Now will we finally see some action?

Somali pirates have been seizing yachts and sailboats and all manner of freighters filled with crates of whatever for several years now, and very little has been done. Yadda yadda, we’re sending a couple of Navy ships, yadda yadda, respect the pirate’s human rights, blah blah blah. But I think this time they’ve bitten off a little bit more than they can chew, and I hope the international response is a real jawbreaker. A real burn-the-cities-and-salt-the-earth kind of response.

Somali Pirates Seize Supertanker full of Crude Oil and Saudi Crew

Piss off both the West and the House of Saud at one go. Not what I’d call a really smart move.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Somali pirates hijacked a supertanker hundreds of miles off the Horn of Africa, seizing the Saudi-owned ship loaded with crude and its 25-member crew, the U.S. Navy said Monday.

It appeared to be the largest ship ever seized by pirates. After the brazen hijacking, the pirates on Monday sailed the Sirius Star to a Somali port that has become a haven for bandits and the ships they have seized, a Navy spokesman said.image

The hijacking was among the most brazen in a surge in attacks this year by ransom-hungry Somali pirates. Attacks off the Somali coast have increased more than 75 percent this year, and even the world’s largest vessels are vulnerable.

The Sirius Star, commissioned in March and owned by the Saudi oil company Aramco, is 1,080 feet long — about the length of an aircraft carrier — making it one of the largest ships to sail the seas. It can carry about 2 million barrels of oil.

Lt. Nathan Christensen, a spokesman for the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, said the pirates hijacked the ship on Saturday about 450 nautical miles off the coast of Kenya — the farthest out to sea Somali pirates have struck.

By expanding their range, Somali pirates are “certainly a threat to many more vessels,” Christensen said. He said the pirates on the Sirius Star were “nearing an anchorage point” at the Somali port town of Eylon Monday.

Somali pirates have seized at least six several ships off the Horn of Africa in the past week, but the hijacking of a supertanker marked a dramatic escalation.

image

The MV Sirius Star is a brand new supertanker, built by Daewoo in South Korea and just launched in March. It has a deadweight of 318,000 tonnes.

The Sirius Star is built to the latest maritime regulations and to Vela’s safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly specifications to ensure the reliable transportation of Saudi Aramco’s crude oil to its customers.

Multinational Outrage!!

A supertanker hijacked by pirates and with British nationals among its hostages is making its way to a Somali port, according to the US Navy.

The Foreign Office earlier confirmed that two Britons were among the 25 crew. Nationals from Croatia, Britain, the Philippines, Poland and Saudi Arabia are also on board.

A NATO flotilla of seven ships, as well as a Russian frigate and Indian vessels, are in the Gulf of Aden to help the U.S. 5th Fleet in anti-piracy patrols and to escort cargo vessels. The 5th Fleet said it has repelled about two dozen pirate attacks since Aug. 22 in the gulf, which connects the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean and is one of the world’s busiest waterways with some 20,000 ships passing through it each year.

Looks like it’s time the fighting navies of the entire world to get their rudders in gear and start actively suppressing piracy across the entire western Indian Ocean. The Sirius was seized south east of Kenya, but not really all that far out at sea. And let’s get that damned little circle of mud huts, the pirate enclave town of Eyl, a modern day Port Royal, burned to the ground already. Somalia has become an enemy of the world, and it’s past time they paid the price.

Nearly Instant Update:

Campbell said the Navy does not expect to dispatch a vessel to aide the super tanker because it does not have dangerous weapons aboard like the MV Faina, a Ukrainian ship loaded with arms that was seized by pirates on September 25.
...
Eleven vessels are currently being held by pirates hoping to secure ransoms for their release, according to The Associated Press. They include the MV Faina, which was hijacked along with 20 crew and a cargo of weapons and T-72 tanks.
...
“Piracy is an international crime that threatens global commerce. Shipping companies have to understand that naval forces can not be everywhere. Self protection measures are the best way to protect their vessels, their crews, and their cargo.”

So the Navy won’t do shit? And the ships should be protecting themselves? Fair enough. Issue Letters of Marque to every single merchant vessel over 10,000 tons and arm them. 40mm Bofors guns bow, stern, and midships, augmented with a dozen M2s. From Durban South Africa to Mumbai India, any small ship approaching a large ship in transit will be shot and sunk on sight. Period. Same approach for the other pirate infested sea passages around the globe.

Yeah, What He Said

Good old CM dropped this link in the comments. Outstanding.

Gonzo Puts It Bluntly But Says It Best

To the Left:

News Flash - I didn’t vote for Bush or Clinton either, and while I have criticized them vigorously and in the most ice cold and mocking terms at times, I never tried to undercut the office and the nation because for the past 16 years - make that 20 - people “not from my party” have been in office. I’ve not wished ill on our soldiers, even during Clinton’s “Wag the Dog” antics.

You. Fucking. Have. Strictly because GWB has had (R) after his name, and no other. Don’t insult my intellegence by attempting to deny it, if he’d had a (D) there, you’d have been singing “Hosana” over him, and we’d be listening to three months of Network specials about “The Bush Legacy.”

And I detest you, and hold you in the deepest contempt. I resent having to breathe the same air as you. You and I are not brothers, friends, or countrymen - in fact, you’re not even the same species as me, you subhuman oxygen thieves.

To the Right:

… more and more I am coming to the conclusion that the Libertarian Party is bent of constantly snatching defeat from the jaws of saleability. So my intent is to give another chance to the Republicans to remake themselves as the party of Reagan. And it is high time for a Night of the Long Knives in that august assembly, with Arlen Specter, Olympia Snow, John McCain and all the rest of the east-coast, latte-sipping, champagne and caviar country-club Rockefeller Republicans. Onto the ash-heap of conservatism and go join the fucking DemocratsCommunists, you Quisling, turncoat, backstabbing, traitorous sacks of shit.

Or shut the fuck up, and sit down in the back of the fucking bus, and let the adults drive. Michael Steele, Fred Thompson, Sarahcuda, and Boby Jindhal - these are the people I want to hear. Not you.

I don’t want to hear anymore “Big Tent” bullshit. No more “Democrat Lite” loserism.

None. It ends. Ronald Reagan and William F. Buckley are spinning in their graves.

See? Perfectly even handed. Fair and Balanced disgust for both sides. Wipe the slate clean and start over

Our Long Conservative Nightmare is Over

From my buddy flapjawman (I sure wish he’d change his handle!)

First, flapjawman’s observations:

I highly recommend his/her own observations of the high levels of indoctrination going on in the public schools - first hand, no less.  Keep in mind that students learning about the facts, America, etc, is also a form of indoctrination but the amount of “do what ever you want, go ahead, you have no responsibility anymore for anything” sort of indoctrination is the antithesis of what America stands for - unless I am mistaken…

This might explain Turtler’s recent attacks on me. Might. Or did he just jump to conclusions based on a sentence or two?

Back to Our long conservative nightmare is over:

Years of low taxes for everyone will finally come to an end, and others can now be taxed more. Years of low regulation and incredible innovation will come to an end, and predictable controlled low growth can be again the norm. Years of low unemployment will end, but even though it will go higher, it will be unemployment for productive people too, which is what people want. Years of no terrorist attacks will finally end, and we can go back to reacting to terrorist attacks, and reclaim the moral high ground of being killed and being upset by it. Years of terrorists on the run, killed in foreign countries, will be over, and we can go back to arresting bad guys when we convict them in a court of law or give them back to their own country for more fair justice than they’d get here. Yes, the long conservative nightmare is finally over.

The nation can begin to finally shake itself out of sleep, out of the dream it has been having of a world where we are the good guy, where god watches over us, where prosperity comes to all, where many voices are heard in the media, and where education is about teaching real knowledge- yes, this nightmare can end, and we can return the real world, of China, and Russia, and Kenya, and Iran, and North Korea.

The long conservative nightmare ends, and we wake to join our bothers and sisters of the world in union and equality.

Gods Yes!!. Get rid of all that sh*t! I feel better. . . not!

Iraqis accused of murdering British troops get thousands of pounds in legal aid .

Thought this whole thing rather Moonbat like although maybe not bizarre given today’s legal system.
Bet the Brit taxpayer really happy to fund this. yeah right.
gotta go, running behind. Hope I can post more later.

Reinforces the thought, First we kill all the lawyers.

By Sean Rayment, Defence Correspondent, and Ben Leach
Last Updated: 10:42PM GMT 15/11/2008

Two Iraqis accused of murdering British prisoners of war have been granted thousands of pounds in legal aid to fight being handed over to the Iraqi authorities to face trial.

Faisal Al-Saadoon and Khalaf Mufdhi are accused of killing Staff Sergeant Simon Cullingworth and Sapper Luke Allsopp in cold blood during the beginning of the Iraq war in 2003.

The British government wants to hand the two Iraqis over to the Iraqi government for trial. But their British lawyer has launched a High Court legal challenge saying such a trial would breach his clients’ human rights.

If he succeeds, the men, who are currently in British custody in Iraq, could be brought to the UK to face trial. Senior British Government officials are concerned that the two men will claim political asylum if they are tried in the UK.

The challenge, to be heard this week, has angered the dead British soldiers’ relatives and opposition politicians.

Patrick Mercer, the Tory MP for Newark and a former infantry commander, said: “ It seems totally wrong to me that these men are being given legal aid. Would we have given legal aid to Nazis who committed war crimes in the Second World War – of course not – this is arrant nonsense.

“What the hell is the point of fighting a war to try and establish democracy in a tyranny and then show a complete lack of trust in the new regime by failing to deliver alleged killers for trial? If these men do not stand trial in Iraq it would make a mockery of the blood spilt by British troops in fighting this war.”

The murder of SSgt Cullingworth, 36, and Spr Luke Allsopp, 24, both members of 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) provoked a storm of outrage in the UK, with Tony Blair claiming that the two men had been executed by the Iraqi Army.

The soldiers were travelling as part of a convoy which was ambushed by Fedayeen militiamen on the outskirts of the town of Al Zubayr in southern Iraq on March 23, 2003.

While half the convoy escaped, SSgt Cullingworth, who was married with two sons, and Spr Allsopp, were taken to a local Ba’ath party headquarters and then to an Iraqi intelligence base, where they were shot dead.

Photographs taken of the soldiers at the compound as they lay dying, surrounded by a baying mob of Iraqis, were later shown on the Arabic TV channel al-Jazeera. The soldiers’ graves were discovered a month later and their bodies were exhumed.

The judicial review of the men’s case has been launched by the firm Public Immunity Lawyers who have been funded through legal aid.

Phil Shiner, of Public Immunity Lawyers, believes that Mr Saadoon, 56, and Mr Mufdhi, 58, would not get a fair trial in Iraq and could face the death penalty if found guilty. He also believes they would be tortured and abused by other inmates.

Mr Shiner told The Sunday Telegraph that the Iraqi Higher Tribunal, where they would be tried, was a “politicised court” established by the US-led coalition to try senior members of the former Ba’athist regime, and had already ordered the execution of several regime members including Saddam Hussein.

Mr Shiner, who confirmed that the judicial review was being funded by legal aid, will claim that to try the alleged killers in Iraq would be a breach of their human rights under the Article 3 of the European Convention of Human Rights.

He said: “The IHT have a track record of sentencing people to death and we, the UK, have a policy of not handing over people to a jurisdiction if there is a risk of the death penalty being applied.”

The Sunday Telegraph understands, however, that senior officials in the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign Office and the Ministry of Justice have been given assurances at the “highest level” that the two accused will receive a fair trial and treatment, whatever the outcome of the case.

It is also understood that one of the families of the British dead have written to the Iraqi court and asked for clemency in the event that the former Iraqi soldiers are found guilty.

(proves there’s ALWAYS one out there, doesn’t it?)

Margaret Cullingworth, 83, the mother of Simon Cullingworth, who lives in Ruthin, North Wales, said: “They should be tried and brought to justice in their own country. It was a horrible crime. We could have accepted it if they had been killed in battle but they were prisoners and were murdered.

“We do have confidence in the UK authorities and believe they will do the right thing. Simon’s widow has been left to bring up the children on her own and she has found it very hard – we all have.”

A spokesman for the MoD said: “The Secretary of State for Defence and the Foreign Secretary have received assurances from the Iraqi Government that Mr Al-Saadoon and Mr Mufdhi will be treated humanely when they are transferred to Iraqi custody. The assurances have been considered and found credible, and they have agreed that the two suspects can be transferred to the Iraqi authorities, provided that the UK courts finds this lawful.

My reply (again)

I’ve just recently joined a Toastmasters club that is affiliated with my local Republican Party. This is my response to an email from the president of said Toastmasters club.

I have to disagree with you ---. It wasn’t poor communication. It was the message. There is just no way to improve the message through better communication skills.

The Republican Party abandoned conservatism as it’s message.

The message was: We are Democrat Lite!

Last time I checked, we’ve lost on Democrat Lite every single time since I was born. Republicans win when they embrace conservatism, see 1980, 1984, 1988, 1994.

2000 and 2004 were just weird. ‘Compassionate conservatism’ is just more liberalism. Voters were fooled for a couple of elections, but you can only fool them for so long. In 2006 or 2008 they opted for the real liberalism.

Why? Because Republicans didn’t give them a choice. Democrat or Democrat Lite?

Always go for the real thing!

The opposition!

Okay. I’m coming out of my post-election depression. I’m starting to pay attention to the news again. And I’ve made a decision.

No ‘loyal’ opposition to the B. Hussein Administration.

Just plain, pure, opposition.

I’ve started off by printing this out and plastering it on my car.

Can’t call this one racist

Alan Keyes sues Obama over citizenship proof

I know, I know ... here we go again. This story is all over the internet, from the DU to the freepers, and at a zillion blogs in between, but the only “official” news site carrying the story is over at World Net Daily.

From the American Independent Party website:

Presidential candidate Alan Keyes, AIP leaders sue in CA court to obtain Obama citizenship proof, stop Secretary of State from certifying Electors

Fenton, MI – November 14, 2008

Presidential candidate Alan Keyes, vice-presidential candidate Wiley S. Drake, and the Chairman of the American Independent Party, Markham Robinson, have filed suit in California Superior Court in Sacramento seeking to bar Secretary of State Debra Bowen from certifying to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger the names of Electors, and from transmitting to each presidential Elector a Certificate of Election, until documentary proof is produced and verified showing that Senator Obama is a “natural born” citizen of the United States, and does not hold citizenship of Indonesia, Kenya or Great Britain.

In addition, they have asked that the court issue a peremptory writ barring Senator Obama’s California Electors from signing the Certificate of Vote until such documentary proof is produced and verified.

In response to questions about why the suit was being filed, Ambassador Alan Keyes commented, “I and others are concerned that this issue be properly investigated and decided before Senator Obama takes office. Otherwise there will be a serious doubt as to the legitimacy of his tenure. This doubt would also affect the respect people have for the Constitution as the supreme law of the land. I hope the issue can be quickly clarified so that the new President can take office under no shadow of doubt. This will be good for him and for the nation.”

Former Reagan administration official Ambassador Alan Keyes and Wiley S. Drake were the 2008 presidential and vice-presidential nominees of the American Independent Party, which is the California affiliate of the new national America’s Independent Party.

Mission Viejo, California attorney Dr. Orly Taitz and United States Justice Foundation Executive Director Gary Kreep are representing the plaintiffs in this case.

The wonderfully named blog, Obama Waffles, provides a link to the actual submitted petition, which is hidden in the back office files of some investment web site. Go figure. The Obama Waffles blog also has Mooseburger Helper for sale. Go figure again. Snopes has no mention on this at all.

The .pdf document of the writ does match, word for word, the text that reader DSD sent me. I think this is the key paragraph:

There is a reasonable and common expectation by the voters that to qualify for the ballot, the individuals running for office must meet minimum qualifications as outlined in the federal and state Constitutions and statutes, and that compliance with those minimum qualifications has been confirmed by the officials overseeing the election process. Heretofore, only a signed statement from the candidate attesting to his or her meeting those qualifications was requested and received by SOS, with no verification demanded. This practice represents a much lower standard than that demanded of one when requesting a California driver’s license. Since SOS has, as its core, the mission of certifying and establishing the validity of the election process, this writ seeks a Court Order barring SOS from certifying the California Electors until documentary proof that Senator Obama is a “natural born” citizen of the United States of America is received by her.

There have been 17 lawsuits so far over Obama’s birth situation. Several have been dismissed, but several are still pending. This latest effort may be too little too late; Obama can still get the prize even if California’s 55 electoral votes are tied up in court. Keyes would need a similar suit in at least 2 of the other big states to actually block the electoral ballot casting results.

Obama’s New Wheels

Potent New Presidential Limousine Spotted

Spy photos obtained by FOXNews.com show that when President-elect Barack Obama moves to Pennsylvania Avenue in January, he will be handed the keys to what looks to be the most potent presidential limousine ever to carry the American head of state.

At first glance, the unfinished limo looks a lot like the current model used to ferry President Bush around town: an armored Cadillac sedan with a modest stretch job, raised roof line, and mounts on the front fenders to carry the American and presidential flags. But eyewitnesses say the new vehicle is actually much larger, and rides on large wheels similar to those found on commercial grade GMC TopKick trucks. The vehicle was being escorted by two of those big boys at the time it was spotted, leading to speculation that the car is in fact one of them in disguise.

Photos show doors that appear to be nearly 8 inches deep, with thick, fixed windows. Only the driver’s window has a small slot that can slide open, which we assume is for paying tolls. With so much armor on board, it would be no surprise if GM needed to resort to using the bones of a truck to support the added weight.

A source at one of the world’s premier security vehicle manufacturers says that armored cars of this magnitude are capable of withstanding not only armor-piercing bullets, but also attacks from IEDs. A number of electronic countermeasures are known to exist that can do things like jam enemy communications and prevent them from detonating roadside bombs remotely, but many others remain top secret and are available only to customers at the highest levels of government.

Rancino has obtained his own spy photos of an earlier version of the new limo, built to Obama’s original specs:

Here’s a sure Moonbat award. Schools forced to seek pupils’ views on discipline.

The lunacy never ends.  They just keep on finding new things to be really silly about.  These ppl need real jobs I think.
Oh right.  Who’d hire em?  Forgot.  The state of course.

Schools will be forced to ask pupils’ permission before imposing rules on discipline, uniform and the curriculum under new legislation.

By Graeme Paton, Education Editor
Last Updated: 9:25PM GMT 14 Nov 2008

In a move branded “crazy” by head teachers, all state schools will be legally obliged to consult children on major policies, including health and safety, food and equality.

Baroness Morgan, the Children’s Minister, insisted schools must do more than simply solicit pupils’ views on “what colour to paint the walls”.

The rules will be introduced as part of the Education and Skills Bill currently being debated in Parliament.

But the disclosure sparked outrage among teachers who said it would be “open to abuse”.

There were also fears it could trigger a raft of legal action as pupils and parents sue local authorities claiming children’s views were ignored.

(and of course that would NEVER happen)

Lord Elton, the Conservative peer, insisted pupils’ opinions had to be taken into account but said: “I am sorry that it has to be in legislation. We are a litigious nation, and it would be very unfortunate if we were to have a rash of cases of parents saying, ‘You were not listening to my little Johnny’.”

The Liberal Democrats tabled an amendment to the Bill in the House of Lords requiring school governors to “invite and consider pupils’ views”.

Ministers said the change, which received cross-party support, would be added to the legislation. The Bill is due to be debated in Parliament for the last time next week.

Baroness Morgan said it went further than existing rules which require schools to “have regard” to pupils’ opinions.

“Governing bodies must do more than simply solicit pupils’ views,” she told the Lords. “Through regulations, we intend to require governing bodies to invite views on a core set of policy matters. As a minimum, schools should seek and take account of pupils’ views on policies on the delivery of the curriculum, behaviour, the uniform, school food, health and safety, equalities and sustainability, not simply on what colour to paint the walls.”

She said schools would be exempt from discussing staff appointments or the school budget with children.

Guidance is expected to be drafted - and sent to schools - setting out the full detail of the rules.

The move follows the introduction of new-style Ofsted inspections, in which pupils are asked to rate teaching standards and conditions in their own school.

Many schools already include children on interview panels when appointing new staff.

But John Dunford, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said the latest move went too far,

“This is crazy”, he told the Times Educational Supplement. “I am a strong supporter of pupil voice, but schools are increasingly consulting pupils because they think it is the right thing to do, not because Government tells them to. I am annoyed and furious that yet another in this continual stream of legal and educational duties is being placed on schools.”

Chris Keates, general secretary of the NASUWT union, said: “This is completely unnecessary and will be open to abuse.”

The first colour photographs from the German front line during World War One.

A bit of interesting photographic history.

My posting will be light to non today.

There are 17 color photos at the link.

Hans Hildenbrand was one of 19 official German photographers documenting the war, but the only one to shoot in colour

No Way. Really?

Obama Job Application: No Gun Owners Wanted

Gosh, I never thought it would be like this! [/snark]

President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team is showing its hostility toward lawful firearm owners by “weeding out” job applicants who own firearms themselves, a Second Amendment group says.

The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) notes that question 59 – part of a 63-item questionnaire given to Obama administration job applicants – asks for information about firearms owned by the applicant and his or her family.

Found in the questionnaire’s “Miscellaneous” section, question 59 reads, “Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”

Although it’s not clear that gun ownership would disqualify a job applicant, ISRA says question 59 shows the Obama team’s “distaste” for firearm owners.

“Question 59 provides clear insight into how Obama and his people perceive firearm owners,” said ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. “The questionnaire poses a number of questions asking the applicant to reveal any unethical activities, or embarrassing Internet chats, then wraps up by asking if anyone in the applicant’s family owns a firearm.  Obviously, Obama feels that owning a firearm is akin to talking dirty in Internet chat rooms.”

Pearson says the attitude is not surprising, given that Obama – as an Illinois State senator—voted for SB1195, which included a provision calling for gun owners to be registered in the same manner as sex offenders.

“Once again, we have to ask ourselves just what candidate Obama was talking about when he said he has ‘respect’ for the 2nd Amendment,” said Pearson.

ISRA, which describes itself as an advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership, has posted a copy of the questionnaire on its Web site.

The National Rifle Association also noted the anti-Second Amendment implications of the Obama’s team’s employment questionnaire:

“[A]s this litmus test shows, they have every intention of putting together an administration that is hostile to firearms ownership and to Second Amendment rights,” said NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre.

“One of their first official acts is to make a list of gun owners among their own employees. It proves where their hearts are. It shows what their philosophy is. This is more proof that this administration is coming after our freedom and NRA stands ready.”

As you’ve probably already seen on news pages and other blogs, or even seen on the TV news, guns are flying off the shelves at every gun store in America. And not just Evil Black Rifles and easily concealable little pistols. Anything that goes bang. Anything. NICS instant background checks are up almost 50%. In many places reloading supplies are also in short supply, and the warehouses that were full of ammunition a couple months ago are mostly empty. And all of this is before National Ammo Day, which of course is next week.

image

yes, I know some kinds of ammo have been in short supply for a couple of years now, because of the war effort. But if your local WalMart still has .22LR in stock, you might want to think about picking some up.

shopkeeper could face a murder charge.

This is another report on the previous story. This one from the Daily Mail.
Kinda doubtful they will prosecute the shop owner though.  Least I hope they don’t.

Instead of running the full story here, I’m going to post the criminal record of the late and unlamented scum who tried to rob this guy.  I sure do hope it hurt a lot.  Payback ya might say for all the pain and agony he caused over eight or nine years.  And I think the Criminal Justice System here sucks, like it does at home.

That ONE miserable rat could cause so much over so long does NOT say much for any system that allows it to continue.
There is always with no exceptions ever, a point in time when anyone can predict that a criminal will not reform and can’t be reformed because he doesn’t want to be.  He likes what he does.  He should have been snuffed years ago and this spot of bother would not have happened.

Shopkeeper faces murder charge after turning knife on career criminal during carjacking
By JARA NARAIN and JAMES TOZER
Last updated at 15:35 21 February 2008

A shopkeeper could face a murder charge following a fatal struggle with a knife-wielding raider.

Tony Singh fought back when Liam Kilroe, a career criminal, ambushed him in his car after closing time.

Kilroe, who was trying to steal Mr Singh’s takings, staggered away with a stab wound from his own knife and died in a pool of blood.

The 25-year-old was on the run after being charged with two robberies.

Police called to the scene found Mr Singh in a state of shock, still sitting in his car and nursing serious knife wounds to his back, face and neck.

However, the officers arrested the 34-year-old and are preparing to send a file to the Crown Prosecution Service.

A murder charge would carry a life sentence on conviction.

The case resembles that of Tony Martin who was charged with murder after shooting Fred Barras, 16, during a raid on his Norfolk farm in 1999.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
