  1. I know this is a bit nit-picky, and probably way out of line, but WHAT THE FIDDLY-FUCK KIND DID YOU BUY, DAMMIT! DETAILS!

    Heh.

That is kinda weird, buyin’ a firearm over the Innertubes.

Hey! We can tease the libtards by sayin’, “Oh? You surf? You mean you use that thing gun buyers use to buy all their death-dealing guns?! Eeewww!

  2. Oh ho, trying to ruin my surprise, eh?

Not that it’s really a secret. I did my research, and found what I think is the best made, most rock solid reliable, smallish handgun out there for a reasonable MSRP. Then I went through twenty hundred different places to buy one (never finding any, or only a well used older one with the lesser chambering) until I found a place online that had dozens for sale from several dealers for a variety of prices. I chose the dealer with the best price for NIB. I didn’t wind up getting the micro-mouse-gun I was thinking of at first; instead I found a fairly small but not itty-bitty one that my wife, who has small hands, can handle with ease, and practice with extensively, with no worries about the gun ever wearing out or the gun shooting too low or even worrying about rust if it should happen to get damp. And no matter how hot a batch of ammo I feed the thing (158gr JFPs ahead of 18gr of L’il Gun is going to be a handful!!!), I know I will never have to worry about the strength of the pistol.

There. That’s a TOTAL giveaway to any gunny reading this. Make, model, barrel length, caliber, and even the kind of metal it’s made from. Given that deduction, they should be able to quickly figure out where I bought it from and for how much, so they can write back and tell me how they would’ve got theirs for only a third as much because they know a guy who knows a guy who’s sister’s friend’s cousin needed a kidney operation and her husband had a whole garage full of these he was selling at a flea market to raise money. That kinda shit happens all the time, but never to me!

Everybody else can guess, or wait a few days until I get it and take pictures.  I actually hadn’t planned on being sneaky like this, but Steamy made me realize this is too good an opportunity to waste. Thanks Steamy! LOL

  3. cool

Yessir, I too have bought a gun over the Internet.I purchased a .41 magnum Ruger Blackhawk (1970s vintage) from an online dealer in Missouri whose name rhymes with “Gummit Sun”.

The ignorant hoplophobes think, “Wow, they shipped it to your house, huh?” No, the revolver was still a controlled item, and had to be picked up from a local FFL in Virginia.

But wait: In honor of Buy a Gun Day, I finally used my Curio & Relic license and did receive—through the mail—my Yugoslav SKS (technically a Model 59/66A1) in 7.62 x 39mm. It’s an excellent grade gun and looks brand new. Thank you, Samco Global of Miami, FL.

Keep up the good work—I get a big kick out of BMEWS. flag

  5. Good going Drew.  Congrats on your new purchase.  I look forward to the post where you give us pictures once it arrives at its new home!  smile

  6. Drew.

I walked into my local toy store last week to ask if they could order a Ruger LCP .380 auto.
The lady turned around and picked a used one up off the shelf and it looked as though it had never been fired. For $50 bucks under retail, I thought it was my lucky day. I bought the gun but, THEY HAD NO AMMO!! The owner of the toy store had some hand loads in the car and sold me 20 just so I could go shoot it. While there I mentioned maybe putting a laser on it and 2 days later she called with the correct Crimson Trace unit for my gun.
My cheeks still hurt from the grin on my face. Sweet LITTLE package with enough punch to hurt. My box of Buffalo Bore hot loads will be here next Monday so I’ll be able to get serious.

  7. And Archie gets it in one! But at least he was obtuse enough so everyone else can take a crack at it too.

RFA - that’s the one I wanted at first. I’ve got one on order but it might take a year or more to come in. Make sure yours has the little diamond stamped under the hammer channel - there was a safety recall, and that’s the mark they put on the ones that got repaired. Post recall models have a blue steel barrel instead of a stainless one I think. Right now I ones that I see for sale are marked up 50% to 100%. I’m not touching them at that price.

  8. I’m not sure where all these reports of shortages of guns & ammo are coming from. I stopped today at a Cabelas in Dundee, Michigan and later at a gun dealer in Fenton, Michigan (looking for a used small-bore shotgun to deal with the occasional woodchuck or coyote problem on our farm). While I wasn’t looking for handguns, both stores seemed to have hundreds available, and there did not seem to be any shortage of ammo either.

Of course I can’t comment on the price issue, since I wasn’t looking for a handgun and did not look at prices, but there does not seem to be any particular shortage.

  9. Ok Spartan makes a good point. Let me be more specific: there is an extraordinary demand right now for civilain LBR/EBR (light battle rifles/extended battle rifles;
“civilian” because they don’t have full automatic fire. “Extended” because they have mounts on them that let you clip on lights, lasers, extra handgrips etc. What the MSM calls Assault Rifles) there is another extraordinary demand for small powerful handguns that are suited for concealed carry (CCW) and there is a 3rd extraordinary demand for “home defense” and “tactical” shotguns. The typical cop car shotguns.

Great big enormous pistols you can hunt bears with are not selling anywhere near as well. Bolt action “deer rifles” are sitting on the shelves. But if those same rifles have thick heavy barrels and a Dragonov or Choate design synthetic stock, then they are seen as “tactical” “sniper rifles” and they fly right out the door.

It is as if a large part of America was arming itself for battle. Go try and even find an M1A to buy. Or an AR15. Try and buy a pocket pistol. Try and buy a short black pump shotgun. There are almost none to be had.

  10. A buddy of mine has the nicest lil PPD ( personal protection device)he got from an old friend who passed a few years ago. Its a 357 twin barrel derringer. Fits so nice in your hand and has very little kick for such a small unit. Alas Im stuck with a generic charter arms snubnose 38.

  11. Drew, as you said, you did describe it more than enough to identify.

Aside from that, I’ve been a student of firearms, handguns especially, for the last forty six years or so.  I remember when it was simple to tell a Detective Special from a 2” M&P by the extractor rod.  For that matter, I remember 2” M&P being a ‘snubby’.

I remember the FIRST all stainless steel handgun on the market.  Does anyone else?

I’m still getting used to the idea of plastic guns.

But congratulations; those are nice guns by all accounts.  Good shooting.

  12. Rich K -

I’ve got one of those PPDs. American Derringer M-1 in .357 Magnum, SS, with rosewood grips. it’s almost too pretty to fire. The top barrel kick is significantly more than the bottom. Amazing what a little more lever-arm distance will do to a torquing force! Physics works!

Congrats on the purchase, Drew! *McGoo grits teeth in envy*

  13. Drew a case of synchronicity (again) the postman brought my S&W M&P40 yesterday. I got this on the Internet too! Hoping to get out to the range on Monday to put it through its paces.

  14. Congratulations on your pick. SB a good one.
I recently purchased one over the internet at auction, a Tromix AR-15 lower. They had quite a few ARs, and several lots of parts. What stunk was that several items didn’t get pictures posted until auction day. One was a Tromix lower with a KNS spade grip. It went for $375.
They also had many lots of ammo. The prices went bonkers on it though, 50 cents a round or higher.
A number of the lots got pulled at the last moment when it was determined they may contain parts for full auto stuff.
They will be reauctioning some of the stuff in about two weeks since some of it didn’t get claimed. I know the auctioneers personally and can vouch for their integrity.

  15. jeesh ..can’t even buy a sling shot here online. can we Lyndon? Can no longer buy air rifle online. Well ya can but it can no longer be delivered to home. Red tape and delivery to a store of your choice and pick up. Bah.

Congrats. Drew ... Look forward to photos.
