Worldwide Shakeup

Pakistan dissolves cabinet, downsizes top government

Tens of thousands hit the streets in Yemen, another thugocratic country.

Hundreds of thousands protest in Cairo demanding a new government.

Opposition leader in Uganda threatens to go all Egyptian on yo ass if elections seem rigged.

other thoughts on the situation:

All Arab leaders seek to justify their power, usually either by relying on Islamic law or by using anti-Israel and anti-Western ideology as a pretext to force unity against the outside world and confer political legitimacy. Thus the king of Saudi Arabia calls himself “the defender of Islam’s two holy cities,” while the King of Jordan, on whom Israel dubiously conferred the status of “the guardian of Al-Aqsa,” uses this title to claim legitimacy and to repulse the Muslim Brotherhood, which threatens him. The king of Morocco terms himself one leg of the holy triad of “Allah, homeland, king.”

And secular leaders like Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, the Assads in Syria, Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Muammar Gadhafi in Libya, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in Tunisia, Abdelaziz Bouteflika in Algeria or Ali Abdullah Saleh in Yemen, none of whom were genuinely elected, rely on the tradition of “revolution” - that is, the forcible seizure of power - or on hatred of Israel to extract a semblance of support from the people for their warped regimes, which would never stand the test of free elections.

Added to all this are the peace agreements that Egypt and Jordan forged with Israel and the American umbrella that shelters all these illegitimate regimes. Both factors increase hatred of the regime among the masses, who, nourished by Islam, are readily disposed to accept the promises of blood, sweat and tears spouted by preachers who have waited in the wings for their moment of opportunity.

U.S. President George W. Bush was correct to view democratization as the antidote to all these ailments. But President Barack Obama - like Jimmy Carter before him, who supported the shah of Iran and called him an “island of stability,” then turned his back on him and threw him away like a squeezed lemon - erred when he did not have a word to say about democracy to Mubarak, Saleh, Ben Ali and their colleagues. Obama even pledged support for the Arab world in a speech delivered in corrupt Cairo, which was perched atop a volcano about to blow, then hastened to abandon the regimes the moment the flames erupted. His secretary of state behaved the same way.

And here was me, thinking that entire nations were too big to throw under the bus. Guess not. Jimmah II, in spades.

I want to hold onto the thin reed of hope that this sudden avalanche of uprisings is a huge international movement for freedom and a worldwide call for honest government. It’s a thin hope, but if it’s true, and it’s a universal flash mob movement, how come there aren’t millions protesting in Chicago?

This is just so wrong

China Trying To Bid On US Defense Contracts

Are you nuckin futz? Hey, I know, let’s outsource our missile defense technology to Russia! Geez Louis, just how dumb do they think we are? Oh wait. Nevermind, I forgot for a millisecond who is in the White House. Um, keep your fingers crossed then.

The maker of China’s new stealth fighter jet [ plans stolen from US by spies within the company ] has teamed up with a tiny, unprofitable California company to try to launch bids for U.S. defense contracts, possibly including one to supply Chinese helicopters to replace the aging Marine One fleet used by the president, according to people involved in the partnership.

Any Chinese bids for this or another contract under discussion would be certain to meet intense political resistance and would appear to have very little chance of success given mounting U.S. concern about China’s military power and long-term strategic goals, and the often-prohibitive opposition in the past to Chinese attempts to enter other strategic U.S. sectors, such as energy and telecommunications.

However, the fact that state-run China Aviation Industry Corp., known as AVIC, is even considering bids for these contracts, which industry insiders expect to be awarded in the next two to three years, reflects the rapid development and lofty ambitions of China’s aerospace industry.

AVIC has been in talks for more than a year with California-based U.S. Aerospace Inc. about offering the AC-313—China’s largest domestically produced helicopter—as the next generation of Marine One, the people involved in the partnership say.

I don’t even want to use Chinese drywall screws. They’re crap. Everything that comes from China is crap. Oh, it starts out as quality stuff at an amazing price. But as soon as they get a serious toehold in whatever niche they’re invading ... as soon as they have a reliable customer base and the old line companies start moving out of that product line ... then the sneaky bastards start cutting corners, sneaking in garbage ingredients, and all semblance of quality control goes right down the toilet. This happens every time, with every product they make.

And now they want a piece of our defense contracts? When they’re right at the top of the list of potential enemies? How’s that for the audacity of hope? Horry clap!

Hey China: FOAD.  Not. One. Dollar. Not. Ever.

From the Weather Channel -

“and now, your local on the 8s”

“Currently, in your area it is 1 degrees”

Aiy yai yai!

yeah, but somewhere it’s bright and sunny and the beaches are full of pretty girls catching some rays. Argentina maybe? Not here, that’s for sure. Nor Australia, where the cyclone finished what the floods started. Maybe Fiji? Nope. Ah ha, found it. The place you want to be today is Niue in the Cook Islands, where it’s been between 68 (20) at night and 84(29) in the afternoon for the past several days. Niue is an island about 1000 miles east of Fiji and about 300 miles south of American Somoa, and is home to the University of the South Pacific, one of only two regional universities in the world. Missy under the fold here must be one of their international students, taking a little time off to enjoy the weather native style.

update to Top Gear story re. Mexico. Mexican student in UK has lawyers, they want to sue. figures.

UPDATE

Posted yesterday .....

Top Gear’s slur on Mexicans (and their cars) as ‘lazy, feckless and flatulent’

We’re not like that, insists ambassador after Top Gear’s slur on Mexicans (and their cars) as ‘lazy, feckless and flatulent’

Sir ... sorry to wake you up but, some of you are like that. Where the hell do you suppose the stereotype came from?
We once had a Mexican fellow doing our lawn when we lived in Riverside,Ca. Been doing it for a few years, there were odd problems but nothing to be upset about. Well, one day he didn’t show up at all. Couldn’t understand why so I called him.  Oh he says in that kind of slow and lazy manner, “I forgot”.
But when he was working he did the job and wasn’t lazy about that.

So, some beaner comes to the UK ... she’s offended ... and her lawyers want a Brit show taken off the air. Was a glorious time in the past when nobody would even think of that and if they did they would be sent packing.

Well folks, some ppl didn’t let any grass (no pun) grow under their feet.  The BBC is being sued cos of the comments made, one student studying jewelery design here, (she had to come the the UK for that?) is insulted as of course is the Mexican Ambassador. Everyone is insulted AND ...
of course stupid idiot white politicians (well most are) have jumped on the bandwagon castigating the BBC for allowing this awful program to say naughty things about Mexico.  Some members of parliament want the BBC to say sorry for racist comments. Jeesh.  Damn it. Mexico is like a screen door on a submarine and has been for years.  I once had my car searched by Mexican border control and the guard who searched my car wanted a “tip” for his trouble.  That’s how things work in that place I guess.

The Deputy Prime Minister is due to visit Mexico and I suppose an apology has to be given even if nobody is sorry, cos those folks in Mexico have plenty of time to run riot and make life a tad difficult should he go there without an apology first.

As for the law suit, I think she’s trying for a deep pocket pay out.  She probably never even saw the show. No matter, I hope she walks in front of a bus.

Mexican takes legal action against Top Gear after Hammond calls her nation ‘lazy, feckless and flatulent’

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 5:16 PM on 3rd February 2011

Lawyers claim it could cost BBC £1m
A Mexican has instructed lawyers to bring a test case against Top Gear after her countrymen were branded ‘lazy, feckless and flatulent’ on the hit show.

Iris de la Torre, a jewellery design student in London, is bringing the claim under a new equality law. Her lawyers claim it could cost the BBC £1million in damages.

They have demanded the hit BBC1 motoring show is taken off the air and an investigation made into the comments.

MPs have also now demanded that the BBC apologises over the ‘ignorant, derogatory and racist remarks’.  In a Commons motion, a cross-party group of six MPs said the comments were ‘unacceptable and untimely’.

They said: ‘This level of ignorance is far below anything expected from anyone in the public eye and illustrates a serious lack of judgment by the programme-makers.’

The group wants the BBC to apologise as a ‘matter of urgency’ before Nick Clegg visits Mexico this month in case the row upsets diplomatic relations.

On Sunday night’s show, Richard Hammond was discussing a Mexican sports car and suggested that vehicles reflect the national characteristics of the country they are from.

He added: ‘Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat.’

This is the car Top Gear was talking about btw.

jailed rapist who targets white girls, claims ill treatment in jail. says rights not observed.

Just looking at these animals makes me sick. What’s sicker still is why they are being given a platform instead of being dead.

How come this fella who I can’t refer to as what many of you will, oh hell. This is as good an example of nigger as there is. Anyway, how is it that there aren’t any race charges against this scum. Oh right. That only works the other way.

‘It makes me sick to think that this evil man came over specifically to rape and assault white girls.

‘He wanted to hurt us because we were white. While he has shattered my life, he has the dream life he came here for - a comfy bed, a TV to watch whenever he likes and hot food three times a day.

‘Where is the justice in that?’

There’s another question not asked in the article. Just askin mind you.
What the sam hill was a white girl doing with this filth?  Did she somehow believe she was being invited to a church service? I’m not saying any woman deserves to be raped.  Not even if she stupidly leads a creep on. And you know some women do that. But I find it hard to understand the attraction she might have had.

Be sure to see the link for another bizarre side story on the most violent and dangerous prisoner in England whose name happens to be, unfortunately, Charles Bronson. He thinks his “rights” aren’t being seen to properly.  Maddening.

‘They’re bullying us’: Rapist who targeted white girls whines from jail cell about losing PlayStation

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 3:48 PM on 3rd February 2011

image

A rapist who deliberately targeted white women has complained that prisoners are being ‘horribly treated’ by having PlayStations and DVD players confiscated.

Illegal immigrant Amos Moobeng, who was jailed for nine years in 2009 after being found guilty of raping a teenager he had lured her back to his flat in Exeter, said he was ‘horrified’ at the recent crackdown.

Black South African Moobeng, now 37, said bosses at the 646 prisoner-capacity HMP Dartmoor in Devon were ‘bullying’ convicts by removing privileges.

He said: ‘There is something rather alarming going on here at HMP Dartmoor. I will call it Operation Dis-enhancement - a massive and ruthless campaign to take away every prisoners enhanced status and make us all standard or basic.

‘Whether this is a cost-cutting exercise or simply because the screws cannot stomach seeing us with DVDs, PlayStations, and wearing our own clothes - now banned on visits, incidentally - is something only they know.’

Moobeng, who raped an 18-year-old after luring her and a friend back to his home in 2007, said he was hauled before the prison governor and asked to justify his status as an ‘enhanced prisoner’.

Prisoners on ‘enhanced’ status - handed out by the Incentives and Earned Privilege Scheme (IEP) - get access to certain items they own such as PlayStations and DVDs in their cells.

The rapist, in a letter published in prisoner’s magazine Inside Time this week, added: ‘It all started one afternoon when we returned from work and found a slip tucked under every door instructing us to appear before the governor and explain why we should not lose our Enhanced status.

‘The onus of proof used to be on staff as to why they would downgrade a prisoner from Enhanced to Standard or Basic, but now it is up to us to prove why we should remain on Enhanced.

JUST SOMETHING ELSE TO BE ANGRY ABOUT. REALLY ANGRY!

I’m well aware not all Americans will feel this way.

I do not speak for BMEWS.
I can only speak for myself.

Can people, or maybe the question is, should people voice out loud what they are thinking? Especially when very angry.

I have this bad habit. My mouth follows my thoughts and there’s usually not a thing to be done about it.

I often scan the papers first for things that stand out, or maybe just annoy me. It isn’t that I want to be annoyed or angry.  But the news is the news and I don’t make it up.

I generally see red and confess sometimes it may be unreasoning red.
When organizations of foreign birth operate in the USA, using Americans of course (Americans in name anyway) then I see more then red.

It’s an organization with roots right here in the UK and it’s amnesty intl., and they certainly are that. International.  My hatred doesn’t know any boundaries where they and those like them are concerned.  Look, I’m an old fart these days and there isn’t anything I can personally do about them. I run outta breath just tying my shoe laces.  But I confess, I am entirely consumed by hatred most of you can not possibly imagine.  Think the worst and you still won’t have it all.

Sometimes I think, what if someone were already old enough, ex military, and what if they were very ill. What if they were already facing the great void due to say, cancer. What might they have to lose by taking out heads of organizations like the aclu and amnasty?  If their days are numbered anyway and there’s no hope of relief from pain. You’d have the perfect Killing Machine!  Why not take a page from the good book of Mossad, and take out America’s enemies?

Target specific leadership types and somehow, someway, find the people who donate large sums to them, and taking them out too.  Even if would be assassins were caught, what would they have to lose?  It seems to me it would be win-win. If you’re dying anyway, what more could a court do?  Your remaining few months in jail and probably on meds the whole time? Woo-hoo.  The only regret I’d feel were it me, would be failure if caught before the good and necessary deeds were done.

Until America stops playing patty cake and holding hands with our enemies, we’re as doomed as I think the Brits are with their, we must under ALL circumstances be fair and liberal in outlook. That’s bullshit and it’s their undoing as it will be ours.

I have read how nice and comfy is the treatment of that faggot mo!#3rf$&*3r who passed secret docs to Wikileaks. Bad enough that the USA thinks it must make nice to foreigners and assure them that our prisoner is being well cared for. Like it’s their fuckin business to begin with. Well … these em-effers think it’s their business, and they would most assuredly be on my hit parade list if I had the training, the weapons and the know how.  Oh btw, the hate I mentioned is not reserved for amnesty intl. alone.  It extends to those with the same agenda.

Here. Take a look at what got me going.  Perhaps those of you with cooler heads
and less excitable of manner, those who are not, like myself, closer to Sonny Corleone then Mother Teresa, maybe you have a more clear headed solution then I am capable of.

Bradley Manning is UK citizen and needs protection, government told

Amnesty International asks government to intervene on behalf of soldier suspected of having passed US secrets to WikiLeaks

The British government is under pressure to take up the case of Bradley Manning, the soldier being held in a maximum security military prison in Virginia on suspicion of having passed a massive trove of US state secrets to WikiLeaks, on the grounds that he is a UK citizen.

Amnesty International called on the government to intervene on Manning’s behalf and demand that the conditions of his detention, which the organisation calls “harsh and punitive”, are in line with international standards.

Amnesty’s UK director, Kate Allen, said: “His Welsh parentage means the UK government should demand his ‘maximum custody’ status does not impair his ability to defend himself, and we would also like to see Foreign Office officials visiting him just as they would any other British person detained overseas and potentially facing trial on very serious charges.”

Clive Stafford Smith, director of Reprieve, which provides legal assistance to those facing capital punishment and secret imprisonment, likened the conditions under which Manning is held to those in Guantánamo Bay.

“The government took a principled stance on Guantánamo cases even for British residents, let alone citizens, so you would expect it to take the same stance with Manning.”
Manning is a UK citizen by descent from his Welsh mother, Susan. Government databases on births, deaths and marriages show she was born Susan Fox in Haverfordwest in 1953.

She married a then US serviceman, Brian Manning, stationed at a US base near the city, and they had a daughter, Casey, in the same year. Bradley was born in Oklahoma in 1987.

Born in the US, he is a US citizen. But under the British Nationality Act of 1981, anyone born outside the UK after 1 January 1983 who has a mother who is a UK citizen by birth is British by descent.

“Nationality is like an elastic band: it stretches to one generation born outside the UK to a British parent. And that makes Bradley Manning British,” said Alison Harvey, head of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association in London.

So far, however, Manning’s British status has not impinged itself upon the UK authorities. The British embassy in Washington said it had not received any requests to visit Manning in jail. “It hasn’t crossed our path yet,” an official said.

The issue of the soldier’s nationality has been bubbling furiously on Twitter in recent days and has been taken up by the UK branch of the Bradley Manning supporters network.

He has been held in the brig of Quantico marine base in Virginia since last July, having been arrested in Iraq, where he was stationed as a US army intelligence analyst two months previously.
He is alleged to have been the source of several WikiLeaks exposés of US state secrets, including the massive trove of cables released in November.

SOURCE IS LEFT WING GUARDIAN

So now the shits are trying to claim the USA has no jurisdiction?  Well screw them. But you must surely understand after reading this why I want them ALL,
Graveyard Dead! Every last one.

a note about my source. this article was originally in the Telegraph, but hunt as I tried, I could find no link and so had to use the Guardian.

not good idea to read about muzzie scum on a day with a toothache. makes one doubly nuts!

I have this miserable toothache, should have made an appointment with my dentist days ago. But no, when it stopped hurting I let wishful thinking take over, and so called late today. Have to wait till Monday morning now. Jerk!

Anyway, bunch of things really rankled, no. Really wound me up last couple of days.  Seems the more I read, the angrier I get.  I was born into the wrong era. I should have been born into a time when there weren’t any computers or even TV.  And been out of the aggro world long before 9/11 and political correctness and crap like this.  Some critics have said this couple should be ashamed.  Not possible because they are members of the ROP, and those bastards do not have the same human feeling and foibles the rest of civilization have.  Some of it anyway.  How can I possibly not be angry at a slight like this?

Take a look.

Fury after two Muslim councillors refuse to take part in standing ovation for Marine who won George Cross

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Two Muslim councillors were under fire today after they refused to take part in a standing ovation to honour a Marine who won the George Cross.
Salma Yaqoob and Mohammed Ishtiaq remained seated during a ceremony for Lance Corporal Matthew Croucher.
The 26-year-old was awarded the George Cross after he flung himself onto a Taliban hand grenade to save his comrades during an ambush in Helmand Province in 2008.
He was serving with 40 Commando when his patrol came under fire but he miraculously survived because his backpack took the force of the blast.
L/Cpl Croucher became the most highly-decorated serving Marine when he received the George Cross for ‘outstanding bravery not involving direct contact with the enemy’.
More than 100 councillors at Birmingham City Council attended a meeting on Tuesday night to honour L/Cpl Croucher, who was there as guest of honour.

But when the councillors stood to give him a standing ovation Cllrs Yaqoob and Ishtiaq, who are both members of the Respect party, refused to get to their feet.
Fellow councillors today reacted with fury at the snub and branded the pair ‘shameful’.
Conservative Cllr John Lines said: ‘They should be ashamed of themselves.

‘This was not the time or place to stage an anti-war protest - this man risked his life for his comrades.
‘I was happy to give this hero a standing ovation and I have invited him to be guest of honour when we open new houses for ex-military personnel later this year.’
He said: ‘Obviously not everyone is behind the work we are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan and they have their point of view.
‘On the other hand, it was nice to be shown respect for the job we do by the overwhelming majority of councillors.’

Yaqoob and Ishtiaq yesterday remained defiant about their decision to snub L/Cpl Croucher, branding the gesture ‘false patriotism’.
Cllr Yaqoob, Respect Party leader and head of Birmingham’s Stop the War Coalition, said: ‘It was more about the politicians feeling good about themselves for sending our young men to fight for reasons that have proved to be false.  ‘I have every sympathy for our soldiers on a human level, they are only doing their jobs.  ‘But this ovation was just a big public show, it was false patriotism.  ‘Wrapping coffins in the flag and awarding medals does not make it right.’
Cllr Ishtiaq added: ‘At the end of the day, if these so-called politicians want to give a standing ovation, why don’t they go and fight themselves?

‘What we did was out of principle.’

MORE ON THE STORY HERE

These God damn scummy sub-human life forms with alphabet names nobody can spell or pronounce wouldn’t know principle if they fell over it.
Fine to not agree the was necessary. But honoring a soldier who has earned a medal by merely standing ... oh wait.  I see now what I missed.  Never mind.
They’d have stood I’m sure if OBL came into the room, or someone brought in a large poster of a recent suicide bomber.

Wardmom had it right in a recent comment.  Voter’s IQs need to be checked.

These filthy turds don’t belong in any western country. They don’t understand how things are done and they don’t want to know either. What they want to do, is change us into them. And there’s plenty of libtards on both sides of the Atlantic that will gladly help them. A pox on them all.

All photos are at the link.

Lest We Forget

Once again, the true face of Islam shines forth. Don’t look for this story on ANY news network or in ANY newspaper in the West.

14 Year Old Rape Victim Whipped To Death For Adultery

Rapist Fined $150

A girl named Hena, age 14, was murdered by local Sharia Committee at Shariatpur in the southern part of Bangladesh. The daughter of poor farmer named Darbesh Kha, Hena was forcefully abducted and raped on January 30, 2011 during late at night by Mahbub, age 40. During this abuse, villagers arrived in response to the cries of Hena. At the same time, the imam of the local mosque, a man named Mofiz Uddin, and a few teachers of Madrassa [Koranic School] led by Saiful Islam, also arrived; instead of taking any action against the rapist, the Muslim clergymen took Hena inside the Madrassa and locked her in a room. The following day, the same imam and some of members of the Sharia Committee in the village sat for a trial of Hena on charges of “immoral sexuality” before marriage. Later the committee decided to punish Hena with 200 lashes, and took financial penalty of only TK. 10,000 [US$ 150] from the rapist.

During the lashing, Hena became unconscious; when she was rushed to the nearby village hospital, the attending doctors declared her dead.

After lodging a murder case with the local police station, a few influential members of the local mosque committee, as well as Sharia Law Committee, are telling members of media that Hena was involved in “immoral activities,” and the villagers caught her red-handed while she was having physical relations with a villager; and that later the Sharia Law Committee punished Hena for such anti-Islamic and immoral activities. They denied admitting that Hena died during being lashed. Further, a few political leaders in the area are frantically trying to save the rapist and the members of the Sharia Law Committee.

Sharia Law Committees are becoming influential in a number of Muslim nations. Although the committees are illegal under local laws, there has never been any action against such groups by any government: these Sharia Law Committees are comprised of influential leaders of the locality as well as members of various political parties and fronts.

On average, in Bangladesh, several hundred rural females fall victim to such rulings and lashings, as well to other forms of “Islamic Penalties,” as Shariah Law Committees become increasingly prevalent.

This is the real Islam: women are slaves, the men are evil and full of violent hatred, and no common sense exists anywhere at all. They are the Devil’s children, a plague upon the world. They are the enemy now, they were the enemy then, they will be the enemy always, in every way shape and form. Anything they do is a lie, every utterance they make is rooted in evil. And they are out to take over the world. They must be stopped everywhere. Every action, every idea, every bit of influence must be fought against, because this kind of daily evil is what happens when they are in control.

This is what is coming to Egypt, if it isn’t already there. This will soon be their day to day existence. AND THEY WANT IT THAT WAY. And Obama is going to let it happen, and his trained cocksuckers in the media will be right behind him. Watch for the new message of how benign the Muslim Brotherhood is, and how they are a force for reason, freedom, equal rights, financial opportunity, and representative democracy. Sure they are. For exactly 10 minutes after they’ve been voted into power. Then Sharia will happen. And the above is Sharia in it’s most perfect tense. It is absolute evil. And so is islam. Religion Of Peace My Ass.

Quick Posts, Part 1: Our Side Just Got Better Looking

Carla Confesses: ‘I no longer feel left wing’

The supermodel-turned-singer’s reputation as a “luvvie Lefty” has been cited as a major handicap to Mr Sarkozy’s re-election, and her political change of heart is an attempt to boost support for her unpopular husband among his core Right-wing electorate.
image

Only two years ago Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy had claimed that she was “instinctively left-wing” after at one stage supporting her husband’s Socialist rival in the 2007 presidential elections. She had also publicly opposed Mr Sarkozy’s plan to conduct DNA tests on immigrants.

In 2008, she told the Libération newspaper: “Nobody has to be joined at the hip in politics or with one’s husband”. A year earlier she told a British newspaper: “I would never vote on the Right.”

But in Monday’s interview with Le Parisien newspaper, she said her previous political persuasion was only due to her belonging to a “community of artists.” “We were bobo (bourgeois bohemians), we were left-wing but at that time I voted in Italy (her native country).” I have never voted for the Left in France and I can tell you, I’m not about to start now. I don’t really feel left-wing anymore,” she said.

[Drew assigns Peiper a terrible and odious task] JD, do you think you could find a nice elegant pic of Mrs. B-S to go along with this post? I know they’re hard to find and there are so few to choose from. Thanks!

You’re more then welcome but this is a darn hard job I’ll tell ya. Looking at photos of pretty Italian women, jeesh. At my age too.
OK, time to nap now.

Quick Posts, Part 2

Ann Coulter finds the obvious in her latest column, “What Liberals Don’t Know About Guns”, pointing out the knee-jerk political reactions to any and every mass murder. And she was doing so well, until she wrote “clip”. Aaargh! Dammit Ann, you load cartridges into a magazine, and the magazine goes into the firearm. The only firearms that use clips are old school military rifles. Pistols don’t use them. Ok, except for one. And that pistol was originally intended to be for the military. Many, many long years later, one of them was the basis for the futuristic energy weapon used by a certain action hero in a famous space adventure movie. That’s your Midweek WhatsIt: name the pistol.

And if there was another model of fixed magazine, stripper clip loaded pistol that you know of, enlighten me. I only know of the one.

Yes, I know, there are several magazine loading tools that utilize stripper clips, but that isn’t what I mean. And yes, the .303 Enfield, old Smelly, has a detachable magazine, but troops were trained to load it with 2 5-round clips, even though they carried a spare loaded magazine. Cost saving gesture I guess.

Gurhkas In The Indian Navy?

“Not In My Waters” Indian Admiral Throws Down the Gauntlet

After Navy Captures And Sinks Pirate Mothership

12 hour battle captures 15 pirates and kills 10, frees crew, sinks fishing boat

image

Thai fishing boat Prantalay 14, hijacked in April, used as pirate mothership

The Indian Navy and the Coast Guard in a joint operation on Friday, destroyed a pirate mother ship, Prantalay, off the Lakshadweep group of islands and arrested 15 pirates.

They also rescued 20 fishermen of Thailand and Myanmarese nationalities who were being held hostage by the pirates after Prantalay was hijacked by them on April 18 last year. Since its hijack, the vessel was being extensively used by the pirates to launch attacks on merchant vessels passing along the shipping lanes off the island chain.

“The vessel has been a risk to international shipping for many months and has carried out several attacks,” said the Navy in a media release.

As reported by The Hindu on Friday, a Coast Guard Dornier aircraft on Friday shooed away two skiffs that were closing in on MV CMA CGM Verdi, a Bahama Flagged container ship, about 300 nautical miles west of Lakshadweep. “Seeing the aircraft, the skiffs immediately aborted their piracy attempt and dashed towards the mother vessel Prantalay, which hurriedly hoisted the two skiffs onboard and set a westerly course to escape from the area. This action cleared all doubts of Prantalay being used by pirates as a mother vessel. Whilst the Coast Guard and Navy Dorniers continuously tracked Prantalay, Indian Naval Ship Cankarso (a recently commissioned Water Jet Fast Attack Craft) which was already deployed in the area for anti-piracy patrol, was directed to intercept and investigate Prantalay,” said the Navy.

According to the Navy, Cankarso fired a warning shot well ahead of the bows of Prantalay to compel it to stop in keeping with internationally accepted norms. Instead of stopping, however, Prantalay suddenly opened fire on INS Cankarso. The warship returned limited fire in self defence. Thereafter, it was observed that a fire had broken out on Prantalay (mother vessels are known to carry additional fuel drums to fuel the skiffs). Personnel were also seen jumping overboard, the Navy said.

INS Cankarso recovered 20 fishermen of Thai and Myanmarese nationalities. These were the original crew of the fishing vessel and were being held hostage for several months. Fifteen pirates were also recovered, under humanitarian considerations.

Blindfolded and handcuffed, they were produced in a sort of line-up today in Mumbai. Minus their AK-47s, they looked less potent than their at-sea avatars. The 15 men, many of them Somalian, are pirates captured over the weekend off India’s coast.

There were 25 pirates originally and they trespassed into Indian waters at 10.30 am on Friday and tried to hijack a container ship off the coast of Lakshwadeep.

The target ship’s call for help was picked up by a Coast Guard aircraft. The Indian Navy’s INS Cankarso pitched in for a 12-hour battle. Ten pirates were killed and their hostages - 20 fishermen from Thailand and Myanmar were rescued.

India is not yet clear on how to try these men. Ten Somali pirates are awaiting trial in a Kochi jail, in the absence of any international law to try pirates.

And we were doing so well up until that paragraph!

NEW DELHI: The Navy’s sinking of a pirate ‘mother vessel’ off the Lakshadweep Islands will send a “strong message” to the sea brigands that India will not tolerate their nefarious designs anywhere near its waters, Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma told TOI [the Times Of India] on Sunday.

“There is no question of anybody messing in our waters or area… it’s absolutely unacceptable to us,” Admiral Verma said.

Pirates have begun to operate with impunity far away from their bases in and around Somalia since last year, with some even launching attacks in the eastern Arabian Sea near the Lakshadweep Islands.

India in response has deployed some Navy and Coast Guard frigates and fast attack craft, along with patrol aircraft, helicopters and marine commandos, to “locate and disable pirate mother ships and skiffs” and “sanitise” the area.

“After our stepped-up deployment there, the trend is that the pirates have begun to move westwards, back towards the African coast,” Admiral Verma said.

How about that, a fighting navy? Will wonders never cease?

Meanwhile, EU Forces Screw Up Rescue,

Fail To Seize Ship Or Initiative

A German ship-owner has confirmed the death of a sailor during a failed bid to free a cargo ship seized by Somali pirates off the Seychelles last week.

A Seychelles patrol ship opened fire while trying to free the Beluga Nomination on Wednesday, the head of Bremen-based Beluga told German media.

One pirate was killed and the others shot dead a crewman in retaliation, Niels Stolberg said.

Mr Stolberg described the response to the hijacking as a “disaster”.

The cargo ship, which is 9,775 dead weight tonnes, was captured last Monday by armed pirates using a skiff, 390 nautical miles (722km) north of the Seychelles.

A Seychelles patrol boat appears to have reached the hijacked vessel first, with a Danish warship from Nato’s counter-piracy force only arriving after the fatal clash.  When the Seychelles boat opened fire the pirates “evidently lost control”, Mr Stolberg told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper. In the ensuing confusion, reports suggest the crew tried to overwhelm their captors, and two crew members managed to escape.

“The pirates shot dead one of our men, probably in a fit of anger,” Mr Stolberg said.

Nato spokeswoman Lt Cdr Jacqui Sherriff told the BBC News website that when the Danish ship, the Esbern Snare, reached the scene, the master of the Beluga Nomination urged it to keep its distance because of the earlier clash.

“We did not want to inflame the situation so we backed off,” Cdr Sherriff said.

The German ship owner described attempts to rescue them as a “disaster”.

“The crew spent two and a half days in a reinforced room but nobody came to help them,” he said.

“The international community has failed. An absolutely uncoordinated intervention like that is totally incomprehensible.”

Mr Stolberg added that the cargo ship’s navigational equipment had been damaged in the shooting and the pirates had called out another captured ship, the York, to assist it in reaching the Somali coast.

Pointing out that the pirates had been exhausted and disorientated after the shooting, he criticised both the Nato force and Navfor, the EU’s counter-piracy force, for failing to intervene.

An attempt to rescue the pirated German freighter Beluga Nomination off the coast of Somalia ended in tragedy, with at least one crew member dead. Now shipowners are demanding that the German military protect their ships. Some have already resorted to hiring armed guards.

“There is a major danger of escalation if merchant ships have armed guards,” Roger Middleton, an expert on Somalia for London-based think tank Chatham House, told the Christian Science Monitor in 2009. “If pirates approach an unarmed ship, they might shoot to scare. But if they approach a ship and that ship fires back on them, they will shoot to kill.”

Until now, however, mercenaries have proven to be both deadly and efficient. For instance, when Somali pirates attacked the Panamanian freighter Almezaan last March, the armed guards on board opened fire. When the Spanish warship Navarra, which was part of the EU’s military operation in the region, arrived at the scene somewhat later, they saw two bullet-riddled assault boats speeding away from the freighter, with six surviving pirates and one dead pirate on board.

German shipowners are also vehemently calling on the German government to provide protection for their vessels, preferably in the form of soldiers. They argue that the attack on the Beluga Nomination showed that the passive concept of the safe room or citadel only works if warships attack the pirates quickly enough. Offen, a large Hamburg-based shipping company, has decided that armed guards will always be on board its ships in the future when they pass through the pirate zone.

Niels Stolberg, head of the Bremen-based Beluga shipping company, proposes stationing three ships in strategic locations in the Indian Ocean. Like armed security officers on commercial flights, German soldiers would board potentially endangered ships and, once they had passed through the Indian Ocean, would then be taken off the ships again. The owners would pay a portion of the costs, says Stolberg. The German Shipowners’ Association supports Stolberg’s plan.

Hey, isn’t this exactly the plan I came up with 2 years ago? Except my plan called for quick release mounts for 40mm Bofors guns and small missiles.

Sounds to me like international patience is about worn out with these little bastards. The shipping companies have tried the soft solutions like their governments wanted, and they aren’t working. Now they’ll start doing what works. Are such actions beyond the line? No ... because a ship far at sea is by actual definition “beyond the line”. Arm them up and shoot to kill. What the hell, if the islamos can have a nebulous war on the West, then western businesses can declare a war on Somalia. Somebody has to.

Tiger Mom Say Study Harder

Here’s a link over to Burning Hot, where Scott has the best of the Tiger Mom supermotivators on display. And the Asian Dads ones too, who I’m guessing have a reputation for pinching the pennies until they scream.

In case you haven’t been following the Tiger Mom story - it was on the cover of lefty Time Magazine last week - it’s the meme about Asian moms who push their kids really hard. One of them wrote a book about it, and she’s got rather a negative opinion about the American school system. Soccer moms everywhere are all worked up. I gather that Asian parents have high expectations for their children, and labor under the assumption that the kids have both the ability to achieve, and the drive to succeed, as long as the parents set high standards. Really high standards. Like “Get straight A’s in everything or I’ll burn all your toys”. Yet somehow the kids survive, and excel in school. Whether they have any imagination or freethinking ability is up for debate.

It’s the polar opposite to the coddling crap that goes on in US schools and households today. But it’s fun to have fun with Tiger Moms. Let the beatings begin!

Not Too Sharp Today

Two interesting stories floating around on the net these past few days, both involving knives. I’ve been trying to find some common thread that they have so I can join them together, but I can’t come up with much more than the Ma Kelly Theory of Universal Commonality:

Ma Kelly: Open up! It’s Ma Kelly!
Mary-Margaret Catharine Dineen: [opens her door] What do you want? Get out of here.
Ma Kelly: I got to talk to you.
Mary-Margaret Catharine Dineen: We don’t have nothing to say to each other.
Ma Kelly: We got plenty to say to each other. We got a lot in common.
Mary-Margaret Catharine Dineen: Yeah, what?
Ma Kelly: We both scrub floors. We’re both swell lookers. And neither one of us is Chinese.
Mary-Margaret Catharine Dineen: Oh, well in that case, come on in ...

So here goes.

In Story 1, Political Correctness turns itself inside out to respect any religion other than Judaism or Christianity, and thus a Detroit area school rules that a Sikh kid can carry a knife in school, because the knife is question is a Kirpan, which is a dagger with symbolic significance to the Sikh faith.

A Detroit-area district says it’s allowing Sikh students to wear a small, religious dagger to school, MyFoxDetroit.com reports.

The decision by the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools reverses a ban put in place in December after a fourth-grader at a Canton Township elementary school was found with a dull, 3- to 5-inch kirpan.

The kirpan represents a commitment to fight evil in the Sikh tradition. The dagger is a religious symbol that baptized Sikh males are expected to carry.

The principal initially let the boy keep the kirpan, but the school board instituted a ban because of parental concerns and conflicts with the district’s rules against bringing weapons to school.

This situation has come up many many times in schools all over the world. Sometimes a middle ground can be reached, wherein the kirpan is welded to it’s metal sheath so that the knife can’t be drawn; sometimes a small jewelry charm that only looks like a sheathed blade can be worn. Sometimes the child has to leave the school because the parents and the Sikh community are unbending and stand by their rights:

July 2005 - Plano, Texas, USA - A 16 year old Sikh school girl has rejected her school’s decision to allow her to wear her Kirpan only if it is welded shut to the sheath. Fortunately for her, she will not have to face the consequences of the school’s ruling because she has been selected to complete her schooling at the University of North Texas, under a prestigious academic programme run by the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Sciences (TAMS).

Priyanka Kaur says, ‘ This matter is not closed. I ask every Sikh child who is faced with my situation to defend their right to practise their religion, which includes the right to wear the Kirpan and other articles of faith,’ said Priyanka Kaur.
...
Kultaran Singh, who not only stood by his daughter’s resolve but was also actively involved in negotiating with the school, said: ‘We need to practice Sikhi to the Max, as per the teachings of the Gurus and the spirit and word of the Reht Maryada. We need to stand behind our children and anyone who wishes to defend their religious rights and fight all the way at any level’.

In this day and age of Zero Tolerance idiocy, where children are kicked out of school for pointing their fingers or making stick figure drawings of guns or soldiers, it is a) quite refreshing to see one group argue successfully for their right to wear actual weapons for religious reasons, and b) the largest dollop of uni-directional PC bullshit I’ve seen in ages, since Jewish or Christian kids can get suspended for wearing any kind of their own religious accoutrements, from rosary beads to crosses and stars of David, and God help them if they even shoot spitballs in class.

It is a mistake to think of Sikhs as Hindus or as Muslims. They are neither. The Sikh religion started in the 1600s in the Punjab region of India, which is in the northwest part of the country in the foothills of the Himalayas and along the border with what is now Pakistan.  Up in those mountains, just a hundred or so miles to the east lies Nepal, the fabled land from whence come the Gurkha warriors, and that gives me a segue to Story #2, today’s lesson which proves yet again that these are the last people you ever ever want to mess with. Oh, and that going about armed in a “well regulated” fashion is always a good thing.

Now that’s a knife!

POKHARA, Jan 13: Gorkha soldiers have long been known the world over for their valor and these khukuri-wielding warriors winning the British many a battle have become folklore.

A retired Indian Gorkha soldier recently revisited those glory days when he thwarted 40 robbers, killing three of them and injuring eight others, with his khukuri during a train journey. He is in line to receive three gallantry awards from the Indian government.
...
Shrestha, who was in the Maurya Express to Gorakhpur from Ranchi on September 2 while returning home following voluntary retirement from the Indian army--saved the girl who was going to be raped by the robbers in front of her hapless parents, and in doing so won plaudits from everybody.
...
The band of about 40 robbers, some of whom were travelling as passengers, stopped the train in the Chittaranjan jungles in West Bengal around midnight.

“They started snatching jewelry, cell phones, cash, laptops and other belongings from the passengers,” Shrestha recalled. The soldier had somehow remained a silent spectator amidst the melee, but not for long. He had had enough when the robbers stripped an 18-year-old girl sitting next to him and tried to rape her right in front of her parents. He then took out his khukuri and took on the robbers.

“The girl cried for help, saying ´You are a soldier, please save a sister´,” Shrestha recalled. “I prevented her from being raped, thinking of her as my own sister,” he added. He took one of the robbers under control and then started to attack the others. He said the rest of the robbers fled after he killed three of them with his khukuri and injured eight others.
...

He did such a nice job that his regiment un-retired him, gave him a promotion, and a bag of cash containing 50,000 rupees. The Indian government plans to give him a pile of cash too, as do the parents of the girl he saved.

He still finds it hard to believe that he took on 40 armed robbers alone. “They may have feared that more of my army friends were traveling with me and fled after fighting me for around 20 minutes,” he explained.

Horry Clap. He fought 40 armed robbers for TWENTY MINUTES? That’s not a fight, that’s an actual battle. Damn right his regiment took him back.
