing the legal fees and living costs associated with this number of foreigners overstaying their welcome.’

Sir Andrew Green, chairman of MigrationWatch UK, said: ‘This is an extraordinary number. Offenders and their lawyers are clearly playing the legal system.
‘The case for pulling out of the 60-year-old ECHR gets stronger by the day. The Government is trying to give better guidance to the courts but that is most unlikely to have the necessary impact.
‘The only long-term solution is to pull out of the ECHR completely and write our own human rights law.’

And in a somewhat related story:

llegal immigrants injured five staff during a riot at a detention centre. About 40 detainees were involved in the incident at Morton Hall immigration removal centre in Swinderby, Lincolnshire, on December 30. One detainee was taken to hospital. Up to 50 detainees took part in a protest on Christmas Day, in which no one was hurt.

The ONLY way to control this problem, is the use of deadly force.
Oh wait, can’t do that.  Need the permission of the euro-weenies, who will not approve. Hey wait again, just whose country is this anyway?
Oh yeah. I forgot.  Brits gave it away to Brussels and the euro-weenie human rights court.  But wait yet again.. What humans?  Where? There aren’t any.

Green Porkulus Grows Fangs

Fiskers Fiasco Costing Delaware Taxpayers

Gee, who woulda thunk one of Lord Obaxango’s Green Initiative payoff rackets stimulus projects would ever go bust?

Delaware taxpayers appear to be getting soaked twice under a deal in which the Democratic governor loaned $21.5 million to a hybrid electric carmaker to set up shop in the state. The company has yet to produce a car in Delaware, and taxpayers are footing the electric bill for the idle plant.

The deal was enthusiastically announced in 2009 by Gov. Jack Markell and Vice President Biden—formerly Delaware’s senior senator—as a way to bring as many as 2,500 green jobs to the state. But California-based Fisker Automotive Inc. has since suffered a series of setbacks that have compounded its shaky financial situation.

“It has not worked out the way he had envisioned,” Markell spokeswoman Cathy Rossi acknowledged Monday in a statement to FoxNews.com. “We didn’t know and couldn’t have known about the underlying technical and financial problems.”

Delaware reportedly has paid at least $400,000 in utility bills since about April, when Fisker halted operations and laid off dozens of workers at the 142-acre, Wilmington-area facility. Markell staffers told The News Journal the payments are part of the grant deal and necessary to at least keep Fisker’s small-scale operation on life support.

Fisker opened for business in 2007, and its early problems were largely related to such technical issues as steering and emissions.

However, in February the U.S. Energy Department stopped disbursements on Fisker’s $529 million loan because the company purportedly failed to meet production and sales goals on its electric plug-in sedan, the Karma.

The Kar-ma? Oy, what a goldmine for one liners that one is. “Hey, I hear that Fiskers new hybrid only drives in circles! Yup, what goes around, comes around”.

“This is never a good roll for the government—corporate welfare,” said Paul Chesser, an associate fellow at the conservative-leaning National Legal and Policy Center. “Let the market put up the money, not the taxpayer.”

Chesser also points out the similarities of California-based solar company Solyndra going bankrupt after receiving nearly $530 million in federal loan money from the Obama administration.

“There’s a trend of companies with no track record—or in this case failure—being worthy of government investment,” he said.

No, really? And it gets better: the Karma ran on batteries built by A123 battery company. You know, the one that Oxama dumped a few hundred million into, only to have it go belly up a short while later. And is now owned by the damned Chinese. It almost ... like this whole thing was planned to fail from the get-go. Like, it’s karma or something.
