  1. That’s quite a breakwater in the bay there.

    Y’know, I know just about nothing about Cape Town, or South Africa, aside from the rare and occasional bit I pick up from Kim DuToit or a novel by Wilbur Smith. Yet it’s the most successful country in sub-Saharan Africa, highest GDP, most freedom, major trading partner with the USA and UK, etc. And that’s with things having gone downhill post-apartheid.

    I gather their Castle beer is really great, the brandy too if you can get it, and that one of those piles of rock in the picture is called Tabletop Mountain. I’m old enough that we learned “Marching to Praetoria” in music class in grade school, and that about covers all I know about the Boer War other than that Churchill was in it. Sort of.

    Feeling like an isolationist niave American, again.
