A Drop In The Bucket

There are approximately 11 million illegal aliens in the country today and more coming in every day. Of those, 600,000 have ignored deportation orders and 3,000 are sitting in prison for various crimes committed since they invaded - at least that’s the ones we actually know of.

Now the feds have managed to capture 761 of them and actually deport 450 in the last week. ICE is proud of the fact that they have managed to grab 13,192 illegals in the last nine months.

I’m sorry but the numbers just don’t add up. What the hell is our government up to if all they can do is grab a very, very small percentage (0.12%) of the illegals and send them home. It’s a pity the Internal Revenue Service isn’t that “efficient”.

No, I’ve about had it with the feds on this issue. They gave the illegals “amnesty” twenty years ago and 2 million invaders got to stay and become citizens at no extra charge. Now we’re back to square one - except there are more of them this time ... 9 million more than last time.

And what are our politicians doing about it? Well, John McCain and Teddy Kennedy want to grant them amnesty again. Democrats in Congress don’t give a damn because they are concentrating on nothing but driving Bush and the Republicans out of Washington. Republicans are wandering around in circles with their heads up their butts wondering how to get out of Iraq without losing all credibility.

Employers across the country are hiring the invaders with only a bare minimum background check and the invaders then take their pay and funnel it back to outside countries (most notably Mexico) to pay for more illegals to invade. The rich elite from Hollywood to the Hamptons don’t care - as long as they get their cheap maids and gardeners.

That is the sorry state we find ourselves in at the start of the 21st century here in America. Civil war between liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, outside insurgents pouring across the border to commit crimes and drain the economy ... the only thing that is missing is suicide bombers and IED’s and we’d be in the same boat as Iraq. Well almost ... at least the Iraqis have our military to help them.

Hundreds Deported After LA Sweep
LOS ANGELES - January 24, 2007, 8:46 AM EST

imageimageHundreds of illegal immigrants arrested over the past week in one of the biggest U.S. stings have been deported, but some are being held for possible criminal prosecution.

Federal authorities announced Tuesday the results of a weeklong series of raids in the Los Angeles metropolitan area that targeted illegal immigrants who had previously been deported for crimes or defied final deportation orders.

Of the 761 people arrested in a five-county region since Jan. 17, more than 450 have already been removed from the country, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

More than half of those arrested in the sweeps were already in jail and are being turned over to federal authorities as their sentences expire, an ICE official said. At least one person, however, was hit with a criminal case instead of being placed in civil deportation proceedings.

Erik Omar Galindo-Vazquez, a Mexican national taken in during the sweeps in Orange County, was charged with illegal re-entry to the United States after felony deportation—a federal crime than can carry up to 20 years in prison.

ICE officials said Galindo-Vazquez was deported in October 2005 after being detained in Arizona and was convicted six years earlier in Orange County for assault with a deadly weapon, a felony charge.

While federal law makes it a crime to enter the country illegally, only a fraction of the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants caught every year are ever prosecuted under criminal laws. There just aren’t enough agents, prosecutors and prison space.

So authorities go after serious offenders such as Galindo-Vazquez, whose rap sheets combine past deportations with convictions for crimes such as assault, murder and drug trafficking.

“We have to focus on the worst of the worst,” said Jim Hayes, director of the Los Angeles field office of ICE, whose agents are readying about 12 other cases for criminal prosecution stemming from the sweeps. “We can’t prosecute every single individual we come across.”

The raids made public Tuesday were a major push within Operation Return to Sender, a crackdown that has resulted in 13,192 arrests nationwide since late May. Immigration officials have also identified 3,000 inmates in state and local jails who will be deported.

An estimated 600,000 illegal immigrants who have ignored deportation orders are still at large, said Virginia Kice, an ICE spokeswoman.

Behind Bars

England’s prisons will only hold 80,000 criminals and with the prison population hovering around 76,000 lately, our Brit friends have decided to only jail “the most dangerous and persistent criminals” to keep society’s refuse from being cramped and uncomfortable while serving their sentence. The rest will have to be set free. Meanwhile, the 2,135,901 criminals in US prisons demand a recount ...

Limit Jail Sentences, Urges Reid
(BBC) - Wednesday, 24 January 2007, 02:14 GMT

Judges and magistrates are being reminded to jail only the most dangerous and persistent criminals. The home secretary and law chiefs have sent them a letter as the number of inmates in England and Wales hovers around the jail capacity of 80,000.

The government said the move was necessary before 8,000 more prison places are created this spring. It comes as the BBC learns Norwich jail is to reopen a wing declared “unfit” by inspectors because of cell shortages.

Up to 150 men are due back in ‘A wing’, days after it closed for refurbishment. The developments at Norwich Prison are a sign of how serious the overcrowding crisis has become, said BBC home affairs correspondent Danny Shaw.

With prisoner numbers back to pre-Christmas levels, the dilapidated wing is to be re-occupied. Meanwhile officials will advise Mr Reid if the prison population continues to increase he may have no alternative but to order the release of inmates nearing the end of their sentences, our correspondent said.

The letter from Mr Reid, Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer and Attorney General Lord Goldsmith said courts should not be “squandering taxpayers’ money to monitor non-dangerous and less serious offenders.”

Mr Reid said: “The public have a right to expect protection from violent and dangerous offenders. “Prisons are an expensive resource that should be used to protect the public and to rehabilitate inmates and stop them reoffending.”

Like A Good Neighbor?

imageimageQuiz: Carefully examine this picture of a former house on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Would you say the house is no longer there due to: (a) rising flood waters or (b) 150 mph winds?

If you guessed (a) then you are incredibly stupid or you work for State Farm Insurance - or both. State Farm has been refusing to pay insurance claims to people along the Gulf Coast, claiming their homes were wiped off the face of the Earth by flood damage and the people did not have flood insurance.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim hood stepped in and said, “Not so fast, Mr. Big Insurance!”, orders up grand jury and applies pressure. State Farm suddenly realizes their argument doesn’t hold water and agrees to fork over money to policy holders. Obviously greed had nothing to do with this, right?

In related news, State Farm announced today that in order to compete with the GEICO gecko and the AFLAC duck they have hired a weasel to be the new company spokesanimal.

Big Insurer Will Pay 640 Katrina Claims
(NY TIMES) - January 23, 1007

In a move that is expected to jump-start rebuilding along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, State Farm Insurance said yesterday that it had reached an agreement with state officials to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to owners of homes along the coast that were wrecked by Hurricane Katrina.

The agreement settles lawsuits filed by 640 homeowners and allows thousands of others to reopen damage claims that State Farm previously closed. Insurance executives said they expected the outlines of the deal to be adopted by other carriers.

The agreement does not apply to New Orleans, where the failure of the levees left much of the city underwater for days. Lawyers and insurers say no similar settlement talks are in progress there.

For State Farm, the nation’s largest home insurer and the biggest in Mississippi, the settlement allows for “a just, speedy and efficient resolution,” as a spokesman, Phil Supple, put it.

It would also remove a major public relations headache. While State Farm and the other insurers may have had some strong legal arguments, they have been widely perceived as insensitive. In many cases, residents whose houses were reduced to concrete slab foundations received just a few thousand dollars in payments. Some received nothing.

Under the settlement, 300 homeowners who lost everything will receive their full insurance coverage. Mississippi officials said 1,000 others would receive at least half, with the opportunity to negotiate for more.

“A lot of people on the coast are going to see money in their pockets sooner, rather than have to go through a long, drawn-out process of court proceedings,” Mississippi’s insurance commissioner, George Dale, said yesterday.

The core of the dispute was whether the damage to the houses was caused by high winds or surging floodwaters as Hurricane Katrina swept across the coast on Aug. 29, 2005. The insurers said their policies covered only wind damage. But in many cases, they also refused to pay for damage caused by a combination of wind and water.

The settlement does not affect the terms of coverage in the insurers’ policies, but some insurance experts said they expected that the carriers would ultimately rewrite their policies to specifically bar coverage of damage from storm surges.

In the settlement talks, which began last fall, State Farm insisted that the Mississippi attorney general, Jim Hood, drop a criminal investigation of the company’s handling of storm damage claims. It also demanded that he abandon a civil suit against it and other insurers.

The final sticking point in the agreement had been over the framing of a few sentences that would end the criminal investigation. Mr. Hood convened a grand jury last week that began hearing evidence.

Well ... yes.

Web Site Kicks Sand In Faces of GIs In Iraq Asking
For Mats To Ease Hardship Of Sleeping On Ground

(FOX NEWS) - Tuesday, January 23, 2007

imageimageAn American GI assigned to one of the harshest posts in Iraq had a simple request last week for a Wisconsin mattress company: send some floor mats to help ease the hardship of sleeping on the cold, bug-infested ground.

What he got, instead, was a swift kick from the company’s Web site, which not only refused the request but added insult to injury with the admonition, “If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq.”

Army Sgt. Jason Hess, stationed in Taji, Iraq, with the 1st Cavalry Division, said he emailed his request to Discount-mats.com because he and his fellow soldiers sleep on the cold ground, which contains sand mites, sand flies and other disease carriers.

In his email, dated Jan. 16, 2007, he asked the Web-based company, registered to Faisal Khetani, an American Muslim of Pakistani descent:

“Do you ship to APO (military) addresses? I’m in the 1st Cavalry Division stationed in Iraq and we are trying to order some mats but we are looking for ships to APO first.”

On the same day, Hess received this reply:

SGT Hess,

Request Denied We do not ship to APO addresses, and even if we did, we would NEVER ship to Iraq. If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq.

Bargain Suppliers
Discount-Mats.com

Khetani on Monday told FOX News that the person responsible for the email reply had been fired. The Web site, meanwhile, has been temporarily taken down.

Hess emailed that he has since found two mat suppliers willing to ship to an APO address in Iraq.

Quote Of The Day

See that big bruise on Monkey Man’s forehead? Al-Qaeda chimps have spread the story that it is due to “years of praying to Allah in the preferred position with the head on the ground in submission to the will of Allah.” I can buy that. Monkey Man has obviously banged his head on the concrete way too many times.

I just love it when he goes into “Baghdad Bob” mode like this. I really miss Bob. I wonder what he’s up to nowadays now that he’s lost his day job as Saddam’s mouthpiece? Come back, Bob! We miss your imagination and phrases like “American soldiers will roast in the stomachs of hell.” Ahh ... those were the days.

imageimage“I ask [Bush], why send 20,000 only — why not send 50 or 100 thousand? Aren’t you aware that the dogs of Iraq are pining for your troops’ dead bodies?”

“So send your entire army to be annihilated at the hands of the mujahideen (holy warriors) to free the world from your evil, because Iraq, land of the Caliphate and Jihad, is able to bury ten armies like yours, with Allah’s help and power.”

“Among his (Mr. Bush’s) ravings is that he has deprived al Qaeda of a safe haven in Afghanistan. The entire world bears witness to his naked, barefaced lie, because al Qaeda and the Taliban under the command of the Commander of the Faithful Mulla Muhammad Omar are the ones who have deprived America of safe haven in Afghanistan.”

“It is the duty of every Muslim today to bear arms, or to serve and support those who are bearing arms,” he said. “Every Muslim today is directly responsible for defending Islam, Islams homeland, and the Islamic Nation.”

-- Al Qaeda deputy leader, Ayman al-Zawahri (Chief Monkey Propaganda Minister)

State Of The Union: Condensed Version

image

First of all, we need to take note of the fact that Democrats are already issuing their rebuttals before the speech. It’s what is called a PRE-buttal ... with emphasis on the “butt” part:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Emboldened congressional Democrats did their best Tuesday to drown out President Bush’s State of the Union message, making clear that Bush and his Republican allies are no longer in charge of national policy, especially on Iraq.

“They don’t have a plan,” freshman Democratic Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia told reporters in a preview of his party’s response to Bush’s speech later in the evening. “What they have put on the table is more a tactical adjustment.”

Democrats haven’t agreed on a plan for Iraq either, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the burden of finding a solution rests on the White House. “The president is the commander in chief. We don’t have the authority” to execute a plan for bringing American troops home from Iraq, Reid said.

Their comments were the Democrats’ effort to have the first, most frequent and last words on the president’s annual address, which Bush will deliver in the most unfriendly congressional environment of his tenure.

In case that hadn’t yet sunk in, Democrats launched a five-day series of speeches with an address to the National Press Club Friday titled, “The State of Our Union.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi even appropriated the key line in any president’s annual speech. “The state of our union is strong,” she told the audience.

Every day since then, the Democrats have hammered home the message that achieving bipartisanship must be as much a part of Bush’s agenda as proposals on the war, energy independence and health care must be colored with bipartisan goodwill. “It will be clear to us whether he’s ready to work cooperatively to do that or if he’s saying, ‘I’m the decider,’” said Pelosi, quoting Bush’s famous retort on Iraq.

Webb said he’s already dismissed Bush’s plan for a short-term surge of troops into Iraq. “I don’t particularly view this surge program as a change in strategy at all,” said freshman Democratic Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia, the Vietnam veteran chosen to deliver his party’s response to Bush’s speech Tuesday night.

“I don’t see it as strategic, other than perhaps politically strategic,” Webb said in a conference call Monday with reporters. “It’s just a lot more flailing around rather than coming up with something specific that’s going to end our involvement and bring better stability to the region.”

As for the speech later tonight, President Bush plans to offer several things we need to fix:

Administration officials said Monday that among Mr. Bush’s proposals would be a plan to help states provide health care coverage to people who lack insurance by diverting federal aid from hospitals, especially public institutions. The provision is likely to draw loud criticism from municipalities across the nation and will significantly affect the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the nation’s largest municipal health care system.

Officials said Mr. Bush’s speech would include proposals to address the nation’s energy needs and global warming, partly by promoting the use and development of alternative fuels. He is also expected to renew his call for an overhaul of immigration law and to propose altering tax policies to help the uninsured.

On health care, Mr. Bush is trying to drive the debate through plans that would not cost the federal government additional money at a time when the White House is committed to showing a plan to balance the budget. This weekend, the administration sketched out a proposal under which people whose health care programs exceed a certain value would face a higher tax bill, with the revenue going to tax incentives to encourage the purchase of health coverage by lower-income people.

The Democrats will then sic their attack dog on the President after the speech:

Giving the Democratic rebuttal will be Senator Jim Webb, Democrat of Virginia, whose son is serving in Iraq and who reported having a tense exchange with Mr. Bush at the Congressional Christmas party. The audience in the House chamber is expected to include the actor Michael J. Fox, who has become the face of the movement to overcome Mr. Bush’s objections and increase federal financing for stem cell research.

Labor unions and hospitals are already screaming over the proposals:

Labor leaders were outspoken in opposing the plan. “This is a wrongheaded, crazy proposal,” said Gerald M. Shea, assistant to the president of the A.F.L.-C.I.O. “It would throw into turmoil the employment-based system of health insurance, and it would impose a new tax on the middle class.”

Several public health officials reacted with alarm to Mr. Bush’s plan to encourage states to take Medicaid money now earmarked for public hospitals and use it for state programs to cover the uninsured. The Bush administration proposes cutting Medicaid payments to public hospitals and other “safety net” providers by $3.9 billion over the next five years. Preliminary estimates suggest that 40 percent of the savings would come at the expense of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, which operates 11 hospitals, 4 nursing homes and more than 80 community clinics.

Finally, the NY TIMES wants you to know Bush’s approval ratings are lower than any President except two:

According to a CBS News poll conducted Thursday through Sunday, 28 percent of Americans approve of the way the president is handling his job, and more than twice as many, 64 percent, disapprove. It is the lowest approval rating the president has received in a CBS News poll, though it is statistically little different from the rating of 30 percent he received earlier this month.

Only Jimmy Carter has received a lower approval rating, 26 percent, in 1979, in surveys conducted by CBS News or its polling partner, The New York Times. In a Gallup poll conducted in August 1974, just before his resignation, Richard M. Nixon had a 24 percent approval rating.

Got all that? If not, you can read the rest at the NY TIMES or you can stay up tonight and watch the speech and the Official Bush-Bashing Party which will begin shortly thereafter and more than likely continue until November of 2008. These are the times that try men’s souls.

An Inconvenient Oscar

The Oscar nominations are out and the list consists of the usual Hollywood crap (with very few exceptions). One of the most ridiculous nominees this year is the one for Best Documentary. I seem to have been mistaken in thinking that a documentary was supposed to be non-fiction ....

Al Gore ‘Thrilled’ by Oscar Nominations
NEW YORK (AP) - Jan 23 11:15 AM US/Eastern

Who says politics is show business for ugly people? “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore’s film on the perils of global warming, scored two Oscar nominations Tuesday - for best documentary feature and best original song.

While he is not technically a nominee - the film’s director, David Guggenheim, won the nod, as did singer Melissa Etheridge for the song “I Need to Wake Up” _ Gore said he was “thrilled” that his movie was honored.

“The film ... has brought awareness of the climate crisis to people in the United States and all over the world,” Gore said in an e-mail statement. “I am so grateful to the entire team and pleased that the Academy has recognized their work. This film proves that movies really can make a difference.”

Aides say the former vice president plans to walk the red carpet with Hollywood’s beautiful people at the Academy Awards ceremony next month. “An Inconvenient Truth” has been a critical and box office success, bringing in more than $24 million to make it the third highest- grossing documentary in history. A companion book has been on national best-seller lists for months.

Other films nominated for best documentary feature include “Deliver Us From Evil,” about the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church; “Iraq in Fragments,” about the Sunni-Shiite conflict in that country; “Jesus Camp,” about a summer camp for evangelical Christians, and “My Country, My Country,” about the months leading up to the January 2005 elections in Iraq.

“Hollywood is where they shoot too many pictures and not enough actors.”

-- Walter Winchell

“The Magnificent Tail of Comet McNaught”

Comet McNaught, the Great Comet of 2007, has grown a long and filamentary tail. The spectacular tail spreads across the sky and is visible to Southern Hemisphere observers just after sunset. The head of the comet remains quite bright and easily visible to even city observers without any optical aide. The amazing tail is visible on long exposures and even to the unaided eye from a dark location. Reports even have the tail visible just above the horizon after sunset for many northern observers as well. Comet McNaught, estimated at magnitude -2 (minus two), was caught by the comet’s discoverer in the above image just after sunset last Friday from Siding Spring Observatory in Australia. Comet McNaught, the brightest comet in decades, is now fading as it moves further into southern skies and away from the Sun and Earth.

Quote Of The Day

Never let it be said that Democrats who suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS) have a lack of imagination. In fact you could say their skills at creating visual imagery that could literally kill your appetite in an instant is almost uncanny. Perhaps this is their way of helping solve the obesity epidemic in America?

“BUSH makes me literally ill. the bile is rising up in my stomach as we speak .... I wish I could race into bush’s office and vomit all over his face. I wish I could stand over him and puke and gag and wretch until nothing but the last nasty drop of yellowish green bile runs down his ugly hate filled face, off his chin and down over his suit.”

World Economy Primer

Defintion: The GDP of a country is defined as the market value of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time. It is also considered the sum of value added at every stage of production of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time.

GDP = consumption + investment + government spending + (exports − imports)

Have you ever wondered how the United States compares to the rest of the world in terms of economics and GDP? Well, Norwegian blogger Carl Størmer and Dispatches From TJICistan blog have done the work for us. Taking data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank and matching it up to statistics from the Bureau of Economic Analysis at the US Department Of Commerce, they came up with this handy map comparing the Gross State Product (GSP) of the individual states in the US to the GDP of countries around the globe with equal figures.

You may notice that four major countries are missing from the map: Japan, Germany, China and the United Kingdom. That is because those four countries’ GDP can only be compared to more than one state. China compares to the entire West Coast. Japan to the entire Midwest and most of the West, Germany to the Southeast and the UK to the Northeast.

Here in Missouri, we make as much money and are worth as much as the entire country of Poland. Oddly enough, poor ol’ Alabama (my home state) is worth as much as Iran. That coupled with the fact that there are four active nuclear power plants in Alabama and the seventh largest army in the world is the Alabama National Guard should give you an idea of what we can do. It should also serve to convince the Mad Mullahs that their status in the overall scheme of things is next to worthless ... compared to the Heart Of Dixie. Yeehaw!
