  1. There’s nothing wrong with winning the lottery if you can actually keep things in perspective.  Unfortunately, the people who can handle having that kind of money aren’t the people who waste money playing the lottery.

  2. The Lottery is a gold mine for the State.

Stupid people play the Lottery.  It’s simply the State taking advantage of citizens.

  3. Sudden large wealth isn’t the blessing we think it is.  Indiana offers counselling for big winners. They should take it.

  4. We just had a lottery winner from Illinois shot in Florida.

His niece and her 17-year-old boyfriend shot him because he wasn’t giving enough to them. gun

  7. Yep, I call it the “idiot tax” when I play it.

Things even went to hell for that guy in WVa who won a big pot a while ago and he was already a self made millionaire.

Perhaps if people understood the odds vis a vis the payout they’d take another look at state numbers games and lotteries and give them a pass. Although when they get to hundreds of millions of dollars in a pot it’s tempting for many. I know that I’ll risk throw away a couple of bucks on the 27,000,000:1 shot occasionally.

Should I hit the big one I think I’d endow a “pay it forward” sort of education grant. Pay it forward would obligate the recipient to sponsor somebody else’s education once they had made good in the world. Seems reasonable to me. I think I got the idea of “pay it forward” from Robert Heinlein.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not completely altruistic, I’d have some fun, indulge myself with a Jaguar and such. I’d just try not to do stupid stuff. Certainly not “copious amounts”.
