The Surge is Working

  1. If anyone can succeed at this it is Gen. Petraeus. He worked his magic in Mosul (which thanks to the media - no one knows) and Mosul only developed issues after the 101st left. He is successful because he grasps the Iraqi ‘way’ of doing things and works within that mindset. As a result the Iraqis tend to be more willing to work with him - it is simple respect and understanding. Too bad he was the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assualt) Commander in 2003 and not the OIF commander - perhaps we would not be where we are now.

Of course, Iraq was not/is not the caldron of terroristic violence that the msm would have America believe - just as the looting did not turn out to be all of the historical valuables and most have been recovered, just as these ‘insurgents’ are turning out not to be Iraqis against us but mostly Syrians and Iranians - 14 provinces of Iraq are stable and functioning without daily mayhem and violence, 4 are the issue. . . the msm has never wanted to tell the truth about OIF since about 2 weeks into it.

What a shame - and is it any wonder that we are struggling 4 years into the War with part of country determined to ignore the truth?

  2. Gen. Petraeus is a good egg. We need to give him all the troops he needs to do the job. We need to build up the military in order to have more troops at the ready when we need them. That is why I am for the draft at this point.

GW is making what seems to be good changes, now that he sometime makes changes. Would any of the readers of BMEWS really want Rumsfeld back in place of Gates? He is an Aggie and I am a Longhorn, but he seems to be doing a hell of a job.

I hope that GW keeps up the new management style and good work. The GOP could win my heart back yet. Adios Alberto Gonzales. Hasta la vista Karl Rove. Sometimes you need to let a few heads roll, even if they are your old buddies from Texas.

Change can be a good thing. Does anyone really miss seeing Tom DeLay’s name in the headlines every day?

  3. Ah Yellow I disagree on a couple. Rumsfeld wasn’t the whole problem - as is Rove. They just are the lightening rods for the left/media/dems. The problem with canning them is one - it gives the left/media/dems power they don’t deserve. And it does not appease them - the current administration is proof positive that diplomacy does not work in every case.

Every step conceeded just gets their juices flowing to go after another and another. That is not the point. What is the point is America, what is best politically for America both domestically and in the World. Sorry but a more stable Middle East is better for America and the World in the long run. And while Eurostan might be willing to appease and diplomancy (just how does the oil for food kickback scandel work into the success of that same said diplomacy and/or control of the Saddam regime?!?) - Iraq was the better choice than really starting a ‘pre-emptive’ war with the real instigator of all of the mid east turmoil - Iran.

Imagine where we would be right now if that had happened -

You see, you just have to look for the good points in what is going on - it is what I had to do for the utterly wasted 8 years of the Clinton administration - and the only time I called Clinton a liar was, when he was talking about one of his serial sex offenses. Because I knew he was lying. A nobody does not come forward with an accusation like that just because. . .despite what the dems claim, although are they really implying that they do it all the time, which is why they accuse the repubs of doing it?

  4. Mr Christian,

Thanks and keep up the good work preaching the good news the MSM ignores. I am a reservist and have lots of friends over there...this is their main complaint. Bloggers like us need to continue to talk about the positive things that are happening...and have been happening since day 1.

The “surge” hasn’t even really started yet and just the change in tactics is what you are seeing working. It takes 2 to 4 months to get a “surge” completed.

Also I hate the word “surge” because it implies we will have more troops than before...we will still have less than we had in Dec 05...after this recent “surge.”

  5. Oh no, they might win the war before we can ensure that they lose it! (secret memo from the dhimmies to each other in the dead of night)
