  1. If it weren’t for a couple of tv shows - the lying eye would never be seen in our house (I like CSI and Numbers). What angers me about Rathergate is that he should have been fired - it just shows that the whole network news there is skewed. I still never understood why the entire National Guard did not stand up to him and others who claim that serving in the Guard is ‘avoiding’ the draft.

I’ve never watched their morning show and feel that the fluff twins have destroyed the Today Show. I don’t get this vitrolic attitude toward this President and this War. The comparisons to Vietnam should stop with this little point:

It was Dems - Kennedy/Johnson that got us involved in Vietnam and lied to escalate our involvement . . .and the anti-war movement/media (assisted with an actual crime/coverup by the sitting administration) that took the Repubs down - - after the anti-war movement actually helped get Nixon elected (and his ‘men’ committed a crime and he coverered it up) which is how the story ends

Fast forward to now Bush 1 got us involved/Bush 2 ‘lied’ to escalate the involvement in the war . . .does that mean that the anti-war movement/meda will take down the next administration (Dem)? These idiots are forgetting two key points:

You can’t travel the path of a ‘equating’ a current issue to a past one without taking all aspects of it into account and

once again, the definition of mental illness is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting different results.

Actually I really do believe that these people suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome - which being mentally/emtionally ill - is just another reason that they should not be running the country, in charge of the news/media or writing books.

  2. Your generosity is touching.  I don’t think I could be so kind.

I had never examined the end of the Rather-era from the perspective that a biased narcissist, manipulating the news for his own ends might provide an object lesson in how NOT to behave.  One can hope that the lesson becomes lore in the new generation of what I hope will be ‘true’ journalists.

Honestly, following the announcement of Dan’s booting, I felt the same sort of relief one feels when Animal Control shoots a rabid dog.  Sorry for the dog, but relieved that the disease is gone.

Already I have heard the expression “Mapes alert” muttered following a particularly pungent feminist tirade.  Perhaps bad, biased news reporting will be referred to as having been “Rathered”?  Maybe traitorous, cowardly, deranged speech will be tagged as “Muthified” or “Kerryized”?

  3. Tragically guys I don’t think it will be this generation that reforms unless it is when they are our ages. . .looking at Brittany Spears crying on tv because of the papparazi - when in actuality it is the very same papparazi that keeps her image and name in front of the adoring fans, the idiots at the left blogs (and MM) who are college dropouts and making money and again - image and name in front of the adoring public with lies, false lies and damn lies . . . Nope it’s going to be either the fall of America or these spoiled ipodettes growing up and actually having to make a buck and pay a bill - that will bring about the change.

I am more scared of this ‘my view, belief, speech’ is more important than anyone else’s even when it is proven to be a lie . . . well ___________is/was true, so that’s the point. Not even realizing if the facts don’t support your view, statement or belief, it isn’t true. No matter how hard you claim it to be.

Rather didn’t get that, Michael Moore never gets it and the daily kos guy doesn’t get it. They spew and gaily go on their way (laughing at all the idiots who bought ‘it’ on the way to the bank). I find more offense in this bunch making money (and lots of it) than Exxon, Enron or Haliburton - at least someone, somewhere is actually getting something for their money with the ‘evil’ corporations. These guys are making big bucks on lies, hot air and self adoration.

  4. The only anchor I have ever seen tear up on the air over the dems losing an election.

  5. You mention his rise during the Kennedy shooting. I most remember ‘Gunga Dan’ reporting from somewhere in Afghanistan during the Soviet attempt to do what the US did in several weeks. Seemed to me he was always trying to give the Soviets a fixed target. ‘course ‘Gunga Dan’ would be long away to the next scene…
