  1. (Requisition one rocket propelled chainsaw, aim, start engine and launch when ready).

Geez, I have recently bought a place down in western NC, to escape from the northeastern commie-lib-pink-panty-wearing-pablm-puking-bed-wetting-moonbat-lunacy of NE, which has fallen under the evil influences of the Kennedy-Kerry Masshole cabal, and now the Great Tarheel State is also falling under the hypnotic zombie-voodoo spell of the same evil crowd, perhaps I should have chosen the Ukraine or Latvia, at least, in those nations, they seem to have an appreciation for freedom and independent thinking, after suffering through 75 years of Sovietism

Hot-dam, now hows THAT for a run-on sentence

(we need a rocket propelled chainsaw smiley here)

  3. Rat - you must go see this -

I sent Sen. Inhofe an email for having the courage to speak the Truth. It is a shame our msm choses only to focus on Sen. Boxer’s verbal put down of Sen. Inhofe (and explain to me, why every time a Dem comments of late, it includes some form of ‘we are the majority’’you don’t have the majority’ putdown? To me that is childish, immature and completely not bi-partisan nor civil) Oh well - I expect no less from them but it is still a disgrace.

Your pic is disgusting but oh so true.

Until Americans (the real Americans) stand up and take back control - this is just going to keep happening again and again.

We bought a few of these super magic bulbs - mostly from the cost aspect. Let’s just say I’m not impressed and given Rush Limbaugh’s ‘if you drop one and it breaks, you have to call hazmet in’ comment - they do have issues one would think that the enviro-wackos themselves would have serious problems with.

But - their ‘intentions’ are good. We must remember that.
    LOL

  4. When these cute little curlicue bulbs first came out, a couple of people that I worked with were going on and on about how everyone had to get them to save money on their electric bill, save the environment, yada, yada.  At the time they were very pricey, about $10 each.  So I made up a spreadsheet to compare energy savings vs. life of the bulb, cost to replace, cost of electricity, expected rate increases, and so on.  When I got through, I showed it to these enviropansies and it shut them up for a while.  Turns out it would take 7 to 9 years to pay for the price of the bulbs in electricity saved, assuming the bulbs would last that long.  I have not had one yet that made it past 2 years.

And wardmama, I agree with the hazmat aspect.  A regular light bulb has glass and a little metal.  These compact things have circuitry involved.  A great addition to the landfills.

  5. John I believe they also contain mercury vapour. Mind you I have read that tungsten in the future will become scarce so maybe we should stock up on regular bulbs!
I recently read a report that the gains in using low energy bulbs are non existent for some uses. For example incandescent bulbs are lousy at converting electricity to light. However, they are pretty good at generating heat. If you replace them with fluorescents you lose the “waste heat” which in the winter you will have to make up somewhere else by burning more energy. So there is no real gain. Oh and as John C points out it will take years to recoup the outlay.....

  6. Yes the mercury is why Rush made the hazmet remark. As I said, I am not impressed. Typical of liberal do-gooder crap. It creates more problems than it solves, is rushed in without study or proper research and yet, they never ever say - Sorry, my bad or (gasp) I was WRONG.
[my fav is nutra sweet - funny how since it got forced, oops approved - obesity is now a #1 problem in America - but with zero calories how can that be?!? Another lying scam that will probably not only not solve the problem it was intended too, but be revealed to have caused a lot more (like maybe autism rates? alzheimers? parkinson? cancer?) who knows because true scientific research is poo pooed most of the time, in favor of doctored and manipulated research just to make a buck while making ‘the masses’ feel good about themselves.

  7. I’ve had these twister bulbs go into Chernobyl Meltdown Mode, they stink, fizzle and drip obnoxious goop, and can start a fire.  An incandescent bulb just goes “flash” and it’s a clean demise, without all of he aromatic effects and fire hazards.

The only thing “green” about these damned things is the excess money one has to spend on them.

  8. Haven’t had problem with those lights.  I replaced the conventional light bulbs in the master bathroom (all 16 of them - 8 on my side and 8 for my Lovely Bride) because of the heat they generated.  Yeah, the light is a little strange, but what do I need to shave my ugly mug and brush my teeth?

I’ve put additional ones in places where we tend to leave the lights on for extended periods of time.  Outside over the back deck, out front by the door—it doesn’t get that cold in San Antonio, so they seem to work fine.

How much are we saving?  Beats me, but I notice I’m not replacing them as often as the conventional bulbs.  So far, the current batch has lasted 4 years.

All that aside, what we should resent is the jack-booted Greenies forcing us to use them.  If they really work well, market forces will serve to encourage their use.  We is it that these so-called free thinkers who hate government are always so ready to use government to force their opinions on every one else?

I remain a heavily armed pacifist who continues to gather military caliber ammunition.

  9. Hmmm, the wife was a lighting engineer back in the early 90’s.  You’ve got to buy the warm version of the bulbs or you wind up with the weirdest bluest tint you’ve ever seen, this side of a head shop.  They don’t work very well if it is cold.  Try they don’t work at all when the temperature hovers around -20F. I got rid of them because I don’t like changing out lights.  Something that burns for even a couple good years is better than dragging out a ladder to just change the damned burned out bulbs.

  10. Wonder if Gore-bachev is invested in a compact bulb company as he is in a carbon credits company? Change the law, make us do it and pay him as well. Great scam.

  11. Hee, hee, hee - found this via Michelle Malkin - does make a point about how stupid the carbon offset scam is:

    http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/005811.html

I think we should have a contest for the BEST offset scam ever - make a real point to Al Gore how stupid we think he is - btw I am not the only one asking if he is going to give credits (i.e money) to those of us who have carbon negative footprints.
