Homeward Bound

I’m a reader. I do not watch TV. I do not have cable. The wife and I have tried cable and we agree… it sucks. Books are much better, and cheaper.

Having said that, my favorite book series has been the ‘Deathlands’ series by ‘James Axler’.

‘Deathlands’ is what the USA is called after the nuclear war that started Jan 20, 2001. Remember that? I missed it too.

So, I’ve been reading this ‘Deathlands’ for several years now. Then, I found out that the SciFi Channel made a movie of the 5th book “Homeward Bound”. In it, Ryan (our ‘hero?’) goes home, kills his murderous brother, and sets his nephew on the throne. The movie stars Tracy Lords, of porn fame, as the wife of said murderous brother.

Gotta see that!

No. Can’t find it anywhere. Not available on DVD.

Finally, I searched YouTube for it. No luck either. But I did find this gem. Enjoy!

‘Preview is my friend’, as Macker would say. I neglected to mention that I searched YouTube for ‘Homeward Bound’. I got this, and several hits for the Simon & Garfunkel song. I’d completely forgotten Simon & Garfunkel.

Update alert: my webgallery has some new stuff.

A well deserved fisking

I just love it when the unhinged left drops it’s guard and shows the real face behind the mask.

This article will really piss you off. Please go and read it.

Now, if I wasn’t so darn tired, I’d rip this to shreds. Heck, any one of you could, and you’d feel better for it. It would be almost as cathartic as beating the snot out of the limp wristed stinky hippy who wrote this turd of an essay.

But let me save you the effort ... dear Mike Hendrix over at Cold Fury politely (well, mostly) takes this thing apart, piece by disgusting piece. Nice work. Yeah, I know, you were expecting a total rant by the Emperor. Sorry, not this time. Sometimes the brainy approach works better.

antipatriotic is a new term to me. Sounds a bit like DoubleSpeak. Bearing in mind that the attitude expressed by the stinky hippy in the first article here is shared by tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of your fellow citizens, all across the nation and especially on college campuses (you have been reading Malkin, right, as she has kept abreast of the whole “protest movement” against the military recruiters, including the “bicycle bomber” in Times Square the other day). “Antipatriotic” is about the nicest possible way to express the thought ... and yet, here we have famous Conservative writer Jonah Goldberg watching it all every day, and he doesn’t seem to get it. To him it’s a Patriotism Gap. A gap. Yeah, about 3200 miles wide.

Wish me luck!

In about an hour I’ll be off to my first ever Toastmasters meeting. I’ve been getting bi-weekly invites to the brand new United Republican Toastmasters group for over a year now.

I know what you are asking: Why did I get invites for over a year? Simple. I registered on my local GOP website so as to participate in the discussion forums.  Said forums died quickly. I’m certain that the Donks spammed the forums. (Maybe I should volunteer as a webmaster? The local GOP certainly needs someone who at least knows some basic html.)

Anyway, I’ve been considering accepting the invite for some time. Now is as good a time as any. I googled ‘Toastmasters’ and found their website, so at least I know what the goal is.

If anyone is interested, I’ll write up my experience over the weekend. Let me know in the comments.

cute commercial

Since it seems to be Video Day, here’s a link a friend sent me the other day. Two pets, left Home Alone, save the day because sooper-dooper brand pet food keeps them bright and alert. Like those fireworks safety ads, this is another one from the Netherlands. Is that where all the smart ad writers have moved to?

Bob Dole…John McCain…coincidence?

I’m no fan of John McCain. This man has no integrity. While under oath to ‘support and defend the Constitution’ he co-authored a bill that curtailed free speech. See McCain-Feingold.

But, since John is the ‘nominee’ (I question that, he was heir-apparent before I even got to vote here in Ohio… the primary system needs work. I wanted Duncan Hunter, backup was Mitt Romney. Both had dropped out by the time I got to vote.) we are supposed to rally around him. Why?

Not me. He’s got some explaining to do. I will support McCain to the extent that McCain has supported conservatism. I know, you are asking ‘since when did McCain support conservatism?’. A good question. The answer is, of course, that he hasn’t. He’s on the wrong side of illegal aliens, ‘gorebal warming’, free speech, and prosecuting the war against Islamic terror. Frankly, I can’t find any difference between McCain and any Democrat candidate. At least domestically. And I’m not so sure that a man who was so inept as to be shot down by North Vietnam is qualified to direct a war. He wants to shut down Gitmo and give these terrorists legal standing.

I’ve ranted enough. I found this on McCain’s website. I’m thinking of starting a webpage just to undermine him. It would have to be subtle of course.

McCainSpace

I’m certain that any McCainiacs will enjoy this.

While watching this, I was struck by the accent of the security guards. Are they ‘arabic’? Does a pink pig offend them?

DC to copy Boston’s Dumb Idea

D.C. Mayor, Police Chief Announce New Anti-Gun Plan: Door to Door Home Searches Without Warrants

A week before SCOTUS starts on Heller, Washington DC mayor Fenty announces that the city is going to enact it’s version of Boston’s “Safe Homes” plan. Fourth Amendment? We don’ need no steenkin Fourth Amendment!! That’s right, the DC plan, called the “Safe Homes Initiative” will have the local cops going door to door asking people if it’s Ok if they come in and search your house. No warrants. No Reasonable Cause. No reason at all, but they’ll ask nicely and say “pretty please”. In theory they’re only looking for illegal drugs and illegal firearms, and the whole thing is an “amnesty program”.

No word yet on whether these officers will be issued jackboots ahead of time. Is it true that all such “visits” will be conducted in the middle of the night?

Holly Shiite, we’ve become a police state. And there are people, thousands and thousands of people, who think this is a great idea.

D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) and Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced several new initiatives today aimed at combating gun crimes, including one encouraging residents to submit to voluntary searches of their homes in exchange for amnesty if the residents have illegal guns or drugs.

The “safe homes initiative” is aimed at residents, such as parents or guardians who know or suspect their children have guns in their home, who want to cooperate with police, Lanier said.

“If we come across illegal contraband, we will confiscate it,” Lanier said. “But amnesty means amnesty. We’re trying to get guns and drugs off the street.”

All seized guns will be tested to see whether they have been used in criminal activity. If they have, police may initiate a criminal investigation, Lanier said.

The program will begin March 24 in the Washington Highlands area of Southeast Washington, where officers will go door to door asking residents for permission to search their homes. It will then expand to other areas of the city.

In addition to the safe homes initiative, D.C. police are starting to hold monthly meetings with law enforcement partners to identify trends in gun-related crimes.

“We are not satisfied with the number of guns on the streets of the District of Columbia,” Fenty said.

This doesn’t seem like that big a story. But this is now the second city in the USA to enact such a plan in the last 4 months. That’s about the most frightening thing I’ve ever written. This isn’t an anti-gun initiative, it’s a Gestapo move against civil rights. I don’t care if your kid is a mess and you are the worst parent on the planet ... your kid; your problem. Deal. You do not let the cops play door-to-door daddy ever, because they’ll get used to that kind of power in one damned big hurry. Just say NO. Politely. Then close and bar the door. Then call your lawyer.

Jersey girl brought down New York Gov?

Gossip gossip ... wildfire story going around ... “Kirsten” identified as “Ashley Dupre”?

Hey it’s at the NY Times and at The Daily Telegraph, and at Page Six, so it has to be true. And valid news!

I’d put up the pic of Ms. D in her white bikini, but that would just be gratuitous. Let’s just say old Eliot may have overspent himself a bit on this “3 diamond” escort.

She left a broken home on the Jersey Shore at 17 and came to New York City to work the nightclubs as a rhythm and blues singer. Now, at 22, she is the unwitting, and as yet unseen, star of the seamy drama that is the downfall of Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York.

On Monday, she made a brief appearance in federal court as a witness in the case against four people charged with operating the prostitution ring, Emperor’s Club V.I.P. In a series of telephone interviews on Tuesday night, she said she had slept very little over the past week due to the stress from the case.

“I just don’t want to be thought of as a monster,” the woman said as she told the tiniest tidbits of her story.

In the affidavit, the woman known by the Emperors Club as Kristen is described as “an American, petite, very pretty brunette, 5 feet 5 inches, and 105 pounds.” She apparently was booked at about $1,000-an-hour, placing her in the middle of the seven-diamond scale by which Emperors prostitutes commanded up to $4,300 an hour.

Ms. Capalbo said that she was “shell-shocked” when her daughter called mid-last week and told her she had been working as an escort and was now in trouble with the law. She said she was not sure Ms. Dupre realized who Mr. Spitzer was when he was her client.

Poor little thing. And such a shame she no longer has a job. I guess she’ll just have to get by somehow with the millions she’s about to earn doing interviews for all the magazines and talk shows. Oh, and she sings too ... her myspace song and video have been played about 140,000 times. Just today. Hollywood, here she comes!

Here we go again

Ferraro Quits Clinton Campaign

FOXNEWS: Former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro is stepping down from Hillary Clinton’s finance team after remarks she made to a California newspaper suggested Barack Obama is getting favorable treatment in the media because he’s black.

FOX News confirmed Wednesday that Ferraro, who has been a fundraiser for Clinton, is leaving the campaign after calls from Obama’s team to restore civility by not letting the debate devolve into race-based arguments.

“The notion that it is a great advantage to me to be an African American named Barack Obama and pursue the presidency, I think, is not a view that has been commonly shared by the general public,”Obama said.

Oh bullshit. This is example #25619 that his candidacy is about little other than race. But speak the truth and be damned. Ferraro is utterly correct, thus she too has to go. You may not know this, but I made a blogging decision the other day, that I wanted the posts I put up to be at least half my own writing. But I’m going to have to break that rule here, unless you just want to read me swearing for the next several lines. It’s a crock people. It’s the contrapositive race card YET AGAIN. All the blacks are voting for Obama because he is black (kinda), and all the kiddies who have been raised under the “afro-aura” (which tells them constantly that anything and everything black is desirable, so they really should be black, act black, think black and should also actually feel bad that they aren’t) are behind him for the exact same reason. It’s all about the B. But don’t you dare mention that, or you get The Label, and we toss you outta the game.

Total hypocrites. It is not a great advantage. It is an ENORMOUS advantage. And so is his middle name. I think we should just think of him as Elliot Ness ... because he’s untouchable.

“I’m sorry I said nothing negative,” she told FOX News on Wednesday. “I care about the black vote in this country. I really don’t think this is right that they should attack me as racist.”

Former Maryland Lieutenant Gov. Michael Steele, who is black, said that Ferraro’s comments are true, and the fact she can’t speak them “goes to the heart and ugliness of racism.” He said Obama’s candidacy is not diminished by her words, but an oversensitivity is harming debate in America.

“It just speaks to the fact that race, no matter how you slice and dice it,” is all too present in people’s minds, he said.

See? I feel vindicated now that an actual black person has agreed with me. Sorta, mostly. Um, Steele hasn’t had his blackness revoked yet, has he? I mean lately. It’s so hard to stay current.

New Yon - go read it

Ok, Ok, I’m late for the party again. You’ve all probably read Michael Yon’s latest Discpatch from Iraq, Guitar Heroes that went up two days ago. It’s hard for me to be everywhere at once, but I try. So go and read it. It’s a great story of aerial swordfighting, our guys in helicopters against the Jihad Moes in the sandbox in and around Mosul. Pretty damned excellent job our Air Cav troops are doing, though I wish they had something a tiny bit more substantial than unarmored Kiowas and tiny Hellfire missiles to fight with.

For you gearheads ... here’s a photolink to the gunships image

and another photolink to the Hellfire missile image they’re using.

Mr. C. and I have been talking about that “more substantial” part, what with the Air Force being in the news quite a bit these past few days. Read Yon’s article and you’ll see that the downside to fighting a super precision war is using minimalist weapons, barely big enough to get the job done. A risk I don’t think we should be forcing our troops to take. I think it would be better, and probably a lot cheaper, to use more basic munitions that pack a bigger wallop. ("But what about collateral damage?” “Hey, almost no buildings within 100 yards of the target were destroyed. And PS - it’s a WAR, remember?") You’ll also notice that the M-4 “poodleshooter” carbine isn’t quite up to the task either.

CNN: Spitzer Will Resign Today

Breaking News: Spitzer to resign within minutes

ALBANY, New York (CNN)—New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer will resign Wednesday, his aides said, as he faces allegations—but no charges—that he is tied to an international prostitution ring ensnared in a federal probe. Spitzer’s resignation is contingent on the details of his transition being worked out, aides said.

Also, Spitzer’s lawyers were in discussions Wednesday with the U.S. attorney’s office in New York, trying to negotiate a plea deal to avoid prosecution, a source with knowledge of the discussions said.

Spitzer is scheduled to announce his resignation at 11:30 a.m. ET, a source close to the governor said. Spitzer will make a “brief statement,” according to his office. The news conference will be aired on CNN TV and CNN.com Live.

Both Republicans and Democrats were calling for him to leave office Tuesday.

“It is a ‘when’ question on the resignation, not an ‘if.’ He knows that,” a Democratic source said. “Eliot knows he cannot hold onto his job here. He might want to, but he is absolutely aware of his predicament.”

Guess he must have cut a deal after all.
