  1. OCM, we are all tired of it. It’s become a drain on the whole damn planet.

Ronald Reagan would have put paid to these screwballs in a week. Little Bush didn’t do a damn thing. Obama? Puh-leez. Margaret Thatcher would have given them a large taste of the old boomstick as well. The EU navies are playing catch ‘n release. WTF.

No ocean patrol solution is going to work. Eventually the military might of the world will have to bear down on these mooks and fry them. Until then ... I will keep posting on the hijackings. This is what PC brings us. The entire world is afraid to act, primarily because the pirates are “downtrodden victims”. And black? It’s a tiresome “mouse that roared” situation, but the cats seem to be loosing. Go figure.

There is rampant piracy in Indonesia as well. If they expand a bit west, then pretty soon the entire Indian ocean will be one giant watery ghetto neighborhood with muggers everywhere. Then what?

  2. Then what you ask?
Why,,,my popcorn moment will happen even sooner than I could hope.
And I dont have any idea in what shape or form it will happen, but it will happen.
My odds get better every day.Somali pirates, Iranian nut jobs and their goon squads tossin daily threats at the Isreali’s, countries going bankrupt, drug gang wars on our border.Everywhere I look in the news and on the net the clutter and the tension gets tighter and thicker and,,,ooops.
    My popcorn moment!
Maybe I should order a pizza to tide me over during the flaming part,Oh, and a litre of Coke too!!

  3. I know I’m just thinking like a girl - but if ships don’t go there - can the pirates pirate? They don’t seem to me to be all that ocean faring - so go another route - they don’t get to pirate and your company/country doesn’t pay for passage.

I can’t believe that the World allows itself to be held hostage by a bunch of thugs (oh, wait my bad, I completely forgot about the UN) - strike that last comment.

So given the volcano story of this past week - not to mention the how many earthquakes of the recent past - What is going to get the World first?:

Radical Islamic Terrorists (oops I did it again)

    or

God & Mother Nature joining forces to say - Stupid Little Humans - don’t mess with God or Mother Nature - We rule and you don’t.

  4. That’s a good idea OCM, but the reality is that there are at least 8 of those lanes across the Indian Ocean already. At least two “safe corridors” that are heavily patrolled already exist out of the Gulf of Aden. About 3 weeks ago a ship was hijacked in that corridor. Add in a tremendous amount of coastal trading; small ships that bop from port to port from South Africa all the way up and around to India and over and down to Indonesia and Australia. Not to mention the fishing fleets that have to go wherever the fish are. Even worse, that ocean has thousands of little islands, many of which produce coconut products like copra. So there are medium ships going all over the place all the time. And tens of thousands of little boats and small ships everywhere. It’s the Third World’s ocean. Then when monsoon season comes around, everyone has to find alternate routes.

Wardmama, you are. Stop that! The point of this article was that the pirates are now doing their naughty twice as far out as they have in the past. So they are quite ocean faring. And now that I’ve had a while to think about it, I doubt Mr. Tavanapong is even going to get a ransom demand. His 3 fishing vessels are just the right size to be new motherships for the pirates. Which means his crews are dead, or will be.

  5. Drew: That’ll piss off the Star Trek Freaks out there! Now, as to the Somali Pirates...y’all know how I feel, so perhaps I no longer need to say it! cool smile
