AS AMERICA DRAWS CLOSER TO THE EU

  1. As it happens I got into a bit of a disagreement with some Guardian readers on this. There was an article by George Monbiot (aka Moonbat) where he was whining about how terrible this treaty is. Their point was that Cameron was banging on about being run from the EU when we are going to sign up to a treaty that will make it much easier for (US) corporations to sue the British government for damages etc. if they don’t get their way. My attitude was that if Moonbat was serious he would advocate leaving the EU so that we can make our own deals and not have one foisted on us by the EU. They didn’t seem to appreciate that suggestion.

As I understand it the NHS is specifically excluded from the TTIP, but I do tend to agree with the people you quoted. I think this treaty wont really be of much benefit to Joe Schmoe, but it will be a godsend for big corporations. To give you an example of how it could pan out. The British government (Labour I should add) contracted the US firm Raytheon to produce an electronic border control system. This was years late, way over budget and didn’t work properly, so the current government canceled it. They were then sued by Raytheon for breach of contract and it ended up costing the taxpayer something like £220 million for a pos that doesn’t even work. The TTIP will if anything make it easier for these corporations to sue the governments. So personally I am against it, but then I want Britain out of Europe so we can make our own trade agreements.

  2. Considering the last 6 years, a simple rule of thumb is that if Obama likes it, it’s bad for the United States.

It really bothers me that I don’t fully understand the treaties, but Obama has had a very consistent track record and if he likes it, you know it’s got to be bad.

Whoever the next President is, I really think they should have a Soviet style purge of anyone appointed to any position by Obama.  For anyone merely promoted by Obama, they can be purged or watched carefully.  I’m almost passed caring about anyone’s rights in the matter.  Obama has appointed some of the most toxic bureaucrats I’ve ever seen and I want them out.
