History: Sixty Years Ago Today

 

1. I recall hearing that one of the condemned, when going to the gallows, gave the nazi salute and shouted “heil Hitler”. He apparently twitched more than the others and took longer to die when dropped by the trap. When the hangman was asked about this he said: “I choked the sonovabitch.” Do NOT piss off the hangman.

2. Sorry, Bob. The ACLU was founded sometime in the 1920’s and was openly Communist. That’s probably why they didn’t support the Nazis at the trials. Of course, I’m sure they supported them when Stalin and Hitler were allies but that all went by the boards with the opening of the “Eastern Front”. Then again, Charles Lindbergh supported them before Pearl Harbor. He had a nice cup of STFU after that though.

3. Mark Twain said that history does not repeat, but it rhymes.  See “Judgement at Nuremberg” if you haven’t lately.  Check out the cast, too.  Unlikely actors do great jobs. Judy Garland, William Shatner.
